Neodymium magnet in speakers. Speakers for professional use. Acoustics Hannibal with neodymium magnet

If you need speakers for professional use, it will be useful to know what to focus on when choosing. To do this, you need to delve into the design features of the models available on the market.

They will be discussed below. The main thing to focus on when choosing a speaker is its size. The nominal diameters of the heads installed in professional loudspeakers are 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 18 inches. Less commonly used are 5, 21 and 24-inch speakers. Depending on the diameter, the head will have a certain set of characteristics:

  • 6 inches. The small diameter does not allow achieving the pressure required for sufficiently high-quality sound extraction in the low-frequency spectrum. But such heads have a wide directivity pattern in a wide frequency range. That is why they are used to reproduce medium frequencies up to 5-6 kHz. The largest magnet that can be mounted on a 6-inch speaker will be 134mm in diameter. As for the coil, it shouldn't be more than 2 inches in diameter. On average, the power of such speakers is in the range of 80-150 watts. Top models boast 250 watts. The sensitivity of 6-inch heads ranges from 94 to 98 dB.
  • 8 inches. The relatively small size allows you to achieve the same beamwidth as 6-inch heads, while the low frequencies are extracted much better. The maximum magnet size for 8 "is 156mm and the coil is 2.5". The power limit and sensitivity are 250 W and 94-98 dB, respectively.
  • 10 inches. These heads are great for 2-way systems reproducing speech programs. Combining such a system with another one - a low-frequency one - allows you to get a full-range system of acceptable quality. The main strength of 10-inch heads lies in the extraction of frequencies in the middle part of the spectrum. There are also low-frequency models, but they are used extremely rarely - due to their low sensitivity. 10 "speakers are compatible with magnets up to 220mm and coils up to 4" in diameter. The maximum power does not exceed 350 W. For correct operation, a body with a volume of about 30 liters is required.
  • 12 inch. The best heads for small systems. Low and mid frequencies up to 3 kHz sound good on them. In this case, you can choose both a low frequency model and a midrange or broadband. The speaker diameter allows a small subwoofer to be mounted on it. True, you first need to correctly calculate the case and select a suitable emitter. 12-inch drivers are commonly found in midrange horns. The maximum power of these heads is 500 W. The volume of the body is from 50 to 70 liters.
  • 15 inches. The most requested size on the market. These speakers are used in two- and three-way systems as well as woofers. 15-inch heads are appreciated for their high pressure across the entire frequency spectrum with a relatively small body size. The power reaches 800 watts. The volume of the body is on average 90-120 liters.
  • 18 inches. These heads are needed to extract low frequencies. They are used in horns, direct radiation systems, as well as in bandpasses. The power can reach an impressive 1000 watts. Another key parameter to look for when choosing speakers is the size of the magnet. It directly affects the amount of induction in the gap, and hence the sensitivity of the speaker. Another influence of the size of the magnet is indirect, on the diameter of the voice coil, on which the power of the speaker itself depends. Thus, knowing the dimensions of the ferrite magnet, you can determine the speaker power:

Magnet diameter Power

  • 220 mm 400-700 W
  • 184 mm 250-400 W
  • 156 mm 150-250 W
  • 134 mm 100-200 W

Another important parameter is the voice coil winding height. On woofers, it is at least 16 mm. This increases the heat radiation area and the speaker is able to withstand higher long-term power. In addition, the allowable displacement of the diffuser increases. On the negative side: the mobile system weighs more, the quality of extracting frequencies of the middle and upper part of the spectrum decreases, and the overall sensitivity also deteriorates. The height of the coils for full-range speakers is in the range of 12-16 mm. If the value of the permissible displacement (Xmax) is not specified by the manufacturer, then it can be determined by the thickness of the flange of the magnetic system adjacent to the frame. Xmax is comparable to flange dimensions. You also need to pay attention to the winding material. The quality of the midrange extraction depends on it. For example, aluminum wire enhances recoil, while a copper coil enhances bass response. Until now, speaking of magnets, we have been talking about ferrite products. But now there is an alternative - neodymium magnets. They are distinguished by smaller dimensions and weight, while having the same induction as larger ferrite analogs.

Sounds great, but neodymium magnets have three drawbacks:

  • high price;
  • the inability to re-magnetize the product;
  • instability to overheating and the risk of demagnetization.

To solve the problem with overheating, radiators have to be installed on the magnetic circuits, which perform the function of removing heat. One final tip: don't try to save money on your speaker system if you really want high-quality professional sound. A good product, even if it is made in Russia, cannot be cheap by definition, and buying an inexpensive fake will only bring an extra headache.

Everything I know, I learned on my own. I read, observed, tried, experimented, made mistakes, reworked again. Nobody taught me. At that time, there were no special educational institutions in Lithuania that would teach how to work with lighting equipment. In general, I believe that you cannot learn this. To become a lighting designer, you need to have something like that “inside” from the very beginning. You can learn how to work with the remote control, programming, you can learn all the technical characteristics, but you cannot learn how to create.

The new active room design possibilities should not be confused with the "sustained reverb" used since the 1950's at the Royal Festival Hall and later at Limehouse Studios. These were systems that used tunable resonators and multichannel amplifiers to distribute natural resonances to the desired part of the room.

their results are below. Participants of the Show Technology Distributors Club actively discussed this topic.
We offered to answer several questions to specialists who have been in our business for more than one year,
and their opinion will certainly be interesting to our readers.

Andrey Shilov: “Speaking at the 12th winter conference of rental companies in Samara, in my report I shared with the audience a problem that worries me greatly for the last 3-4 years. My empirical research on the rental market led to disappointing conclusions about a catastrophic decline in labor productivity in this industry And in my report, I drew the attention of business owners to this problem as the most important threat to their business. My theses caused a lot of questions and a lengthy discussion on forums in social networks. "

Alphard acoustics

Alphard acoustics will allow you to create a modern comfort in the car, since the best speakers for maintaining a good mood during long journeys have not yet been invented. The Alphard speakers are really good loudspeakers for this task. In this article, we will consider the capabilities of this speaker system with a neodymium magnet in detail.

Acoustics marked by the queen of England

In 2001, Alpard acoustics was released for the first time. And it won its place in the world of Russian car audio, as it was specially presented in our country. True, this happened 5 years after its release.

Due to the high quality and purity of sound, a relatively young company, which could easily sink into oblivion due to strong competitors, has become popular. The main direction of the acoustic brand is the production of inexpensive acoustics, which many experts call the secret and Alpard's trick.

Note. It was the course towards the budget market that became the joker up its sleeve for the young company, which it skillfully uses in the fight against powerful players. At a time when strong brands are promoting their products, which have won the sympathy of buyers, because of which they rise in price, the task of young companies is not to miss their chance.

True, the main production facilities of Alpard are located in China, but this in no way diminishes the merits. Today, many have already ceased to treat this issue with an erroneous bias. If earlier it was believed that everything produced in the Celestial Empire is nonsense and fake, today the statement is refuted by reliable facts to the contrary.

Note. And for this reason, many large manufacturers are transferring part of their capacities to China, where at the same time it is more convenient to promote their products on the Asian market.

The fact that the company was honored by the Queen of England herself is already a fat plus. Honor implies a kind of registration plate that classifies the acoustics as a premium class. And at the same time, all products under this license plate receive permission and certification in accordance with all international quality standards.

Alpard produces columns of 2 types. Like many other acoustic brands, Alphard manufactures component and coaxial technology (see). The first is a set of speakers: woofer, tweeter and, in some cases, a separate frequency divider. It is clear that the price for such acoustics is higher than for coaxial ones, but it is worth it.

Note. It is quite simple to explain the relative high cost of Alpard component acoustics. Here, higher technical indicators are used, which is easy to verify from the data given in the tables below. But, on the other hand, it is much more difficult to install such acoustics with your own hands. And to the high cost of the product itself, you have to add the price of the services of a qualified specialist.

Hannibal coaxials (this is the name of one of the popular series) are presented in the form of separate acoustic heads, which have found a place on a single speaker. As a rule, this is one LF emitter and several HF.

We repeat that such acoustics are several times cheaper than component ones (see), but it gives a chance to acquire a high-quality speaker, noticed by the royal court itself, if there is not enough budget for an expensive one. In principle, only an ardent fan of music can distinguish the sound quality of coaxials from the speakers of component speakers. To the average mortal, the level of reproduction will seem the same, which is easy to explain.

The Alphard pays more attention to sound quality than other parameters. Engineers are constantly coming up with new schemes for producing high-grade sound while reducing production costs.

After listening to music from the Alpard speakers, you understand what their advantages are and why they are so much praised. Not a single listened melody, included in a collection of various musical genres, left a tiring aftertaste and irritation. The Alphard loudspeakers emit a charge of positive, giving true delight to connoisseurs of sound.

Here are some more advantages of this manufacturer's acoustics:

  • Well thought out for Hannibal acoustics is also the possibility of self-installation. While some speaker models produced by large brands are lame in terms of ease of setup and installation, requiring specific knowledge, Alpard acoustics are easy to put into the salon.

Note. As a rule, doors or a rear shelf are used for this. Accordingly, the Alphard speakers are dimensioned correctly and their installation depth fits modern cars perfectly.

  • Alphard models are always aesthetic. The manufacturer understands that a considerable share of the attractiveness of the product for the end consumer lies not only in technical capabilities, but also in appearance. Acoustics should not spoil the salon interior and, even more, be made in such a way as to harmonize perfectly with the car interior;
  • The dimensions of the individual acoustic models Hannibal are made according to consumer preference. Because of this, 10- and 12-inch speakers are mostly found, but 8- and 15-inch speakers are also produced.

Note. The latter always require more space for installation. For this reason, 15-inch speakers are not as popular as the rest, but are intended to satisfy the tastes of amateurs. On the contrary, the 10- and 12-inch counterparts are most in demand, since, having a sufficient power reserve, they do not take up much space. "Eight" cars are even smaller, but they can no longer provide high sound power, although they are quite suitable for a car interior.

  • Many users praise the subwoofers of this company (see). Indeed, made mostly in FI as a separate speaker in a box or presented as additional speakers, the Alphard subwoofer allows you to get surround sound in the cabin.

Note. It is up to the user to decide which sub is more to his liking. Some connoisseurs are even ready to assemble the system themselves. And for them, the manufacturer has just provided special kits.

Acoustics Hannibal with neodymium magnet

“The world has been told so many times that there is no better neodymium” - can be heard today, walking through the offices of an institute dealing with advanced technologies. Those who have dealt with such loudspeakers know that with a low weight, neodymium magnets, or NMs, guarantee the same efficiency. But there are certain rules without which NMs cannot give the desired effect.

In particular, this applies to the following:

  • NM must be combined with plastic;
  • Easy to integrate with UPS;
  • Do not “faint” from mutual work with a D-class amplifier.

If the manufacturer manages to provide all these three points, the end user gets a "baby" with a powerful charge of positive to his car salon. The speaker is easy to transport and install.

On the other hand, using neodymium speakers, you cannot avoid the typical pitfalls:

  • A pure neodymium magnet is very expensive. Unfortunately, many unscrupulous firms deceive customers by covering up cheap materials with expensive names. Everything is clean at Alphard, therefore the price for acoustics with NM is high;

Note. In some cases, NM are obtained in a mixture with other rare metals.

  • NM are afraid of corrosion and low temperatures, while their counterparts - ferrite magnets, are completely immune to this.

Note. NM must always be made with a protective coating, otherwise they will easily oxidize. If the air around them is constantly humid, they will easily turn into dust.

  • Electroplating (coating) is also used to protect NM. But in times of crisis, they often save on the thickness of this very coating, which adversely affects NM. A thin layer of electroplating is easy to damage, and this starts through corrosion of the magnet;
  • NM are very tender and, in comparison with ferrite ones, seem to be a fragile egg. They not only do not tolerate cold, but also deteriorate from extreme heat. If you operate columns with such a magnet in conditions where temperature drops are observed, they will not withstand for a long time.

Speakers with HM Alphard are shown below. Having received sufficient information about the advantages and disadvantages of such magnets, it will be easier for a motorist to make a choice in favor of a purchase decision.

You can learn more about Alpard acoustics from video and photo materials. As for self-installation of acoustics, a lot of useful instructions posted on the site will help you do this.
