The smartphone is equipped with a 5-inch display made using IPS technology with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. Despite the low pixel density, the image looks good. The matrix used has good viewing angles and natural color reproduction.
Despite the small air gap between the protective coating and the display, the picture remains readable even on a bright fine day.
Ergonomics
Thoughtful design is one of the key features of a smartphone. It fits well in the palm of a medium size, and the matte finish of the lid will not allow the device to slip out even from wet hands.

The Huawei Ascend G610 is based on the well-proven MediaTek MT6589 hardware platform, made using a 28nm process technology. The chip includes a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a powerful PowerVR SGX 544 graphics accelerator.
Also, the smartphone is equipped with 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of user space, of which a little more than 2 GB is available to the owner. The built-in data storage can be expanded with microSD cards.
In synthetic tests, the Huawei Ascend G610 showed a fairly good level of performance. In real conditions, the smartphone can easily cope with the most common tasks and even with the launch of demanding games and watching videos at maximum resolution.
Camera
Together with a front-facing VGA camera for video communication, the smartphone received a main camera with a 5-megapixel matrix.
The maximum resolution for still images is 2560 x 1920 pixels, and video is recorded in HD (1280 x 720 pixels). The resulting photos are distinguished by natural color reproduction and good detail.
The Camera application has an unobtrusive interface that even a novice smartphone user can make friends with.

The Android smartphone market is overflowing with budget solutions. Two SIM cards, an ordinary appearance or imitation of the current flagships of other manufacturers, low build quality and the most cost-effective components are constant companions of such devices. Nevertheless, despite the fact that supply has long exceeded demand, every month we learn about more and more smartphones with identical characteristics to each other, ready to win their market share and customers.
The hero of our today's review was the Huawei Ascend G610 - not a newbie and not something revolutionary, but a fairly balanced smartphone that will surely find its buyer.

Huawei Ascend G610 looks very discreet. Like other phones, it is shaped like a rectangle with rounded corners. Two color variations - black and white - differ from each other in body materials. In white, the back cover is made of glossy, abundantly covered with prints, in black - matte plastic, pleasant to the touch.
We got the last modification for the test - much more practical and looking more advantageous. Interestingly, in its shape and size, the smartphone is completely identical to last year's flagship G2 from LG. It turned out to be unexpectedly heavy and bulky, even considering the presence of a five-inch display. Despite this, the device fits comfortably in the hand, and its dimensions make it easy to use with one hand.
The front panel is not replete with elements. Everything is usual: three touch-sensitive keys "Back", "Home" and "Menu" under the screen, the mesh of the earpiece, the company logo, the front camera and proximity / light sensors above it. A nice feature was the presence of a notification light, located slightly to the left of the logo. All this is covered with glass, which, however, weakly protects against scratches, which makes the presence of a film very, very preferable for the active use of a smartphone.
The silver bezel is also prone to chipping and scratching. The controls, which are mostly located on the right side of the device, have a clear stroke and are well felt even in the dark. So, on the right side there is a double volume rocker, a power / lock button and a small hole for opening the back cover. At the bottom is a microUSB connector and a microphone, at the top is a 3.5 mm audio jack.
If the front of the smartphone looks acceptable and even pleasant, then the back is absolutely faceless. Gray matte plastic, disproportionately small camera lens, company logo and speaker slot are lost and look too budgetary. Despite all the design flaws, the smartphone is assembled well, even better than many devices of the class above.
I did not notice any creaks or backlashes - the latches on which the back cover is attached do their job very well. And the practicality of the back is commendable - it does not collect scratches and fingerprints at all.
Screen Huawei Ascend G610
Although an IPS-matrix is \u200b\u200bused here, its quality is at an average level. Among the advantages is natural color rendering. But slight fading of the picture when viewed at an angle and low contrast spoil the impression a little. The pixel density is low, which is also striking. 960x540 in 2014 is more of a relic of the past than a budget solution. As for me, it is this component that should be least of all subject to reduction in price. But, at the same time, the Huawei G610 has no obvious competitors with a better screen at this price. The brightness can be varied from 12 to 323 cd / m², auto correction works fine. This is not enough to neutralize the fading of the screen in the bright sun, but the information from it remains quite readable. The minimum brightness is comfortable for reading in complete darkness.
Media capabilities
There are no surprises here either. The set of built-in codecs is not numerous; to view .mkv files you need a third-party player, since there are enough of them in the Play Store. There is no separate application in the system, all videos are in the gallery along with photos. This Huawei Ascend G610 does not have any interesting features, like playing on top of other windows. Video playback up to 1080p is smooth. The smartphone sounds good, but you don't expect miracles from it.
A standard headset should be enough for a user who is not picky about sound. The external speaker is loud enough, does not wheeze even at its maximum values. The music player is extremely simple, but copes well with basic functions. The only drawback is that by default it sorts songs not by the order of the tracks in the album, but by the title, which can cause some inconvenience. When playing tracks, the lock screen displays the name of the track with cover art and playback control buttons.
The built-in browser is fine, although the Chrome alternative seems preferable. The main problem with the standard solution is searching in the address bar. By default, the space is replaced with ".com" and a set of a search query of two or more words in the Latin alphabet becomes a torment with constant switching to the Russian layout and back. It is possible to work with seven simultaneously open tabs.
Camera Huawei Ascend G610
By far the weakest point of the Huawei G610 is its camera. If the front still meets the expectations, then the back is an echo of the past. A 5MP module that results in a pale, often fuzzy photo with incorrectly set white balance - this can be forgiven for a smartphone in this price range. I would like to note that in the bright time of the day you can often get pretty good pictures, provided that the automatic flaws in the photo editor are corrected.
But, even in spite of this, the pictures lack sharpness, autofocus does not always work correctly, and I do not recommend using the camera in low light conditions.
Among the settings there is an opportunity to choose from several scene modes and a set of standard effects (sepia, negative, monochrome), as well as select a value of photosensitivity in the range from 100 to 800 units, change contrast, brightness, exposure and saturation. There is a panorama mode, burst shooting and HDR.
Video is recorded in a maximum resolution of 720p, and the camera in this mode has a minimum of settings: recording quality, enabling or disabling stabilization and GPS tags. The front camera is 0.3 MP without autofocus, but it is enough for self-shots in the daytime.
Telephone functions
The main telephone feature of Huawei G610 is support for two miniSIM cards. This is both a competitive advantage and an integral part of most modern budget smartphones.
Two SIM slots are located under the rear panel. On the back is a second microphone, which filters out extraneous noise well. The main one is of average quality, the interlocutors do not complain.
In a special menu, you can select a default card for calls, SMS messages and the Internet. 3G Internet is supported only by the first slot, the second - exclusively by 2G.
Performance and battery life
The smartphone is built on a bundle of one of the cheapest MediaTek MT6589 chips and PowerVR SGX544 graphics, typical for most Chinese smartphones. The processor is made on a 28 nm process technology and has four Cortex A7 cores with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz each. The use of such a solution is atypical for Huawei and at the same time is a step forward, since the company's flagships were often based on gluttonous K3V2 chips, made using a 40 nm process technology.
In performance tests the G610 showed itself at the level of the flagships of the year before last, but, as usual, the impressions from work will be much more eloquent. The screen resolution is far from the highest and 1 GB of RAM ensure the smoothness and stability of the smartphone interface in most everyday situations. Any jerking is a completely atypical phenomenon for him. Moreover, the performance is sufficient to run quite demanding games such as Asphalt 8 at high graphics settings. At the same time, the smartphone does not overheat, and the number of frames per second is sufficient for a comfortable game. G610 is equipped with 4 GB of internal memory, of which 1.9 GB is available to the user. The microSD card slot saves the day (hot swappable). The smartphone has a 2150 mAh battery. Thanks to the energy efficiency of the Mediatek platform, this capacity is enough for two days of work in a mode of not too active use.
Software platform
The smartphone runs Android 4.2 with a proprietary shell Emotion UI 1.6. Its main feature is the absence of any application menu. This decision is not for everybody. Someone may appreciate it, but personally I don't like this way of organizing applications.
The main screen quickly fills up with them, and even the presence of folders and the ability to add up to nine work screens does not save the situation. In general, the shell is made in the most Chinese style. The presence of many themes that look too unattractive, various animations for changing desktops, icons that were clearly not worked on enough, ugly widgets - all this left an extremely negative impression.
Speaking of built-in applications, I couldn't find useful and convenient ones among them. Minimal functionality and loss to many free counterparts in almost all respects is the reason for this. Someone will say that there are many well-known and very interesting shells around, but still the phone out of the box is very, very weak in terms of software. I cannot call this something critical, I am sure that there will be supporters of such software, installing a third-party launcher does not take more than 15 minutes, and there are many good free applications on Google Play.
Nice features are the built-in file manager, the Kingston Office suite and all the possible applications from Google, including Chrome, translator, Hangouts.
