Samsung a5 wireless charger. Wireless charging for Samsung smartphones: which models support, and what to do if not. Which phones support wireless charging

Do you want to know which Samsung devices support wireless charging and whether your smartphone has this capability? Let's take a closer look at which phones of the Korean company have support for this wireless feature.

This company was the first to offer customers charging their devices wirelessly through the air. For the first time, this technology from Koreans appeared at various exhibitions a couple of years ago and Samsung still does not change itself. However, not every device from the company can boast an over-the-air battery recharge function. In this article, you will learn about all the models of the company with the implemented technology of energy transmission through the air.

Samsung wireless charging support: how does it work?

After looking at the main competitors from Apple, Samsung engineers decided to implement their own Qi interface.

In total, the company's smartphones support two standards - Qi and PMA. The first is newer and has a faster filling rate. However, it is found only in flagship devices, which many users cannot afford.

What else is there, besides Samsung - you will learn from another article.

Samsung Wireless Charging: Supported Models

Let's highlight a list of phones that support wireless charging from Samsung:

  • qi support first appeared in the fifth generation of the Note phablet;
  • generation galaxy S6;
  • extended version of the Galaxy S6 Plus;
  • galaxy S6 Edge curved version;
  • latest generation galaxy S7;
  • galaxy S7 Edge version.

Now that you know which Samsung phones support wireless charging, you can choose the device that suits your needs and capabilities. However, all listed phones are flagships and their price tags differ slightly.

In the next section, you can read material on how well Qi works and more.

Good day, dear readers. Samsung's wireless charging is what sets this company's smartphones apart from the competition, and especially from the iPhone. This South Korean giant is engaged in the production of various equipment, but has achieved particular success by developing smartphones. Their devices are manufactured using the most advanced technology, generating multi-million dollar revenues every year. Not surprisingly, it was the Samsung Galaxy line of smartphones that was one of the first to suggest that the user abandon the usual wired chargers. And, I must say, so far only a few companies have been able to compete in this regard with a company from South Korea.

Samsung - be the first everywhere

It seems that it is difficult to connect an ordinary charger wire, especially since today many smartphones are endowed with a USB Type-C port, which is symmetrical - you can connect the cable to the device either side. And yet manufacturers are not standing still, coming up with something new to simplify the user's life. One of the latest features of branded devices is wireless charging. Of course, it was not bypassed by specialists from Samsung, who carried out serious work on the technology. Of course, there were others before them, for example Nokia, which equipped the famous Lumia line with wireless charging support.

However, Nokia left the ranks of the most advanced companies, and competitors adopted the most interesting features of its products. Samsung, in addition to other interesting features, began to actively introduce wireless charging. She did this with a special approach, not just declaring a new "chip", but providing the user with everything that is needed for comfortable use. So, Samsung Galaxy s6 and s7, which received wireless charging, came with a very stylish and high-quality charging stand. At the time, Apple - the main competitor - introduced thick cases that were equipped with an additional battery.

Which Samsung Models Support Wireless Charging

The South Korean company had the idea to introduce wireless charging even before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S 3, which joined the ranks of flagships in 2012. However, then the idea was just beginning, and a prototype of a mobile phone with contactless charging was presented by Palm OS. The Samsung Galaxy S 3 already had contacts for connecting a device according to the Qi standard (they were under the back cover). The next two models S4 and S5 were equipped with contacts, but wireless charging was not integrated. Special accessories came to the rescue, which made the technology quite workable.

But the Samsung Galaxy S 6 with all its modifications, which brought a lot to the smartphone market, has already received a full-fledged wireless charging from the manufacturer. This model received an all-metal case, inside which a coil is hidden, which serves as an energy receiver. The scope of delivery is accompanied by a docking station in the form of a platform that transfers energy. That is, the user only needs to put his Samsung Galaxy S 6 or S6 Edge on it to start charging. An interesting feature is that the smartphone supports wireless charging according to two standards at once: Qi and PMA. This allows the use of docking stations for various purposes.

More recent solutions Samsung Galaxy S 7 and S 7 Edge have not abandoned the innovative feature, which is not surprising. Wireless charging in these models is also integrated, and the package includes a pad. By the time the new product was released, many Chinese online stores were already inundated with original docking station solutions that are ideal for Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Charging standards remain the same - Qi and PMA.

The shelves are about to be replenished with the new Samsung Galaxy - S 8. Several modifications with various innovations are expected. Wireless charging in the Samsung Galaxy S8 is certainly not new, but rumor has it that it will be seriously improved. According to a number of sources, the future flagship will receive an integrated receiver of three coils, which will significantly expand the reception range, increasing efficiency. It remains to wait quite a bit.

Principle of operation

Without going too deep, the principle of wireless charging for Samsung Galaxy and other smartphones is the same. It uses two copper coils (transmitter - docking station; receiver - coil in a smartphone), which create a magnetic field. Receiving waves, the receiver converts them into energy, charging the smartphone's battery. Typically, the Qi standard (developed by the Wireless Power Consortium) is used, which supports the transfer of induction energy up to 4 centimeters.

The idea of \u200b\u200btransmitting energy "through the air" appeared about 200 years ago, when Marie Ampere proved that electric current produces a magnetic field. Nikola Tesla also put a lot of effort into lighting an incandescent lamp without wires. Of course, this technology has become interesting for electronics manufacturers in our time. Several corporations have developed their own standards for the transmission of small and medium currents. And more recently, in 2015, a group of scientists found out that energy can be transmitted via Wi-Fi. Apparently, the times are not far off when we will be able to completely forget about regular recharging of devices.

Samsung Wireless Charger Galaxy - different models, different options

So, having talked a little about energy transmission standards, let's return to the "guests" of our article. Considering that we are talking about wireless chargers, the entire Samsung Galaxy line can be divided into two groups according to this principle:

Models with built-in wireless charging. This group includes:

  • Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Duos
  • S6 EDGE
  • S6 EDGE Plus
  • S7 / S7 Edge
  • Galaxy Note 5
  • Galaxy Note 7
  • Watch - Samsung Gear S2 / Classic

Models for which a special receiver is produced (special contacts are provided under the back cover):

  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S5
  • Note 2
  • Note 3
  • Note 4
  • Note edge

Some other models that do not support any of the options presented support universal receivers. They can be purchased from online stores at low cost.

Built-in wireless charger Samsung Galaxy S 6, S 7

Most of all, the owners of the latest Samsung Galaxy models, in which the manufacturer already provides wireless charging, are lucky. As a rule, a proprietary docking station is included in the package, which is suitable for charging other smartphones that have received this technology. By the way, Samsung's stand is in great demand due to its versatility and high-quality assembly. If suddenly it breaks down, then you can buy a new one in almost any electronics store, as well as at a lower price in Chinese online stores.

Considering that the Samsung Galaxy S 6, S 7 and their modifications use wireless charging that supports several standards, you can buy another docking station in a more stylish design. Today, there are hundreds of offers on the market that will definitely work with smartphones of the South Korean brand.

To recharge, just put your smartphone on the transmitter pad. Do not forget to connect it to the mains using the adapter. The original docking station has a backlight that will notify the user about the charging progress: blue - the smartphone is charging; green - fully charged. The manufacturer equipped the platform with an automatic shutdown function after the battery is fully charged. It plays a rather significant role, protecting the smartphone battery from destructive overcharge. Full charging time depends on the specific model (different battery capacities) - on average, it takes 3 hours to charge a 3000 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy S 3, S 4, S 5 wireless charger - you need to buy something

As mentioned above, a number of Samsung Galaxy models (S 3, S 4, S 5, etc.) received special contacts that are "hidden" under the back cover. For each of the models, special receivers are presented (corresponding to the contacts), which are sold in online stores. They are inexpensive (about 700 rubles for a set with a docking station), they are connected very simply, hiding under the cover. These receivers are made according to the Qi standard, which allows you to use almost any platform for wireless charging Samsung (of course, also Qi).

The most profitable of all such a receiver can be bought in Chinese online stores. The main thing is to look at which Samsung model it is intended for. It is better to look under the cover of the smartphone on your own to understand how the contacts are located. Unfortunately, wireless charging still doesn't work well through cases, especially those made of metal, so either use thin ones or skip altogether.

Universal wireless chargers

If someone stays true to their Samsung S 2, but wants to try out wireless charging, they will have to buy a universal receiver. The fact is that at the time when this smartphone model came out, priority was clearly not given to wireless charging. Samsung S2 doesn't have special contacts like its descendants, but friends from China have found a way out. The universal receiver (is a thin plate and connector) is connected to the charging port, and the main part is folded over to the back cover. Covers are used for fixing. Soldering iron virtuosos manage to connect the receiver directly, hiding it under the back cover. Docking stations come with the receiver, as a rule. However, any model that supports the Qi standard can be used.

More expensive or cheaper

Of course, we all love to save. However, when buying a wireless charger for Samsung smartphones, it is better not to do this. This is especially true for the latest models. Although the manufacturer has already provided an original docking station for them, and you don't have to worry about the receiver at all, many users want something new. Of course, no one is insured against damage to the site, which entails additional costs. Give preference to branded wireless chargers from Samsung, well, or proven models: DT-900 from Nokia, Belsis TECs TS1001, interesting solutions from Woodpuck. By overpaying a little, you will reduce the risk of undesirable consequences: overheating of the site, power surges, overcharging, etc.

What should owners of older Samsung Galaxy models do that didn't receive wireless charging from the factory? Yes, almost the same thing - buy an original docking station. The receiver, of course, will have to be found from third-party manufacturers. If you decide to save money by ordering a cheap replica, then study user reviews, which will help establish the quality level.

Outcome

Wireless charging in Samsung smartphones is no longer just another feature that will interest only some users. Thanks to the responsible approach of manufacturers, the technology is becoming more popular day by day. Wireless points for recharging smartphones Samsung and other companies appear in airports, cafes, cinemas. Yes, wireless charging is far from a perfectly polished technology that has no downsides. They are, but every year the manufacturer solves them little by little, bringing users closer to abandoning a heap of wires in the house.

Mid-range smartphones, or “uberflags,” as Russian tech journalists called them, are perhaps the best thing that happened to the mobile industry in 2016. Rapid progress has led to the fact that mid-range smartphones are now so good that they quite successfully satisfy the needs of even very demanding users.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)

CPU:Exynos 7880 Octa
RAM: 3 GB
Memory: 32 GB
Display:5.2 inches, Super Amoled, 1080 x 1920
Camera:16 MP, f / 1.9 (main), 16 MP, f / 1.9 (front)
Battery:3000 mAh
Size and weight:146.1 x 71.4 x 7.9mm, 157g

Roughly speaking, modern flagships surpass mid-range devices only in the camera level, as well as various innovations such as a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate sensor, screen pressure detection, an improved sound path, fast wireless charging and others. Such technologies first appear in flagship devices and only next year become available in middle class devices.

In this regard, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) is made, as they say, according to classic patterns and is similar to the flagship of 2016 Samsung Galaxy S7.

The body is made of impact-resistant Gorilla Glass with an oleophobic coating. The smartphone has a curved back panel and a slightly rounded glass at the edges (2.5D).

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

The Galaxy A5 features a Super Amoled display, IP68 water and dust resistance (up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 m).

The device also supports such fashionable "chips" as Always-on display, Samsung Pay payment service, fast charging technology and others.

Design and screen

Externally, the Galaxy A5 (2017) really looks like the Galaxy S7 and looks, as marketers would say, no less premium than last year's flagship Samsung.

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

The display is made using Super Amoled technology, diagonal - 5.2 inches, resolution - Full HD (1080 x 1920). It's a bright, high-contrast screen with wide viewing angles and deep blacks.

At the same time, the Galaxy S7 display had a higher resolution - QHD (1440 x 2560). Oddly enough, this reduction turned out to be quite a good solution. If you do not insert the Galaxy A5 into a VR headset, where QHD is just a necessary minimum, then for a diagonal of 5.2 Full HD resolution is quite enough.

Battery and processor

Importantly, a lower resolution screen is not only cheaper but also uses less power. In terms of battery life, the Galaxy A5 (2017) is clearly superior to the Galaxy S7. While Samsung is not positioning the device as a dedicated long-playing device, moderate power consumption is one of its strengths.

And for at least a year, you will be able to play the most graphics-demanding games.
An added bonus is support for fast charging.

Camera

Taking a photo is a place where analogies with the Galaxy S7 are irrelevant. Last year's flagship Samsung has one of the best mobile cameras to date, and it's a shame it didn't make it to the A5.

The smartphone has a completely different photomodule: a 16 megapixel camera with an f / 1.9 aperture. For comparison, the Galaxy S7 has a 12MP camera with an f / 1.8 aperture.

Don't think that more pixels on the sensor will provide better image quality. A lot of other parameters are also important, such as aperture ratio, pixel size, autofocus operation, stabilization, processing algorithms.

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

Especially the Galaxy A5's camera loses out in low light conditions. If in photographs taken during the day and even at dusk, the difference in quality is not very noticeable, then when shooting at night it is still fatal.

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

Perhaps the point is in the algorithms for processing night images and in the absence of optical stabilization (OIS). If the developers can still fix the software in future firmware updates, then the absence of OIS will have to be reconciled.

Note that

galaxy A5 (2016) had optical stabilization, and why it was abandoned is a mystery.

But the front camera with 16 megapixels is designed to please selfie lovers. There are no complaints about it, in contrast to the main one.

Dmitry Bevza / "Gazeta.Ru"

"Fishechki"

What is so interesting about the Galaxy A5 that makes it stand out from the competition?

Moisture and dust resistance make the Galaxy A5 (2017) stand out from other competitors. Only Sony Xperia smartphones can boast of similar resistance. Of course, we are talking about ordinary smartphones, and not about special devices for extreme sports and military.

The fingerprint scanner can be configured to recognize three fingerprints. The technology works quite correctly, but still slower than in the Galaxy S7. It is worth paying attention to the fact that the scanner is combined with the "Home" button.

For Android smartphones, such an “iPhone” location of the scanner is a rather rare option.

Samsung Pay is, in a sense, a unique, albeit not the most requested option, which is only found in the new Galaxy S and Galaxy A.

Especially for the paranoid, there is a safe KNOX environment. That is, private information can be stored in a special encrypted folder.

Always On Display has finally appeared not only on Samsung flagships. The essence of the function is that the time, calendar and notifications are shown even when the screen is off. At the same time, the battery is consumed a little faster, but the Galaxy A5 (2017) still lives its two days with the Always On Display option activated.

And the last important detail is that the device does not have a hybrid slot for SIM cards and memory cards, but there are two separate full holes.

That is, you can insert two SIM cards and a memory card at the same time. Considering that the A5 has only 32GB of main memory, this is more than a justified decision.

Outcome

The obvious advantages of the Galaxy A5 (2017) are the spectacular design of the flagship S-series, high-quality screen, long battery life, 16 megapixel front camera, moisture and dust protection according to the IP68 standard.

Less noticeable - support for Samsung Pay, a well-developed proprietary graphical interface, simultaneous support for two SIM cards and a memory card, branded accessories, high-quality assembly, warranty, technical support and other things that stand behind big brands.

Cons - operation of the main camera in low light conditions, lack of optical image stabilization in the camera, lack of wireless charging and still a rather high price of the device (28 thousand rubles), which is declared as a budget flagship.

  • 1. What is Qi Wireless Charging

    The world is becoming mobile and "wireless".

    In today's world, all file transfer manipulations using a smartphone is "over the air". Access to the Internet via wi-fi - at home, at work, in a cafe is taken for granted, and rarely anyone has difficulty using it. The time has come forwireless power transmission.

    In 2008, the " Wireless Electromagnetic Energy Consortium"(Wireless Power Consortium, WPC), which brought together manufacturers from Europe, Asia and America. The Consortium's goal is to develop a unified standard for wireless charging technology.

    Already in 2009 the company Palm provided the first phone to support wireless charging. Later, in September 2012, Nokiaintroduced 2 smartphones to the market - Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 also with support for the qi standard. Further, large manufacturers of smartphones pulled themselves up - Samsung, Google Nexus (Asus, Lg), Sony, etc.

    Since 2014, our company Zaryadqi has been developing and distributing wireless chargers in Russia. Our store has the largest selection of wireless chargers and we are constantly monitoring new products and expanding our range. You will definitely find the right charger for you in our store.

  • 2. How it works

    In simple language:

    • The charger is connected to a power source.
    • A magnetic field is created.
    • The smartphone must support wireless charging - have a built-in receiver or an additional receiver installed.
    • The phone is placed on the charger.
    • Smartphone charging starts automatically.

    From a technical point of view:

    Energy is transferred from the transmitter to the receiver-receiver through an interconnected magnetic field that occurs when an alternating current flows through the transmitter coil.
    If the receiver coil is in close proximity, a significant portion of the transmitter's power lines will pass through the receiver coil, creating an alternating current in the receiver, which is then converted to direct voltage.

  • 3. Benefits

    Just. Put your smartphone on Qi wireless charging and it will start charging automatically.

    Contemporary. All major IT companies are already developing their Qi devices.

    Universal. Any device with a Qi receiver / receiver is charged by any Qi wireless charger.

    Safely... The generated electric field is safe for humans and extends only 1 cm from the device.

    Comfortable and convenient. There is no need for a bunch of wires, which later get tangled or simply lost.

  • 4. Phone models that have a built-in receiver-receiver and support out-of-the-box wireless charging

    More and more smartphone manufacturers are starting to build receiver-receivers into their top-end models: Apple iPhone XS, XS MAX, XR, X, etc., Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9 + / Note 9, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and etc.

  • 5. For some phone models, special receivers are produced to support wireless charging.
  • 6. How to use wireless charging

  • 7. Types of wireless chargers

    We conditionally divide wireless chargers into several types by functionality:

    • ... Standard charging stations in the form of a small "platform" on which the phone is placed, or a charger built into equipment - a lamp, clock, weather station, etc.
    • ... Wireless charger for use in the car: with special holders and faucets for the phone and adapters for the cigarette lighter.
    • ... Wireless chargers with stand function, i.e. The phone is at an angle during charging for easy viewing of videos, mail, social networks.
    • ... Wireless chargers with a built-in battery differ among themselves, in addition to design, the number of additional USB ports and battery capacity - from 4000 mAh to 10000 mAh.
    • ... Wireless chargers for embedding in tables, cabinets, bar counters. They have a special design and protection from moisture and dust.

    And also by scope or place of use:

    • At home / in the office
    • In the car
    • On the road
  • 8. Receivers-receivers are
    • Built-in- already installed in the smartphone by the manufacturer.

    If the manufacturer of your phone has not provided for the possibility of wireless charging, it can be easily adapted to this charging! For this, a special film receiver is used - there are several types of them:

    • In the form that is installed under the cover of a smartphone. To do this, the phone must have special contacts
    • which connects to the lighting power port on Apple and micro-usb on Android smartphones.

    Picture

    Description

    The film is attached under the phone cover, the functionality of the phone is not reduced. The standard cable can be used simultaneously with the installed film receiver.

    Such receiverQi for phones with special contacts Suitable for phones that have dedicated wireless charging contacts: Samsung Note 4, Samsung Note 3, Samsung Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3 and others.

    The film is attached to the back of the phone. At the same time, it can be closed with any standard cover: leather, plastic, silicone - this will not affect the charging process. The connector, inseparably connected with the film, must be in the Lightning connector for charging according to the Qi standard. The presence of a film-receiver does not cause any inconvenience.

    Such Apple-receiverQi Suitable for Apple devices with Lightning connector: Apple iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, 6, 6s, 6Plus, 6SPlus, SE, 7, 7 Plus; iPad Air 2, iPad mini and others (Apple currently does not provide wireless charging without accessories)

    Such universal receiverQi Suitable for any phone equipped with a USB connector for classic wired charging. The film is attached under the cover or case of the smartphone. The plug, inseparably connected with the film, for charging according to the Qi standard must be located in the Micro-usb connector. The presence of a film-receiver does not cause any inconvenience.

    In phones with a Micro-USB port, the connector can be one of three types depending on its type, if you put the phone on top of the screen.

    Connector type "C" appeared relatively recently - it can be found on a few devices. So, type "C" is equipped with MacBook 12 ", Samsung TabPro S, Google Nexus 6P, Microsoft Lumia 950 XL, ZUK Z1, Google Pixel C, Google Nexus 5X, One Plus 2, Acer Aspire Switch 10 V and other devices.

    In addition to the above receivers, depending on the location of the connector in the phone, such film receivers may be suitable - they are called lateral or offset:

    Accordingly, each type and position of the connector needs its own Universal receiverQi. Having identified the correct type of Micro-USB connector in your phone, you will buy the correct receiver for wireless charging and allow yourself to abandon wires!

    • There are also: the receiver is already built into the case, so just put the case on the phone and it will be able to charge wirelessly.

    You can always tell the manager of the online store your phone model - we will select the optimal receiver-receiver for you!

  • 9. The difference between wired and wireless charging

    Wireless charging produces a current of 1 ampere and a voltage of 5 volts. The standard power adapter that comes with the smartphone delivers 1 to 2A. And when charging the phone from a computer (USB port), the phone is charged with a current from 0.5A (USB 2.0) to 0.9A (USB 3.0).

    In this regard, you will not even feel the difference in charging time or it will not be significant.

  • 9. Energy efficiency

    The energy efficiency of Qi wireless chargers is approximately 80%. It should be understood that it is simply impossible to achieve an energy efficiency of 100%; for standard wired chargers, this figure ranges from 75% to 95% at best.

  • 10. Security

    Wireless chargers use non-ionizing frequencies that have no harmful physiological effects on humans. Qi 1.2 standard includes the detection of foreign objects in the field of action of the charger, providing additional safety of use; charging is only possible with Qi-compatible devices. Also, our chargers and smartphones have built-in safety mechanisms based on thermal control.

Still have questions?

Team A is back in action. At least when it comes to the company Samsung and a new reincarnation Galaxy A5sample 2016 of the year . The smartphone wants to be similar to the S6, but it is much cheaper and at the same time has some premium features.

Models Galaxy A for 2016 is the answer Samsung on the trend of Chinese manufacturers to release premium smartphones at mid-budget prices. This makes the smartphone a competitor OnePlus Xand Xiaomi Mi 4c, a also an alternative Galaxy S6.

What is the new Galaxy A5 2016?Let's take a closer look.

Key features:

- available with a hybrid slot that allows you to use either two SIM cards or a SIM card and memory card;

- metal frame sandwiched between 2.5D and Gorilla Glass 4;

- 5.2-inch display with Super AMOLED display type with a resolution of 1080 × 1920 pixels and a density of 401 units;

- 8-core Snapdragon 615 processor (also available with Exynos 7580); 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 graphics chip;

- Android 5.1 OS with TouchWiz proprietary firmware;

- 13MP main camera with automatic image stabilization and 1080p video recording;

- 5MP front camera with 1080p video recording;

- 16 GB of internal memory + 8 GB can be added via a memory card;

- fingerprint sensor and instant payment system Samsung Pay;

- 2900 mAh battery.

Main disadvantages:

- there is no possibility to record video in 4K or 1080p at 60 frames per second;

- limited memory space. There is no 32GB version. More frustrating, however, is that you can only add 8GB on a removable card;

- no MHL (but USB OTG is supported);

The whole summary boils down to comparing this smartphone with the Galaxy S6, since the company is positioning this gadget as its replacement. And then it turns out that the smartphone falls short of the order, although it received some bonuses in the form of MicroSD and FM radio, which the flagship does not have. But the camera received a lower resolution - 13 megapixels versus 16 megapixels. And 1080p video versus 2160p. The gadget also received a more capacious battery - 2900 mAh versus 2550 mAh, but did not receive the possibility of wireless charging. He also received less screen resolution - 1080p, not QHD. But I got a slower chipset with less memory: 2 GB versus 3 GB. There is no heart rate sensor and oxygen sensor in the blood.

As a technical conclusion, it is difficult to understand why Galaxy A5 2016 should replace Galaxy S6. This is a completely different phone, of a lower level. It only has a better battery capacity. The camera is frankly weak, weak processor, little memory and RAM. Compared to the first generation flagship, of course.

This is despite the fact that the original 2014 Galaxy A5 was an ambitious project that offered an outstanding set of circuits at an affordable price. And the new smartphone only offers Samsung Pay. Internally, but outwardly, he has not changed at all.

Packaging

The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) offers a retail package of 15W fast charger and MicroUSB 2.0 cable, as well as a headset with three remote control buttons. That is, nothing in the configuration has changed.

We take the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) in our hands and measure it with a ruler - 144.8 x 71 x 7.3 mm. It weighs 155 g. This makes it bigger and heavier than the Galaxy S6. And the matter is not even in size, but in weight - 138 g weighs S6).

Equipment overview

What's your favorite snack on a premium phone? A sandwich made of glass and metal as a body, of course! This is the most popular combo after the full metal shell. So, Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) still received a new class of protective glass Gorilla Glass 4. This is exactly the same for the flagship S6.

The metal sides are chamfered with small bumps at each of the four corners to improve traction and provide a more secure hold on slippery surfaces.

The bezels around the screen are average, but Samsung's designers have created the illusion of a very thin bezel. To do this, they used black glass and slanted metal sides to hide the extra thickness.

In the hand, the A5 (2016) feels like an impressive device. We're used to mid-range phones of this size being lighter in weight. This is neither good nor bad, just an opinion.

What's really good is the new screen resolution. The smartphone has received an improvement from 720p to 1080p. Let's add here the appearance of a fingerprint sensor on the Home button. Even if this is the first wave sensor, the cheapest and not the most convenient, but now it is. It remains only to regret that it is not behind.

What's bad - the touch control keys have lost the ability to long-term backlighting. Apparently, in order to save battery power, which has already grown in volume. But we have improved the capabilities of the selfie camera to help the user with night photos.

The beveled Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back creates a beautiful curve that continues into the metal frame. The technology is now much more pronounced than on the Galaxy S6, and the phone feels better in the hand after being treated this way.

On the sides are standard power and volume buttons, as well as slots for a nano SIM card and microSD. The metal frame is not very thick, which leaves quite a bit of space for the buttons. They are narrow.

A slightly rough surface appeared on the back. The rear is available in black, white, gold or pink, while the front is almost always black (aside from the white version). The metal on the sides matches the back.

The 13MP camera may not have an S6 sensor, but it does have its own wide f / 1.9 aperture and automatic image stabilization. And it doesn't stick out. One solid color LED flash comes with it. There are no heart rate or blood oxygen sensors next to it like the S6.

At the bottom of the phone is a MicroUSB 2.0 port and a loudspeaker (hidden behind a grill in the drilled holes). There is also a microphone at the top and at the bottom - this pair is used for noise canceling and stereo sound recording.

Final Words

The result is a strange conclusion. Designer Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) turned out even better than the flagship S6, but inside the technical novelty is inferior to competitors, who have long been able to shoot video in ultra-high resolution and have QHD screens. So, technically, Samsung doesn't surprise the mid-range consumer too much. But if you need a beautiful phone, this gadget can be a great choice.
