How to create a bootable USB drive with macOS High Sierra and install it on Mac. Clean install macOS, or how to reinstall (restore factory settings) Mac Install mac os sierra 10.13

This article will help you install macOS High Sierra 10.13.x operating system on your Mac using the utility macOS High Sierra Patcher.
And first of all, the article will be useful to owners of outdated Mac models, but quite workable today.

Also, owners of Mac models officially supported by the macOS High Sierra operating system may face the fact that the installation of the system imposes a new file system APFS, which may be undesirable for the user for various reasons.
For example, some owners of Mac Pro 5.1 models or Mac Pro 4.1 models installing macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (the latest build) can install the operating system on the Mac OS Extended (journaled) partition and simply not apply Patch.

The article has been translated and adapted into Russian, for those users who find it difficult to read from English.
You can find the original article following the link (opens in a new tab).

Built-in iSight cameras: Currently, built-in iSight cameras do not work correctly on some machines. It will probably work, but be aware that your iSight camera may not work before installing.

Trackpad (MacBook 5.2 only). Trackpad in MacBook5,2 is not fully supported in High Sierra. While it works and is completely usable, High Sierra detects it like a regular mouse, preventing you from changing some of the trackpad-specific settings.

Mac computers that use the Broadcom BCM4321 (BCM94321) WiFi module will not have functional WiFi when High Sierra is launched; these modules are no longer supported in macOS Sierra. This usually applies to computers MacPro3,1, MacBook5,2, MacBookPro4,1, iMac8,1, Macmini3,1 and MacBookAir2,1. Please note that not all of these machines will have an unsupported card, this is just a list of machines known to ship with this card in some configurations.
.

You can find out that you have an unsupported card by opening System Profiler (click on Apple> About this Mac> System Report), and click on Wi-Fi under Network. Note the value specified for the Card Type field.

Below are the IDs of the Wi-Fi modules that do not work in High Sierra:

  • (0x14E4, 0x8C)
  • (0x14E4, 0x9D)
  • (0x14E4, 0x87)
  • (0x14E4, 0x88)
  • (0x14E4, 0x8B)
  • (0x14E4, 0x89)
  • (0x14E4, 0x90)

* Any ID not listed above, such as (0x14E4, 0x8D), is a supported card and will work fine in High Sierra.

Note: Make sure SIP is disabled on your system where you intend to install High Sierra. If this is not the case, or you are not sure, simply boot into the recovery partition of your OS X installation, open a terminal and issue the command "csrutil disable".

What you need:

1. A copy of the Mac OS High Sierra installer.
You can download it from the Mac App Store using a High Sierra-capable computer, or using the built-in download function directly from macOS High Sierra Patcher. Launch macOS High Sierra Patcher and from the menu bar simply select "Tools> Download macOS High Sierra ..." as shown in the image below:

2.USB drive with a size of at least 16 GB

3. Utility macOS High Sierra Patcher
Download the latest version: Link

* You can view the list of changes (in English) and download previous versions of the utility.

High Sierra installation process:

1. Insert your USB stick (remember at least 16 GB), open Disk Utility and format it as OS X Extended (Journaled).

2. Open the previously downloaded "macOS High Sierra Patcher" utility and find your copy of the macOS High Sierra Installer, as a rule, it is customary to download the macOS installer to the Applications folder (Applicatoins).
Do as in the picture below:

A window should appear that the utility has successfully checked the macOS High Sierra Installer application. Click the "OK" button

3. Then select your USB drive from the drop-down list on the right and press the broad "Start Operation" button.
See the picture below:

4. When the installation flash drive is ready, you need to boot from it. To do this, shut down your Mac and turn it back on while holding down the Option (ALT) key and select boot from flash drive.
See the picture below:

Note: follow steps 5 and 6 if you want to do a clean install. If you already have experience installing macOS, you can simply skip these steps and install the High Sierra operating system on that previous version of OS X, after which an in-place upgrade will be performed.

5. After the installer has loaded, open Disk Utility from the utility menu, or double-click it in the utility window in the lower left corner of the screen.
See the picture below:

6. Select the disk or partition on which you want to install macOS High Sierra, and click Erase, then select the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or APFS file system. When formatting an entire drive, make sure the GUID drive layout is selected.

  • Use APFS for 2009 and up models, will work just like macOS High Sierra.
  • It is recommended to use APFS only if you are installing High Sierra on an SSD drive.

If you have a Mac that did not natively support High Sierra (and therefore cannot boot from an APFS volume natively), please note the following:

  • If you are using APFS, you will not have a Recovery HD bootable partition.
  • If you choose to use APFS, the boot loader will be installed by the utility later, as the firmware of these unsupported machines does not support booting from APFS volumes. This is not really a native (native) boot method, but will not cause any problems while High Sierra is running. A demo of the download process can be viewed.

* It should be noted that if for any reason you install the operating system on an officially supported Mac model, then at this stage the installation is complete and you do not need to complete steps 8-11. Just restart your Mac.

8. After the installation is complete, reboot again by holding down the Option (ALT) key and select boot from flash drive again. After downloading, open the "mac OS Post Install" application.
See the picture below:

9. A window will open in which you need to select the model of your Mac in the drop-down list from the top in the "Choose your Mac Model" section. After selecting the Mac model, the optimal checkboxes (ticks) will be marked automatically for your model. You can also check other checkboxes of your choice, but usually this is not required.

10. At the bottom of the Select Volume section, select the volume on which you just installed Mac OS High Sierra from the drop-down list and click "Patch". When the utility installs all the selected patches, click "Restart". The Mac can rebuild the cache for a few minutes before rebooting.

* If for some reason the system does not work correctly after rebooting, boot back into the installation disk, run "mac OS Post Install" again and select "Force Cache Rebuild" before rebooting. In most cases, this is not necessary.

11. After rebooting, your Mac should boot into a fully working macOS High Sierra operating system.

Additional Information:

When installing the Mac OS Post Install tool, High Sierra installs the "Patch Updater" program located in the / Applications / Utilities folder. This program will warn you when new patch updates are available for your machine and prompt you to install them. If you do not have Patch Updater installed, but you want to install it, you can download and install this program, click on the link and after downloading unpack the archive.

Reinstalling patches:

Some of our fixes may be overwritten during macOS High Sierra updates. With the patch updater, you can reinstall these patches with one click. To do this, open the Patch Updater application and select "View Installed Updates", or use the "View> Show Installed Updates" menu in the menu bar.

To re-install one of the patches, simply right-click on it in the list and select "Re-install ...". You can also click the "Re-install All" button to immediately reinstall all installed patches.

Updates:

System updates such as 10.13.1 should be installed normally if the "Software Update Patch" was checked in the Mac OS Post Install tool or you installed it later using the InstallPatchUpdater program. If, for some reason, the updates are not showing or are installing incorrectly, you need to reinstall the software update patch using the Patch Updater application.

Welcome all! Given the excitement around the new operating system freshly presented by Apple, I decided to share how to create a bootable USB flash drive and install the much-coveted novelty. The article will be in two parts. The first - downloading, creating a flash drive - is suitable for both Apple computer owners and Hackintosh users. The second part, the installation of the Clover bootloader and the driver for supporting the file system, is only for hackers, since Apple owners will not have such questions in principle. Let's get started ...

Without going into the jungle, I want to remind you that if you are going to install it for review not on top of a working Mac OS, but on an adjacent disk partition or on top of the main system, then do not be lazy to be able to recover data. ...

Creating a bootable flash drive macOS High Sierra 10.13

Method One: Create a bootable macOS High Sierra USB stick on Mac OS

Download the image from the App Store or search on the Internet, move it to the Apps folder;

We format the flash drive with the disk utility in Mac OS Extended (Journaled);

type the following line in the terminal:
sudo / Applications / Install \\ macOS \\ High \\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia —volume / Volumes / FLASH NAME —nointeraction

This completes the course for Apple users, and continues for Hackintosh users ...

Download and install the latest version Clover developer site;

We configure Clover config.plist, place the kexts required under the hardware configuration. In most cases, a working config from a regular Sierra is fine, but some editing may be required for a specific hardware.

Always use a new version of clover!

Method two: create a High Sierra bootable USB stick using BDU in windows

Run the program as administrator in Windows to avoid possible incidents and failures.

Insert a flash drive of at least 8GB and run the program.

We do the following:

  • 1) Run BootDisk Utility (BDU)
  • 2) Click "DL Center"
  • 3) In the window that opens
    - click "Update"
    - select the axis version in the top drop-down menu and click "OK"
    - Wait for the download to finish and close the window.
  • 4) [menu] options -> Configuration
  • 5) In the Configuration window:
    - mark "DL"
    - click on the "Check Now" button to update the list of Colver versions
    - opposite to "DL" select the version of Clover (the latest)
    - CLOVER must be selected in the "Boot Records" field
    - below in the drop-down menus select "FAT32-LBA", "Default", "4096", respectively.
    - in the "Multi Partitioning" field, check the "Boot Partition Size" checkbox - 200
    - press "ok"
  • 6) In the main BDU window, select the USB flash drive and click the "Format Disk" button and wait for the end (there will be a message window)
  • 7) Expand the USB flash drive and select the second partition (which is unnamed), click the "Restore Partition" button
  • 8) In the window that opens, select the .hfs file (this is the image file that you downloaded in steps 3-5).
  • 9) Another confirmation window - click "ok" and wait for the end, drop the necessary kexts into the Clover -> Kexts folder, correct config.plist if necessary.
  • 10) Press "Eject", pull out the USB flash drive and press "Exit"
  • You can put the axle on the car.

When opening a window OPTIONS we only have a choice of what we don't need to install on a flash drive. You may need to disable the same Clover when you already have a bootloader installed on your hard drive and you only need an OS X installation image, or you just have an original Mac. But for some reason you can't or from a backup.

In order to get the latest version of Clover press the button Check Now,opposite the line Check at Startup.

And we already have the latest version of Clover Boot Loader determined and ready to be installed on a flash drive. By the way, if you only need a flash drive with a bootloader, then at this step you can finish the configuration. Click OK and in the main window click Format Disk and the program will automatically create a partition for Clover and install a bootloader on it. If you also need Mac OS X, let's move on.

Click in the settings ok and in the main window, click DL Center... In this window, we will be presented with the already available update images of OS X operating systems.

HD Recovery for Mac OS X - click Update. We get a list of available recovery images. Select High Sierra from the list, the most recent version available at the time of creation.

If you press DL after selecting the recovery image, then the image will be perfectly written to the flash drive. And after the edits, Clover can be installed on a PC.

Additional Packages - possible help and kexts that may be required when installing the system.

The advantage of this method is to install the latest version of Clover.

High Sierra Installation

It is recommended not to use CloverConfigurator to edit the config
!! FakeSMC.kext et al. To / EFI / EFI / CLOVER / kexts / Other folder and enable InjectKexts = Yes
apfs.efi to / EFI / CLOVER / drivers64 and / EFI / CLOVER / drivers64UEFI folders

Nvidia video graphics

1. Nvidia web-driver
If you need to disable the web-driver in the clover menu, uncheck the NvidiaWeb checkbox.

2. Nvidia 660 and 660ti artifacts, no solution yet.

3. Nvidia Fermi problems.

4. Video cards don't work AMD6xxx and newer requires replacing files 10.13 with files from the previous Sierra 10.12.6.

AMDRadeonX3000.kext
AMDRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle
And their dependencies
IOAccelerator2D.plugin
IOAcceleratorFamily2.kext

Otherwise, the installation will run into a black or white screen. Verde.kext does not work on Radeon 7 ***, it can be solved in the same way ...

For newer cards, respectively X4000 / For new cards, there is a Lilu + WhateverGreen solution, but unfortunately it is not OpenSource, so I have no right to recommend.

5. There is no ignore of the uninstalled built-in IntelHD video - stop. Make an insert or turn it off in the BIOS.

6. IntelHD 4600 (probably many others) periodically artifacts.

Installing from a production system

Be sure to check if your Apple computer meets the requirements before installing. The method is very simple, open Launchpad or Programs and launch the installer, after which the installation window opens. We select the disk partition where we want to install. By default, it is installed on top of a working Mac OS.

I want to note right away that at this stage, updating the file system in APFS will be available only to users using SSD as the selected disk for installing the operating system; when installing on an HDD, this checkbox may be absent. Important! At the moment, APFS is not recognized by any other version of Mac OS, so you cannot edit or see this section from another installed version.

We click to install. Extracting an image to a hidden installation partition of the selected disk partition takes several minutes, after which a reboot is required to continue the installation.

This method is suitable for both Apple computers and hackintoshes, but only if you have Mac OS installed. If installing on Hackintosh, you need to make some changes to the Clover and SMBIOS bootloader files beforehand!

Installing on top or on another disk

Download and run Install macOS High Sierra.appfrom the folder "Programs" axis 10.12
Axis installer 10.13 will create a hidden folder in the root of the 10.12 disk "./IABootFiles".
After rebooting, select a new section in the clover menu "MacOS install"
Unlike the 10.12 axis installation, there will be more reboots during installation.
Only SSD-drive - the axis installer tries to immediately convert or format to AFPS, so that this does not happen, there is a solution that I described below ...

Possible installation problems

1. The panic at 10.13 looks different: the end of the log and the halt are visible - but the reason for the panic is on the previous page. To understand what conflicts add a patch:

2. Many patches (apple, usb3, etc.) that worked at 10.12 and below do not work. Disable patches in config.plist or change patches to new ones.

3. There is no ignore of the unfinished built-in IntelHD video - stop. Make an insert or turn it off in the BIOS.

4. Without the network (LAN) kext, the installation may stop.

5. This message appears most often on configurations with an NVRAM emulator.

Solution: remove EmuVariableUefi from the Drivers64UEFI folder and nvram.plist from EFI for the time of installation / update. And disconnect physically all disks except the one on which the system is installed

6. SSD Only - Axis installer tries to convert or format to AFPS immediately. Despite Apple's announcement, it is still possible to disable the transition to a new file system. To install macOS High Sierra and skip the HFS + to APFS conversion, follow these steps:

Download the High Sierra setup file from the App Store. You will need to download a full-fledged installer to have access to certain folders;

Open "Terminal" and enter the command:

Press Enter and start the macOS High Sierra installation process.

In previous beta versions, you could disable file system conversion right during the installation of the operating system. This option has now been removed.

7. Disk Utility does not see Sata disk- ICH10 (chipsets P45, P55, P58 and even Z68X):
install AppleAHCIPort.kext from beta 10.13

8. DiskUtility does not see SSDs on new controllers;
try like this:

1. Close the remote control.
2. Continue the installation process to the drive selection menu.
3. Then click back and exit the installer.
4. In the menu that appears, open a new remote control.
5. In the upper left corner, select Show All Devices.

Installing and configuring the Clover bootloader

  1. Be sure to download the latest version
  2. Download the patched bootloader files, they will help us avoid problems during the High Sierra installation;
  3. Download the APFS driver, search the Internet, or take it from here.

I will not describe the whole process of installing the bootloader - it is standard in most cases (). Your hardware may differ from what is listed in the article, so make adjustments based on your hardware.

  1. Mount the EFI partition of the flash drive using the EFI Mounter.app utility or the Clover Configurator;
  2. We put all the required kexts in the folder with kexts, including FakeSMC.kext;
  3. We transfer our DSDT and config.plist, in many cases the working config from Sierra also works fine, but perhaps under High Sierra we will have to edit. In any case, check the compliance of the model specified in SMBIOS for compliance with the Apple requirement, if necessary, select a newer model. Not everyone goes through the installation without problems.
  4. We move the files from the downloaded patched files to the same folders as in the archive. That is, we replace Boot in the Boot folder, Clover64 in the Clover folder.
  5. We move the apfs.efi driver to the drivers64UEFI folder, if you test and install the system on APFS. Without this driver, the boot partition on APFS will not appear in the CLOVER menu.
  6. Reboot, select the installer from the Clover menu, cross your fingers and follow the installer's instructions.

According to hackers, there are no problems with installing on relatively new hardware, but there are exceptions. There are crashes of programs and applications, but for review it is fine. Still, it should be borne in mind that 10.13 was not long ago presented by Apple and the community simply did not physically have time to finalize the bootloader, which I really hope for in the future.

Personally, I tried to put on me no impression made. It was not possible to start the schedule normally, and I did not bother much about this. At the moment, the installed Sierra 10.12.6 works no worse, but at the same time it is very stable and fast. And many of High Sierra's innovations are so specific that I will hardly ever use them. But this is purely my point of view at the moment, which may change in the future.

Fair, not overpriced or understated. There should be prices on the Service website. Necessarily! without "asterisks", it is clear and detailed, where it is technically possible - the most accurate, final.

If spare parts are available, up to 85% of complex repairs can be completed in 1-2 days. Modular repairs take much less time. The website lists the approximate duration of any repair.

Warranty and liability

Any repairs must be guaranteed. Everything is described on the site and in the documents. The guarantee is self-confidence and respect for you. A 3-6 month warranty is good and sufficient. It is needed to check quality and hidden defects that cannot be detected immediately. You see honest and realistic terms (not 3 years), you can be sure that they will help you.

Half of the success in Apple repair is the quality and reliability of spare parts, so a good service works with suppliers directly, there are always several reliable channels and your own warehouse with proven spare parts for current models so that you do not have to waste time.

Free diagnostics

This is very important and has already become a good form for the service center. Diagnostics is the most difficult and important part of the repair, but you shouldn't pay a dime for it, even if you don't repair the device as a result.

Service repair and delivery

A good service values your time and therefore offers free shipping. And for the same reason, repairs are carried out only in the workshop of the service center: correctly and according to technology, it can only be done at a prepared place.

Convenient schedule

If the Service works for you, and not for itself, then it is always open! absolutely. The schedule should be convenient so that you can be in time before and after work. Good service works both on weekends and on holidays. We are waiting for you and working on your devices every day: 9:00 - 21:00

The reputation of professionals consists of several points

Age and experience of the company

Reliable and experienced service has been known for a long time.
If a company has been on the market for many years and it has managed to establish itself as an expert, people turn to it, write about it, and recommend it. We know what we are talking about, since 98% of incoming devices in the SC are being restored.
Other service centers trust us and transfer complex cases.

How many masters in directions

If you are always waiting for several engineers for each type of equipment, you can be sure:
1. there will be no queue (or it will be minimal) - your device will be taken over immediately.
2. You are handing over your Macbook to a Mac repair expert. He knows all the secrets of these devices

Technical literacy

If you ask a question, a specialist must answer it as accurately as possible.
So that you have an idea of what exactly you need.
They will try to solve the problem. In most cases, the description tells you what happened and how to fix the problem.

New technologies used in the operating system make Macs more reliable, functional and faster. It is now ready for future innovations. In addition, macOS High Sierra enhances the features and apps you use every day. macOS has taken on new heights.

Move mountains with new technologies.
The new core technologies in macOS High Sierra have improved core Mac functionality. Today's Mac is a new storage architecture, improved video viewing, full access to powerful GPU resources. And not only.

Apple file system. New top management of data.
Documents. Photos. Mail. Applications. Anything that matters to you is treated as data by the Mac. And the file system is responsible for organizing that data into files and folders and giving you access to them. Our previous file system was designed for early Macs and did a great job. But the modern Mac is all about flash storage, and this opens up a lot of room for innovation. So the time has come to lay the foundation for the future. With macOS High Sierra, we're bringing Apple's file system to the Mac for the first time, with an enhanced architecture that brings new levels of security and speed.

HEVC. New video standard.
In response to the growing popularity of 4K video, the Mac meets the new HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) standard, also known as H.265.1. It is capable of compressing video up to 40% more than the current H.264 standard. Therefore, HEVC video files are transferred faster and take up less space without sacrificing quality.

Metal 2. New graphics rules.
The GPU is more important than ever to running efficiently on Mac. And GPUs are becoming more and more powerful. Metal technology built into macOS allows applications to maximize the graphics potential of your computer. Its new version Metal 2 brings not only a new level of image quality, but also the ability to machine learning, support for virtual reality and external GPUs in entertainment and professional applications. With Metal 2, you can use your imagination to its fullest - whether you're playing games, creating content, or developing software.

Which, according to Cupertino, thanks to new technologies, makes Mac computers more reliable, functional and faster. A little later, the first beta version of macOS High Sierra was released, and today we will tell you how to create a bootable USB disk yourself to install this operating system on your Mac.

To do a so-called "clean" installation, you first need to create a bootable disk, which can be used as a USB drive. This will allow you to install macOS High Sierra on multiple computers. In addition, you must have access to the new desktop operating system image. If you don't have a paid developer account, you can wait until the public beta version of macOS High Sierra becomes available or download its image from third-party resources.

Read the instructions to the very end before starting the process of creating a USB disk with macOS High Sierra and then installing it.

Requirements:

1. Computer * running OS X 10.7 Lion or higher.
2. The macOS High Sierra installer distribution downloaded to your computer.
3. USB-disk with a capacity of at least 8 GB.

* Your computer must be compatible with macOS High Sierra - Mac Compatibility List.

How to create a bootable USB drive with macOS High Sierra

1. Download the macOS High Sierra installer. By default, the distribution is named Install macOS 10.13 Beta. You can rename it, but in order not to get confused, we recommend leaving this name. Make sure the Install macOS 10.13 Beta file is located in the Applications folder (where all programs from the Mac App Store are downloaded). If it's in a different location on your computer, move it to that folder.

2. Connect the USB drive to your Mac. If not already formatted, run the Disk Utility application ( "Programs" → "Utilities" → "Disk Utility") and format it with GUID Partition Scheme and Mac OS Extended (Journaled). This process will erase all data from the USB drive.

3. You can choose any convenient name for the name of the USB disk, for example, "USB". Make sure that no other drives with the same name are connected to your computer.

4. Start the "Terminal" ( "Programs" → "Utilities" → "Terminal") and enter the following command * :

sudo / Applications / Install \\ macOS \\ 10.13 \\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume / Volumes / USB --applicationpath / Applications / Install \\ macOS \\ 10.13 \\ Beta.app --nointeraction

Then press Enter to move Install macOS 10.13 Beta to your USB drive and make it bootable.

* If you've renamed the macOS High Sierra installer distribution or USB drive, edit the command to include your names. If the macOS High Sierra installer was not in the Applications folder, edit the command to show its current location.

5. Enter the password (it is not displayed on the screen) and press the Enter key.
