The operating system is the system software that controls and coordinates the operation of the hardware components in the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet was presented to the general public in the fall of last year, but the model entered the market much later (in Russia there was even a corresponding presentation), and it was only now that it got to our review. However, the device is still relevant. The manufacturer calls the main feature of the device its 7.7 ”Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Naturally, this is not his only advantage, and as a person not particularly familiar with tablet computers, it was very interesting for me to get to know him better.

Design and construction

The official package includes the tablet itself, a charger, a cable for connecting to a PC, a headset with several attachments, and documentation. However, a copy from the Samsung test fund came to the review, which is completed only with a charger and a cable for synchronization, and as a small bonus - a branded case. The tablet has clearly gone through more than one journalist's hands. This is evidenced by a mark on the rear metal cover. Apparently, someone tried to test the strength of the device and, as you can see, it passed the test. Except for this point, the tablet looks presentable and instills a solid, expensive feel. Those who have held tablets with Chinese roots in their hands know what I'm talking about. I must say that the 3G module is present in the P6800, while the P6810 only offers Wi-Fi.

On the front side there are light and proximity sensors, a 2-megapixel camera, an earpiece hidden behind a metal mesh, a 7.7 ”touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and Gorilla Glass. This glass is known for its durability, which was confirmed by two weeks of testing - it did not appear scratches. The left end is decorated with microSD and SIM card slots. The holes themselves are closed with plugs, it is not difficult to open them, but they make a reliable impression. Nothing dangles or sticks out. The right side houses the volume keys and the power button. The key travel is moderately tight, it is convenient to use them. Since the sample is a test one, it has a feature that commercial copies do not have - an infrared port. The top side contains a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone for noise cancellation and stereo audio recording in video. Below we see two stereo speakers, a second microphone and a connector for connecting a charger or synchronizing with a PC. The back of the device houses the main 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, the manufacturer's logo on the aluminum cover, information about the model's version and its serial number. The lid does not creak or dangle, however, during use, its slight detachment from the body was revealed, however, it is easily fixable. Metal pleasantly cools the hand, and it looks stylish. Here Samsung has tried its best.

The tablet really turned out to be very attractive in appearance and differs both from Samsung tablets and from products of other manufacturers. The design of the back side, however, is a bit reminiscent of devices made by HTC, but in general Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is an original and pleasant product. Comparisons with the iPad will not be relevant here.

Software

At the time of writing, the tablet was running Android 3.2 Honeycomb. As for the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, a company spokesman said to expect it closer to the summer. As a shell, a proprietary TouchWiz is installed, known from Samsung smartphones, but adapted for tablets. The interface is quite nice and straightforward. Many users complain about significant brakes while working with the tablet, but I can say that the device does lag at times, but only slightly. As a rule, this is noticeable in the widget selection menu. The widgets themselves don't go anywhere without demand, they don't consume traffic. Manual updating of states is offered, but in the settings you can also set automatic.

By default, the user is allocated three desktops, the maximum number of them can reach seven. At first it was difficult for me to fill in even two - there were not many standard widgets. Gadgets are hidden in the status bar. Their number and the programs themselves can be customized and selected. The “Back” button is responsible for returning to the previous position, “House” returns to the main screen, with a long hold it calls the task manager, “Running applications” shows active and background programs, and the last button is responsible for taking screenshots. Several factory pictures are offered as a desktop background, including “live wallpapers”. Some of them do not look at all on a tablet screen, the saturation and richness of which reveals all the flaws of this or that picture, so I recommend installing some program from Google Play to search and install normal high-quality images. In my case, I used PicSpeed \u200b\u200bWallpaper.

In the Tablet Settings, you can see both standard Android items and branded supplements from Samsung. For example, in a section of the screen, you can select its mode - standard, movie or dynamic. This will soften the screen colors a little or make them calmer and more natural.

As you can see, the phone has a phone book, dialer and messages application. Since the model is equipped with a 3G module, you can easily call and write to your contacts directly from the tablet. It is not very convenient, and making calls from a tablet is generally ridiculous (without a Bluetooth headset), but when your phone runs out of power at the most inopportune moment, the “dialer” functions can help you out a lot.

The tablet offers several types of input: standard keyboard, Samsung keyboard, Swipe keyboard, and handwriting input. It is quite simple and convenient to work with all types. There will definitely not be any serious problems with mastering.

The standard browser is very similar in its appearance to Google Chrome for PC, offers synchronization with the desktop version of Chrome, allows you to customize the display mode for better power saving, supports Flash and offers many settings. The very same Internet surfing gives little pleasure due to the peculiar display of white color characteristic of AMOLED screens (bluish tint) and increased battery consumption when displaying it. And if the first moment can be called subjective, then you cannot argue with the second. On the other hand, the screen resolution allows you to view sites “as is” without using horizontal scrolling and zooming.

The AllShare app allows you to connect, for example, to a laptop or desktop PC via Wi-Fi and view or listen to files while lying on the couch. Convenient and implemented simply and efficiently.

Social Hub is an aggregator of all your online social activities. You can link Facebook, Twitter accounts to it. The program is quite convenient and informative, but the function of loading the next tweets “Show more” caused bewilderment by its inoperability.

Polaris Office is a powerful tool for viewing and editing documents. It supports many formats and its functionality seemed to me even redundant. On the other hand - a lot - not a little.

The music player is quite simple and intuitive. Equalizer settings, sound effects, sorting by artist, year, genre, folder, composer and so on are available. To change it to some other, by and large, and there is nothing. Only if you are not satisfied with the sound quality. It seemed to me very good, even without the inclusion of additional "enhancers". As the volume is turned up, the tablet carefully warns you that high volume levels can cause hearing problems.

The gallery of images and videos is typical for Android. The video player boasts of omnivorous formats. Everything that I put on the device was displayed without problems. True, I did not check Full HD films, since I see the point in watching such pictures on the tablet screen. The factory video, by the way, is made in Full-HD format and looks great. But, as for me, HD video will be enough, especially given the device's screen resolution. The image will pleasantly amaze you with its clarity and deep rich colors. And what Super AMOLED screens are for is video. It's hard to argue with that.

Built-in photo and video editors are powerful enough tools for editing footage.

The note taking app is very simple but functional at the same time. It allows you to attach and protect a note with a pin code, sync with Google or send to another device. The Notes offer essentially the same thing, but by hand.

Samsung Apps and GameHub provide access to a variety of tablet-optimized games and apps.

"Books and Press" allows you to read for free (for the first time) certain newspapers and magazines with which Samsung has agreed to cooperate. The list of Russian-language publications is constantly growing. You can also buy books or download free books right from here.

The tablet is equipped with everything you need to fully work out of the box. There are even built-in task manager and file manager unusual for Android.

The standard Android “Google Maps” is installed on the tablet as navigation software. The location is determined quickly, and with good Internet speed, it is generally instantaneous. For everyday use, the functionality of the program is more than enough.

YouTube in the tablet version looks nice and clear, it is pleasant to use it.

The World Clock application displays the cities you have selected and their time on the world map.

The “calendar” is also simple and intuitive. When synchronizing the tablet with a client of the social network VKontakte or Facebook, the calendar displays the birthdays of your friends, and the application widget, in which all these days are marked with small blue rectangles, will help you not to forget to congratulate them.

Camera

Of course, this point in tablets is far from the most important, but who knows when exactly the camera may come in handy for you, and besides the tablet there may be nothing else at hand. The Tab 7.7 is fine with that. Photos are above average quality. However, in low light conditions the camera slows down a lot. As for the video, everything is fine here too. I really liked the quality of video shooting, but shooting on a tablet is incredibly inconvenient and you hardly want to do it often. This is explained by the fact that microphones for high-quality stereo sound recording are placed on different sides of the device, but as luck would have it, that is where your hands end up during shooting. The only alternative is to hold the tablet upright.

There are a lot of settings in the photo, in the video mode, but there is nothing special here, and if you have ever taken pictures with your phone or camera, you can easily figure it out. Examples of photos and videos:

Experience of use

The tablet is equipped with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos 4210 (Cortex A9) processor with Mali-400MP graphics and 1 GB of RAM, so the device shows itself in the best possible way in terms of performance. Heavy games, background apps, HD video - everything works with a bang. The interface brakes can be attributed to the TouchWiz shell, which promises to be faster and smoother with the update to Android 4.0.

In benchmarks, the device showed itself at a high level. You can see the test results in the screenshots.

Battery life is a strength of the tablet. The 5100 mAh battery does its job. In my hands Tab 7.7 lived quietly for a day and a half in active use with a SIM card and all wireless modules, and more than 3 days in the “sometimes surf the Internet while lying on the couch” mode. If you do not load the device and use it from time to time, then it will calmly last for a week. In video playback mode, the device works for about 9 hours. The operating time, of course, can fluctuate both up and down, depending on the quality of the video being played, but, in general, the tablet fulfills the 10 hours of operation declared by the manufacturer in video mode.

The screen pleases with good viewing angles, but I don't like the white display. At the same time, rich colors and high brightness and contrast can overshadow all the flaws. The screen behaves well in the sun, the information remains readable. The display recognizes 10 simultaneous touches.

The tablet heats up noticeably with active use and the metal back cover here only aggravates the situation, however, the temperature is within normal limits, the hands do not burn and you can use the device without fear.

Outcome

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 could be called the ideal Android tablet: thin, stylish, lightweight, with a good screen and long battery life, but there is one "but" - the price. Officially, the device now costs about 25 thousand rubles for the younger version. You can buy a "gray" tablet for 16-17 thousand, and for this price the tablet looks incredibly attractive. The disadvantages include only slight interface slowdowns and a kind of white color display, but this parameter is rather subjective and many probably won't even focus on this. In addition, there are plans to upgrade to Android 4.0, which will optimize everything and everyone. The original cable for connecting to a PC and charging can also be a hassle, but with such a battery life it is very difficult to remain without charging at the wrong moment, so there is no need to constantly carry it with you.

;

So, today we have in our hands a tablet computer from the South Korean manufacturer Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a very interesting device, useful and meeting most of the needs of discerning modern users. In general terms, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can be described as a very large phone with laptop functions. Indeed, with the help of the device you can make phone calls; for this, the tablet has a slot for a SIM card (normal, not micro). And the ability to fully view web pages, videos, play games, download files from the Internet, communicate with friends on social networks - all this makes a small device an indispensable companion, for example, on a long journey, at a boring meeting or lecture, at home, in a cafe. .. Yes, anywhere. More details about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet below.

Size and weight

The standard set of Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus includes: a tablet with an ETA-З10XBE power adapter, a USB cable and a quick start guide. The first thing that comes to mind when you pick it up is an estimate of its size. The tablet is small, its dimensions are 193.65x122.37x9.96 mm, and its weight is only 345 g. The device fits comfortably in the hand, there is no need to hold it with both hands at the same time or place it on any surface. The portability of the tablet allows you to carry it in a small bag or even just in your pocket. In addition, the small size of the gadget makes it very convenient for both work and leisure or entertainment.

Inputs / outputs

At the top of the tablet is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and a speakerphone microphone (also used for video recording). The right side is occupied by the power / reset / lock key and the volume control button, the left side is occupied by connectors for a SIM card and memory card. The lower part of the case houses two speakers, a microphone and a multifunction jack.

The front panel of the tablet lacks physical keys. It is absolutely smooth, only the speaker is located at the top of the screen. A small ledge protrudes along the edges of the front panel, allowing you to safely lay the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus face down on a flat surface. In addition, the front side at the top of the screen houses distance and light sensors, as well as the front camera lens. Below is the familiar Samsung logo.

Turning the tablet over, we see the same logo on the back cover, which is made of matte plastic with a steel-like texture. The main camera lens and flash are also located here.

Hardware platform

The tablet is equipped with a dual-core Exynos 4210 processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz, a video accelerator - Mali-400. The amount of RAM is 1 GB. Of the 16 GB of built-in memory, the user actually has about 13 GB. You can view the memory usage in the tablet settings, section, respectively, - "Memory".

Interface

Individual settings

Having received a new device for the first time, each user immediately seeks to customize it "for himself." AT Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus this can be done with almost any element, from choosing an interface language to setting up wireless connections. All tablet settings are accessed through the "Settings" item in the application list. Here you can select the language you want, set touch sounds on or off, adjust the volume of device sounds, set your favorite ringtone and wallpaper on the home screen, change the font of the displayed text, enable automatic display brightness adjustment, and much more.

Main screen

The tablet home screen contains several desktops, five in total. The screen displays status icons, widgets, app shortcuts, and more. Switching between desktops is done by "flipping" them to the right or left. By default, the main screen contains the following elements: a button to search for applications and files on the device, as well as on the Internet (in Google); dots indicating the number of desktops (active table point is highlighted); the icon for going to the list of applications and the system bar. This area is designed to quickly move between desktops, open applications, view system information and much more. Thus, the leftmost swirling arrow icon returns to the previous screen. The next house-shaped icon returns to the main screen, and if you press and hold it, it brings up the task manager. The icon in the form of two rectangles allows you to quickly jump to the list of recently used applications, if you press and hold it, then we will go to the general list of applications. The fourth icon in the row takes a screenshot of the current screen and opens the drawing panel, a long tap just takes a screenshot. The arrow in the center of the system bar opens the compact application bar.

Well, and finally, on the far right of the system bar there are clock and device status icons, and a notification panel about various events is also displayed here. A light touch on the screen in this part calls up an area where you can view the current state of the tablet and use many functions: quickly turn on or off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, GPS, sound and vibration, power saving mode, auto rotate and driving mode, data connection, auto sync apps, and hide or show notification icons. You can place application shortcuts, links to contacts, widgets, and other items on the home screen. To do this, just press and hold your finger on the screen, which will become active in a few moments. In this mode, you can move and delete items on the screen. Items can be added to a new folder or to a new panel.

Apps and Widgets

The button for switching to applications takes us to the main menu, which is also the list of applications. The list of widgets is highlighted here as a separate tab. The collection of applications can be displayed either as an alphabetical table or as a custom table. Any application can be brought to the main screen, moved to another place in the list, dropped into a folder, or deleted. As we mentioned above, a list of recently viewed applications is displayed by pressing a button in the form of two rectangles. New applications can be downloaded through the built-in Play Store or Samsung Apps.

By opening the Task Manager, we can view the list of active applications and freely switch between them. Here you can also close one unnecessary application or close all running applications.

In addition to shortcuts, you can place mini-applications - widgets on the home screen. The widget panel is called from a special tab in the main menu. Here you can select the desired widget, "pinch" it with your finger and drag it to any screen.

Virtual keyboard

You can enter text in a tablet in several ways. Firstly, you can use the virtual keyboard Samsung or Swype, and secondly, you can "speak" words into the microphone, or you can use the handwriting function. Perhaps, it makes no sense to describe in detail the appearance of the keyboard and the purpose of its individual keys. It is very similar to the usual PC or laptop keyboard. Unless there are several separate buttons that are responsible for invoking the emoji panel, pasting an item from the clipboard, switching to handwriting mode and hiding the virtual keyboard.

Swype keyboard lets you type without lifting your finger from the screen. To do this, you need to touch the first letter of the word and simply move your finger to the next letter. After typing the word, insert a space and continue typing further.

Often when typing, it becomes necessary to copy, cut and paste part of it to another place. To do this, in the tablet it is enough to select the required section of the text, select the "Copy" or "Cut" item, move the cursor to another place in the text and touch the "Paste" icon that appears.

Data transfer

Built in tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Wi-Fi module supports 802.11 a / b / g / n standards. You can enable this function through the menu item "Settings" - "Wi-Fi". The device will automatically search for available Wi-Fi hotspots. Then everything is simple: select the one you need, enter the password, select the "Connect" item.

In addition to connecting your tablet to the Internet, Wi-Fi can be used to connect two devices to each other without using an access point (called Wi-Fi Direct). To do this, select the "Advanced" - "Wi-Fi Direct" item in the settings, drag the slider to the "On" position and press the "Search" button. In the list of detected devices, select the required one and wait until the owner of the other device accepts the request.

AllShare, based on DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) technology, allows you to share media files with other devices that support the same service. It is very easy to play a file on another device. To do this, just select the AllShare item in the list of applications, then select the "My device" item, then the media category (file) and, finally, the player in which you want to play the selected file. It is just as easy to play files from other devices on your tablet.

Transferring files using Bluetooth on your tablet is simple and straightforward. In the settings, turn on the "Bluetooth" option, make simple manipulations to find and connect compatible devices, and you can transfer and receive files and data. In addition, Bluetooth can be used to access a mobile network connection.

With a USB cable, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can be connected to a PC or laptop as an external removable disk (MTP media device) or as a camera (PTP). In the first case, you can freely exchange multimedia files, in the second, you can exchange photos using the camera software, as well as transfer files that do not support MTP to your PC.

Calls and messages

Of course, using a tablet (even one as small as the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus) as a phone is not very convenient. However, this option is provided. The "Phone" application interface is standard for the Android operating system and does not need a special description.

For each contact, you can assign several phone numbers, write down an e-mail address, nickname, place of work, etc., as well as set a picture and a ringtone, define a group. You can put your frequently called contacts in a separate Favorites group. The list of contacts is displayed as follows: on the left - the actual list with a list of names and a small picture of the contact, on the right - more detailed information about the selected contact. The same picture is in the list of messages: on the left - contacts with whom conversations took place, on the right - a list of messages in each separate conversation with a specific subscriber.

For the Messages application, you can customize the background color as well as the style of the message box. The tablet supports the use of both sms and mms messages, as well as voice mail messages.

Email

To work with email, you need to set up an account. To do this, select the "E-mail" item in the list of applications, enter your email address and password, and then follow the instructions that appear on the tablet screen. Sending an e-mail is very simple: you just need to select a recipient (for example, from your contact list or manually enter an address), enter the subject of the message and the actual text. You can use file transfer in e-mails. If the tablet is offline or out of range, the message will be sent as soon as the device connects to the Internet or detects a mobile Internet connection.

The Social Hub function allows you to collect in one place messages from contacts from different mail services, instant messengers and social networks. Here you can instantly receive notifications about new letters, messages and changes that have occurred in social networks. Using Samsung Social Hub does not require you to specifically open other applications in order to keep abreast of everything that is happening - all the activity of friends is collected in one application.

Multimedia

There are two cameras installed. The main one has a 3-megapixel matrix, the front one - 2 megapixels. The main camera is equipped with LED flash and autofocus. There is no physical button for calling the camera, it can be activated from the list of applications in the main menu. If the device is not used for some time, the camera turns off automatically. Photos are taken in portrait or landscape mode. Depending on the shooting conditions, you can manually turn the flash on or off, or set the camera to use the flash automatically.

Several shortcuts are displayed in the camera viewfinder window: change flash settings, switch to the front camera lens, change shooting mode (smile detection, panorama, motion snapshot, and cartoon for stills; normal, MMS limitation, e-mail limitation for video shooting ), setting the time delay before shooting, adjusting the exposure value to change the brightness; change camera settings, view the storage location for files, switch to video recording mode, take a picture, and view the pictures you have taken.

In the gallery of captured snapshots, images and videos can be viewed, deleted, edited, sent to friends or printed.

The built-in photo editor allows you to rotate, resize or crop, apply a color effect or filter.

Music and video

The tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus can be used to listen to music. Music files can be downloaded to the device memory in several ways: from the Internet, from a PC using Samsung Kies or Windows Media Player, received via Bluetooth, or copied to a memory card. The music player can be accessed through the "Music" item in the application list. All music files are grouped by album, artist, genre, composer, folder, year, etc. During playback of a track, the display shows the album art, artist name, slider for adjusting the volume of the sound and file duration, the mute button, the button for turning on the file shuffle mode, etc.

The video player window also displays several icons: adjusting the audio volume, changing the aspect ratio, mute the sound, skip forward or backward slider, pause / play button, navigate to the video player options, watch the video on another DLNA-enabled device, select a sound effect, insert bookmarks.

the Internet

The built-in browser has a very familiar and user-friendly interface. There is an address bar, forward and back buttons, refresh, search, add to favorites, bookmarks. In a browser, you can open multiple tabs and navigate between them with a swipe of your finger. In the page settings, you can choose the color and size of the font and background of the page. For faster navigation, you can use the page search function. To save the current web page for offline reading, all you have to do is enter your browser options and select the "Save for offline reading" option. In general, we can say that the browser in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is quite good, it is fast and really convenient.

Google Play App Store

Almost always, mobile device users are not satisfied with just the applications and games preinstalled in their gadgets. Everyone strives to customize their devices for themselves and for this they load various programs, games, widgets into the device. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, like other Android devices, uses the Google Play online store, which makes purchasing mobile apps quick and easy. In the store, all applications are categorized, so it won't be difficult to find what you are interested in. The found program or game can be easily downloaded to the device, the installation of the application will begin immediately after downloading.

Of course, the store has both free and paid offers. The choice is always yours.

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is preinstalled with an application for watching and downloading videos using the YouTube service. Controlling the player is straightforward: the familiar buttons for pause / resume playback, skip forward and backward within the file are used here, and, of course, the recording playback icon in full screen. To upload your own video, you need to link your Google account with YouTube and then add the video you want.

Navigation

The navigation service in the tablet is represented by the Google Maps service, which is used to determine its location on the map, search for various places and to get directions, as well as the navigator itself, i.e. receiving voice guidance on routes. In the list of applications there is a "Maps" item, which opens access to the Google Maps service. Maps have pedestrian, car navigation and public transport modes. Maps can be used without an internet connection. When displaying maps, you can use several layers: traffic jams, satellite, attractions, gas stations, ATMs and banks, restaurants.

And in this review we will look at the younger model of this family - Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), which has a 7-inch display, but the differences between the two tablets do not end there. So, first things first.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is very similar to its predecessor, the P1000 in the Galaxy Tab line. But it is worth noting that the thickness has decreased, now it is only 10.5 mm, and the surface has turned from a smooth gloss into a matte gray plastic. The height and width of the device are 193.7x122.4 mm, and the weight is only 344 grams. Despite the relative lightness of the device, it is very convenient to hold it in hand.

On the front side there is a touchscreen display, and on the back side there is a camera “eye”.

The assembly is done at the proper level - there are no backlashes and creaks during operation.

Performance, operating system and applications

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), like the 10.1-inch model, is powered by a TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor, clocked at 1 GHz. RAM is provided with 1 GB, and built-in flash memory - 8, 16 or 32 GB, depending on the modification. This parameter can be increased, as there is a dedicated slot for microSD memory cards with a maximum capacity of 32 GB. Taken together, these parameters give a sufficiently high performance that can satisfy almost any, the most demanding user.

The tablet is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with an integrated TouchWiz shell.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) has a standard set of applications: audio and video players, browser, e-mail client.

Of the communication capabilities, the gadget supports the operation of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth3.0, GPS, GLONASS modules, and, depending on the modification, may or may not have a 3G module.

Screen

The tablet is equipped with a 7-inch PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. This device differs for the worse from the Galaxy Tab 2 with a 10.1-inch display, where the resolution is 1280x800 pixels.

The viewing angles of the gadget are excellent, fading in the sun is not very strong. It should be noted that the image on the display is quite bright and of high quality.

The screen has a protective Gorilla Glass coating.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) has a 3.1-megapixel camera that allows you to shoot at a maximum resolution of 2948x1536 pixels, with autofocus function. Video recording can be carried out in Full HD format at 30 frames / second.

There is a front 0.3-megapixel camera for video telephony.

Battery

The LI-Ion battery in the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), unlike the older 10.1-inch model, has a capacity of only 4000 mAh, so the device will last for a maximum of 5-7 hours with average intensive work.

Price

Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) video review:

In recent years, IFA has become the place where Samsung presents all its new products. And this time the company has opened a new stage in its history, which cannot but worry us. SuperAMOLED screens have become one of the most important discoveries in the history of smartphones, and now they are moving to mobile computers. Meet the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 review. with a detailed description of the appearance, compare the characteristics of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with other models in this line.

As the name implies, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes with a treasure of the 7.7-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display. This tablet is evidence that the mobile computing industry is progressing at an impressive pace. In a single year, Samsung has more than doubled the speed of its processors and introduced superior display technology to mainstream production, while at the same time achieving a thickness reduction of about three times.

We not only get Super AMOLED Plus instead of the usual LCD, but also a larger screen size with a higher resolution in a body that does not add to the size. Plus, inside a new version of the Android 3.0 system, specially developed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablets, is sewn inside, replacing Gingerbread, while working with which the feeling of a huge phone does not disappear.

All of these characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 show that Samsung is a fast learner. In the fast growing tablet market, nothing can be achieved by being just as good as everyone else - you have to be the best. And what could be more compelling than the combination of the most powerful mobile chipset, impressive screen and slim body?

Design and display

The fact that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has the thinnest body profile and the most harmonious proportions between the thickness of the bezel and the screen size of any competitor tells us that the design is worth praising. But the strengths do not end there - there is also a black metallic color, bizarrely curved lines and the absence of buttons on the front panel - all this gives a feeling of unique high-tech.

Thus, we can state that the description of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 clearly indicates the embodiment of technology that we only saw this year. And one more undoubtedly positive thing is that when you hold a gadget in your hands, you understand - its class suggests - coolness is valued higher than practicality.

However, for all the superlatives it deserves, the Galaxy Tab 7.7's design will not be a key selling point. The 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with WXGA resolution is more suitable for the role of the key factor.

If you're still not impressed, then it's worth noting that the Galaxy Tab 7.7's screen has the highest pixel density of any tablet at all, at 196 ppi. For comparison, the 7 ″ Galaxy Tab has 169 ppi, the Xoom's LCD screen has a density of 149 ppi, and the iPad display does not boast a pixel density at all - just 132 ppi. Note that smaller tablets need a higher density for the screen to be readable at close range, so the 7.7 ″ screen is the clearest of all competitors.

And then there's the stunning picture quality that Super AMOLED Plus showcases. With AMOLED technology, blacks are as deep as possible by turning off individual groups of pixels, which is impossible in an LCD, where the entire panel is backlit throughout the entire time during operation.

The viewing angles of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 display are simply impressive, especially if you look at the icons at an angle - they seem to be drawn on the top glass, they do not distort or stretch at all. Of course, color distortion occurs at extreme angles (if we are talking about angles close to 180 degrees), but this is the worst thing that can be said about this display. None of the competing devices even come close to such characteristics.

Finally, since Super AMOLED Plus displays are virtually non-reflective, you don't have to worry about losing picture quality in bright light. Sun clarity issues are also absent - a first for a tablet.

Until now, tablets have used screens that are far inferior in quality than high-end smartphones. The iPad couldn't compete with the iPhone, the Xoom's screen is no match for the Milestone LCD, and even Samsung's own screens on the Galaxy Tab are not as good as on the Galaxy S smartphones. And in the case of the Galaxy Tab 7.7, we see that the trend has changed.

The rest of the body Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

When we were finally able to tear our eyes away from the beautiful display of the Galaxy Tab 7.7, we noticed that the tablet, like the rest of the Honeycomb devices, was equipped with only two hardware controllers. All internal navigation is done from the screen, so the hardware buttons on the front are meaningless. All there is is a headphone jack and a video calling camera.

Unlike the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 works in portrait mode by default. This way, when you hold the computer with the headphone output at the top, the Samsung logo can be read without tilting your head. Of course, you are free to use the tablet in any orientation mode, but we held it that way, describing all the subsequent functionality.

At the bottom are stereo speakers, a microphone, and the original Samsung port, used to recharge the Galaxy Tab 7.7, connect it to a computer, or provide HD TV out. Once again, we don't have a standard microUSB connector at our disposal, and to be honest, we are starting to lose hope that its presence will ever return to normal.

On the top of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is another microphone hole and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the left there is a slot for microSD and another one for SIM. Since Android Honeycomb resolves all microSD card issues, you can now use this slot to expand the internal 16GB storage by another 32GB, which is cheaper than buying the 48GB version of the device.

On the right panel of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 there are only two hardware buttons - the volume control and the power button, it also serves to lock the screen. An infrared port is installed under them, which can be used as a conservative method of communication and control. We don't see the real benefit of using an infrared port on a tablet, but obviously Samsung is thinking about some special applications for it. And in general, its presence does not spoil anything, does it?

We finished our inspection on the back, where the 3.15MP camera is located, with the ability to record 720p video. Tablets are hardly the most convenient devices for taking photos (even if we are talking about the rather compact Galaxy Tab 7.7), so the camera is more an accessory here than a full-featured option. That is why we see no reason to dwell on its specifications - it is good enough for the needs of most users.

Under the cover is a 5100 mAh battery, which will be able to power the device at least for a day under average loads. Nothing remarkable can be said about her. It cannot be removed, but this is normal for tablets today.

Overall, the tablet feels like a very good build. And only by taking it in your hands, you can feel how thin it is.

Although we haven't used the tablet for too long, we haven't noticed any details that look cheap or out of place. Now let's review the software.

User interface

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 runs the latest revision of the Android tablet platform, Honeycomb 3.2. Samsung has also equipped its gadget with a special TouchWiz UI.

In theory, this could mean that the user should be in the same environment as on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. In practice, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 performs much better, and it immediately becomes clear that Honeycomb 3.2 offers much better performance.

The only argument we would like to make against Honeycomb is the noticeable performance degradation with many AndroidMarket applications. We know that they are most likely not optimized for tablets, but if they work fine on WVGA smartphones with single-core 1GHz processors, it would be nice if they worked at least as well on dual-core chipsets, despite the increase in resolution. And that's exactly how things are on the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Perhaps the Exynos chipset with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor is the reason for this, but we tend to boil it down to overdue optimization.

To the extent that you are interested in convenience and simplicity - Honeycomb will not provide subjects for complaints. Designed from the ground up for tablets, the platform provides apps with navigation buttons in the user interface in the lower left corner of the screen - back, home and a task manager (plus a screenshot button for TouchWiz), a search shortcut in the upper left corner, the apps menu in top right corner and last but not least is the quick settings and notification settings area (again thanks to touchWiz) in the bottom right corner.

Home window editing works as usual. Perfectly redesigned to work with a larger screen, the environment gives you five full-fledged desktops with four tools - widgets, applications, wallpapers and more.

Thus, you can pull out the widget from the bottom panel and drag it to the desired place on any of the desktops. On smartphones, you had to rewind desktops if you wanted to move a widget from one to another.

Unfortunately, unlike most Android smartphones, tablets don't have an option to adjust the number of desktops. Five pieces may be good for someone, but if you don't need that much, they only slow down navigation, and if you need more, there is no way to get beyond this amount.

Another nice touch in TouchWiz is the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which is no longer static. It slides up and reveals seven labels. Clicking on any of them opens a widget that you are free to move around the screen.

All shortcuts hidden on the taskbar are links to Samsung's own apps. Their list includes a regular task manager, world clock, PenMemo (note taking) app, calendar, calculator, music player and phone app. All of them, with the exception of the task manager and phone, are links to the corresponding full-size applications. In most cases, the functionality of these applications is overlapped by other access methods, so you do not have to use this panel often.

The application menu is quite ordinary, here you operate in two sections - All and My applications. The first one contains all the available applications, and the second one contains only those that you installed. If you press and hold your finger on one of the icons, you will cause the appearance of five desktops to place a shortcut on any of them.

Samsung has also added a few apps to the Galaxy Tab 7.7 preset package. With this tablet you will get a native video player, file manager, document editor and ebook application (reading books) - all of which are very necessary, and it is gratifying that the Korean developers have taken care of the clients.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 first impressions reviews

Tablets sell very well, not because they are as productive as computers - but because they are more fun to use. And the “fun to use” label goes very well with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. and reviews - it is nimble, it looks cool and has an amazing screen.

Honeycomb was created to provide the most functionality to tablet interfaces, but its performance has long left much to be desired. Now, the problems seem to be solved, and Google's tablet platform seems poised to be the best.

The only thing that remains unknown is the price. If Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 does not break the $ 600 barrier at the beginning of sales, then it is likely to be a success in Russia - Super AMOLED Plus alone makes the device one of the best, and the powerful chipset and thin body are great bonuses.

We hope that Samsung will do its best and will deliver the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet to the Russian market in the near future. Competition is very tough these days and today's super-device can be downgraded in rank and quality assessment in some half a year after release - it will be very unpleasant if such a story happens with such a tidbit of technology as the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
