New inspiron 13 7000 series laptop 2 in 1

Optimization is the modification of a system to improve its efficiency. Transformers is an example of optimization in action. In fact, you get one device in your hands, but in fact - several. It is thanks to the 2-in-1 marketing gimmick and the really convenient form factor of turning a laptop into a tablet that convertible gadgets quickly captured the hearts of users. But how innocently everything once began - the developer of the Taiwanese company ASUS saw a Russian nesting doll! And now laptops bend everyone who can afford it. The American company Dell can still do it! Therefore, from under her wing, an inexpensive, but very acrobatic Dell Inspiron 13 appeared.

Once the company showed us a very freaky device from the field of transformers - its display rotated in a frame. Like a plastic board in lecture halls. It looked a little more than strange, and I'm not at all sure that it was popular. And not so long ago Dell released the Inspiron 13 - a classic in its purest form. Laptop turns ... turns ... into a tablet! Large, but still.

Dell Inspiron 13 2-in-1 Convertible Video Review

Appearance and ergonomics

The first time you see a laptop in a video, picture, or in the hands of another person, it seems out of date. Wide, massive, gray flat angular surface, mirrored logo, there is no feeling of lightness and airiness. In the first second of my acquaintance I thought: “Well, what is this all about? Does anyone else release this? " BUT! This is just the case when the device needs to be touched and examined carefully! Trust me, first impressions are deceiving. You touch it - and that's it, you already like it.

The whole secret is in soft-touch plastic, it covers the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe laptop. And if from above it is good because it collects prints poorly (and if it did, then they are almost invisible), and grasping (it will not slip out even from the most awkward hands - it is checked), then on the area under the hands it is just a find. It feels like velvet has been laid under your palms. It is very convenient to work, you can not get up from the computer at least around the clock. My laptop has lived for more than two weeks, and while there is no feeling that the coating has worn off, it's still just as pleasant to work with. Well, to be completely honest, I like the way it shines. Not glamorous, but stylish.

The second nice feature is the flat sides and rounded front edges. This, firstly, looks stylish, and secondly, it affects convenience. The edges do not bite into the wrists, here a comfortable slope. Right here from me is a big plus in the piggy bank.

On the bottom, the cover is, one might say, two-stage, matte and pleasant to the touch, it is held by 5 screws (don't touch 5 more along the edge, if you decide to remove it, that's not it) and latches. Under it are hidden an unsoldered slot for one RAM bar and an unsoldered disk. The Inspiron 13 stands on 4 really stable rubberized feet. For the entire time of use, he warmed himself slightly - in the center and a little closer to the right edge, so it is allowed to keep on his knees. There is a “blow-out” grill on the lid, but there has never been a laptop running like a heated fan. Everything is decorous.

The Dell Inspiron 13 is a 13 "laptop while the Dell Inspiron 11 is an 11" laptop. Your Captain. They are almost identical to each other, right down to battery capacity, just a 2-inch difference and an improved processor. The parameters of our device: 19.4 x 330 x 222 mm. A lot, but not critical either. Enough for comfortable work, fits into a backpack. If you go with a reticule, it will fit into the complete bag. In general, all the details fit well together, and there was no feeling that something was creaking or groaning. But the laptop did not prepare well for the spring and weighs as much as 1700 grams. As a girl, I was terribly offended that Lyapota received a “passenger car” for review, which does not hold off a backpack, and I go to the office with a two-kilogram bandura. The men in the office said that I was making it up and that it was not heavy. Well, oh-oh-ok.

All the necessary connectors are located on two sides: for the Kensington lock, for the power supply, HDMI, 2 USB 3.0 ports (1 USB 3.0 port with PowerShare technology), a combined audio jack, speakers on the right and left - for stereo sound (by the way, after ASUS Zenbook there are enough speakers loud). As for the sound quality, I'm not a great specialist, but the sound seemed decent to me. On the front side there is a power indicator, on the right there are mechanical power buttons and a volume rocker, another USB, this time 2.0, a card reader (SD, MMC) and a hidden stylus or an electronic pen.

Not to say that this detail can be called a plus of the device. This is a regular passive stylus, just made in the form of a pencil and looks stylish. I used it very infrequently, only if there is a desire to dim. Everything is better than a finger, although it does not recognize the force of pressing and does not own smart functions. But with its help it is convenient to edit text.

There are hinges between the display and the keyboard. And here, let's go straight to the next point.

Acrobaticity

Dell Inspiron 13 knows and practices the "Laptop", "Tablet", "Console" and "Presentation" modes. Spied on Lenovo Yoga, because Dell does not name these positions, limiting themselves to a humble description “In the 2-in-1 system of the Inspiron 13 7000 series, the highest performance of a premium laptop is complemented by the versatility of a 13.3-inch tablet with an integrated pen ”. That is, like 2 poses, no more. But we promoted it for more (I hope it doesn't sound good). As for my feelings, the hinges are a little tight. On the one hand, this is good - they will not fail after a thousandth flexion. On the other hand, sometimes the process of turning out was so difficult that he had time to think, “Why bend it at all?” and did not bend. I sit in the editorial office table-to-table with Seryozha Shamanov, and sometimes, when I need to show something quickly, I want to flip the display with all the pathos. But bending a laptop is not as fast as it seems at first glance.

You can make a tablet from a laptop, but it turns out it is not very mobile. I can't say with certainty that this is a direct option for everyone. Sitting on the subway with such a display, reading books ... It’s possible, but it’s hardly very convenient. But in the evening, after finishing work, remove the keyboard and watch movies, TV shows, or just stupid on the internet. Everything is convenient. In this case, the keyboard is blocked, you can grab the buttons with peace of mind. But the mechanical ones on the side remain in working order, so you can increase the volume both with their help and by pulling the slider with your finger on the touch screen - as it is more convenient for you personally.

Display

Here I have very controversial feelings. Let me explain. 13.3 inches is the optimal diagonal. You can't call a laptop a dinosaur, you can take it with you on a trip, with that everything is ok. FullHD resolution is enough with a head (and there is also a model with a resolution of 1366 x 768), the colors are bright and saturated, however, it can turn blue or green at an angle, but this is not critical. Everything is fine with him and with backlighting - the maximum is enough on a sunny day (but with closed curtains or blinds), the minimum is comfortable in a poorly lit room. There is a light sensor, which is responsible for automatically adjusting the display brightness (and keyboard backlighting, but more on that later), and it works, plus or minus, adequately. A mechanical Windows button is located under the display. This is no longer a system requirement, but it will not be superfluous. On this my "liked" everything.

The first thing you pay attention to is that the scope is too wide. Now, if on the sides and on top they are just wide, then at the bottom there is just a double chin. It doesn't look very pretty. Although when you spin the laptop to the tablet and hold the display with your fingers, then let them lie better in the margins than in the picture.

The second is rigidity. She's not very straight at all. The lid with the display can bend, like in a frying pan. Soft display. Plus, it's very thin. Be sure to check out the video. If it turned out to be not very expressive for your taste, I clarify that the screen is pressed with a finger. Not to dents, of course, but even when you forcefully push the laptop towards you while sitting at the table and holding the lid, stains may appear on the display. In this case, I do not recommend pressing the cover at all under any circumstances. Not with your fingers or anything else. This means that you have to put your laptop in your luggage very, very, very carefully. And if you put it in your backpack and take it with you on the plane as carry-on luggage, then it's better to take it out and hold it in your hands. My display remained intact during testing, but there is never too much caution.

The third, and maybe my personal problem as a crash tester with experience is the elastic band around the display of insufficient height or density. The laptop closes very quickly, as if there are magnets somewhere, and each time it seems that everything happened so abruptly that the glass broke. It certainly didn't happen, it's solid and ok, but the user experience is priceless. You should have seen my face from the side when the lid slammed shut for the first time.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard does not occupy the entire perimeter, the space on the right and left is two more fingers. It is located in a small depression with a sill border along the edge. Island keys with an easy middle travel, single-storey Enter and two levels of backlighting, which, as I said, can be switched on and off arbitrarily. The top row of buttons works without the Fn button, but if you want to refresh the page or go to full screen mode and stuff like that, you will need it. I don't have a Russian layout, but it will definitely be on sale.

The manufacturer claims that the keyboard is waterproof, but a test copy visited our editorial office, so we did not experiment, we were afraid. In theory, nothing happens to your Dell Inspiron 13 if you knock over a cup of tea or splash water. How to paint - share your experience. In general, I liked working with the keyboard. The distance between the keys is comfortable, the stroke, the texture - everything is for me.

The touchpad is in the center, but due to the fact that it is not directly under the spacebar, it seems as if it has moved slightly to the right. The upper edge with the keys is flush with the body, and the lower edge is slightly in the recess, it turned out to be a kind of slide along which it is convenient to slide your fingers to swipe. Although so minimal that I still thought about it - maybe it's just that it's crookedly glued? I would like to believe that it's still a stingray! Touch recognizes exactly, knows Windows gestures, there are practically no complaints about it. Sometimes it happened that he independently raised or lowered the precisely hover cursor. It pisses me off. But, in principle, this happened so infrequently that I normally used the laptop without a mouse.

Performance

I already told you that there is an 11-inch model in the Inspiron 2-in-1 line, but it was the 13-inch model that received an Intel Core i5-5200U with the Broadwell microarchitecture, 2.2 GHz and a maximum of 2.7 GHz under the hood. , graphics Intel HD Graphics 4400. In addition to this option, there are modifications with Intel Core i7 5500U at 2.4 GHz or Intel Core i3 4030U at 1.9 GHz. Choice of hard drive: 500 GB SATA drive (5400 rpm) or 256 GB. RAM 8 GB with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, note - DDR3L. Keep two screenshots of the most important performance tests to confirm my words - it's powerful enough to work with a lot of information and run simple games on minimal settings with a little fps.

I'm not a gamer, and the positioning of the laptop is far from the gaming one. This is a business device, you have to bring it to your office, put it on a beautiful oak table and not drag it anywhere else. Only perhaps from a meeting room to a meeting room. Or coworking if you're a hipster startup with no fixed job. Even though you can afford to launch tanks or KS here, it will not look juicy enough to play high. But if you run a million tabs in multiple browsers, work with videos, spreadsheets, documents, photographs, and whatever else comes up at the same time, the Dell Inspiron 13 will not die and beg for mercy.

Autonomy

This is just the pitfall of the device. The built-in 43 W / h battery (not removable or replaceable) makes it possible to work with a laptop autonomously for 3 hours at maximum loads. If you have an average rate of devouring the charge, that is, working with documents, online video and surfing the internet - it will be enough, like me, for five hours. If you work exclusively with documents, then 7 hours. This is never a record at all, and I would say that autonomy is the crooked leg of this laptop. I would like more.

Output

The Dell Inspiron 13 laptop can be found in stores for about $ 900 for the lowest-end configuration, or about $ 1,000 for ours (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, FullHD display). And that's a thousand dollars less than the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, or just over $ 500 less than the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. In short, consider yourself buying a stylish budget employee in the world of transformers. It's not the cheapest option if you're just looking for a laptop, but it's quite a hefty price tag for a 2-in-1 device.

For me, a laptop is very, very good if you want to buy a home or work device. That is, without moving it somewhere far away. With such autonomy and rigidity of the display of this representative of office residents, I would not take a movie to show with me. The maximum is to bring it to the coworking space.

It is beautiful, stylish, comfortable and very pleasant to the touch, if necessary, it turns into a tablet or a tent, copes with loads above average, and this is exactly what students, startups, schoolchildren, office managers, businessmen, marketers, journalists and in general to many, many people. This laptop is very pleasant to work with, and this is one of the main arguments for.

In our review today, we are going to take a look at the Dell Inspiron 13 5368, which in one swipe turns from a tablet and back to a laptop.
I will not delay the introduction, I will go straight to the point.

Design

The Inspiron 13's appearance is austere, simple, minimalist and uncluttered.
Of course, the plastic case, even if it is made "under the chrome-plated metal" does not cause a "wow" effect, but this is not a flagship device either.

The laptop has rather sharp corners, the company logo is located on the lid. The screen is held on two rather tight hinges, which allow the case to be rotated 360 degrees, changing the position of the entire device.

On the left, on the edge, there are two USB ports, a 3.5 mm audio-out for headphones and an HDMI port. On the right is another USB port and an SD card slot.

hats and slit

I was a little confused by the unhidden bolt caps on the bottom of the laptop.

As for the keyboard, it is a standard island type, the keys are made of black plastic, the case itself is made to match the color of the laptop. It is possible to choose from two key illumination modes.

The touchpad is large, comfortable to use and lacks pronounced keys.
The only key disadvantage that can alienate a potential user is the size and thickness - 325x224x20 mm and weighs 1.62 kg.

Display

Dell Inspiron 13 5368 is equipped with a 13.3-inch touchscreen display with FullHD-resolution 1920 × 1080 and a glossy finish. The latter is a significant drawback, coupled with a low level of maximum brightness, the image from the screen becomes unreadable in sunlight. Not even that - the slightest light will give you gigantic problems, even if the screen is turned away from the source. I think everything can be seen in the photo.

But the color rendition and contrast surprised us with their adequacy: the colors are close to natural, there is no discomfort during work.
I was also pleased with the good uniformity of the backlight. A display for those who like to work at night, not outdoors.

Iron

As a processor, the laptop received an Intel Core i5-6200U. This processor is characterized by good performance (for a laptop on which everyday tasks are performed), low power consumption and low temperature of the case heating under maximum loads.

During testing, the processor proved to be adequate hardware, able to compete with other companies' notebooks in terms of performance.
Someone may object, because the amount of RAM is only 4 GB, but, nevertheless, Dell Inspiron 13 5368 not only copes with standard tasks for a tablet, but also pulls games like World of Tanks, for example. Of course, the graphics settings will not be set to maximum, but this is already something. A kind of computer "Mom, I need to study" with nice Easter eggs.

As I said, the case practically does not heat up at maximum loads. Of course, the cooling system starts to make noise, but this happens everywhere even with laptops, and in this case the fans only make noise when running heavy games.

In terms of sound, the Inspiron 13 5368 is not an audiophile discovery. The speakers are ordinary - they will do for movies and even music. Although the sound in the headphones is a level higher and better than the sound of the speakers, nevertheless, no noise or wheezing occurred in any of the cases.

Battery

The Inspiron 13 5368 has a 42 Wh battery, and I must say that battery life is one of the key benefits of the Inspiron 13 5368.
For example, the device worked for 7 hours without recharging when performing various tasks.

Let's sum up

We do not yet know the final price (approximate - 40 thousand rubles) for the Dell Inspiron 13 5368, but the device is an acceptable option for people who want to have a device with them both for entertainment and for work for little money.
There are significant drawbacks such as a glossy screen and insufficient brightness, but we also have decent hardware and a long battery life.

When AMD unveiled its Ryzen Mobile APUs last October, three laptop models from three manufacturers were announced along with the new chips. Dell joined Ryzen Mobile with its Inspiron 17 5000 laptop in early March this year, and this month expanded its APU product line with the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 hybrid laptop. The new computers are relatively affordable and are already on sale in the US.

Dell currently offers two Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 models, one based on AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega 8 GPU and one based on AMD Ryzen 7 2700U with Radeon Vega 10 GPU. Systems are equipped with 8 or 12. GB of DDR4-2400 memory (the system supports up to 16 GB of RAM, but these configurations must be ordered specially), as well as 256 GB solid state drives, which is now the standard configuration for low-cost notebooks.

Dell equips the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 with a 13.3-inch IPS glossy touchscreen display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, LED backlighting and typical brightness, contrast and viewing angles for low-cost IPS panels. The display case has a webcam with a wide viewing angle and an infrared sensor, so the laptop supports facial recognition and Windows Hello technology.

Other features of the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 include 802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2, USB 3.0 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 connectors, HDMI 1.4 output, webcam, reader SD card, mic, stereo speakers with Waves MaxxAudio Pro software enhancements, TRRS audio jack and backlit keyboard. Unfortunately, the mobile PC does not support power transmission via the USB Type-C port, but uses a Dell round connector and proprietary charging.

The Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 convertible laptop is built in a 19.2 mm thick brushed aluminum case and weighs about 1.75 kg, depending on the configuration. The metal chassis should give the Inspiron 13 7000 a premium feel and some rigidity. Meanwhile, the weight of the PC seems too high for a 13-inch computer, it is significantly higher than the weight of the Lenovo Ideapad 720S powered by AMD Ryzen Mobile (1.14 kg).

Dell does not publish the laptop's battery life, but does say it comes with a 42 Watt-hour battery pack. The Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 has 10% less battery capacity than other 13-inch Ryzen Mobile laptops, so it remains to be seen how long it will last on a single charge compared to the competition.

Hybrid notebooks Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 are already available for purchase both on the manufacturer's website and in the BestBuy retail network. Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 model based on Ryzen 5 2500U and 8 GB of memory (I7375-A439GRY-PUS) has a recommended cost of $ 729 (about 45,200 rubles), and the version based on the more powerful Ryzen 7 2700U processor and 12 GB RAM— $ 879 (approximately 54,500 rubles). It is noteworthy that the specified retail chain sells new mobile PCs based on Ryzen Mobile for about $ 30 cheaper than Dell itself.

At the moment, nothing is known about Dell's plans to sell the Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1 based on AMD Ryzen Mobile in Europe and Russia. Considering the fact that the company already sells systems based on Intel Core of the eighth generation in Germany under this trademark, then we should expect that Dell laptops on Ryzen Mobile (if they appear) will receive a slightly different name on this side of the Atlantic.

Preliminary verdict: With a new, smaller webcam that bodes well for future XPS products and a great price tag, we're delighted not only with the way the Inspiron 13 7000 (2-in-1) performs in this review, but also with the prospects it offers. flagship line of laptops. Throw in support for Amazon Alexa and Dell Mobile Connect and you have a full-featured flagship laptop.

pros:

  • Redesigned smaller webcam;
  • Excellent configuration in the base model;
  • Sophisticated design and correct webcam position;
  • Extended support for the Alexa voice assistant;

Minuses:

  • No stylus included with hybrid laptop (2-in-1);

It seems that Dell has stepped around the corner and disguised the flagship laptop in the guise of the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (2 in 1). The manufacturer offered the most important luxury features in combination with good hardware, which is not new for this series, but this year - on - the notebooks look unusually new.

This year, the Inspiron 13 (2-in-1) features more specs that even the XPS 13 and 15 lack, including a new webcam that sits in its normal position despite the thin bezels.

Plus, with support for Amazon Alexa and Dell Mobile Connect to be controlled via Android phones and iPhones, the 2018 Inspiron 13 7000 (2 in 1) may well be an alternative.

| INSPIRON 13 7000 2 IN 1: PRICES

Dell will ask for $ 879 (Rs 57,000) for the Inspiron 13 7000 (2-in-1) when it goes on sale October 2. For the starting price, you get an 8th Gen Intel Core i5 processor in addition to a 128GB NVMe SSD and 8GB DDR4 memory behind a 13.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) touchscreen.

If you want more than the base configuration, you can opt for an Intel Core i7 processor, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of storage. The display is also upgradable up to a 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) panel. Dell did not disclose pricing for any of these updates, however.

The base model's price tag puts the Inspiron 13 7000 (2 in 1) up a notch with competing semi-premium laptops, offering the same hardware specs and flagship features in a reasonably luxurious package.

| INSPIRON 13 7000 2IN 1: DESIGN AND DISPLAY

All in all, this version of the Inspiron 13 7000 (2-in-1) does not feel extremely new from its predecessor. Instead of reinventing a new series, Dell is simply improving the design. One of the biggest changes - believe it or not - is the webcam.

Dell has managed to accommodate a smaller webcam with four microphones, which not only improves image quality in low light conditions, but also allows the company to revert to the correct webcam position with thin screen bezels. We can only hope that this feature will move to the XPS series.

Of course, the laptop is still housed in an all-aluminum frame secured by two sturdy hinges that provide all the functionality of a 2-in-1 hybrid. However, this year's model is redefining the keyboard assembly with a brushed aluminum base.

The keyboard that rests on the base of the laptop is also great and workable, you can type on it at normal speed after a short getting used to, just a short briefing period. The keyboard is also backlit. The same goes for the touchpad: a seamless and enjoyable experience.

The laptop has dimensions: 307.7 x 212.45 x 13.68 mm and weighs 1.44 kg. It is the thinnest and lightest laptop in its category, although it can rival flagship companies for its money.

This laptop's TrueLife display looks fantastic and responds well to any touch commands, but the panel is glossy. This means that as long as IPS technology provides wide viewing angles, direct light (from outside, for example) will adversely affect the visibility and legibility of the image due to a lot of glare.

| INSPIRON 13 7000 2IN 1: PERFORMANCE

It's always difficult to judge a laptop's performance from a hands-on review, but laptop configurations are promising. The combination of Intel Core i5 and 8GB of DDR4 RAM should handle most tasks effortlessly.

Supporting all this performance is a new heat dissipation system that directs heat through new vents located in the base near the screen hinges. Then this performance continues with a set of wired connections, including x1 USB-C 3.1, x1 USB 3.1, HDMI and a slot.

Unfortunately, Dell did not offer predicted battery life data. You should hope it performs better in our battery tests than the previous model - at least close to Dell's stated 8 hours and 20 minutes.

| INSPIRON 13 7000 2IN 1: FIRST OPINION

Dell may not have redesigned its 2018 Inspiron 13 7000 (2-in-1) too much, but the most important changes were made by the manufacturer. In fact, we see the most requested feature of the Dell XPS 13 and 15 implemented - a webcam compact enough to fit within the narrow display bezel.

As a result, we're not as interested in the Inspiron 13 7000's (2-in-1) capabilities, which will be revealed in the full review, as it does to Dell's flagship laptops. Throw in support for Amazon Alexa and Dell Mobile Connect, and the Inspiron is more like a flagship laptop than you might think.

If the laptop performs well enough in the full review, we might find an early alternative to Dell's XPS 13.
