Where is the thermostat in the refrigerator eyelid. Refrigerator repair and device: principles of operation of different types, typical malfunctions, components. Replacing and checking the thermostat of the refrigerating chamber

The thermostat (or thermostat, thermostat) is a key element of the refrigerator, through which the temperature inside the unit is controlled. At certain moments, the thermostat sends signals to the motor-compressor to turn on / off the cooling mode in the refrigerator chambers and, thereby, maintains the temperature inside the unit.

In electromechanical models of refrigerators, the thermostat is a temperature control mechanism with a temperature sensor. The temperature sensor (temperature sensor) is a thermocouple in the form of a wire, the end of which is fed either to the evaporator or directly to the refrigerator chamber. There he measures the temperature.

In models of refrigerators with electronic control, the role of the thermostat is played by the control module and the temperature sensor, which is a conventional thermistor. As with the electromechanical models, the temperature sensor can be located in the evaporator or inside the refrigerator and / or freezer.

A modern two-compartment refrigerator can have from 1 to 5 temperature sensors (in multi-compartment there can be even more), which, depending on the refrigerator device, can be located:

  • near the evaporator of the refrigerating and / or freezing chambers;
  • inside the refrigerator or freezer;
  • in separate zones inside the refrigerating chamber, there may be additional temperature sensors that monitor the temperature in this zone, for example, in the "freshness zone"

According to the statistics of the RemBytTech workshop, a faulty thermostat (or temperature sensor in electronic models of refrigerators) is one of the main breakdowns of refrigerators (20-25% of cases). It should be immediately understood that it cannot be repaired, in any case it will be necessary to install a new one.

What determines the cost of replacing a thermal sensor?

  • From the cost of the part. It can vary greatly depending on the brand of the refrigerator.
  • From the type of refrigerator. Thermal sensors for models of refrigerators with electronic control are more expensive than for electromechanical ones. And it's more difficult to change them.
  • From the location of the sensor. So, it is extremely laborious to change the temperature sensor of the evaporator in its foamed part: you have to cut the thermal insulation, and after replacing it, you have to restore it again.

The order of work to replace the thermostat

  • Dismantling the refrigerator... In electromechanical models, the master disassembles the refrigerator body to get to the thermostat (which is usually located under the top cover of the unit). In electronic models, disassembly is carried out both outside (to get to the control module, which is also located under the top cover of the unit), and inside the refrigerator chamber, where the temperature sensor is hidden.
  • Dismantling a faulty thermostat. For this, in electromechanical models, the contact connectors are previously disconnected from the thermostat. Next, the master removes the lighting unit and pulls out the thermocouple of the thermostat. In electronic models, the temperature sensor is first cut off from the control unit, and then a wire with a temperature sensor is pulled from the inside of the refrigerator through the back wall.
  • Installing a new thermal sensor. In electromechanical models of units, the master connects the connectors to the new thermostat. Then a thermocouple is lowered into the evaporator channel through a special hole, and the hole itself is sealed with a sealant. In electronic: first, a wire, at the end of which there is a temperature sensor, is passed through the back of the refrigerator. After that, the wire is connected to the control module by soldering or twisting the wire. Places of soldering or twisting are covered with heat shrinkage to prevent moisture ingress.
  • Assembling the refrigerator body. It is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. Before assembly, the wizard checks the resistance of the temperature sensor for compliance with the factory values. If, when replacing the thermostat in electromechanical models, the thermocouple is too long, the master puts it in the cavity under the top cover of the refrigerator.
  • Performance check. At the final stage, the master turns on the refrigerator to the network and monitors for some time the correctness of its operation.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning thermostat in the refrigerator

There are a number of signs that may indicate that the thermal sensor is out of order. But the exact cause can be established only after diagnosis.

  • One or both chambers of the refrigerator do not work... If there are several thermal sensors in the refrigerator, the chamber whose thermal relay is out of order will not work. If the refrigerator with one thermostat or the evaporator sensor is out of order, both chambers of the refrigerator will not work. The light inside the refrigerating chamber will be on when any temperature sensor exits. On some models of refrigerators, the Alarm indicator may light up, indicating an increase in temperature in one or both chambers. Electronic units can also give an error code on the display.
  • The refrigerator compressor rarely turns off or runs without interruption at all. In this case, a thick layer of ice may form on the rear wall of the refrigerator compartment (if the unit is equipped with a drip defrost system) or in the freezer compartment. The temperature regime is violated: both chambers are freezing (with one thermostat) or only one (whose air temperature sensor is out of order).
  • The refrigerator compressor rarely turns on... In this case, the temperature in both chambers is higher than the required values \u200b\u200b(regardless of the set temperature). The malfunction can be accompanied by an alarm sound or light signal, if the refrigerator is equipped with these functions. They signal an increase in temperature inside the unit.

Replacing the thermostat in your refrigerator is no easy task. Without special knowledge in electronics and without knowing the location of the sensor, it will not work with it on its own. Therefore, call the "RemBytTech" service:

or send to the manager.

Within 24 hours after your request, the master will come to your home, diagnose and replace the thermostat.

Has your old refrigerator stopped freezing as well as before? He doesn't want to turn off for hours, but is it +10 degrees in the cell anyway? Or maybe the refrigerator doesn't want to turn on at all? It's time to check the thermostat! It is the problems with him that most often make themselves felt in this way. How can you check? First, you need to get to it somehow. Let's consider an example of a refrigerator model with an upper location of the regulator.

Where is the thermostat for the refrigerator located and how to get to it?

Unplug the refrigerator immediately. Find where the thermostat is located in your refrigerator and see how the protective panel is attached (Fig. 1: on the right - the thermostat, on the left - the latches of the protective panel). Pull out the cover by pulling the tabs out of the grooves. Then unscrew the screws holding the handle and the cover that directly covers the "insides" of the thermostat (Fig. 2). Then remove the transparent panel that protects the light bulb inside the refrigerator compartment (fig. 3). Otherwise, this panel will interfere with getting to the desired part.

When removing the pen, be sure to remember or photograph its location. Please note that during installation, the edge of the handle should go over the edge of the protective panel (Fig. 4-a), and there should be a special plastic cap on the tip of the thermostat (Fig. 4-b). So you got to the thermostat (Fig. 5).

How to check the refrigerator thermostat: method one

If the refrigerator does not turn on, you need to remove the two supply wires, close them directly. If the compressor started, then the thermostat for the refrigerator was the very "weak link" that did not allow electricity to pass through. It is not repairable and must be completely replaced.
To install a new part, the old one must be carefully dismantled. Unscrew the screws that you see, remove the thermostat and the wires that extend from it. They are pressed with a special plate (Fig. 6). When disassembling, pay attention to the position of the plate and the tightness of the central nut. When installing a new part, the position of the plate and nut must be the same.

Second check method

A removed thermostat can be checked by a simple mechanical method. Check the function by clicking the small tab near the center nut (fig. 7). If the plate does not move or does not click, the thermostat for the refrigerator is definitely not working properly.

Test method # 3

And finally, the third way that professionals trust the most. It is necessary to check the thermostat for resistance. Set the tester to the resistance measurement mode at the minimum value (Fig. 8). Calibrate the tester by turning it on and connecting both probes (Fig. 9) and setting the arrow to zero (Fig. 10). If the tester immediately "reads off scale", then you are finally convinced that the regulator needs to be replaced. A defective part will show the value "0".

You should only look for a new thermostat in specialized stores that sell original spare parts for refrigerators (for example, ALM-zapchasti). There you will definitely buy original parts and receive a manufacturer's warranty on them. Good luck with you!

In this article, consider an example " How to replace the Indesit refrigerator thermostat"Do it yourself. First you need to understand what a "Thermoregulator" is - it is
one of the main parts that is responsible for turning on and off the compressor at a given temperature. Quite a common reason when the refrigerator does not work. The location of the thermostat is different: inside the refrigerator chamber or under the lid outside. In more modern refrigerators, the thermostat is removed from the inside of the refrigerator to the outside.

Consider an example of how to replace the thermostat of the Indesit refrigerator yourself with the lower location of the freezer.

Determine where the thermostat is located near the refrigerator

First, look at where the temperature knob for your refrigerator is. Yeah, found it. In our example, it is located above the refrigerator door. Remove the thermostat knob:

Unscrew the two screws under the plastic cover. Use a screwdriver to pry off the plastic cover in the center from the top side and pull it towards you. It may not work the first time, but try again, everything should work out:

Then we unscrew the screws behind the refrigerator cover:

And lifts the iron lid to get to the thermostat:

We got to the thermostat. Notice that the end of the thermostat tube goes into the refrigerator body and is sealed with a small Velcro.

We take out the tube from the body. We unscrew the thermostat from the plastic holder. We remember where and which wires are connected, i.e. we look at the contact numbers on the thermostat, there are three of them: 3, 6 and 4.

Collect in the reverse order.

Be careful that you do it at your own risk. If you are in doubt and do not know how to properly change the refrigerator thermostat, entrust it to the master. This article is not a complete guide to repair action!

A large number of malfunctions in the Atlant, Biryusa, Nord refrigerators are often directly related to the breakdown of automation and require that the thermostat be replaced. The thermostat is a small device that maintains the required temperature by transmitting a signal to the compressor.

Principle of operation

The system itself, which cools the inner chamber, consists of a bottle filled with freon and a capillary tube. This system is interconnected with the evaporator. The thermostat is a temperature-sensitive relay and works like a switch that is activated by changing the size of the bellows tube. The moment of the thermostat actuation is set by the thermostat.

At the moment, there are quite a few varieties of temperature regulators, depending on the manufacturer of the refrigerator (Atlant, Biryusa, Nord and others).

Owners often have a question: how to replace the thermostat when repairing a refrigerator.

In the old modifications of the Indesit, Atlant and Stinol refrigerators, the temperature regulator is located on the side of the inner wall of the refrigerating chamber. Refrigerators "Nord", "Ariston", "Biryusa" and other two-chamber thermostat is located on the outside above the upper door.

If the refrigerator is equipped with a mechanical control knob, the thermostat is directly connected to it.

To replace a faulty thermostat, you must adhere to some requirements.

We open the door on the upper chamber of the refrigeration unit. Further:

  1. We unscrew the bolts located under the top cover. Using a flat screwdriver, we squeeze the latches that secure the top of the cover.
  2. Lift the cover up and take it out. Behind it you can see a thermostat with a nut. It must be loosened by unscrewing two bolts on both sides of the panel.
  3. We unscrew the nut on the temperature controller. We move the cover away from the refrigeration unit. Inside you can find a hook that secures the wire. It must be wrung out.
  4. We take out the thermostat along with the wires. We disconnect the wires from the element. We take out the tube of the freon flask that goes into the refrigerator body. We take a new thermostat and connect wires to it.
  5. Installation is carried out upside-down.

In the case when the temperature controller is located on the inside of the refrigerator compartment, replacement is even easier. One has only to unscrew the protection case, disconnect the thermostat wiring and replace the defective part.

Outcome

As you can see, replacing the refrigerator thermostat with your own hands is a fairly simple task. The main thing is the correct choice of a new part and adherence to the sequence of operations. To make it easy to assemble the refrigerator later, you can film all the work on a video camera. This will help you avoid mistakes during assembly and your refrigerator will work again.

STINOL refrigerators are widely used in Russia. The experience of operating such refrigerators shows that after 5-7 years the temperature regulator (or thermostat) in them fails. The most common reason for this is a violation of the tightness of the bellows - a temperature-sensitive element in the regulator. The reason is that the service life of these devices, manufactured by the German company RANCO, is about 5 years. Let's consider the malfunctions of the “K” series thermostats in the “Stinol-101/103” refrigerators, as well as the procedure for their replacement.

Note.
  • The difference between STINOL models 101 and 103 is that the second one has two compressors (separately for the refrigerator and freezer). Compressor switching circuits in these refrigerators are practically identical, with the exception of the types of elements of the automation system (see, respectively, Fig. 1 and 2).

Figure: 2

  • The article does not include defects in refrigerators caused by malfunctioning compressors, thermal and starting relays, as well as other elements.

Possible defects of refrigerators, in which a check is required, and, if necessary, replacement of temperature controllers

  1. The refrigerator compressor does not turn on at any position of the temperature control knob. When the handle is moved to the OFF position, there is no characteristic click.
  2. The refrigerator compressor runs continuously even when the temperature control knob is OFF. The temperature in the freezing and refrigerating chambers (MK and HC) is significantly below normal.
  3. The temperature in the MC and HC is higher than normal even at the maximum position (extreme clockwise) of the temperature control knob.

Replacing and checking the thermostat of the refrigerating chamber

Using the example of the Stinol-103 refrigerator, we will consider the procedure for replacing the XK type K-59 thermostat (the type marking and pin numbers are printed on its body). The replacement steps are shown in Fig. 3-9.

Using an awl or a thin screwdriver, pry off the temperature control knobs and remove them (Fig. 3 shows the left handle).

Figure: 3

Note
  • in the "Stinol-101" refrigerator there is only one knob of the temperature regulator. Then, remove the decorative cover 2. The cover has 6 projections that hold it in the dashboard. Two protrusions are located on the sides of the cover and two (below and above) at a distance of 17 cm from its edges. Since the cover is made of a fragile material, be careful when removing it. Having removed the cover, unscrew the nuts 1 for fastening the temperature regulators (Fig. 4).

Figure: 4

Then, the hex screws securing the dashboard are removed. It should be noted that when removing the panel, the last to unscrew the screws securing the door hinge plate 1 (Fig. 5).

Figure: five

In this case, the door must be supported. After unscrewing all the screws, raise the panel and remove the door. Then, on the back of the refrigerator, unscrew the fastening screws and remove the top cover. Remove the thermostat from the dashboard (Fig. 6), having previously disconnected the contact connectors from it.

Figure: 6

In order not to confuse the connectors when connecting a new regulator, they should be marked. In HK, unscrew the plastic strip 1 (Fig. 7) and release the capillary tube 2.

Figure: 7

Remove the lighting unit 1 (Fig. 8), after unscrewing the screw recessed in its housing.

Figure: 8

Pull the capillary tube of the thermostat outward through hole 2. Install and connect a new thermostat. When doing this, pay special attention not to damage the capillary tube. There is a section at the end of the tube where there is no insulation material. When installing the tube, make sure that this end is completely hidden under the decorative cover 1 (Fig. 7). To maintain the tightness of the HC, close the hole on the back of the refrigerator, formed during mounting / dismounting of the capillary tube, with plastic mass 1 (Fig. 9).

Figure: nine

Since the length of the capillary tube is much longer than required, it is carefully placed in the free cavities under the top cover of the refrigerator.

The refrigerator is assembled in reverse order. It should be noted that after installing the door, the screws securing its hinge 1 (Fig. 5) are tightened last.

Checking thermostats

It is clear that it is impossible to check thermostats at home; this requires special equipment. However, there is a simple way to check these devices by eye. At room temperature, contacts 3 and 4 of the "K" series thermostats must be closed. If there are signs of malfunction 1, close its contact with a jumper. 3 and 4. If the compressor then turns on, it can be concluded that the thermostat is faulty and must be replaced. It should be noted that the thermostats have adjustment screws. They, as a rule, are painted over and their adjustment without special equipment is not recommended. Table 1 shows the technical characteristics of the "K" series thermostats.
