Review HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c - press harvester for consumer needs

Manufacturers of inkjet MFPs for the most part focus on those who do not need huge functionality, but do not mind - just in case - to have it at hand. You may never use the built-in card reader or fax in your life, but the very realization that they are always ready is worth a lot: two thousand rubles - for sure. A clear confirmation of this is the hero of our next review - a print harvester with the ability to connect to the Internet HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c.

History of creation. A quick overview of Internet capabilities

Central view

HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410 (we got our hands on the third revision MFP - HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c) replaced the modest but functional workaholic Photosmart Premium C309. It happened in the fall of last year and became a kind of regression. Yes, the device was repainted from boring office light gray to trendy black, added gloss, taught how to connect to the Internet and print all sorts of funny things from there, but part of the basic functionality was abolished: unlike its predecessor, the HP C410c cannot print on CDs.

From now on, HP marketers are focusing not so much on comprehensive functionality (but they can boast of a home photographic MFP with a full set of office modules - fax, duplex and automatic document feeder ADF), as on revolutionary manufacturability. We are talking in particular about broad Internet opportunities. Briefly about them.

EPrint technology allows you to send documents for printing from any device connected to the Internet via e-mail (relevant for mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, tablets, as well as PCs running an OS that are not officially supported: for example, GNU / Linux). Each ePrint-enabled printer or MFP is assigned an individual e-mail address to which emails with attachments should be sent (up to 10 attachments up to 5 MB in total). The total protection against spam, alas, led to the fact that the service works somehow: out of 10 letters we sent to print, the HP C410c received only 8. And we also used Gmail, which is officially supported. There is not a word about the support of Yandex.Mail and Mail.Ru, popular in Russia, on the official website. However, the service is slowly but surely getting better and more reliable (judging by the fact that there are fewer complaints about its work on the support forum), and there is no reason to be afraid of spam (which, if it breaks through the defense barriers, will be immediately printed), there is no reason, because there is support " white and black lists of e-mail addresses.

Print Apps are small widgets that need to be installed directly on the printing device itself. Most of them are designed for viewing and printing photos from social networks and media storages, automatically printing the latest news and posts from popular blogs, maps of the area, children's coloring books and puzzles. At the time of publication of this review, AOL Kids, a program for printing children's coloring books, has grabbed the palm in the ranking of the most popular printing applications. Print apps are free (the official FAQ states that they are only free for now, so this may change in the future).

The HP C410c also supports Airprint technology, which is of interest primarily to owners of Apple mobile equipment and provides simple printing of documents and photos from Apple devices via Wi-Fi.

Cost. Competition analysis.

Card reader

According to Yandex.Market (region: St. Petersburg), the Russian price of the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c was 7200 rubles at the time of publication of this review. This is 2,000 rubles more expensive than the younger model HP Photosmart Premium C310, which is completely identical in print terms to the C410c, but loses well in the optical resolution of the scanner (1200 dpi versus 4800 dpi), and is also not equipped with a fax and ADF. They ask for this, in general, a rather big set of improvements and additional functions a little, but whether all this is really necessary for a home, and not an office user - that is another question.

HP C410c has few direct competitors and they are all from the upper echelons of the Epson photo device lineup: Epson Stylus Photo TX800FW (13,300 rubles) and Epson Stylus Photo PX820FWD (12,700 rubles). Their main advantages are more colors (6 versus 5) and support for printing on CDs, and their disadvantages are lower print resolution (5760x1440 dpi versus 9600x2400 dpi), which is absent in one of the duplex models and, of course, the price (hero this review is almost half the price).

Among the competitors of a slightly different sense (not photographic, but similar in functionality), only the HP Officejet Pro 8500A (7200 rubles) and Epson Stylus Office BX625FWD (8800 rubles) stand out. But you can consider them as an alternative to the hero of this review only if you are not picky about the quality of photo printing: office devices, as a rule, give out at best pictures of acceptable quality, but in no way comparable with those printed in a photo studio (and photo centers this daunting task of compliance is usually handled.)

Let's summarize. We have to admit that today there are simply no devices that could compete on equal terms with the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c. This is due not only to the merits of our hero (of which, I must say, there are many), but also to his strange positioning. The HP C410c is a photo center for modern Plyushkin: all the functions that can fit into an MFP are collected in one device. In such cases, they say: "He probably doesn't make coffee." Epson has similar models, but there is no rivalry: both of them are almost twice as expensive, while practically no better.

Appearance

Control Panel

ADF top tray

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c looks great until you start using it. And the abundance of gloss is to blame: HP designers presented a massive scanner cover, control panel and a good part of the front panel of the MFP with a soiled coating. Yes, the shine gives the device a special charm at first, but it loses its freshness catastrophically quickly. Well, the problem lies only in fingerprints (although it is a dubious pleasure to be on duty with a soft cloth), but the HP C410c is also very easily scratched, and scratches, alas, cannot be erased with a cloth.

This impracticality is justified only by the strength of the body. HP C410c is made of thick plastic and conscientiously. The panels are precisely fitted, the gaps are minimal, the construction does not creak or play anywhere. The case design is boring, and HP did not bother to visually smooth out the impressive dimensions of the device (for example, they did it brilliantly in the HP Officejet 7500A).

The ADF module is located on the cover of the scanner, which makes the cover itself heavy. There are no intermediate fixation positions, but the connecting loops are quite tight, and therefore hold it in almost any position. The hinges cannot be lifted, which makes it difficult to scan thick originals (magazines, books).

The control panel is push-button, intuitive, reminiscent of that of the Epson Stylus Office BX625FWD. Separately, we note that the device is Russified up to the captions for the buttons. The tilt angle of the panel is fixed, however the LCD on the left side of the panel can be tilted to a convenient angle for the user. The diagonal of the screen is 6.1 cm. This is quite enough for managing the MFP, but for some printing applications (those related to viewing photos) it is not enough. A card reader is located next to the control panel. Photo enthusiasts will appreciate the support for CF memory cards.

Trays - Traditional HP Photosmart design. Both are horizontal, occupy the bottom of the MFP, protrude well beyond the case (which complicates the already difficult transportation: the HP C410c weighs almost 10 kg). The capacity of the input tray is 125 sheets of plain office paper and 20 sheets of photo paper (separate compartment). The output tray only holds 50 sheets.

On the back side of the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c there was a place for a duplex unit and connectors for connecting an MFP to the electrical, local and World Wide Web, as well as USB 2.0 for direct connection to a PC. In addition, the device is equipped with support for the wireless interface Wi-Fi.

Let's summarize. Photosmart Premium Fax C410c leaves a pleasant impression, although it does not shine with special finesse. Gloss-obsessed designers dealt a heavy blow to its practicality, but otherwise it is a rather comfortable (control panel) and sturdy (high-quality thick plastic) MFP.

Technical capabilities of the printer, scanner, fax

Control panel without cover

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c Printing System is completely identical to that of the HP C310b: the same five cartridges (black, cyan, magenta, yellow, photo black), the same two types of HP Vivera inks (pigment for the black cartridge, water soluble - for all the rest), the same volume of ink drop (up to 1.3 pl - for cartridges with water-soluble ink, 14 pl - with pigment ink). This printing system has already proven itself well.

The manufacturer promises not only high quality document and photo printing, but also impressive speed: 34 and 32 A4 pages per minute for monochrome and color prints, respectively, in draft quality mode, 10.5 and 7.5 pages per minute - in laser quality mode. The device supposedly copes with a 10x15 cm photo in no longer than 17 seconds.

The CIS contact scanner has a huge optical resolution of 4800 dpi. This is enough not only for a simple home user, but also for a photographer or designer working from home. Scanning multi-page documents greatly simplifies the ADF. The MFP can scan directly to a memory card without having to connect it to a PC.

The facsimile module is no different from that in other MFPs of a similar class. It can store up to 90 A4 pages in internal memory and up to 90 numbers in an address book. It is easy to manage contacts thanks to the LCD display.

Let's summarize. We have already met the technical solutions presented in the HP C410c when testing the HP Photosmart Premium C310b photographic MFP. Then we were satisfied and made sure that high-quality photo printing is possible with 4 cartridges (a black cartridge with pigment ink is not involved in photo printing). We hope this photo center will not disappoint us.

ADF Mechanism

To assess the quality and speed of document and photo printing, we used:

The HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c is a truly versatile device. It provides excellent quality not only for photographic but also documentary printing. You can find fault only with the draft mode: there are printing defects in text documents (slight displacement of characters), a slight graininess is noticeable in the photo. In the modes of standard and best quality, the MFP performs well. The level of color rendering is in no way inferior to competitors from Epson, and the text is distinguishable up to 3 point size.

Print speed is acceptable, although not as promised in draft mode. For monochrome documents, it is 17 and 10 pages per minute (respectively, in draft and laser quality), for color - 15 and 7 pages per minute. Printing a 10x15 cm photo in draft mode takes 30 seconds, and in best quality mode - 73 seconds. In order for the MFP to produce an A4-size picture, it will take 88 and 182 seconds, respectively, in draft mode and best quality.

The quality of scanning raises no objections. The colors of the resulting images are as rich and vibrant as the colors of the originals. The 4800 dpi resolution is enough for any needs of an ordinary user, photographer (of course, in the context of CIS technology), designer.

Let's summarize. As expected, testing confirmed that the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c is an excellent MFP that fully meets the needs of the modern user. High quality printing, scanning, high speed - everything with it.

Conclusion

Inkjet MFP manufacturers appeal to vices. Such is the marketing ploy. Quite effective, admittedly. Obsessed with money-grubbing, they say, what if suddenly sometime one or another function is needed (despite the fact that there was no need for it before), a person buys more and more universal MFPs. The hero of today's review is one of them. But it's not just a device packed with features. This is a high class photo center. Functional, providing excellent print and scan quality, convenient, let's not be afraid of these words, technically and functionally thought out. If you are looking for a press for all occasions, the HP Photosmart Premium Fax C410c is a great choice.

  • excellent quality of document and photo printing, scanning;
  • an abundance of additional functions (duplex printing, automatic filing of documents for scanning, fax, card reader);
  • low price.
  • impractical due to the glossy finish of many surfaces.

Refilling instructions for HP410A / X (CF413A / X, CF412A / X, CF411A / X, CF410A / X) cartridges for HP Color LaserJet M452, M477 printers

In 2015, Hewlett-Packard introduced a novelty of updated printers HP Color LaserJet M452, M477... These printers use new generation cartridges with multiple refill protection: HP # 410A - cartridges of standard capacity,; and HP No. 410X - increased capacity CF410X, CF411X, CF412X, CF413X.

The cartridges are formulated with chemical technology to ensure excellent print quality.

In this article, we will review the HP 410A cartridge protection levels.

  1. The first thing that catches your eye when disassembling the cartridge is the one-piece seams. There are no usual screws, fastening pins on the side covers, only whole plastic. Sonic soldering of seams is the first degree of protection. On one of the side covers (on the opposite side from the chip) there is a spring that holds the cartridge compartments. You must carefully remove this spring.
  2. After removing the spring, remove the side cover itself. The usual cartridge design uses internal teeth, but you will not find teeth here. The cover will have to be broken. But do not be afraid, break it in a strictly defined place with a flat screwdriver and gently slide the lid, applying force, until the seam disperses.
  3. When the cap is removed, you can split the cartridge into 2 parts.
  4. Remove the photo barrel and primary charge roller one after the other when you disassemble the waste toner box.
  5. Remove the cleaning blade to expose the waste toner compartment.
  6. Remove waste toner. Please note that there is a thin line of silicone sealant inside, it is needed so that the waste does not get out of the compartment. Something similar could be found in the design of the series cartridges. And in cartridges, for example HP 125A, 126A, 128A and even the HP Pro 200 series used foam and felt instead of silicone. Silicone is more reliable in terms of protection. Initially, the silicone is blue, but upon contact with toner, it will become the corresponding color. If you rinse it with an alcohol-based liquid, it will turn blue again.
  7. Having finished all the manipulations with the mining compartment, collect it and put it aside. It must be assembled in the reverse order, i.e. blade, charge shaft and fotoval.
  8. We disassemble the toner compartment. Here again you will not see screws, the plastic is solid. In previous models, there was a contact plate with copper conductive elements in this place.
  9. There are a couple of screws on the opposite side, unscrew them and remove the black protective plate on the side where the gears are.
  10. The plate protects several gears, one of them is assembled (you can see parts of it in the photo below). We remove the assembled gear, the intermediate white guide and two gears under it - a large and a small one.

11. Remove the developer roller. Then remove the metering blade. After that, you will see another layer of protection from manufacturers.

ATTENTION!

The screws that secure the blade have a versatile thread: one screw is right-handed, the other is left-hand. If you twist them in one direction with a screwdriver, you can break the thread, be extremely careful and attentive!

Under the dispensing blade, you will again see the silicone sealant, which is the same color as the toner it came into contact with. And if you wipe it, you will see that it is blue. Also under the blade you will see the foam toner roller located there, do not remove it. This roller is connected directly to the toner hopper, inside which you will see a transparent hard film in the form of a curtain. This film is actually a receipt, in ordinary cartridges it is designed to separate the toner from the magnetic roller, and it is torn off before using a new cartridge, but the case with the HP 410 cartridge is an exception, nothing needs to be torn off, you cannot just do it ... It is designed in such a way that after the first start of a new cartridge it turns into a toner stirring tool in the hopper before feeding it to the foam roller and developing roller. This is the innovation and method of protection in the HP 410 cartridge, the film is needed to protect against toner from entering the hopper, simply preventing the toner from falling into the compartment.

12. Place toner under the shutter, first scrolling to a comfortable position. There is no other way to get to the bunker. You will be convinced of this when you see that there are simply no plugs, wide holes for filling toner. We fill in the toner for a long time and patiently using a watering can with a narrow spout. For refueling we use production toner Static Control Components Odyssey® Series Multi-Purpose Toner Color or Toner HP Color LJ CP 2025 / CM 2320 (fl, 100 Chemical TMC027 IMEX) Silver ATM Toner for series HP Color LaserJet M452, M477 while in development.

13. We collect the compartment. We put the metering blade and the development shaft back in place, fasten them with screws, not forgetting about the different threads. Install the hooked shaft sleeve (white) correctly. Install the gears and the intermediate guide one by one. Then, the assembly gear (do not disassemble it, on the contrary, make sure that it does not fall apart), we fix it with a black guide and two screws.

14. Next, we connect both compartments of the cartridge. To do this, you need to do a little trick, the slit (on the left) and the hook (on the right) should tend to each other at the moment of joining the two parts of the cartridge. We close the halves of the cartridge with a side cover, the same one that you broke at the beginning. There are no screws. What do you ask? Fix the break with a drop of adhesive plastic.

15. Return the spring to its place, it is convenient to do this with a knife or flat screwdriver.

16. Now let's replace the chip. Here, too, you will see a small refueling protection. The chip is in its seat, which is blocked by a partition. You will need to cut this septum.

17. Install a new chip (some manufacturers have made an adhesive backing to keep the chip firmly in place). Chips price very high, significantly more than ALL previous HP printers.

The cartridge is filled and ready to serve you again.

Let's take a look at the slightly replaceable parts in the HP 410A (410X) cartridges. They are not on sale yet, but they are in development. None of the commonly replaced parts - OPC drum, primary charge roller, metering blade, toner transfer roller - are similar to the parts from previous models. More or less, only the wiper blade is visually similar to the blade in the HP Pro 200 M251 / CP1415 / CP1215 color cartridge series, although not identical.
