Nokia lumiya 1320 specifications. What do you like? Strengths, dignity

As for the sound reproduction quality, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the RMAA tests.

Interpenetration of channels, dB -87.1 Excellent
Intermodulation at 10 kHz,% 0.033 Okay
Overall score Okay

With good headphones, the sound quality is likely to satisfy most users.

However, it should be noted that the main speaker produces a very mediocre sound at medium volume and starts ringing at maximum. You can watch a movie without headphones, but you shouldn't expect high-quality sound of music.

Wireless interfaces and communication

In the conditions of Moscow and the Moscow region, the connection keeps a confident signal, there were no failures. However, in some places, where most other smartphones lost their network, the signal also disappeared on this device. As a result, the connection quality can be called good, but it still falls short of excellent.

The following communication frequencies are supported: GSM 850; GSM 900; GSM 1800; GSM 1900; W-CDMA 850; W-CDMA 900; W-CDMA 2100; LTE BC3; LTE BC7; LTE BC20.

The WiFi antenna rouses no complaints, the reception is good, the connection is fast. During testing, no problems arose.

We should also highlight the work of navigation. The GPS antenna performs its function without any complaints. A cold start along with downloading the program takes literally 10-15 seconds! Positioning accuracy is also at altitude - every step is determined when the map is close enough.

Excellent work of GPS, coupled with proprietary Nokia software consisting of three programs, turns the smartphone into a full-fledged navigator.

Navigation

Nokia has developed and is actively promoting a set of three navigation programs. A special department is engaged in drawing up maps and software in the company and it does not work in vain.

The main program Here Maps allows you to open online or download a map of any country in the world to your smartphone. Here you can get directions for driving by car, on foot or by public transport. The maps are detailed and accurate and work very quickly. The map packs downloaded here are also used in two other programs of the Here package.

Here Drive + application has been developed especially for motorists. Here you will find a full-fledged navigator with voice prompts and 3D mode. The choice of the route takes into account traffic jams.

If you travel by public transport, you should pay attention to Here Transit. It is enough to enter only the start and end point. Several route options will be offered right away, after choosing a suitable one, you will see detailed explanations, you can also use the map if you need to navigate in unfamiliar terrain.

The connection quality is not satisfactory. And the work of navigation, together with the proprietary software, can be safely added to the advantages of this model.

Memory

With the new update, the file manager mentioned above appeared in the available programs. It works quickly, has all the necessary functions.

The device has 1 GB of RAM on board, this volume is enough for all tasks with a margin.

The main memory is only 8 GB, almost 2 GB is occupied by the operating system, as a result, the user has only about 5 GB available. This is very little, only the use of a memory card will save, since it supports volumes up to 64 GB.

However, there were some unpleasant surprises. For example, with about two gigabytes of free memory in a smartphone, an attempt to install a game with a volume of just over 900 MB led to a notification about insufficient memory. It was not possible to establish the cause, only the memory card and the installation of the game on it helped.

If you plan to have at least a couple of "heavy" games in your arsenal, listen to music and even occasionally use the camera, think about expanding the memory capacity in advance. By the way, the device supports hot swapping of cards and detects them very quickly.

A gigabyte of RAM is enough for any everyday tasks, but serious problems can arise with the amount of built-in memory. If you are not a fan of using memory cards, but love taking pictures or playing modern games, this model is unlikely to suit you.

Battery life

With a fairly average screen resolution, this device is equipped with a 3400 mAh battery, which is a record for this line. Coupled with a very economical operating system, the device is able to hold out in mixed mode for several days, while the user does not have to think about saving energy.

The smartphone was tested for autonomy in various modes of operation, the final results are presented in the table.

Brightness
screen
Reading mode Browsing (Wi-Fi) Games
0% ~ 16 hours ~ 14 hours ~ 10 hours
50% ~ 15 hours ~ 13 hours ~ 8 hours
100% ~ 13 hours ~ 11 hours ~ 6 hours

From personal experience, in standby mode with WiFi turned on, without a power saving mode, I use the device exclusively for calls and surfing the Internet via WiFi, I didn't have to remember charging for three days.

The result is quite good. Even among smartphones on this platform, which are famous for their autonomy, this model looks the most advantageous.

Camera

The device has two cameras: a front one with a ridiculous resolution of 0.3 Mpix by modern standards and a main one with 5 Mpix.

The front camera is suitable only for video calls, and not too demanding users. The shooting quality is comparable to the front camera of the Sony Ericsson W995 phone. The resolution of the pictures is 640 x 480 pixels.

The main module is capable of taking good pictures only under ideal conditions. In other cases, noises constantly appear, there is no need to talk about any detail. The maximum shooting resolution is 2592 x 1456.

As a positive point, it is worth noting a good shooting speed, cars passing by in the pictures look relatively clear.

There is a proprietary application Nokia Camera. Perhaps an experienced user can make better shots.

Video is shot in 720p with mediocre quality, especially at dusk.

Comparison with competitors

It is very difficult to find a competitor for this device, since there are only two "tablet phones" on Windows Phone 8. The second (Nokia Lumia 1520) is better in all respects, but it also costs twice as much.

When choosing opponents, we decided to build on the screen diagonal and price, while the operating system will not be taken into account in the comparison. The characteristics of the selected smartphones are shown in the table below.

The older solution presented by Nokia Lumia 1520 is almost twice as expensive. But the parameters are much more interesting: Full HD screen, Snapdragon 800 and 20 Mpix camera. This is truly a flagship.

There is not much choice here. If you want to save money, go for the Lumia 1320, or if you're willing to pay more for better performance, go for the Lumia 1520.

A competitor from the Middle Kingdom, Huawei Ascend Mate, received a slightly larger display diagonal at a similar resolution. The user has access to more advanced cameras, more RAM, and a more capacious battery with less weight. However, it should be noted that this device does not support new generation 4G networks.

You can pay attention to the model of the Korean giant - Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 GT-I9152. It has a smaller diagonal and display resolution, half more RAM, better cameras and support for two SIM cards. This device is the lightest among the compared ones, in many respects it was achieved due to the reduction of the battery capacity - it is much less than that of the Nokia battery. Again, we find no support for LTE networks.

Unlike the screen with Full HD-resolution of the latter, the novelty in question received a screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, while maintaining the diagonal size and type of matrix, 6-inches and IPS, respectively. The hardware platform is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 single-chip system, the battery capacity is 3400 mAh. The smartphone is running the Windows Phone 8.0 operating system.

Equipment

The smartphone is shipped in a blue cardboard box with four colors of the device body. Inside the box, in addition to the smartphone, there are: a 1.5 A power supply adapter, a USB cable, a paper manual and a headset (without a call answering key).

Design and ergonomics

The design of the novelty differs from the recently reviewed 6-inch smartphone from the same manufacturer. Round corners, rounded back - the eye simply has nothing to catch on. The dimensions of Nokia Lumia 1320 are much larger than the same form factor. The only smartphone that "bypasses" the Lumia 1320 is, but its dimensions are justified by the presence of stereo speakers above and below the screen, and a stylus. Unreasonably high and weight, 220 grams. Despite this, there are hardly any users for whom when choosing a phabletthese millimeters and grams will play a decisive role.

The front part of the case is covered with a tempered glass Gorilla Glass 3. The plastic frame around the glass barely rises above it. On the one hand, it should protect the glass from scratches, if you are used to putting your smartphone on the table with the screen down, on the other hand, it is so small that you shouldn't rely on it. At the top there is a slot for the earpiece, logo, proximity sensor, light sensor and front camera. At the bottom end there are three hardware touch keys: "Back" (when held down, calls up a list of recently launched applications), "Home" and "Search". The keys are devoid of backlighting, but due to the large sensitivity zone, the user does not need to get on the icon itself, it is enough to touch the key area and the smartphone will react. If you look closely, at the junction of plastic and glass, between the "Back" and "Home" keys, you can see the opening of the spoken microphone.

The left side panel is traditionally devoid of any elements. On the right are the ceramic keys for volume, power / lock and camera. Due to the sharp edges, they are easily groped blindly. The keys have a short taut travel with a characteristic click when activated. The camera key is two-position and allows you to start the camera even from a locked state. The headphone jack is located on the top, and the USB cable connector is on the bottom.

The back is made of rough plastic. Fingerprints appear here more readily than on glass. At the top you can find an LED flash, a little lower - a 5 megapixel camera lens, in the center - a logo, at the bottom - a small hole for a multimedia speaker on the sides of which there are protrusions. The latter do not allow drowning out the sound of the speaker when the smartphone is lying on a flat surface.

To get to the slot for the SIM card and / or memory card, you need to remove the back cover. To do this, you need to pry it off at the left or right corner of the bottom end. The card slots are located on the right side. Access to the battery is blocked by another plastic panel, which requires a special tool to remove.

The build quality is at a good level, the casing does not creak, the details do not play, the only problem (the same was observed in Nokia Lumia 1520) is the appearance of streaks on the screen even with an average pressure on the glass. As for the control of a smartphone (phablet) with one hand, then with such dimensions and weight, this is simply impossible.

Operating system and shell

The smartphone runs on Windows Phone 8.0. With the exception of the navigation application, the capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 1320 are exactly the same as the Nokia Lumia 1520. The differences in the navigation applications are that the HERE Drive application is installed in the device in question, while the Nokia Lumia 1520 has HERE Drive +. The difference between the apps comes down to having turn-by-turn car navigation for one region (HERE Drive) and nearly hundreds of regions, respectively. If necessary, if you are traveling and you need maps of several regions, you can use the HERE Maps, HERE Transit or HERE Lens applications for orientation on the terrain.

Hardware platform

Unlike the flagship, Nokia Lumia 1320 received a more modest hardware platform from Qualcomm - a single-chip system Snapdragon 400. It includes two Krait 300 processor cores with a frequency of 1.7 GHz and an Adreno 305 graphics core. The amount of RAM is 1 GB, the amount of permanent memory 8 GB.

This hardware platform has established itself as an excellent solution for devices that do not need maximum performance, while allowing you to run almost the same applications as on more advanced models. Moreover, it has excellent energy efficiency, which, together with a 3400 mAh battery, gives simply excellent autonomy results. You can evaluate the performance of your smartphone by the screenshots below.

Traditionally for Nokia smartphones, both speakers of the device have a good headroom. The headphone sound is noticeably better than the average Android smartphone. There were no complaints about the quality of speech transmission. Vibrating alert is weak in strength.

Satellite search speeds can be the envy of most smartphones. According to this parameter, it can be compared with models based on the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 800.

In addition to the smooth operation, WP wins over Android in power consumption. This smartphone is no exception. In standby mode, it does not consume energy, the smartphone does not discharge at night. During a day of inactive use, the battery is discharged by 10%, the result is without using the power saving mode. The average user can expect the Nokia Lumia 1320 to run for two days. The new product showed excellent results in two-hour tests. For example, reading with the Tucan Reader app drained the battery 3%. Given the incredible results, we ran this test several times. The largest result was 7% in two hours, while in nine hours the smartphone was discharged by 50%. The smartphone showed no less impressive results in other tests. You can get acquainted with them from the comparative table.

For listening music a standard player was used, the volume was 24 out of 30 possible, MP3 files with a bitrate of 320 Kbps. In mode reading (Tucan Reader) all wireless communications are turned off, including mobile data, and the display brightness is set to medium. Navigation includes routing in the HERE Drive app (in Nokia Lumia 1520 - HERE Drive +)... The brightness is set to medium, all communication modules are disabled. During playback video the brightness of the display is set to the middle value, the volume of the sound in the headphones is at level 24 out of a possible 30. Youtube (MetroTube) display brightness set to medium, headphone volume at 24 out of 30 possible levels.

Display

Nokia Lumia 1320 received a 6-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and ClearBlack technology. Due to the absence of an air gap between the matrix and the glass, the display has wide viewing angles and does not fade in direct sunlight. Display brightness is adjustable from 83 cd / m² to 422 cd / m² in manual setting and from 13.9 cd / m² to an incredible 619 cd / m² in automatic setting with Bright Light off and on, respectively. As in the Nokia Lumia 1520, the user can change the color saturation and color temperature at his own discretion.

Subjectively if permission is not taken into accountThe Nokia Lumia 1320 has one of the best displays in its class. In addition, in the menu, you can enable high sensitivity of the sensor, which will allow you to operate the device with gloves.

Camera

The smartphone has two cameras, the main one is 5 megapixels with the ability to record Full HD video and the front one is 0.3 megapixels. The aperture value of the main camera is f / 2.4, the front camera is f / 2.8. The modest resolution of the cameras is partially offset by their relatively good quality. The speed of the cameras - launch and focus, high. Below you can evaluate the quality of pictures and videos taken with the main camera.

Today's review will focus on the mid-range flagship - Nokia 1320... I would never have thought that I would call the "average" phone, which the company does not focus on "the flagship of the price category." Nevertheless, it is so. Here is a smartphone on the updated Windows 8 Black, with a display diagonal of 6 inches.
Not only the price, but also the characteristics, which we will talk about below, does not allow calling this smartphone a budget one.

Design

Lumia 1320 is unlikely to surprise anyone with its appearance. Before you are all the same interchangeable polycarbonate cases, made in bright colors: bright yellow, moderate orange and, especially for conservatives, black and white. We got to the test, as you can see - white. Of course, the decision to photograph a white device on a white table is doubtful, so I urgently had to look for other surfaces.

It should be noted that orange is not glossy, but matte, however, like all other colors, which in fact makes the smartphone more pleasant not only visually, but also to the touch.

Above the body is a headphone or headset jack, on the right - the volume switch, "cameras" and the lock button. Below is a connector for a microUSB cable.

After looking at other reviews, I noticed that the authors write about "false triggering" of the camera button, but all this is complete nonsense and nonsense - the button is two-position and works when pressed only halfway, but does not start the camera, as other reviewers "shout" about it.

Below, on the display, there are Windows Phone touch-sensitive control keys, which have a soft white backlight, on top - a VGA camera peephole and a light sensor. There is a 5MP camera on the back of the smartphone.

The panels, as mentioned earlier, are removable, but the 3400 mAh battery is not. Under the cover of the smartphone there are also slots for a memory card and a microSIM card.

Taking into account the capacity of the battery and the diagonal of the screen, it should not be surprising that the smartphone cannot be called light - 220 grams. With a width of 85 mm, it is just as inconvenient to hold in the hand, but due to the rounded corners (as in some early models), this defect is slightly smoothed out.

For those who hate polycarbonate panels, I want to note that the smartphone does not creak or crunch when pressed, not even when twisted. This is a clear plus.

Screen

The resolution of the smartphone with the largest diagonal in the lineup is not impressive - 1280x720. You won't see FullHD resolution here, but the brightness and contrast are high and the viewing angles are maximum.

I would like to note that lately Nokia has not been stingy with smartphone screens of any price category. Lumia 1320 not only supports work with gloves, but also has a polarizing layer, thanks to which the picture on the screen is perfectly visible even in bright sunlight.

If you are not satisfied with the contrast of the warm colors of the tiles on your desktop, you can change this in the settings. And not only the color temperature, but also the high sensitivity of the screen. To avoid ridiculous and annoying sets of messages or calls "from your pocket with keys".

Camera

Lumia 1320 is equipped with rather weak cameras: the front one is 0.3MP and the main one is 5MP, which is probably due to the fact that the average user and the "average" phone do not need more.
There are settings for color rendition and white balance. In addition, there is the Nokia Camera application, which combines Nokia Smart Camera and Pro Cam, with which it is much easier to build settings.

As it should be for a 5MP camera, shots taken indoors and at night are grainy (see first shot). In daylight, the pictures are great, but not clear enough.
To take an acceptable selfie, you need very good lighting.

Video is recorded in FullHD format.
Feels like the flash does not work very adequately, sometimes overexposing the pictures. Here's an example of a photo taken during the day. Why there is a "cold" flash is completely incomprehensible:

Neither the charging nor the headphones made any impression - they saw charging from Nokia and more interesting (the same N9 for example), and dirt constantly sticks to the headphones.

Battery

The Lumia 1320 uses a legacy chipset, 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM.

My smartphone worked pretty average. There were no serious "brakes", but still, when opening the camera or multimedia, there were hitch, which could not cause pleasure, but were not critical either.

The operating time of the smartphone was a pleasant surprise. It lasted two and a half days without recharging, taking into account the use of an MP3 player, twitter and navigation (more on that later). This is surprising for a device with a 6-inch screen.

Lumia black

Even after the update, everything works a little slow. Saying a little, I mean exactly this - it doesn't seem to lag, but the delay is felt. But it doesn't seem to bother.

Frankly speaking, I would call the interface boring. Whatever one may say, how many icons do not place on the main desktop (and now there are much more of them on a 6-inch screen), no matter how much you change their color or the desktop background, it does not become more interesting.
I was hit especially hard when I was forced to make covers for our Windows Phone digests. You have not yet seen the cover of the daily, but you have already encountered the weekly from Taras. Probably the best solution was to write "Digest" on a black background.

Turning on your smartphone, you will find the good old pre-installed proprietary applications from Nokia.

Summarize

If you need a smartphone with a huge screen, Android does not suit you, and the camera does not really matter - then this is the best and most budget option for you.

Windows 8 Lumia Black unpretentious, but still pleasing to the eye. The battery life should please a lot, so the battery does really well.
Nice design and good battery make up for the heavy weight if you really like smartphones this big.

pros

  • decent 6-inch screen with Gorilla Glass 3
  • pleasant sound
  • battery 3400 mAh, operating time without recharging
Minuses
  • uncomfortable to hold in hand, heavy
  • cameras in 0.3MP and 5MP
  • weak vibration

Nokia Lumia 1320 - I love my shovel

31.01.2015

One day the moment came when I wanted to try a device with a huge screen. I used the tablet for a while and realized that it was not mine. I just wanted a huge smartphone, which is usually called a phablet or, simply put, a shovel, and I also really wanted to understand whether it is convenient to use such a whopper. Once I watched as one lady, holding a child in one hand, with the other hand pulled a huge Samsung out of the pocket of her raincoat and at the same time did not experience any difficulties or discomfort. I remember thinking then that since a woman is so easily manipulated with a huge device, then, apparently, the "shovelphones" are not so inconvenient, as rumor says about them. As they say, you can only test your inventions by experience, so I began to look for a device suitable for myself in terms of price and size.

In order not to beat around the bush, I'll say right away: out of the three contenders, the choice fell on the Nokia Lumia 1320. The other two are Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Nokia Lumia 1520. Of course, there are many more smartphones with large displays, but I have not considered them. I really like the Z Ultra and like it, but the toad strangled it, because I can't give such a lot of money, essentially for a phone. I bought it in February in one of the communication salons for 13,000 rubles.

After taking advantage of some time, I decided to write a story about him. There are no reviews about this phone on Helpix yet, and I decided to fix it. And here I had some hitch. The point is that writing about an advanced flagship is much easier and more interesting. It is written quite differently about a phone of an average, and even more so a low price category. Here a problem arises: how to describe a device that is not issued by anything? However, as practice shows, it is these middle peasants that arouse the greatest interest among readers. Here the availability (price) of the gadget plays the main role. Not everyone can afford to buy a device comparable to the cost of a modern refrigerator or a fancy TV. Therefore, pulling myself together, I mustered up the courage and began to write this story.

Completion and appearance

The smartphone is offered in a blue box of the old (still "Nokia") sample with the image of the phone itself in different colors.

Inside the box, in addition to the smartphone, are: a 1.5 A power supply adapter, a USB cable, a paper manual and a simple headset (even without a call answering key).

The smartphone I got is a classic black color. In short, the phone looks like a complete copy of Lumia 620 /. Only the dimensions are "slightly" larger: 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.79 mm. Rectangular body, rounded corners - there is nothing to catch the eye. Especially in my case, when the back cover is black.

The controls are traditional for most Lumia smartphones: on the top there is a 3.5 mm audio jack, on the bottom there is micro USB, on the right side of the volume, power and camera keys.

Let's see what and how is located on the back of the smartphone: on top you can find an LED flash, a little below - a 5-megapixel camera lens, in the center - a logo, below - a small hole for an external speaker, on the sides of which there are protrusions (they do not drown out the sound speaker when the smartphone is on a flat surface).

The case can be called non-separable, except for the back cover, which can later be changed to a different color. Which is what I actually did. Cover material - matte plastic. The solution is practical, no prints are visible on the orange cover.

Under the cover there are slots for a memory card and a microSIM card, one above the other. The battery is non-removable, its capacity is 3400 mAh.

The front part of the body is covered with a tempered glass Gorilla Glass 3. Above you can see a slot for the earpiece, logo, proximity sensor, light sensor and front camera. At the bottom end there are three hardware touch keys: "Back", "Home" and "Search". I must say right away that the keys have no backlighting. You can only enable or disable vibration when pressed. But, since the area allows ☺, erroneous presses never occurred.

In principle, this is the whole description, so I am smoothly moving on to the next point. But before that - a few more photos.

What do you like? Strengths, dignity.

First of all - I call him. And I will say that it is convenient for me to call. (Remember about the woman with the child at the beginning of the story?) The device does not fall out of my hands, even though my hands are not giant. I'm used to it ☺. I placed the call button in the place where it is convenient for me to click on it, since the main screen on WP is a constructor.

The audibility is excellent, everyone can hear me. Signal reception is excellent - the network does not lose. As a telephone, it is an excellent device. But I bought it mainly because of the screen size.

The fact is that I really love to read, and I don't understand a single day without reading books. And it's important for me to watch the news every day. And how wonderful, especially in the morning, with a cup of coffee, to view, for example, a fresh story on Helpix, or on other equally interesting specialized resources. I could lug around with my laptop in the morning, but you must admit how inconvenient it is. And in the morning, time always flies very quickly, so it's easier to grab a smartphone, which is immediately ready to open any news application, rss feed or favorite site. Which, in fact, I have always done. Therefore, when I started using the Nokia Lumia 1320, first of all I appreciated the wonderful six-inch screen. Display resolution HD 1280x720 pixels with a pixel density of 245 ppi. It seems not a high indicator, but such trifles do not bother me. In fact, the brightness and contrast are at a high level, and the pixels are almost invisible. I liked the rather high viewing angles: the image does not fade when tilted.

The IPS screen is made using ClearBlack technology, so it almost does not glare in the light. Another plus is the super sensitive sensor, thanks to which the screen of the Lumia 1320 is perfectly controlled with gloves. Which is very important in winter in our region. Of course, there are screen settings - color profiles, so that neutral IPS can be brought in line with AMOLED if you wish.

I really, really liked the protection of the screen with Gorilla Glass 3. After all, I did not immediately get used to managing my "spatula". After all, besides the dimensions, the weight of the phone is not small - 220 g. It fell repeatedly, and on different surfaces. As a result, there are no chips or scratches on the display. And the assembly is such that the case did not receive any damage, and the back cover is intact.

The display brightness is adjustable in four levels: high, medium and low, as well as automatic mode. The brightness is very decent - at a low level, the picture looks like some at the maximum. In the daytime, especially in summer, this is just wonderful, but in the dark, the brightness is too much. In this case, the automatic mode helps out. On "automatic" the minimum brightness allows you to read comfortably in the dark.

On such a screen, painfully familiar applications and Internet sites began to look different. Not in the sense that they are not displayed that way. No. It's just that on a larger screen, information looks larger, more readable; it became more convenient to type texts (since the keyboard is now larger), news and books are more pleasant to read, etc.

The main thing is that you are not holding a tablet, but the same smartphone that is always at hand. After the Nokia Lumia 1320, looking at the displays of smaller smartphones, I felt like I was looking through a keyhole. It feels like everything is small and nothing is visible. Naturally, in addition to browsing websites and reading books, I also watch videos. And I find it very comfortable to watch movies on a six-inch screen. (I recall, by the way, the time when my neighbors had an "Electronics VL-100" TV on the refrigerator in the kitchen with a 16 cm screen diagonal. It is not difficult to calculate that this equals 6.29 inches. Slightly more than Lumiya 1320 , only the aspect ratio is slightly different. The most interesting thing is that the whole family watched the movie in the kitchen, without experiencing any discomfort. At the same time, the picture was black and white, and the quality left much to be desired.)

For communication on the Internet, there are decent clients of all social networks. Some, for example, Odnoklassniki, are decorated in a tiled style. I also installed VKontakte, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. For those who like to chirp I can suggest Tweet It! is an unofficial Twitter client with many features and a beautiful interface. True, paid, but there is an opportunity to install a free demo version and try.

There are many photographic applications that start with the word "Lumia". They are very good for smartphones with powerful cameras, but the Lumia 1320 is also fun to experiment and even try to master the basics of photography.

At the end of the section on software, I will add the so-called, my personal must have. Among messengers, these are Skype, WhatsApp and Messenger. To work with documents, besides Office, I use Adobe Reader and Office Lens - a powerful tool for scanning and processing documents.

To work with smartphone files, I liked the Files & Folders Pro file manager.

The news apps are Flipboard, Mail.ru News and Microsoft News. In general, I have many applications from MS, I like their quality and functionality. This includes "Weather", "Finance", "Health and Fitness", and a very convenient translator Translator. The cloud storage I use is represented by the official apps: OneDrive and Dropbox. And for various notes and "reminders" I use OneNote and Wunderlist.

Finally, I want to tell you about one more useful application. It is called Gestures Beta.

Its essence is that during an incoming call, you can simply bring the phone to your ear and the connection will be automatically established. In winter, the most relevant thing. Other functions include turning on the speakerphone if you put the phone face up on the table during a call, and mute the microphone if you turn the device face down. The app is free and works great despite being in beta.

These are the main applications I have installed. I will not talk about all the others, as it will take a very long time. Maybe I'll write a separate story about them.

In general, my phone has absolutely everything you need, both for work and for entertainment and recreation. The store is full of all kinds of software. There are, of course, cases when some developers flatly (or out of principle) do not port their applications to WP. On this score, I can only say one thing. Such developers simply do not respect their electorate. They spit on their own loyal users.

And the one who treats people with understanding and wants his service (program, application) to be used by as many people as possible, will definitely take care of releasing his product on all mobile OS.

Camera

Rather, cameras. One frontal for video calls. The camera is VGA, so selfies are unlikely to work. But, communicating on Skype, I made sure that video communication suits me. The main camera is 5 megapixel. This is not much by modern standards and could be attributed to the disadvantages of the device. And I will definitely mention it in the "disadvantages" section. But, oddly enough, the camera turned out to be quite good. With sufficient daylight, good pictures are obtained. It's worse indoors, of course. In the dark, in night mode, you can, of course, contrive and take pictures. It is clear that the quality is weak, but nonetheless. I even know some phones that have worse 8 megapixels.

The fact is that when buying a phone, you need to firmly understand for what purpose it is needed. If you really need to photograph, then it will definitely not work. And for Internet affairs - just right. Throw a photo on Instagram or update a status on Facebook. At worst, it is quite possible to capture some event. When I bought this device, I weighed all this and it suited me.

What's not to like? Weaknesses, disadvantages.

Despite the many advantages, I will swear in this section. I'll start with the design. When a phone costs 1000 rubles, no one even remembers its appearance and design, because this is insignificant due to its low cost. When you pay more than 10 thousand for a gadget, you want to have a more or less attractive phone. Of course, when the main instrument of a smartphone is the display, there isn't much to look at. But after all, many manufacturers manage to make a beautiful design on such minimalism. Remember only smartphones Sony, HTC or Chinese Xiaomi, Meizu, etc. Nice to pick up, good materials and workmanship. And now I'm not talking about top models, but about the middle segment. Even the budget employee Explay Tornado has a design in the form of a stylishly designed "leather-like" back cover. And the Nokia Lumia 1320? Design (if you can call it design) is as minimalistic as you can imagine. I understand that the "middle segment" tried to save money. But not to the same extent. You could add some element, somehow diversify the body. It is unlikely that this would affect the price. It's good that you can change the color of the back panels. At least some variety. In general, the design of the device is its main disadvantage.

Another drawback, in my opinion, is the lack of wireless charging. It would be possible to bring the contacts for wireless charging under the cover, and make the function itself an additional option. Like the Lumia 820: whoever wants can buy a charging cover later. Then the price would not change, and the device would be much more interesting.

And, of course, the camera. Although it is in the phone and of decent quality, the 5-megapixel module is too budgetary. Even the cheapest phones are equipped with similar cameras. The manufacturer could install 8 megapixels and stay in the same price range.

To be completely honest, I will add to the disadvantages the lack of an NFC chip. (Although this support is available on Lumiya 820, I have never used it.) But progress does not stand still. In big cities, contactless payments are already practiced using this technology. Many people use NFC to instantly connect various devices to a smartphone, program various actions using NFC tags, etc. Therefore, the lack of this technology for many can be a significant disadvantage.

What are you missing in it?

With regards to functionality, everything is enough. Well, I spoke about the design and shortcomings above.

Competitors

If we consider competitors in terms of screen size, then WP has only one competitor. This is Nokia Lumia 1520. The best smartphone in all respects, both in design and technical characteristics. Lumia 1320 differs for the better only in price. And for many, this is a decisive factor.

The rest of the Windows Phone smartphones have different screen sizes, as well as either better or worse specifications. But those smartphones have completely different use cases, so you shouldn't consider them as competitors.

Summary

Nokia Lumia 1320 is a somewhat controversial smartphone due to some shortcomings (or features?).

But, after a while of using it, you begin to understand how good and friendly it is to its owner. The smartphone will delight you with an excellent display and long battery life. For him, on sale you can easily find covers, bumpers and replaceable covers. Overall, this is a great smartphone for everyday tasks.

Putting all the pros and cons and adding a reasonable price, I can safely give this device 10 points.

Many thanks to everyone who read the story. Happy New Year to all the creators, readers and writers of the Helpix website! I wish you happiness and creative success.

Yours faithfully,

Dmitriy

More recently, it has become difficult to tell the difference between a large smartphone and a small tablet. To get even more confused in these simple concepts, people have developed another type of device, which is called "phablet". This device, in fact, became the line between tablets and smartphones, combining the large size of the tablet and the telephone component of the smartphone. At the same time, the devices found their buyer even where it was possible to get by with an average smartphone. Over time, the popularity of phablets began to grow rapidly, and those who yesterday scolded with a 4.5-inch smartphone today are queuing for 5.5-6-inch pandora, and those talking about the ideal display size of the iPhone 4 take up space at the store on 5 Avenue after every 5.5-inch iPhone news.

Not spared phablets and Nokia, which presented a couple of such devices. One of them was the hero of our today's review. This is the younger variation of Nokia Lumia 1520 - 1320. The “younger” means not a smaller size, but simpler technical characteristics. An affordable Finnish phablet, so to speak.

First impressions

When you open a box with a smartphone, you expect that there will be a lot of extra cardboard around the device itself. But this is not the case. The smartphone is larger than it appears in the pictures. As the owner of small hands, I had to get used to the dimensions of the device for a long time. In the first couple of minutes with a smartphone, you involuntarily start looking for a pocket for it. So, jeans for it also need to be chosen, because not every pocket can cope with the Lumia 1320. If we are talking about a lady who wants to hide it not in a bag, then it will be difficult for her to find a suitable pocket on women's clothing, because even small smartphones are beautiful half of the population can not always put money in their pockets.

After launching the device, the user will be covered with a new wave of surprise in size. This time, the size of the interface on such a display will be amazing. Small tiles (as I saw somewhere on the web, they were called "quarters") are by no means small. They are slightly smaller than the icons on the iPhone screen. You won't have to peer at the icon, it is legible even from the other end of the city. Well, okay, here I exaggerated a little, but, nevertheless, the size is very impressive. And the shape requires getting used to, at first the smartphone planned to slip out of hands a couple of times. But more on that later. The device comes with a charger with a removable USB-MicroUSB cord and in-ear headphones with a weak sound, which is traditionally for a complete headset. The initial setup of all the most important took me from 40 minutes to an hour, after which I began to get to know him in more detail.

Design, buttons ...

The exterior of Nokia Lumia 1320 has a very ambiguous feeling. The design is minimalistic without any catchy elements. On the one hand, it can be diluted with the color of the case, the buyer can choose from red, white, yellow and, as in our case, black case. Why there is no green in the list, I do not understand. The body still lacks some lines, inserts of a different color, some kind of prominent edging. Something to make the design a little more interesting. On the other hand, this minimalism, especially in black, will attract its client. In any case, our sample looks very strict, just right for an employee of a large audit company, for example. In short, not a children's smartphone - both in terms of design and in terms of size.

The 6-inch display fits into a case measuring 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8, the weight turned out to be especially notable - 220 grams. As for a small tablet (and this is how this phablet is perceived), the dimensions are quite normal. First of all, such a device is interesting for people with a large palm. A friend of mine who owns a Note 3 is comfortable handling the Lumia 1320 with one hand. Although he had to shift the smartphone in his hand a little, depending on the task being performed. It's extremely difficult for me to even dial the address of the page in the browser, although you can answer a call with one hand without any problems - the answer / reset buttons are large enough. Don't go to a fortune-teller - most people will still be more comfortable using this phablet with just two hands. So the chances of dropping it are less, and the speed of interaction is much higher due to the absence of the need to change the position of the smartphone in the hand.

The assembly was successful! Despite the plastic case, very large dimensions and a removable back cover, the device does not crunch even when twisted. And the smartphone bends reluctantly. The cover can be removed at the bottom corners and with difficulty. Under it is only access to the memory card and Sim, the battery is not removable and the approaches to it are closed. The lid is tightly fastened to 17 fasteners, in case of damage it can be replaced, while also changing the color of the case. The control buttons are located directly on the cover, and when it is replaced, they will also change.

All buttons are located on the right side: double volume control buttons, a power button and a two-position camera control button. Top - headset jack, bottom - Micro USB. On the back there is a camera window, a flash, a dark Nokia logo and a small earpiece. The front panel is completely under glass, on top there is a slot for a small earpiece, proximity and lighting sensors, another company logo and a front camera. Below the display are Back, Windows, and Search buttons. They are not backlit, but have a very large touch surface. Between the glass and the case at the bottom, you can hardly find a microphone hole.

To get used to such a device and get used to its dimensions, you need to tinker a little with it, use it. For a couple of days I got the hang of it. It is worth getting used to the fact that the body is quite slippery, and this, given the very impressive weight of the device, does not help it stay in the user's hand. I managed to do without random drop tests, but came close a couple of times. Such a moment should be taken into account by those who have repeatedly been accused of releasing a smartphone from their hands. Well, and for those who often operate a smartphone with one hand - this device will be too big for such tricks. But those who need a phablet of this size should like the Lumia 1320. Yes, there are competitors running Android, which with the same displays are slightly smaller and the design is subjectively more interesting, but of those that work with WP 8, only Lumia 1320 and 1520 have a display with such a diagonal.

Display

One of the main features of the Lumia 1320 is the display. More precisely, its size. Those who need a phablet have a limited choice. And due to the size of the display, an error in one of the criteria can negate the use of such a device. And in this case, Nokia did well. The 6-inch display received an IPS-matrix with the proprietary technology Clear Black. The resolution is smaller than the Lumia 1520 and is 1280 x 720 pixels, which is equal to 245 ppi. Maybe not a record, but in practice it looks pretty good. Colors are rendered perfectly, viewing angles are maximum. The picture on the display is perfectly visible even in bright light.

The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 with an oleophobic coating. By the way, the print-resistant coating could be better, although it is difficult to call it completely bad. Already traditionally for Nokia, the display can operate in supersensitive mode, which will allow you not to take off your gloves in winter. A nice bonus is the Lumia Color Profile, where you can adjust color temperature and saturation. Overall, the display is very good. What the phablet needs. Of course, if you do not suffer from too sharp eyesight and 245 ppi is very little for you. In practice, surfing the Web, reading social media feeds, working with documents and mail, watching videos are the very tasks for this display size! What is a little lacking is the ability to quickly screw on the backlight (as can be done in iOS and Android), but this need arises infrequently.

Cameras, photos and videos

As expected, the Lumia 1320 has two cameras. Front - 0.3 megapixel. It is very weak, and a more or less good selfie can only be taken in very good lighting conditions. But for video communication it should be enough. The main camera for today is not a record at all - 5 megapixels. But no matter how it sounds, this is a perfectly normal camera with quite good results. It starts up quickly and focuses quickly enough. The photos are quite satisfactory. The video is recorded in FullHD, and, as is the case with the photo, the camera needs more light. But she adjusts the exposure very well and quickly. Of course, this is not a camera that can replace at least a soap dish on vacation. But, you see, for a phablet, this is not at all the primary selection criterion. So a couple of pictures for clarity - and move on.

Hardware, software and performance

New mid-range devices do not receive flagship features. But this does not mean that they should be dull and choked on three open tabs, right? Naturally, since the main model in the line is the 1520, the 1320 is simpler. So, inside the phablet, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, clocked at 1.7 GHz, Adreno 305, 1 gigabyte of RAM and 8 gigabytes of storage were installed. There is a slot for memory cards, but you should count on it only as storage for media, because you cannot transfer applications to a memory card in Windows Phone 8 yet. But everything works extremely fast! WP is smooth and pleasant in principle, and the Lumia 1320 does not disappoint. Here are some tests.

In practice, Windows Phone 8 works just fine with such hardware. Any custom tasks are executed quite quickly and beautifully. For the entire time of using the device, I have not observed any problems with the work. Feels like this smartphone is slightly faster than Android devices of the same price. Only the developer should tweak the speed of some animations (for example, the animation of closing an application in the multitasking menu). Problematic places are software that is not available for WP, and miscalculations in the style of illogically scattered elements in the settings. Some kind of "curtain" or "hub" (as in the BlackBerry) is also a little lacking. But this whole thing is not of the first importance and, most likely, it is profitable. In a couple of days, you can get used to living without it.

And by the way, about a couple of days. The device works somehow too long as for a device with such a display diagonal. The device was enough for me for a couple of days without an outlet. At the same time, mail, twitter, browsing, some games, phone calls and navigation were used when they were needed, and not when the battery allowed. I am sure that everyone will be happy with the autonomy of the device. There is simply no need to limit yourself to something, and without charging it will be very calm in a backpack (or bag). The optimization of the OS and the 3400 mAh battery played a role here. If it were also removable, it would be just perfect. Although the autonomy of a smartphone is a very strong point.

Conclusions and personal impressions

It's not often that I have a Windows Phone device. But each time they leave pleasant emotions. The Lumia 1320 is a great phablet. The weak points are the camera and, subjectively, the design. I would like the device to be more interesting in this regard. But the rest of the phablet is just great. The phone capabilities are good, the display is large, bright and responsive, with pleasant colors, the performance is sufficient for most modern tasks (only with top-end games there can be slight hiccups), the dimensions are excellent for reading, watching videos and navigating. Everything a good phablet needs. Well, yes, you should think about a big pocket for such a smartphone. You can quickly get used to a fairly large weight. Although it is unlikely that a potential user of the phablet looks at this criterion.

To pay for the Lumia 1320 in Ukraine you need an average of $ 300 (adjust for the course). At the same time, you will have to pay another $ 200-250 for the flagship. There are simply no other options for phablets on WP. And then the choice is up to the user: if games, camera resolution and display are not so important, then you can save a lot. For those who need a phablet with WP on board, the 1320 will be a solution for those who are undemanding to the above, and the 1520 will be the most top-end solution. It seems to me that the 1320 is a good device that fully justifies its cost. For an enthusiast or geek, its capabilities will not be enough, but for most ordinary users, it will do. But, as is the case with any device at an affordable price, with something you still need to come to terms.
