Thousands of both paid and free watch faces for every taste and color are available in the Galaxy Store. The only problem is that most of them are of no value.

Today, anyone can download the official Galaxy Watch Designer program to their computer and create their own “masterpiece” in just 15 minutes, without any special knowledge and skills. And then put it out for everyone to see in the Galaxy Store.

Among all this set, we tried to select for you the highest quality and interesting watch faces for such smart watches from Samsung as: Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch, Gear Sport, Gear S3 and Gear S2.

And, importantly, they are all completely free!

How to install watch faces on Samsung Galaxy Watch?

Installing a third-party watch face is very easy. This requires:

  • Open the Galaxy Wearable companion app
  • Go to tab Watch dials
  • Scroll down the list and press the button Yet

This will open the watch face store. Choose the option you like and press the button Install.

To install any watch face from this article, you just need to click the link Downloadbelow the description. The watch face will then automatically open in the Samsung app store. Please note: if you are reading this article on a computer - link Downloadwill not work.

Samsung's Gear S3 is a fully functional smartwatch, although we'd like to see more apps for it.

If you received the Gear S3 as a gift for the holidays, or just recently bought it, chances are that some of the nuances and aspects of the watch remain to be explored. We've highlighted 10 tips and tricks to help you get comfortable with your new gadget.

The box is a charging stand.

Instead of throwing the box in the trash can, you can turn it into a charging dock for your watch. Apart from the simple assembly of some parts, there is no complicated work on your part. See the user manual included in the kit (page 5) for detailed instructions on how to assemble the stand.

During the setup process, the app will ask you to install two or three more apps that are needed so the watch and phone can communicate with each other. Follow the instructions and install the required plugins and services.

Change of dials.

The Gear S3 has many watch faces, most of which you will need to use the Gear app on your Android device to view and install.

You can switch between watch faces on your phone or on the watch itself. Press and hold on the current watch face, and then swipe left or right to view the installed watch faces. If the "Stylize" option is shown below the preview, click on it to change the color and customize the watch face to your liking.

Using Samsung Pay.

One of the important features in the Gear S3 is full compatibility with Samsung Pay. This means that you can pay for purchases at NFC terminals, as well as at old payment terminals with classic credit cards, using your watch. I spent the whole weekend using this technology
and she's amazing.

Press and hold the top button on the right of the watch for a couple of seconds to start the setup process. You need to add a plastic card to your phone, but the app will guide you through the process.

Then, when you need to pay for the purchase, click on the desired card and bring the watch to the payment terminal. It's just some kind of magic.

Access to quick settings.

Swipe down on the watch face to access quick settings. Here you can turn on Airplane Mode, manually turn on Do Not Disturb when you go to a meeting or movie, adjust the brightness, speaker volume, and control the music app.

Add widgets and change their arrangement.

By turning the ring around the watch face to the right, you can view the application widgets that are currently installed on the watch. When viewing a widget, press and hold on it to customize, change, remove, or add new widgets.

Application management.

The default app circle is also customizable and can be invoked by long pressing on the app icon. A ring will appear outlining the edge of the watch screen, letting you know that you are in edit mode. Drag, drop and uninstall apps right from the watch screen.

Setting a shortcut to the Home button.

Double-clicking the bottom button on the Gear S3, also known as the Home button, launches S Voice by default. However, you can configure this setting to launch other applications ranging from Calendar to S Health.

On your watch, open Settings\u003e Device\u003e Double-press the Home key and select a shortcut from the list.

Do not disturb setting.

With the Gear S3's large battery, you can leave your watch on at night to track your sleep. But, waking up at night from calls and SMS on the wrist will not help you have a good night's rest, so you will most likely want to turn on the "Do not disturb" mode.

On your watch, open Settings\u003e Device\u003e Do Not Disturb. Select the days and times that you want to block notifications, then double-check the scheduled activation.

Turn off reminders to move.

Some people are annoyed by the hourly reminders to get up and move. You can turn off these alarms in the S Health app on your watch. Scroll to the "Settings" icon and select it, and then click on "Not active time".

Several years ago, I shared my impressions of the then Pebble Steel smartwatch in my LJ, see.
Years passed :), the Pebble company was bought by another (Fossil), and the new watches stopped producing, and with those already purchased it is not clear what will happen about support, so I decided to buy new ones.

Unfortunately, despite the rather wide range of Android Wear watches from various manufacturers, in the end there was practically no choice, since the battery life of the gadget is important for me - at least a few days, since I use the watch as an alarm clock, i.e. I do not agree to put on charge every night. And in general, if on average they live on battery power for a day, then with a greater load (navigation, games, listening to music, etc.) it is not a fact that they will be able to work without recharging until the evening. In the case of the usual operating time of several days, one can reasonably hope that the watch will withstand at least a day under load.
In addition to relatively obscure models like the Vector Smart Watch, on the one hand, according to reviews that work for up to a month without recharging, and on the other hand, they were distinguished by glitchiness and a small set of functions, the recently released Samsung Gear S3 watch (at that time - early 2017) deserved attention - see page hours on the Samsung website.
That's what I bought them, in the Classic version (see below in the post text).

As a teaser - video review (a little "cut off" due to the sudden cessation of video recording by the camera), a detailed story about them with photos, usage statistics, battery life, etc. - below under the cut:

So, Samsung Gear S3 comes in two versions:
1. Frontier - for fans of sports-brutal :) design:

2. Classic - the direction of the design is clear from the name :) - my version :)

The watch is controlled by two buttons that respond to single, double and long presses, a touch screen and a bezel - a corrugated ring around the screen (see the pictures above), which is quite convenient for scrolling through lists, etc.
The screen in the watch is a bright AMOLED, it is also readable in bright light (although electronic paper is better in such conditions), therefore, like the phone screen, it will drain the battery very quickly with constant operation. Therefore, in addition to such a scenario of use, you can make the screen turn on only when you raise your hand to look at the time (there are false alarms, but in general it is convenient) or by pressing the button or turning the bezel.

The watch connects to the phone via Bluetooth, it is most compatible with Samsung phones, but it can also work with others on Android and even with an Apple iPhone.
In my case, the connection between the watch and the Samsung Galaxy Note4 is quite stable. The battery consumption of the phone for connecting via BT with the clock has increased, but not significantly.
The clock can work even without connecting to a phone (in an airplane, for example), but the level of "cleverness" :) at the same time decreases significantly, which can be somewhat compensated by connecting them to the Internet via WiFi if possible.

The specs taken from the site www.gsmarena.com show that at least the clock does not have a GSM module, i.e. You can call from them only with the help of a phone, otherwise their filling is quite at the level - not a flagship smartphone, of course, but the requirements for them are simpler:

What is a smart watch for and is it worth contacting at all, given the need for relatively frequent charging (once every few days, more on that below), settings, configuration, downloading applications, etc.?

The answer to this question depends on requests :).
For example, I’m unlikely to use a regular watch, it’s easier to get a smartphone out of the holster and see the time (which I did until I bought Pebble Steel 3 years ago). But the phone is not always convenient to pull out, hands are busy, there is little time, etc., so smart watches show the time too :), but also serve, so to speak, as a remote screen and a smartphone control panel, giving access to the following:
- Typical and not very typical, but common "hourly" functions like a smart stopwatch, calculator and alarm (vibration and sound), calendar - date, day of the week, week number of the year (we have a lot to do with this in planning projects) and the like;
- Weather forecast - from the current temperature to prediction for the next few days;
- Times in different time zones (useful if you work with teams in other countries, for example);
- Information about missed calls, received e-mails, sms, schedules, etc .: it is more convenient to look at the wrist, for example, the number of the meeting room you go to when you hold your laptop with your other hand, etc. You can also respond to letters and sms - even if prepared in advance with answers like "OK" or "No", and by typing from the on-screen keyboard;
- The ability to receive and make calls (you need to connect to the phone via Bluetooth), using both a speaker and a microphone in the watch (the sound quality is so-so, but always on the hand) or an earphone if connected to a phone (or to a watch, also via Bluetooth);
- Playing music from the watch directly to wireless headphones, as well as controlling its playback from the phone, without taking it out of your pocket for this;
- Record notes by voice on the watch;
- Creating reminders (also by voice, but you can also use text), for example, "call Vasya in half an hour" - the watch will remind and dial Vasya if he appears in the phone's contact list under that name. Speech recognition, however, is still a C, but you can adapt;
- "Navigation on the wrist" functions - the watch has a GPS, it can also work with the navigation functions of the phone, saving its battery. Quite convenient, by the way, although the charge is consumed quickly;
- The S-Health program, which monitors the burned calories, the distance traveled, including climbing floors (according to the altimeter-barometer!), Heart rate, etc .;
- And many other things determined by the applications installed on the watch: currency converters with online rate updates, an "electronic ticket" from KLM airlines, which allows you to go through check-in, etc. by putting a watch with a QR code on the terminal and so on. There are already hundreds of programs and dials of varying degrees of usefulness in the Samsung store, probably, and their number continues to increase. There are both paid (usually costing from a few tens of cents to several euros) and free - games, other applications for monitoring health and fitness, even web browsers, shopping lists, books, etc.

The delivery set of the watch includes several "native" dials, for example, this is the dial:

Or like this, more interesting IMHO:

Although in my opinion it is somewhat strange to get carried away with arrow dials on smartwatches, which can do much more;), but nevertheless, most of the "watchface" (see translation of watchface: D) in the Samsung store, etc., are just like that. Traditions? Unmeasured beauty? I do not know:). I only use digital ones that you can buy, for example this one for a euro or so:

But I used the purchased dials until the program for the development of the "watchmord" was "finished" for the new Gear S3.
There are several of them: "native" from Samsung Gear Watch Designer (GWD), Facer, MR.TIME MAKER and, finally, my favorite WatchMaker (see. Google+ community for examples of designed watch faces, news, etc.) - IMHO, which has the most extensive capabilities (even better than GWD, which does not seem to give their entire range to "third-party" users). The program provides a dial editor that works on a phone connected to the watch and downloads it via Bluetooth into its "container" (a companion program on the watch), which itself appears to Samsung as a dial.
In addition to the watch face editor, WatchMaker makes it possible to download watch faces developed by others - a little free, much more (and better quality) if you buy this software.

There are arrow options like these:

There are also digital ones like my designs, which can be seen in the video and in the photos below.

The program has a lot of options for developing the design and "behavior" of dials - you can animate the watch face, you can program its behavior in the LUA scripting language, using pre-prepared and loaded images, etc., connect the weather display, call programs on the watch and phone, and much other.
Now this is my favorite toy :), see the video above and a few photos below.

Most often I use a homemade "steampunk" animated dial. Animation (shown in the video) is needed there to change the displayed information - so that the size of the text on each changed screen remains readable. Well, for beauty, of course ;-).
Available with gas discharge tubes

And with steampunk goggles:

More animation in this watch face can be seen below:

Or like this, darker and without animation, but by pressing the same information in principle is replaced in its windows, which is also present in the steampunk version:

The work of the dial can be seen in the video below:

It seems that these options are quite suitable for my requests, but nevertheless I continue to have fun with the clock. For example, purely for the sake of fun :) and practice in writing LUA code and animation, I built such a disgrace - a watchface based on the Matrix :). The insidious Morpheus is trying to replace the selected pill there, and the green code rain brings information about the weather,% of batteries, etc.
Pampering, do not judge strictly :)

Now about the battery life of the watch:

As you can see, it varies from a couple to five days - and it depends on the scenario of use.
Basically, when activating the screen with a gesture (raising your hand to see the time), several dozen notifications per day, several phone calls and SMS, regularly viewing the time, weather, etc. my watch lives on average about 4 days. Sometimes a little less when some crude application is "buggy", sometimes a little more if it falls during the flight on the plane, when there are no letters or calls.
Exceptions:
Low runtime cases:
- No. 2-3: here I tried to make dials in the Facer program, which at that time was not optimized for S3 and was eating up the battery, it lasted for a couple of days. Stopped :).
- No. 15-16: I tried to use a watch with a constantly on screen (except at night) - we also worked for 2 days. In general, I do not need this, the gesture activation is enough.
Especially long run times:
- No. 24-25, here I put the screen on by pressing (turned off the "gesture") - saved half a day or a day of work, in total the hours worked from a charge up to 5 days.

I usually put the watch on charge every 3 days, when 20-30% of the battery remains (for another day of work approximately).

About accessories:

I recommend the protective glass. Although the watch and Gorilla Glass are "native", the oleophobic coating on it is not iron;), and the glass is also well protected b. I use it, and in 3 months I had to replace one - the edge of the protection cracked from an accidental blow. I'm glad it’s not hours;).

Unlike Pebble clasps, which were not for the better proprietary, almost any 22mm wide watch straps and bracelets fit the Samsung Gear S3. Thus, you can use stocks :) and buy new things, choosing at least for convenience, at least for design, achieving, for example, a combination of colors of dials and bracelets-straps both in the design of watch faces and in the selection of accessories :)

So, to sum up:
I am generally satisfied with the purchase, I take it off my hands only in the shower, sauna, etc. (although there is water protection, why bother? :)).
There are some drawbacks, mainly related to the fact that the clock infrastructure is just evolving - there are fewer applications than Google, sometimes there are glitches like battery power. But the software is improving, new programs appear - the situation is being corrected. Well, I would also like to have a couple of weeks of battery life, of course;).
However, at the moment, the watch fully fulfills what I expect from them.

If you need what a smartwatch can provide, I recommend it :).

If you have any questions about the gadget, I will be glad to answer :).

Shl. By the way, anecdote about the origin of the term "gadget":
Husband to wife:
- In, look what you bought!
Wife:
- How much it costs?
Husband:
- 400 euros!
Wife:
- Well, you bastard!
:-)

The Samsung Galaxy Watch is one of the most anticipated smartwatches this year. There were many rumors about the capabilities and characteristics of these watches, but most of them did not come true, and did not become a revolutionary watch, but, in fact, became an improved version. Among the main advantages of the watch are extended battery life, built-in GPS for tracking and navigation, and some exclusive features of the Tizen operating system.

For a more comfortable use of the gadget, many additional applications have been developed, by installing which you can significantly expand the capabilities of the watch. We decided to collect the best apps for Samsung Galaxy Watch in one place. All of them are available for download in the Galaxy Apps store, so we will not leave links to applications.

Facer

Facer is the perfect watch personalization app. This app is available for Tizen, Wear OS and watchOS operating systems. If the Galaxy Watch's own dials aren't enough for you, this is the app for you. Facer contains a huge collection of watch faces (over 30,000 variants) for all platforms. Facer has also developed several of its own mini games for smartwatches, which can also be installed using the application.

Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming apps. The Spotify app installed on the Galaxy Watch supports offline mode. That is, you can download and listen to music directly from the smart watch itself, without being tied to a smartphone.

Is a cool app that most people will use on their Galaxy Watch, but the workout options are limited. The PEAR Sports app offers hundreds of workouts and training plans designed and tested by renowned athletes and coaches. At PEAR Sports, you can find a variety of activities such as walking, running, cycling, stretching, etc. In general, there is something in the application for both beginners and more experienced athletes.

Here WeGo Maps is a great navigation app for Samsung Galaxy Watch. The application can work autonomously, without connecting to smartphones. To work with the application, you need to download and install it on your watch, and download maps. Once installed and activated, WeGo Maps allows you to plan routes and record data in memory for later viewing.

Find My Car is a small but very useful app for motorists. It will help you find a car if you cannot remember where you parked. The app can remember where you parked, and using the Galaxy Watch's built-in GPS, show how far you are from your parked car.

In fact, this is not a complete list of apps for the Samsung Galaxy Watch, but in our opinion, these are some of the most popular and useful.
