There you will also find the item "System update" and when you click on it, your phone will start searching for updates, then download and install them. A reboot will be required after the performed operations in order to activate the updated version of the software.

This software is included with the Galaxy S3. If for some reason you could not update your phone automatically, you can use this method. The interface is also intuitive, so there shouldn't be any difficulties.

Before we start

1. First of all, it is important to clarify that this software and procedure is for the international variant of the Galaxy S3, only for the I9300. To make sure you have the correct model, go to Settings\u003e About Phone, where you should see the model number. If it's the I9300, move forward. In addition, the phone must be disconnected from the network.
2. Second, it's a good idea to back up any important files or data that you may have on board your Galaxy S3 before moving on. You can manually connect your phone to your PC and eject what you need, or you can use a custom recovery tool such as ClockworkMod or TWRP - these tools create an entire backup of your phone and you can restore the state you were in if things go wrong or you change your mind (provided that the phone is not completely bricked, of course).
3. Make sure your computer has updated USB drivers to connect to your phone.
4. Make sure your smartphone is in USB debugging mode. Go to Settings\u003e Developer Options and check the box next to Enable USB Debugging. Note that if you cannot see the developer options, you can open them by pressing the software build number seven times.
5. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
6. Make sure you have a MicroSD card in your phone.

You must download the custom PA ROM:

You must also download compatible Google apps, you have a choice of two sets:

• Google App Files (templated)
• Google App Files (full)

Now flash it!

With these downloaded files, connect your phone to your computer using USB. Copy the PA firmware and Google Apps archive files to the root folder of your phone's SD card - don't extract the files!

You can now install the ROM using recovery methods either through ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP Recovery.

If you are using CWM

1. Select wipe data / factory reset. Then select "Yes" when prompted.
2. Select erase the cache partition and confirm.
3. Go to CWM main menu. Click Advanced and then Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm.
4. Select "Install Zip from SD Card", then "Select zip from SD Card". Find the final ParanoidAndroid ROM file, select it and then confirm.
5. Once this is done, select "Return" next to "Reboot System Now" from the recovery menu. Wait for the phone to complete the reboot process, which can take up to five minutes.

If you are using TWRP

1. Turn off your phone and wait 5-10 seconds until it turns off completely.
2. Boot your phone into recovery mode by holding the volume up, home, and power button at the same time until the recovery screen appears. You can use the volume keys to navigate the recovery options and the power button to select an action.
3. Click "Erase" and scroll down. Select "Reset to factory settings".
4. Now choose Erase\u003e Advanced Erase and select System. Scroll down and select Swipe to Erase.
5. Click install and find the final ParanoidAndroid file on your SD card. Swipe down the screen and make a selection to confirm the firmware.
6. Follow the same procedure for Google App files.
7. After the installation is complete, click "reboot" and select "System". The reboot can take up to five minutes.
8. Note that if your phone gets stuck in a boot loop, please do a factory reset from recovery mode.

However, the new firmware version has not arrived for all users, since different operator versions of firmware may differ in delivery time, while other users' smartphones may not see the new firmware by themselves. In this regard, I wrote a small guide to manually upgrade Galaxy S III to Android 4.3.

So, first we need it itself, you can download one on our website. For devices purchased legally, it is best to install a version for the home market in Russia, but there is no such version yet, so I decided to install the British version. It is not much different and also contains Russian, like any other European version. In the future, it will be possible to reinstall the firmware using the method described below and this will not lead to the loss of the official warranty for the smartphone. I also recommend that you read the article to the end in order to avoid further discomfort, which will inevitably overtake you after the update.

The procedure for installing the firmware is as follows:

1. run the program on a PC and make sure that the smartphone has enough charge;
2. enter the smartphone into Download Mode (at the same time pressing the "off" + "volume down" + "home button" keys), then press "Volume up";
3. connect a USB cable to the device;
4. in the Odin application on your computer, select files from the archive with the firmware:
   • for the PIT graph - a file with the * .pit extension;
   • for PDA - a file with the word CODE in its name, if there is none, then you should know that this is the heaviest file in the archive;
   • for CSC - a file with the word CSC in its name;
   • for Phone - a file containing MODEM in its name;
   • Note. If the files for the CSC, Phone and PIT graphs are absent in the archive with the firmware, then we sew exclusively by the method of one file, i.e. indicate the location of the firmware in the PDA column, and leave the remaining lines blank.
5. make sure Odin is checked for Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time ". If the location of the * .pit file was specified, then the "Re-Partition" checkbox will be set automatically;
6. press the "Start" button and watch the firmware process progress. The phone may reboot several times during installation and in no case should you disconnect the cable from it until the message "All threads completed" appears in the Odin log or the green information window with the inscription "PASS!"

On average, flashing a Galaxy S3 takes about 6 minutes, but it can take longer. In any case, it is worth waiting for an inscription about the completion of the installation of the firmware, because the early interruption of the process can turn the phone into a "brick". As soon as Odin informs you that the firmware has been installed successfully (message “PASS!” In the Odin application), you can start installing the operating system itself.

There are no difficulties in installing Android 4.3, the system is intuitive and prompts the user to place the necessary checkboxes himself, and even if you miss any moments, you can always make changes in the smartphone settings. The phone is now fully flashed and ready to go.

Android 4.3 is quite different from the previous version (Android 4.1.2), but we still have the same Jelly Bean, so it won't take long to get used to the innovations. First of all, the updated interface that the Galaxy S3 inherited from its own is striking. In addition, the standard Samsung keyboard and S Voice service have been updated, new screen and camera modes have appeared, and they have been accompanied by a redesigned notification center and settings section. Another feature of Android 4.3 is support for TRIM (now the device should become faster), ANT +, clock and full voice control.

However, Android 4.3 is not for everyone at the moment, as, being official, the firmware is still damp and sometimes buggy. In particular, I noticed that removing the lock now takes more time, and sometimes during this process the phone may freeze altogether, after which it will have to be rebooted. After asking other users about this problem, I found out that many people experience such delays. At the same time, other users complain about something else. For example, the hang of the end of the call button.

In general, Android 4.3 can be delivered for review, but at your own peril and risk. However, I would still recommend waiting for the official version of Android 4.3 Galaxy S3 for Russia or the firmware with fixed bugs. Fortunately, Samsung is already working on a solution to the identified issues.
