HTC Desire V is not a castrated two-symbol. HTC Desire V - Specifications Htc desire v Specifications

Within the framework of this small material, two models of smartphones will be considered at once: HTC DESIRE V and HTC ONE V. Specifications, technical parameters and other important information will be given in this review. Both the first device and the second one went on sale 2 years ago. But even now you can still buy them. However, their parameters over the past 2 years, both morally and physically, have become outdated.

Equipment

Their equipment is identical. In addition to the device itself, it includes:

  1. Battery (for ONE its capacity is 1500 mA / h, and for DESIRE - 1650 mA / h).
  2. Standard stereo headset.
  3. Charger.
  4. Cord "MicroUSB / YUSB".
  5. Operation manual for the device.
  6. Warranty card.

Everything else (for example, a cover or a protective film) will have to be purchased separately for an additional fee.

Body and usability

The body of the ONE smartphone is made of metal (back cover and side ribs, as well as the bottom protrusion below the screen) and tempered glass (front panel above the display). Everything is done with high quality, there are no gaps and backlashes. An unusual feature of this device is the lower lip. It takes some getting used to, but there are tangible benefits from its appearance.

The first of them - the phone is more comfortable to hold in the hands, and the second - the microphone is closer to the lips, and the sound quality during a call becomes much better. HTC DESIRE V BLACK has a slightly different case. Its characteristics indicate that the body is made of plastic (back and sides), and the front panel is made of the same. Build quality is worse in this case. There are certain backlashes. And the language does not dare to call the body a monolithic one.

Another nuance that distinguishes this smartphone from the previous one is the lack of a bottom bend. The screen diagonal of ONE and DESIRE is almost the same. In the first case, it is 3.7 inches, and in the second - 4. It is not difficult to operate any of these devices with only one hand. In addition, the buttons and keys are located identically. The power button is on the upper side of the gadget, and the volume swing is on its right edge. Three standard touch keys are located above the bottom edge of the device.

CPU

An interesting situation with these devices turned out to be with the central processor. Both in the first and in the second case we are talking about the chips of the company "Kualcom". Only here ONE has a more productive CPU, and its cost is much lower (the price for it is now $ 150, and for DESIRE - $ 160), and it is positioned in the segment of entry devices. The only thing worth making an amendment is the number of supported SIM cards. ONE has only one slot for installing them, and DESIRE has 2. So, ONE has a single-core MCM8255 processor based on the Scorpion architecture. Its maximum frequency during peak loads is 1 GHz.

In turn, the MCM7227 CPU is installed in HTC DESIRE V. Its technical characteristics are more modest. Yes, the frequency is the same - 1 GHz, but the architecture of the A5 is an order of magnitude weaker than the Scorpion. Therefore, from the point of view of performance, it is preferable to choose ONE, but today this difference is not so significant. The computing power of the microcircuits is enough to solve such tasks: watching movies, listening to audio files, surfing the Internet, reading books and running simple games.

Graphics and display

As with processors, the ONE has a better graphics card. We are talking about the Adreno 205 accelerator, which in terms of computing power will be better than the Adreno 200 used in HTC DESIRE V. Its characteristics will be slightly worse. But, again, over the past two years, both of these adapters have become outdated and are not suitable for solving the most complex problems. The DESIRE has a slightly larger screen - its diagonal is 4 inches. The ONE has a slightly smaller diagonal - 3.7 inches. But their resolution is identical - 480 by 800. And the number of displayed colors is the same - more than 16 million. The touchscreen is designed for 2 touches simultaneously.

Cameras

It should be noted right away that there is no front camera in both the first and second devices. At the time of the release of these gadgets, such an attribute could only be found in very expensive devices. Hence the problem, which is that the ability to make full video calls is missing. You can either see the interlocutor, but he will not see you, or vice versa. In both cases, the cameras are based on an identical 5 megapixel matrix. There is also an autofocus system and an LED flash. But the video recording is better in HTC ONE V. The camera specifications indicate support for 720 x 1280 resolution, that is, a full HD, which the second smartphone can no longer boast of (only 480 x 800 pixels can be recorded by DESIRE). And here the problem is not with the camera, but with the processor, which is more efficient in ONE V.

Memory

The HTC DESIRE V cannot boast of an impressive organization of the memory subsystem. The characteristics in this regard are as follows:

  1. 0.5 GB RAM.
  2. 4 GB has built-in storage.
  3. The maximum size of external memory cards in this device is 32GB.

    The ONE V has similar characteristics. That is, we get full parity between these smartphones in terms of the memory subsystem.

    Accumulator battery

    An interesting situation from the standpoint of autonomy is developing with these devices. DESIRE has a larger battery capacity - 1650 mA / h versus 1500 mA / h for ONE V. But it also has a larger screen diagonal, and the number of SIM card slots - 2 versus 1. Hence, the battery life will be less for the first of them ... Therefore, from the standpoint of continuous operation from one battery charge, it is better to buy the HTC ONE V. The manufacturer's characteristics for this parameter guarantee 3 days of battery life.

    System software

    One of the first smartphones that worked under the control of "Android" with serial number 4.0 was HTC ONE V. Its characteristics at that time were really good. The situation is similar with DESIRE V. It operates on the basis of exactly the same operating system. Even the OS superstructure is identical - SENSE 4.0 from HTC. With its help, you can completely change the gadget interface to suit your needs. Whatever one may say, but from the point of view of system software, equality between these models is obtained.

    Application software

    An identical set of applications is installed on both DESIRE V and HTC ONE V. The characteristics of the memory subsystem, previously discussed, do not allow installing many applications on them. But all the same standard utilities (calculator, SMS messenger and calendar) are installed. Also, the developers have not forgotten about the programs "Google", which are installed on them in full. There are social international services: Facebook, Instagram, Google + and Twitter. The rest will have to be taken from the Play Market.

    Interface support

    HTC ONE V and HTC T328W DESIRE V have the same set of communications. The characteristics in this regard are as follows:

    1. The Wi-Fi module allows you to receive information on the Internet at a speed of up to 150 Mbit / s. Great for files of any size.
    2. Full support for the most common networks. These are “ZhSM” and “3Zh”. In the first case, the maximum information transfer rate is 0.5 Mbit / s (you can view simple sites and communicate on social networks), and in the second - 15 Mbit / s (in this case, there are practically no restrictions on the amount of downloaded information).
    3. The "Bluetooth" module allows you to almost instantly transfer small files to similar devices.
    4. The navigation module "ZhPS" makes it easy and simple to find the shortest route in the city or area.
    5. There are only 2 wired interfaces: "MicroUSB" and 3.5 mm audio port. The first one allows you to charge the battery and, if necessary, connect to a personal computer. The second one makes it possible to output the sound signal to an external speaker system.

: Usually, two-SIM devices are classified as a series of affordable and not the most expensive models. If we try to remember who was behind the creation of such devices, then the DUOS series from Samsung immediately pops up in our memory.

Now there are a lot of devices with two or more SIM-cards on sale, among them you can find many solutions for Android. For many, the smartphone becomes the main tool and assistant for work. Therefore, not everyone wants to carry another device for the second SIM-card with them, it is more convenient to combine everything in one.

It so happens that most of the dual-SIM smartphones are among the inexpensive models. When you need a representative device with expensive materials, a detailed interface and from a famous manufacturer, the choice is obvious - this is the new HTC Desire V. The segment of non-top, but solid smartphones is still empty, so HTC has an excellent opportunity to be the first in this group of models.

Design

HTC Desire V is medium in size and can be called optimal and most comfortable for most users. The dimensions of the body of the device are 118.5x62.3x9.32 mm, the weight is 114 g. The smartphone is slightly larger than the one it is very similar to, but the new model has become lighter, there is a 16 g difference between them.

If the latest models of the One line received one-piece cases without removable parts, then the Desire V has the ability to look at the insides. How to remove the lid in this case is not very clear, no recesses are provided, I just clung to the ledge at the top and pulled the plastic part towards me.

The lid is quite thin, similar solutions have already been found in smartphones, for example, in Samsung. But if the Koreans have the lid tightly, then here after a while after using the device it starts to creak.

The phone comes in two colors: either black or white. In the first case, there are no catchy decorative elements, and in the second, the back part will be decorated with a bright insert.

The dimensions of the phone are well matched, this is one of those cases when the rounded shape of the body is optimally combined with the dimensions of the smartphone, it will immediately please the maximum circle of users.

HTC has a tradition of making a slightly raised lower part in different devices. The protrusion in HTC Desire V is small, but in the same one it is more noticeable. It seems to me that in this way it is easier to distinguish a smartphone from the rest, such a design technique makes the product recognizable, but at the same time, such a step is not only aesthetic in nature. Due to it, the phone is more comfortable to hold in hand, which can also be attributed to the pluses.

The entire panel is covered with durable Gorilla Glass. At the top, there will be an earpiece speaker, a light indicator and a set of light and proximity sensors.

To control the device, there are three touch buttons, which are located in the following order: back, home, task manager. The place chosen is convenient, everyone can be easily reached. There is a backlight, which is especially visible when there is no external lighting. Also, at the request of the user, you can activate vibration, which will be triggered when one of the keys is touched.

The microphone is at the bottom.

The top has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a screen lock button. It is not the most comfortable one because it got a low profile.

The cable for charging or data sync is plugged into the corresponding connector on the left.

On the right is the volume control button.

The back of the smartphone is interesting in the design of the camera, the module is located on a small insert that goes flush with the body.

There is a flash next to it. All removable parts are plastic and thin. Beneath it lies the battery, SIM card compartment and microSD storage.

Screen

The smartphone uses a Super-LCD 2 screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels and a diagonal of 4 inches. The sensor for automatic brightness adjustment works well, as well as the proximity sensor, which locks the screen during a call.

The capacitive display is covered with glass, which prevents the appearance of scratches and abrasions, up to 10 simultaneous touches are processed.

In the sun, the image remains readable, although it fades. The backlight supply is enough for indoor use; outdoors, problems can only occur in very bright lighting.

There are no complaints about the color rendering and picture quality. The resolution is typical for such a diagonal, the pixel density today may not seem high enough, but in the middle class you shouldn't expect anything more.

Platform

The smartphone has a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM 7227A Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 205 graphics chip, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory are available. Of these, only 1 GB remains for the user. There is also a slot for a microSD card, where you can install a drive up to 32 GB.

The smartphone runs Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC Sense 4.0 shell. The device is not fast, which is noticeable when working with a browser, switching between applications. The smartphone will not slow down when typing or operations of a similar kind, but in general, to see such behavior in a device for 16,000 rubles is sad.

Interface

At the top of the screen there is a service line, which displays the time, battery charge, an indicator of the signal reception level of both SIM cards. Active connections and other data are also displayed there. By clicking on it, you can find out in more detail about which programs were downloaded, what messages and letters were received, or which files were received via Bluetooth.

From here, they removed a line from the menu of running applications and control some functions that were assigned to shortcuts. But there is still a button that takes you to the settings menu. And already there certain tasks are enabled or disabled. A separate menu will show information about the occupied and free memory.

On each of the work areas, you can place several widgets, it all depends on their size. You can also add app shortcuts and folders. But in general, the set of widgets is not as rich as in the more expensive One line models.

When you select graphics, a set of desktops is displayed at the top of the screen, and a list of available elements is displayed at the bottom, from where you can move the required element to one of these zones.

In total, there are five desktops, their number cannot be reduced, unlike the older models. Also, 3D disappeared when moving between tables and animation on the lock screen.

As before, HTC places great emphasis on smartphone personalization. For this, a separate section of settings is highlighted, where you can select the theme of the design, cover, set the background image. Any image from the device memory can serve as a picture. There is no "live" wallpaper here. The basic equipment includes 3 covers and 1 plots, and when you want something new, you can visit the company store, where you can easily find a stylish design.

At the bottom of the main screen, a line of five shortcuts is displayed: calls, mail, menus, messages, camera. All of them, except for the menus, are customizable: their order is changed, more urgent tasks are set instead of standard functions.

On the lock screen, you can see the operator's name, time and date. Four icons will appear at the bottom. There is a metal ring under them, but only part of it is visible. Swiping the virtual part upwards unlocks the display. It looks very impressive. If earlier the shortcuts on this screen were crushed manually, now they simply duplicate those that are placed on the main screen in the menu.

The menu consists of application icons, which are arranged in alphabetical order. One screen displays 20 icons, zones with labels are scrolled left or right with smooth animation. Sorting by date is also enabled: the newest or oldest are selected as priority ones to form the list. Separate buttons can be used to highlight independently installed programs and frequently used applications. The tab at the top helps you access options, search, and navigate to the app store.

The highlighted key launches the menu of running tasks, which are displayed in the form of vertical panels-thumbnails of open windows.

Phone book

The general list shows contacts from both the phone memory and SIM cards, as well as data from the Google account and social networks, which can be combined into one contact. There is a function for selecting the desired data, which will hide unnecessary information.

When creating a new contact, the user is provided with a variety of information. This includes various types of phone numbers, email addresses, quick communication tools (AIM, ICQ, Gtalk, Skype, and others), residential addresses and other information (nickname, birthday, automatically added to the calendar, note). Search among contacts by the first letters of the first or last name works.

If you click on the place reserved for the picture for the subscriber, a quick menu is called up, with the help of which a message, mail is sent, and a phone call is made to the selected person. You can also contact him using contact information from social networks. The numbers can be assigned to different groups, which are assigned an individual signal.

If you select a contact among the existing ones, a window opens with the fields assigned to it. Here you will see a picture, contact numbers, social media data and other specified information. You can go to the gallery, which will show the pictures of this user uploaded to Facebook. The log will display the history of calls, messages and information about the correspondence by e-mail.

Calls

Directly from the phone book, you can access the call log - it is highlighted in a separate tab. There the dialed numbers, received and missed calls are listed as a single list. They are marked with a small number that will indicate the used card. All telephone conversations fall into one list. Here you can display incoming, outgoing or missed calls.

The number is dialed using a convenient virtual keyboard, where there is space for two bell buttons for each SIM-card. Viewing the call history, you can not only make a telephone conversation with the selected subscriber, but also send him an SMS or e-mail from this list without going to another menu. As you enter numbers, the phone automatically displays matching contacts by selecting from numbers stored in its memory or by starting a name search. The phone has speed dialing, you can assign up to 8 numbers to the number keys.

One radio module sets its own limitations, dialogue on both SIM-cards at the same time is excluded here. But this is a trait of many current devices with a pair of SIM-cards, so it is worth treating this with understanding.

Posts

For SMS and MMS, there is a shared folder where received messages go. When sending, adding various objects to the SMS, you can automatically convert it to MMS. Messages are grouped by recipients in the correspondence feed. Search inside the message archive works. By dialing the subscriber's number, the phone displays a list of suitable numbers by alternating digits.

The device can copy, cut and paste text. Font size is set in messages: small, medium, large, very large. The received text can be forwarded to another number, moved to the SIM card, added to the calendar as a task, or blocked from receiving messages from this number in the future. The option of archiving messages is provided, sorting by date, name works.

Smart input is available, when correction and autocomplete systems help you type in text, allowing you not to waste time correcting mistakes. You can type text without lifting your finger from the screen, the smartphone will automatically substitute suitable words. Voice typing is also well implemented. The sizes of the keys are large, they are accompanied by pleasant vibration feedback, which can be disabled.

Email

To work with e-mail, automatic mailbox configuration starts. Unless it's Gmail, connecting immediately after the email address was entered during the initial activation of the phone. It includes entering basic information (login, password). The phone perfectly understands various encodings, supports downloading attachments in familiar formats.

The name of the selected folder is indicated at the top of the section. Below is a description of the letter with the sender's data, subject and part of the text it contains. If there is an attachment, it will be marked with an icon. The search works, the font changes, and a signature is added to the text, the synchronization period and sound notification parameters are set.

When composing a letter, you can also attach various files from the device memory to it. The function of copying text and automatic mailbox check also works, including the interval set manually. The device runs two applications simultaneously - Gmail and E-mail. The only difference is that in the first one, mail comes only from the Gmail.com server, while the second application works with any mail storages. You can create multiple email accounts, each with a different color. This is convenient because you can view mail for each mailbox separately, and display messages from all accounts in one. Sorting of mail by date, subject, sender and size works.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5-megapixel F2.8 34mm module with autofocus and LED flash. There is no quick launch button, the easiest option is to use the shortcut on the lock screen to quickly start shooting. An important quality was the function of taking a snapshot when recording a video, which does not require stopping this process. Burst shooting is also perfectly implemented here, which allows you to reduce the likelihood of the number of unsuccessful shots when photographing dynamic scenes.

The settings menu is called by the button on the left. At the top, flash options open, and at the bottom, shooting mode is activated. The general idea remains the same: the keys for shooting photos and videos are located on the right, from here you can quickly go to the gallery or select effects.

Camera settings:

Subjects: auto, HDR, panorama, portrait, group landscape, white board, close-up, low light.

Timer: 2, 10 seconds.

Photo resolution: 5M (2592x1952), 3M (2048x1536), 1M (1280x960), 0.3M (640x480 pixels).

Review after shooting: 3, 5 seconds, unlimited.

ISO: auto, 100, 200, 400, 800.

White balance: auto, incandescent, fluorescent, daylight, cloudy.

Face detection, automatic smile detection, widescreen 4: 3, geotagging, grid activated, flash, shutter sound off.

The quality of the pictures is good, HTCs have been shooting much better last year than before. Although HTC Desire V cannot be called the best of its kind, there are more attractive solutions for the same money in terms of photos.

Gallery

All images from the smartphone's memory go to the general section of the gallery, where they are presented by folders. The gallery works in both portrait and landscape mode. You can choose other criteria for viewing the data by uploading images from Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, Picasa, or Skydrive. In the settings, hidden albums are set, the existence of which will not be known to anyone except the owner of the smartphone.

While viewing files, a slideshow is turned on, which is complemented by music. The picture is sent to various social networks, storages, in a message or via Bluetooth. It is set as wallpaper, used for a contact, or added to the favorites list.

The picture can be cropped or processed in the built-in photo editor, which offers many beautiful effects.

Video player

The following video formats are supported: .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .wmv (Windows Media Video 9), .avi (MP4 ASP and MP3). The video is played in full screen, you can rewind using separate keys. You need to put a separate player in order to play all videos for sure. The player remembers where the video playback stopped in different files. The player adjusts the brightness level, you can take a screenshot.

Player

When you open the player, which is highlighted in the menu with a bright red icon, you can see several icons. The first one leads to the player itself. Also included are SoundHound, the TuneIn internet radio and 7Digital, which leads to the music store. Extra shortcuts are removed from here, and new ones are added from the menu. Thus, you get a separate group of all sound-related applications, which is quite convenient.

The recently played songs are shown just below, as well as the data about the currently playing song. When you select the section with music in your phone, the player menu itself will open. It offers several criteria for sorting: albums, artists, songs, playlists, genres. In any case, the screen will display files that are clearly highlighted by covers and signatures. This is where the search and blended play function works. The library search function is also useful.

Selecting the desired album will open the following menu. In it you can see the cover, information about the number of tracks, genre, year. The song is sent to the playlist or to another device. In another menu, a large list of additional actions is called up, where you can find not only information about the song, but also the ability to set it as a ringtone.

While songs are playing, the display shows the album, artist name, track title, duration and time remaining. The track is added to the play queue, sent to an external device via DLNA. A convenient option for downloading covers is supported, which helps to bring the album into a presentable look. The player works in both landscape and portrait modes.

When you enable Sound Enhancement using the Beats software option, you can see how the sound changes when listening to different genres of music. It works with any headphones connected to the smartphone. When listening to music with the keyboard locked, pressing the mechanical key wakes up the screen, then the display will show the player control menu and the album cover, if any. This is convenient and allows you not to go into the menu if you want to switch to another track. When the keypad is locked, adjust the volume in the player using the side buttons. The smartphone plays music well, but this is not the level of the older models of the One line.

Radio

The radio is able to independently search for stations and store them in its memory. In this case, you can make a list of your favorites and quickly switch between them. There is support for RDS, as well as the function of playing through the phone's speaker. You can rename the stations in the phone memory yourself. There is a SoundHound search that works in radio or music player mode. It will help you quickly find detailed information about an interesting composition.

Browser

The browser works in both horizontal and vertical screen orientations. Thanks to multi-touch pages, they are easily scalable (virtual keys also work to change the size of the displayed one), the browser interface itself is clear and convenient. At the top is the address bar, next to it is the icon, clicking on which adds the page to bookmarks. At the bottom of the screen, an additional menu is called in the form of a sliding panel, which allows you to open new windows.

The browser supports the function of simultaneous work with several involved pages. You can switch between them, update the page, view bookmarks and perform some other options (search by text, view downloaded files, and others). While scrolling down the page, the address bar disappears, but during scrolling, it may reappear. It is very convenient that when scaling pages, they adapt to the boundaries of the screen, they are pleasant and comfortable to view. There is support for Flash, if desired, animation can be disabled.

In terms of speed, the application is inferior to older devices, sites with large data are not loaded so quickly. You have to wait until the pages are fully loaded. Sometimes web resources freeze, the smartphone does not go to the specified address, you have to reload the page. The pop-up menu that can suddenly appear on the screen does not always work adequately. In fact, everything turns out to be not so bad as it is written here, just some of the possible shortcomings in the application are listed.

Organizer

The calendar is displayed as a month, week, one day, or a list of recorded events. The device can notify about a calendar event both with a sound signal and with a reminder in the service line. The notification time is adjustable, it varies from 5 minutes to 1 week.

On your smartphone, you can configure which events to display in the calendar and which not. There is a division of information by storage location, each option has its own color label. When creating a new record, its name, date, place, repeat (daily, once a week, monthly, annually) are specified. An alert signal is assigned for a certain period of time before the event occurs, a description of this event. The day of the start of the week is set.

Clock

The smartphone allows you to store multiple alarms in memory. The repetition is set both once and for every day, only for working days or weekly. The type of signal varies: melody or melody and vibration.

The world time, stopwatch and timer functions work. It is possible to display a large clock on the screen - the phone will act as a replacement for the desktop clock. It also displays a beautifully designed weather forecast for the coming days.

The calculator works in both vertical and horizontal position of the phone, when many more functions are available.

Google Play offers thousands of programs, among which you can choose the required set of applications for yourself. There is a convenient search function, as well as dividing programs into categories, which greatly simplifies browsing. You can look at the reviews, rate the rating and express your opinion about the software. Each application is provided with a short description and images for better clarity. An interesting feature is the ability to automatically download all previously purchased applications. By entering the login and password of your account and starting synchronization, the device will automatically start installing these programs.

Google Maps is used for navigation. The only drawback is that the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, thus, the application has become fully functional and convenient not only for pedestrians, but also for car owners.

There is a function of determining the current location, calculating the route from the start to the end point, and you can set the way of movement: by car, on foot or by public transport. The route is laid on the map, while key places are indicated in the form of text messages, which are displayed on the screen in the form of a column, you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and pave another path. Scaling works with multitouch. Street View helps you see images of the desired location, making it much easier to find unfamiliar places.

Applications

YouTube is a standard application for most modern devices that allows you to watch videos and search among them. The application runs in full screen mode.

There is an application that combines weather data and news feed.

Polaris Office helps you view various documents on your phone screen.

The default Twitter application has been installed.

The flash works as a flashlight. It is launched by a separate application that allows you to vary the brightness level.

Access to Facebook is carried out through the application of the same name.

Sound Hound allows you to identify the music sounding nearby.

Google Talk is a chat for communication.

HTC Hub offers to design the device screen with new schemes, install applications from the branded section.

The Dropbox storage offers 25GB of storage for the HTC smartphone user.

TuneIn helps you listen to internet radio.

Tasks are created with due date, recurrence, reminder and priority.

Connections

The phone operates in the frequencies GSM / GPRS / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and WCDMA 900/2100 MHz. But 3G networks are supported only by the first SIM, while the second offers slower EDGE networks.

When connecting to a computer using USB 2.0, the user can choose between several modes: charging only, data synchronization using HTC Sync, connecting as a storage device, accessing the Internet via a phone, connecting the phone to the Internet via a PC.

There is Bluetooth 4.0 with support for numerous profiles, including A2DP.

Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n works well, is able to remember passwords of networks that were once entered, and automatically connect to them, being within their range.

There is a function with which a smartphone can be used as an access point to the network for other devices: you can set a limit on the number of users, and also set the level of network protection by setting a password for accessing it.

Battery

The smartphone is powered by a built-in 1500 mAh lithium-ion battery. In video playback mode at maximum brightness with working wireless modules, the charge lasted for almost 5 hours.

In normal use with the player, the Internet, photos, calls and data synchronization, it takes one business day. You can get two days, if you have a little mobile Internet, turn off data transmission and use it as needed. The data is not the worst, although with a very large number of calls, you may face the fact that the device will have to be charged twice a day.

Impression

A speaker for conversations with pleasant voice transmission, but a small headroom. The vibration signal is average in strength, it is not always felt. The ringtone is clear, but not very loud.

It is convenient to have two SIM cards on hand and not carry an additional device with you. HTC Desire V is inferior to its counterparts, but it is the second card that acts as a bonus, for a certain group of users this will be a decisive factor when choosing a smartphone. At the same time, for the same money, you can buy a device that is more attractive in terms of filling. For example, it will cost 12,000 rubles, and for the remaining 4000 you can buy a good "push-button" phone like.

Of course, it is not difficult to find other combinations, the point is that HTC should more adequately assess the quality of its smartphones and set prices for them in a reasonable proportion. On the other hand, the "gray" HTC One V can now be bought for 10,000 rubles, so it is quite possible that after a few months the HTC Desire V will cost the same amount. But now there is a cheaper smartphone from ZTE, and there are, albeit with simpler characteristics. It is highly likely that not only HTC will release mid-range solutions with dual SIM cards. And if models from Samsung, LG or Sony with similar capabilities appear in this segment, then the company will have a very difficult time, based on the current pricing positions.

HTC Desire V smartphone review: sit down, two

In Taiwan, it is considered normal if a person carries two mobile phones with him: one for official calls, the other is reserved exclusively for relatives and family. Of course, there are also “two-SIM” devices on sale, as well as three-, four- and even five-SIM devices - with them you can afford to have separate numbers for your boss, friends, wife, mistress, and one more specifically for spam SMS.

"It can't be!", And I wanted to scream, seeing the announcement of HTC Desire V. But this is really so, the Taiwanese manufacturer has actually released an Android smartphone with support for 2 SIM cards. In addition, the device has good software and hardware stuffing, and is also one of the last in the Beats Audio line.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Design and features

Let's traditionally start with the exterior. The dimensions of the Desire V are average by the standards of modern devices and even, probably, compact for the available functionality. In numbers it is 118.5 x 62.3 x 9.32 mm and 114 grams. Due to this, the small thickness and rounded corners, the smartphone fits well in the palm of your hand and is comfortable to work with. Desire V has a certain personality, and it does not get lost among the diversity of even its fellows. At the same time, the familiar lines have not disappeared anywhere: this is a fancy bend under the control keys, the familiar edging of the front panel and the type of mechanical keys, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Body materials - a symbiosis of metal and plastic. The rear panel is a soft-touch boat, if it is not a hull-forming one, then it has an impressive "weight" among the elements. This is followed by the edging of the front and side surfaces, which constitutes a kind of stiffening rib. The top of the design is Gorilla Glass to protect the display and the surrounding areas. As you can see, the body colors are calm and even austere, the assembly is solid, but the device is not perceived too serious.

The structural elements are standard and laconic: at the junction of the front panel and the edging on top there is an inverted trapezoid of the earpiece, in the recess of which there is a mesh. Slightly lower on the right is a work indicator, invisible in inactivity. Under the display is a block-strip of touch control keys: "back", "home" and "list of running applications", with good dial sensitivity and moderately bright white backlighting.

The Desire V display itself is a 4 "Super LCD matrix with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. The picture quality is good, the clarity is high, the colors are saturated, and the brightness with a margin. Capacitive technology and support for multi-touch up to 4 simultaneous touches in the testing process proved their worth - there are no complaints about the screen in these parameters. Alas, the behavior in the sun is depressing - the screen fades a little more than completely.

The left side of the device is given to accommodate only the micro-USB interface connector, shifted upwards from the center and does not have any protective cap. The right one is similar, under a thin volume rocker, in about the same place. Only the microphone hole is placed on the bottom one, while the top one is the most saturated: there are 2 elements - a 3.5mm audio jack on the left and a power button in the center.

On the back panel, items are grouped along the left side, with the camera and flash console at the top, and the speaker perforation at the bottom.

Prying with a fingernail or, for example, a knife blade, the slit of the boat on the back panel, we can remove it by snapping off the fastening projections. Inside we are waiting for a battery (1650 mAh) in a corresponding recess and a card platform. The SIM card compartments are located back to back and look like trays with fixing U-shaped brackets above them. The main, 1st card is hidden under the camera console and access to it is difficult (probably, the manufacturer thinks that the user will only change the 2nd card and that not often). The microSD card compartment is located perpendicular to the SIM "cameras and has a similar shape without a sled. Note an interesting feature that manifested itself as a result of testing: when putting on the back casing of the smartphone, it is not even an hour to bend the contact pad of the shutdown button, from which it stops working correctly. We think you are not you will remove the cover so often, but it is worth warning.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: User interface

The smartphone has relatively fresh, but not the latest software: Android 4.0.3 and the proprietary Sense 4 shell. We have already stopped at that in the "One" line, there is no particular difference with the Desire V in this case. Before us is the same colorful lock screen interface with an unlocking ring and frequently used applications, five personalized desktops without circular scrolling, and a notification area naked against the background of Gingerbread. Still, you get colorful widgets from the manufacturer, an untouched previously launched app manager, one theme, and tons of wallpapers.

The main menu of page type and matrix view still supports different types of sorting, and the tabs at the bottom will make it easier to navigate through the variety of applications. The settings menu is executed in a vertical list and does not differ much from that in the "bare" OS.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Dual SIM

The service of simultaneous operation of two SIM-cards is organized competently. To begin with, we note that when installed in card slots, a setting is offered (hot swapping is possible). The general point of the network manager will allow tapom to activate and deactivate one of the cards, as well as select the name and preferred network. Note that slot two lacks support for 3G, and there is only one radio module here: when working with the first card, you cannot get through to the second one. In familiar applications such as a dialer and sms, a second button appears, allowing you to select the sending provider, and the indication in incoming events is performed by a digit to the left of the subscriber.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Telephone service

The dial pad is familiar, the keys are comfortable to work with, and above it there is either a notebook or the last calls, depending on whether there were calls. Call filtering is also provided, but there is no separate application for them.

As before, the notebook assumes filling in the maximum number of fields and synchronization with various accounts: nothing extraordinary, but for fans of the system, the ease of updating the book is reduced to synchronization with a Google account.

HTC Desire V :: Overview :: Messages

Sms and mms are grouped by addressee / number and inside are a sheet of clouds of correspondence. The compilation principle is also simple: the text input window is at the bottom, and the main screen area is reserved for the dialog. The settings are, as always, extensive, the options for adding content are maximum, the transformation of types is automatic.

The e-mail client is easy to set up, for typical providers there are already the necessary parameters in memory, all that remains is to enter the username / password. The display principle is a vertical list, the sender is "bold", and the message itself is in a system font, no more than three rows. Composing is also familiar: to whom, subject and input field. All additional fields under the virtual menu key. The settings are standard, they allow you to both make changes to the account, and set up a scheduled scan, notifications.

Gmail has its own item, which is similar in essence, but with its own interface. The distinction between native and third-party clients is a standard for the platform.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Organizer, office

The office suite includes a traditional set of applications scattered around the menu. Among them: the office suite Polaris Office, a list of tasks, a calendar with many settings and synchronizations, an adding calculator and a clock that includes world time, alarms, stopwatch and timers. In general, everything you need and sufficient is there, and additional programs are not difficult to take from Google Play.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Communications

The device is capable of operating in networks GSM / GPRS / EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz, HSPA / WCDMA 900/2100 MHz (only slot number 1), has Wi-Fi® support: IEEE 802.11b / g / n, Bluetooth® 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. Module activation has been removed from the notification area, which, in our opinion, is strange and not logical - plus one action in the settings menu. The performance of the models is not satisfactory, and for WiFi there is traditionally a “portable access point” that will allow you to “share” the Internet from a smartphone, for example, for a laptop.

HTC Desire V :: Overview :: Maps & GPS

A mapping service from Google Maps with traditional functionality is supplemented with Locations from the manufacturer, a beta version of navigation and a "car panel". The kit is suitable for traveling within the city, but in general we would look for third-party software for these tasks.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Internet

The Internet browser with the Google home page has not undergone any special changes: a traditional working and functional tool with the usual options: bookmarks, page search, desktop version, downloads, history and various settings. Why not immediately install the Chrome browser available on Ice Cream Sandvich is a mystery to us. Perhaps it's the status - beta.

HTC Desire V :: Review :: Camera

The camera interface is optimized by the manufacturer for easy one-handed shooting. Control indicators and settings are placed on the field of the viewfinder. Despite the not very stellar characteristics of the module, 5 megapixels, the personification of the shooting is very rich: from quality and size, to various image sliders, light sensitivity parameters, white balance and effects. In general, the quality of the shooting is good, but the autofocus is not always accurate, especially in low light, and is also thoughtful. Test shots, we think, will shed light on the quality of the shooting.

Yes, there is a flash function, a "flashlight" in Desire V, as a proprietary feature of the manufacturer.

HTC Desire V :: Overview :: Multimedia

The music service, in addition to the player, includes a voice recorder and FM radio, as well as Internet services: 7 digital, a song store, Sound Hound music recognizer and ToneIn Internet radio. The player has a familiar interface and functionality: it finds songs anywhere (internal memory, card), allows sorting by tags, and displays a control widget on the lock screen. Sound quality is good, but nothing outstanding, despite the claimed Beats Audio ™ feature.

FM radio has a common requirement for a wired headset to be used as an antenna. Further, the familiar interface and functionality, with Sound Hound integration.

The dictaphone will offer to choose the encoding format and location of the recordings, but as before, the sound from the line does not write. The application interface is nice.

HTC Desire V :: Overview :: Apps

The set of applications included in the basic package is familiar to the manufacturer. Among them:

  • Adobe reader;
  • Dropbox - network storage with a bonus from the manufacturer;
  • Facebook;
  • Flash Player;
  • Friend Stream is a social hub;
  • HTC Hub;
  • Teeter is a traditional ball and hole game;
  • YouTube;
  • Task Manager;
  • Downloads;
  • News and weather;
  • The selection is not redundant and well thought out, for the first time, out of the box, the smartphone is ready for simple work.

    HTC Desire V :: Review :: Hardware Features

    The hardware characteristics of the smartphone are as follows: this is a Qualcomm MSM 7227A processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of flash memory, plus support for microSD memory cards. The device does not have enough stars from the sky, it can be seen from the screenshots of tests, but, oddly enough, in everyday life it copes well with the tasks. Those. We clearly did not record any delays in the response of the interface, thoughtfulness when executing applications. Moreover, in comparison with the Sensation XE, which by that time was updated to 4.0.3, the Desire V visually works even smoother.

    HTC Desire V :: Review :: Impressions and conclusions

    Despite the presence of two SIM-cards, the battery life of a smartphone is on average a working day. Of course, you can reduce this indicator by increasing the load or increase it by deactivating one of the cards, but this is not for everybody. The network reception quality is at a decent level, no failures were recorded. On the other hand, usually one module in places of poor reception, usually backs up the other (we used MTS and Beeline), and so it was with us.

    The call volume is sufficient for most situations, there are no difficulties with this, and the vibration alert is a good assistant in notification, although the motor is average in power. The speaker is clear, with a small margin, and there were no complaints about the microphone from the interlocutors.

    What is the bottom line of the above? Apart from the fact that, in our opinion, HTC cannot fully decide on the name of the products and finally let the Desire line go into the past, everything is more than good. A pleasant and comfortable-sized smartphone with a high-quality assembly from a well-known brand, on a fresh OS and with a competent study of the Dual-SIM service. With an average cost of 13,000 rubles at the time of writing the review, the solution seems to be optimal: yes, there are flaws in the screen and RAM, not the most stellar battery life, but overall, the overall impression is positive. Having the need for a smart phone and at the same time the need for 2 SIM-cards, there is no particular choice, and is it really necessary?
