Overclocking a geforce gtx 1070 card. Comparison of video cards from different manufacturers

Alexander Markov

With the growing popularity of mining, all video cards began to be evaluated not only in terms of performance in games, but also in the production of cryptocurrencies. For a long time, the GeForce GTX 1070 video card was considered one of the best solutions for mining, but the increase in prices has significantly changed all priorities. How did this affect the GTX 1070, what can you expect from this graphics card and should you consider it as a basis for solo mining or setting up a farm in 2018?

Let's take a closer look at the issue, taking into account tests, current prices, conditions and other factors.

Main characteristics

To assess the potential of a map in a sphere, it is not enough to choose one criterion. Any ratings and tables consist of a combination of factors that show its effectiveness. These include:

  • amount of video memory;
  • tire width;
  • cooling system (including ambient temperature);
  • overclocking potential;
  • power limit;
  • memory speed;
  • energy consumption.

Also, the hashrate can be influenced by the overall configuration of the hardware (only with greatly lagging components), as well as the OS and driver versions. Often, it is after installing new drivers or updating the system that the hash rate is significantly reduced, which is why it is necessary to roll back the drivers (for a video card) or install another OS.

Speaking specifically about the GTX 1070 from different vendors, the video memory manufacturer will play a significant role. It is worth remembering that due to the better overclocking potential, which directly affects the hash rate of the video card, the memory from Samsung will always be in priority. The Micron's memory, unfortunately, does not stand up to the competition and is considered worse.

For comparison, if we take Ethereum as an example, the average for most video cards (except for factory extra-overclocking and top-versions) GTX 1070 will be at 26.0-28.5 MHS / sec. At maximum overclocking, all cards with Samsung memory are easily brought up to 31.2–32.3 MHS / sec. Micron memory cards usually perform at 30.5-30.90 MHS / sec, except in rare cases when there are samples with good overclocking potential.

When it comes to a farm, cooling and technical organization will be added to the main evaluation criteria.

Choosing the best manufacturer for GeForce GTX 1070

If you already have a video card and you decide to test it in mining, then it is hardly relevant to talk about choosing a manufacturer. If you are potentially considering a purchase with mining in mind, or even collecting, it is important to know about the capabilities of the GeForce GTX 1070.

It should be noted that due to the strong rise in prices, the choice of the manufacturer can play a large role and often the initial price of the video card will be a more weighty argument than the maximum hash rate.

Let's give as an example a table of the most successful video cards, excluding their initial cost. In this case, we are talking only about hashrate and technical characteristics (overclocking, temperature, etc.). In the example, Ethereum and Zcash are selected.

Video cardCoreMemoryTemperatureZECETH
Gigabyte windforce150 600 62 500 31.5
Gigabyte g180 900 59 500 33.3
Palit super jetstream100 850 54 510 31.5
Asus Dual100 600 58 475 31
MSI Gaming X100 600 57 500 31

These are not the only cards that deserve attention, but if we evaluate the most successful GTX 1070 instances for mining, then all the tests highlight these particular models.

Now what is not worth choosing if you initially buy a card for mining. The first and most obvious exception is the reference 1070 models. Despite the fact that they can run pretty well, they always lose in cooling. For example, the reference GTX 1070 has an average operating temperature when overclocked to 72 degrees, and this is at 25-27 degrees indoors. Obviously, this is not the best solution for the long term.

The second criterion can be called conditional. It doesn't really affect the mining and potential hashrate of the GTX 1070, but it still carries some weight. This is a cooling system. It is better that the cooling system blows not only the chip itself, but also the power circuit. Nevertheless, this is mainly implemented in cards that are distinguished by a higher cost, therefore this condition must be treated taking into account the price of the video card.

In general, if we talk about vendors, then all of them, plus or minus, have excellent solutions for mining. MSI has a Gaming version, Gigabyte has Windforce, G1 and the premium Aorus series. Asus has a look at the Dual and Strix. The latter is ahead of Dual due to better cooling and lower temperature (a difference of 6 degrees), but it costs more. Among Palit, JetStream and GameRock take the lead.

Which cryptocurrency is better to mine

The question of the relevance of altcoin mining has long ceased to be calculated exclusively in the maximum profit. This is important to take into account, since the standard schemes for choosing top positions in the table are not considered the most profitable. You need to understand that fluctuations in the exchange rate for one and the other currencies have a much greater impact, therefore, you need to assess the potential in mining based on:

  • a specific video card and its characteristics;
  • current market rate;
  • additional factors that affect the value of the cryptocurrency.

If we consider the most potential algorithms for mining on the GeForce GTX 1070, then the following priorities should be highlighted:

  1. Equihash - 435.21 Sol / s.
  2. Lyra2REv2 - 39.57 MH / s.
  3. DaggerHashimoto - 28.69 MH / s.

Claymore's Dual Miner is very popular, it is relevant for Ethereum and Decred mining, although it does not show the best results. Speaking of the maximum benefit based on the GTX 1070 itself, the card performs best in Equihash mining.

It is also worth touching on the topic of card payback. Taking into account the fall in the rates of some cryptocurrencies, the total term has grown significantly. Also, the payback rate was strongly influenced by the increased price, which on average rose by 1.5 times.

As a result, for non-top vendor GeForce GTX 1070 cards, ROI could reach 17-19% per month. If we assess the situation for the 2nd quarter of 2018, then in case of mining the most profitable Zcash, the best payback for a video card will be 59% per year. According to forecasts, at the moment, the full cycle for one card "to zero" will take 622 days, which is quite high.

The popularity of the GTX 1070 for the mining and gaming industry has created a significant shortage of cards. This greatly reduced the payback of the card and made it far from the best choice among all possible. For example, with excellent performance of the Gigabyte G1, its cost may outpace other video cards by 4000-6000 rubles.

The same goes for MSI Gaming X, which costs significantly more than many versions. The cards from Asus show themselves well, although the Strix, despite the superior cooling performance, is inferior to the Dual version in overall advantage. Palit cards are probably the most profitable choice. They have incredible memory overclocking potential that works best when mining Zcash.

Conclusion

If we consider the GeForce GTX 1070 for mining in general, then the video card cannot be called the best choice today. It performs slightly better than the GTX 980 Ti. The GTX 1070 has a slightly higher hashrate, but is significantly ahead of the GTX 980 Ti in power consumption, since the latter consumes much more.

With the same results, the GTX 1070 lags behind the GTX 1080, which not only has a significantly higher hash rate, but also uses a lot less power. The difference in performance between the 1070 and 1080 versions is approximately 30%, which again plays against the GTX 1070 for mining.

Overclocking instructions for the GeForce GTX 1070 video card

Standard warning: this manual cannot guarantee 100% system performance. There can be different settings for each processor. All changes you make at your own peril and risk. GreenTech Reviews is not responsible for your actions.

This guide is based on ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card.
The GPU Tweak II utility is used to control the parameters. The latest version can be downloaded from the link: https://www.asus.com/ru/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/.
To check stability, the Unigine Valley benchmark is used, you can download it from the link: http://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/valley/

The first thing to do is to go to the settings (click the gear icon in the upper right corner) and check the box next to the item Overclocking range enhancement... For convenience, you can also mark Apply settings each time GPU Tweak starts.
Apply settings with the button Apply.

Now we return to the main menu and increase the voltage on the GPU - move the slider GPU Voltage to the right to the maximum.
With slider Power target do the same.
Parameter GPU Boost Clock increase by 33 MHz. But Memory Clock increase by 1334. And apply the settings by pressing the button Apply.

Now let's set up the operation of the cooling system. Under Fan Speed push User define and set the settings as in the screenshot:

Now we run Unigine valley and set the maximum settings and resolution. Run the test by pressing a button Benchmark... If you see the message "The driver stopped responding and was stopped" (or similar), then you need to return to the program GPU Tweak II and lower the value GPU Boost... If during testing we noticed artifacts (triangles, flickering points), then we need to reduce the value Memory Clock until such artifacts are found.
Total value GPU Boost Clock will never be fixed. But, as practice shows, all graphic processors must overcome the 2000 MHz line.

The difference in performance without overclocking and with overclocking is approximately the same.
Without overclocking:

It's time for some overclocking of the GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition and running the benchmarks again. This way we will be able to see how the mining power has changed with the increase in the GPU clock frequency. The Founders Edition cards are somewhat limited in the maximum power you can get from them, but the good news is that the GTX 1070 FE uses the same 8-pin PCI-E connector as the 1080. Even though the TDP power limit was reduced to 151W and limits allow only 12% growth over the default TDP settings (169W maximum TDP). There is also a software tool for quickly modifying BIOS video files, but it turned out to be not so easy to change the TDP limits in the BIOS and other settings, such as frequencies and voltage, in order to get some undocumented features from Founders Edition cards.

We already know that the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 GPUs show good overclocking capabilities and you can get good performance out of them if you're not worried about overclocking. We tried out the GTX 1070 Founders Edition card and changed all the settings, except for the core voltage, to the maximum, getting: Voltage + 12%, Core frequency + 210 MHs, Memory frequency + 830 MHs, and these were the maximum settings at which the video card worked stable in round-the-clock mining mode on our test card, the results of which are shown below. Note that the results may differ for each card, and you will have to experiment before finding the optimal performance. It looks like the GTX 1070 FE cards remain quiet despite overclocking.

The performance gains we got from overclocking the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition nearly hit the GTX 1080 FE without overclocking. If we take the increase in performance in terms of hashing power, then it increases by about 12-14% compared to the default settings, and even better results can be achieved with an increase in voltage. However, you have to be careful here to fit into the TDP limits. It is interesting to note that the GTX 1070 FE performs better in the NeoScrypt algorithm (668 KHS by default / 771 KHS after overclocking) than the 1080 FE, but in this respect it outperforms other cards such as the GTX 980 Ti. The slow GDDR5 video memory used here seems to perform better on memory-sensitive algorithms as opposed to the faster GDDR5X memory used in the 1080. However, the GTX 1070 will need additional software to run NeoScrypt. As already, the Pascal GPU, which is installed on GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, when mining Ethereum under Windows shows very low hashing power, so until there is no driver fix, it is better to switch to Linux for mining Ethereum with this card. All the other algorithms we tested work well under Windows 7 and 10, so there is no point in switching to Linux, especially if you have no experience with it.

Despite the systematic increase in the complexity of mining and the growing popularity of ASICs, video cards are still a relevant type of technology in the field of mining cryptocurrencies, albeit not all. In this review, we will try to find out which specific video card from the GeForce GTX 1070 family is best suited for replenishing the stock of electronic coins. So let's get started.

Features of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 board in mining

We will consider this model separately, because it is this model that is most often chosen by cryptocurrency miners. The high popularity can be easily explained. First of all, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 has 8 GB of GDDR5 video memory on board. The actual clock frequency of the board is 1683 MHz, while its power is equal to 150 watts (which makes the model relatively economical in terms of power consumption). Well, the main advantage of the described card is good hash rates (the main parameter that determines the profitability of mining). More precisely, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 produces:

  • almost 27.7 MH / s when working on the Ethash algorithm (Ethereum is mined using it); if you buy a video card with memory from Samsung and overclock the board to the maximum, you can raise productivity up to 32.86 MH / s (but in this case, power consumption will increase to 181 watts);
  • 464.4 Sol / s on the Equihash algorithm (the basis of the Zcash currency);
  • 2.8 GH / s when working on Decred (it produces the cryptocurrency of the same name);
  • almost 280 MH / s on the LBRY algorithm (used for mining LBRY Credits coins);
  • 0.654 MH / s on the NeoScrypt algorithm (it is used to extract assets such as VIVO, Phoenixcoin, Orbitcoin, Innova).
These are the most popular algorithms and coins, when mining which it is important to use the GeForce GTX 1070 from NVIDIA. The only drawback is that the card in question is primarily designed for games. Its gaming status explains not the lowest price - almost 31,600 rubles (when purchased on the official website). As a result, the collection of a farm based on this board will be quite expensive, and the payback will take a long time.

Four high-quality GeForce GTX 1070 video cards from other manufacturers

Models from the following brands will be reviewed here: Zotac, EVGA, ASUS and Gigabyte. In order not to get confused, we will describe the characteristics of each board separately. So:
  1. Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 - model with 8 gigabytes of video memory. Its power is 150 W, which makes the card relatively economical in terms of power consumption. When mining on the Equihash algorithm (on which ZCash is mined), the hashrate of the board is equal to 400 Sol / s. If the miner wants to mine Ether, the card will issue a hash rate in the region of 30.5-31 MH / s. As you can see, the indicators are quite decent. When it comes to price, the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 Mini is not a general-purpose product. In Russia it can be purchased for at least $ 600.
  2. ASUS GeForce GTX 1070. A good model with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory. When mining Ethereum, it will provide a solid hash rate - 31.5 MH / s. The indicator seems to be solid, but there are a couple of nuances: high price (in Russia ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 can be bought for 44,800 rubles) and high power consumption (300 W at maximum load).
  3. EVGA GeForce GTX 1070. A powerful model with 8 GB of memory of the same type of GDDR5. In terms of mining productivity, the board keeps a high rate - 30-31 MH / s on the Ethash algorithm. With regard to power consumption, the GeForce GTX 1070 from EVGA can hardly be called an economical option, although it does not have an exorbitant "gluttony". At its peak, the power of the model reaches 170 watts. This video card costs about $ 900. The price, of course, is rather big, but thanks to the high hash rate and moderate power consumption, the device is popular.
  4. We close our four with a board for 8 GB of GDDR5 video memory. The model has a solid productivity. With a power consumption of 180 watts, it produces almost 32 MH / s on the Ethash algorithm. In addition, the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Ti shows good results on other algorithms: 311 MH / s on Decred, 470 MH / s on Pascal, 450 Sol / s on Equihash. In Russia, this model can be bought for an average of $ 1000.

What other video cards based on the GeForce GTX 1070 can be used in mining?

As in the previous case, we will consider motherboards from 4 manufacturers: MSI, INNO3D, Palit and Gigabyte (only now attention will be paid to the model with the Aorus postmark). Their characteristics will also be painted separately:
  1. MSI GeForce GTX 1070. A model from a very popular brand, which has on board the already familiar 8 GB of video memory. When mining Ethereum, the card gives out a good figure of 31.5 MH / s. The power of the model in question is 150 W, which is not so much. MSI GeForce GTX 1070 is priced at $ 900. Taking into account the gaming focus and high technical characteristics of the video card, the mentioned amount can be called natural. Of course, the cost will negatively affect the payback period, however, with such a hashrate and power consumption, the user should gain profit relatively quickly.
  2. Palit GeForce GTX 1070. In terms of mining capabilities, this board can be considered almost a twin of the previous model. The main characteristics are the same - 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, the power is 150 W. When mining Ether, Palit GeForce GTX 1070 produces 31.2 MH / s. Also, the considered model is suitable for mining Zcash currency. The average hash rate is 513 Sol / s. For the purchase of this video card, you will have to pay about $ 890. Considering hashrate and power, the board should pay for itself relatively quickly.
  3. INNO3D GeForce GTX 1070. Video card with 8 GB memory and 150 watts. Like the previous model, this board is ideal for mining two cryptocurrencies: Ether and Zcash. In the first case, the hash rate reaches 32.5 MH / s. In the second case, the productivity of the board is at 492 Sol / s. The price of the model in question is about 48,990 rubles. The card has a high hash rate and moderate power consumption for cards.
  4. Aorus GeForce GTX 1070. Good graphics card for mining Zcash and Ether from Gigabyte. It has 8GB of GDDR5 memory on board. The power consumption is 150 W. During Zcash mining, the hash rate reaches 510 Sol / s. If you start mining Ethereum coins, the hash rate will be 31 MH / s. The price of this board in Russia is almost 53,000 rubles. In many ways, the technical characteristics of this model justify the price, but because of it, the owner will have to spend a lot of time to recoup the equipment.

Payback time for GeForce GTX 1070 video cards when mining

Here we will try to understand the main thing - after what time interval the video cards will begin to bring their owner a net profit (that is, they will pay off the cash costs for them). The calculation will take place under the following conditions:
  1. For reference, let's take a virtual farm of 6 boards for each model mentioned above.
  2. We will transfer dollars to rubles through the online resource cash.rbc.ru.
  3. Let's take Ethereum mining as an example, as today it is the most popular cryptocurrency mined on video cards.
  4. Ether rate - $ 732.12 per coin.
  5. We will calculate the productivity of farms using a calculator on the nicehash.com service. On this site, we are interested in the DAGGER HASHIMOTO algorithm (the previous name for the Ethash algorithm).
  6. To calculate the net monthly profit, let's take the electricity tariff in Moscow, set for residential buildings with gas stoves. It is 5.38 rubles / kWh.
  7. Our calculations will only take into account the payback periods of video cards (without motherboards, processors, RAM and power supplies).
  8. The values \u200b\u200bbelow can only be achieved if the farm is running 24/7.
  9. The calculations are carried out on 02/05/2018.
So let's go in order:
  1. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. The price of one board on the official NVIDIA website is 31,600 rubles, which means that we will have to spend 189,600 rubles to assemble a farm of 6 boards. The total hash rate of our farm will be 166.2 MH / s, and the total power of the boards will be 900 W (meaning the standard version without overclocking). Under such conditions, the net profit for the month will be 14,825 rubles. The annual profit will reach 177,900 rubles. This means that it will take about 13 months for the payback of the boards.
  2. Zotac GeForce GTX 1070. The minimum price for one card is 600 dollars or 33,624 rubles. Thus, we will pay 201,744 rubles for 6 planks. One Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card produces 31 MH / s, which means that a combination of 6 bars will provide us with 186 MH / s. The total power of all boards is 900 W. For a month, such equipment will be able to bring about 16,890 rubles in profit. For the year, the farm will enrich the owner by 202,680 rubles. As a result, the payback of the equipment will take 12 months (or even a little less).
  3. ASUS GeForce GTX 1070. A farm made of boards of this model will cost us 268,800 rubles. Its total productivity will be 189 MH / s, and its power will be 1800 W. The monthly profit of the miner will be 13 860 rubles, and the annual profit will be 166 320 rubles. As a result, it will take the owner 19–20 months to recoup the equipment (the price of the boards and their energy consumption are to blame).
  4. EVGA GeForce GTX 1070. For one such bar, you will have to pay $ 900 or 50,436 rubles. Therefore, the farm will need to spend 302 616 rubles. The total hash rate will be 186 MH / s. The power consumption of the equipment will reach 1020 watts. With such layouts, 16 340 rubles will be released per month. The annual net profit will amount to a little more than 196,000 rubles. Through simple calculations, you can come to the conclusion that it will take almost 19 months to pay off the farm.
  5. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. At the current exchange rate for one video card of this model, you need to pay about 56,000 rubles. This means that the farm will have to set aside 336,000 rubles. The total capacity of the equipment will be 192 MH / s, and the power will be 1080 watts. The monthly profit on the video cards under consideration will be 16,760 rubles, and the annual profit - 201,120 rubles. As a result, the equipment will pay off in 20 months.
  6. MSI GeForce GTX 1070. To assemble a farm from cards of this model, the user will need to spend about 302,600 rubles. The total productivity of 6 video cards is 189 MH / s. The total power consumption is 900 W. A farm from MSI GeForce GTX 1070 will bring in 17,000 rubles a month. The annual profit will amount to 204,000 rubles. Thus, the equipment will pay for itself in about a year and a half.
  7. Palit GeForce GTX 1070. At the exchange rate, the price of one such board will be almost 49,900 rubles. 6 Palit GeForce GTX 1070 planks will cost a person 299,400 rubles. The set of video cards of this model will provide the miner with 187.2 MH / s, while the power consumption will reach 900 watts. The combination of these fees will bring about RUB 16,800 monthly. For the year, the miner's profit will be 201,600 rubles. As a result, the farm will pay for itself in about a year and a half.
  8. INNO3D GeForce GTX 1070. Here, a person needs to spend at least 293,940 rubles to buy 6 boards. The farm of them will give a high hash rate of 195 MH / s. The power of the equipment will be 900 W. The monthly net profit of the user will be 17,770 rubles, and the annual - 213,240 rubles. The approximate payback period for the equipment is 17 months.
  9. Aorus GeForce GTX 1070. Assembling the farm will cost 318,000 rubles. The hashrate of the equipment will be 186 MH / s. The total power is 900 watts. The equipment under consideration will bring 16,790 rubles per month, and 201,480 rubles per year. Thus, the payback of the farm will take almost 19 months.
It must be remembered that the specified payback periods and net income can vary both upward and downward. It all depends on the rate of the cryptocurrency, the complexity of mining and the duration of the breaks in the mining of coins (for example, due to a blackout).

Which video card based on GeForce GTX 1070 should you prefer?

At first glance, it seems that the best options are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 farms. They are relatively cheap, have a high hash rate and are economical in terms of power consumption, as a result of which they quickly pay off. But there is one nuance here. You are unlikely to be able to assemble a large farm from cards of the same model. Such devices are quickly sold out by more cunning miners, and many stores set restrictions on the sale of a specific video card model to one person. Therefore, most likely, you will have to combine planks from different manufacturers in your farm.

Remember that all the video cards reviewed are suitable for mining, so it's up to you to decide which one you prefer. But try not to collect farms only from expensive models, as they will pay for themselves for a long time, and the sudden collapse of the cryptocurrency market has not been canceled. Although even in this case, you will find yourself in a more advantageous situation than the owners of Asiks, because the collected boards can always be sold to gamers.

  • You may also be wondering about the year.

There is an opinion that mining on Geforce 1070 is one of the most economically profitable. Similar conclusions were drawn from the high performance indicators, as well as against the background of the superiority of iron over other video cards. About why mining for 1070 has gained popularity, as well as about other options for working in the field of crypto mining, further in our material.

GTX 1070 mining: basic aspects

To determine the main points of working with a 1070 video card for mining, you need to focus on hash rates and the parameters for achieving them. It is important to understand that depending on the accompanying conditions, the initial data may vary slightly. One of the aspects is the memory chip: if there is a choice, attention should be paid to Samsung, while refusing from Micron (thus, work at high frequencies will be supported).

Best 1070 for mining

It is worth noting that at the time of the steady growth in the popularity of crypto mining, the disputes about which video card could ultimately claim the title of "the best 1070 for mining" were ongoing. However, in order for the user to make a choice himself, it is necessary to understand several aspects:
  • Mining with Nvidia 1070
Few can argue with the performance of video cards. However, even against the background of high performance, some users note one drawback that can be decisive for many - a lot of noise from work. However, if we are talking about compiling a mining farm on 1070 cards, such questions disappear.
  • Mining with Asus 1070
Excellent performance, good cooling and low noise levels. The combination of the features presented makes the video card one of the most popular choices for mining cryptocurrencies. The only drawback may be a somewhat overpriced, when compared with competitors, which manufacturers considered it necessary to fix, against the background of high demand.

  • Mining with Gigabyte 1070
The distinctive features of the presented video card include inefficient fans. Users give impartial comparisons with their closest competitors, which take care of cooling many times better. However, there are also those who disagree - those who are sure that the three fans present are quite capable of providing the necessary conditions for work.

  • Msi 1070 mining
One of the problems with the video card is the very outdated system. However, at the same time, it is also one of the most proven on the market.

  • Mining with Palit 1070
The fans turn on only when necessary (when the temperature rise is detected). Differs in curious design and impressive volumes.

  • Mining with nVidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
It should be noted that it is only 8% higher than the performance in mining on the geforce gtx 1070. However, its relatively low cost allows us to consider the purchase as an improvement in the performance of crypto mining, but it does not have the best energy efficiency. However, at the same time, there is sufficient potential to realize overclocking. Thanks to this, the gtx 1070 ti is also a fairly popular option for mining.

Interesting! Mining on GTX 1070 8gb and similar variations becomes less efficient when we talk about working on a laptop. In this case, the extraction of crypto coins literally endangers the "health" of the entire device. As a result, the user runs the risk of causing irreparable harm to the device. However, there are enough miners who will strongly disagree with this point of view. In any case, the choice is up to everyone, but all risks must be taken into account.

Overclocking MSI GTX 1070 for mining

For example, let's take an MSI card with 8G memory.

Among the most interesting and important aspects of the work are the following:

  • Before starting work, you need to decide which coin will ultimately be of interest for mining. For this, the best assistant to the miner is Nicehash Miner. This is done to further optimize the settings.
  • Next, it is necessary to highlight the main aspects of future work. Most often, attention is drawn to power consumption and lowering the overall operating temperature of the video card. MSI Afterburner can be used for this.
Interesting! When introducing settings, you should not reinvent the wheel: the fact is that on the forums of miners you can get detailed instructions for optimizing the operation of any video card. Do not neglect the advice of experienced ones.
When working, you also need to pay attention to the following recommendations:
  • The first to be overclocked is the memory, and only after that is the core frequency.
  • The next step is Power Limit correction (most go below the 75% level).
The power consumption of mining 1070 will vary depending on the composite data of the overall design, the chosen coin for mining and other nuances. Average indicators will be in the region of 125-180W.
Important! In order for the video card to be in working order for as long as possible, you must always monitor its temperature.
When it comes to questions about what drivers are needed to mine the 1070, most tend to lean towards the latest versions from Nvidia.

Summing up

Despite the recommendations, most miners still prefer to choose video cards based on the capabilities of their wallets, which, with a competent approach, can also give a good result. When comparing the final result, it should be noted that this issue should also take into account the initial data of other parts of the machine for crypto mining, as well as the personal preferences of users. At the current time, you can find a lot of cards on the secondary market, so this is a very good way to save money now.
