Sony Xperia T2. Sony Xperia T2 Ultra - Specifications. Bluetooth is a standard for secure wireless transfer of data between different types of devices over short distances

An inexpensive Sony phablet can now be found for almost 12,000 rubles. Compared to the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, there is no water and glass protection, but it has dual SIM support and a better camera.

Design, construction

I really liked and like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, an extremely interesting phablet is interesting even now - the price has become lower, but the unique features have not gone anywhere. This is an excellent design and display, support for LTE, a thin body, yes, in the end, the thing is just nice to take in hand. The Z Ultra, like the T2 Ultra, are travel devices. Fits in the smallest bag, you can conveniently watch TV shows, a movie or just read. Better than reading or watching something on the iPhone screen anyway.

We each have our own cockroaches in our heads, and for some time now I stopped liking to take a backpack with me on the flight, I try to place all my things in a suitcase and take nothing with me to the cockpit, or nothing at all, or just a small bag. And even an iPad Air doesn’t fit in my small bag - mini will fit, but I don’t want to buy another iPad at all. And this is where the T2 Ultra comes to the rescue, if you wish, you can even put it in your pocket and go light. You can put a SIM card with the main number inside and add a second one for use in roaming. You can put a 64 GB memory card here and fill it all with content - or you can turn down the brightness and read books. I say all this to the fact that the phablet is a very versatile device, and you can think of a lot of use cases.

But let's get down to business. The dimensions of the device are 165.2 x 93.8 x 7.65 mm, the weight is 171.8 grams, as I said, you can carry it in your pocket, although when I sit down I feel a slight hindrance. But you can get used to it. The smartphone comes in three colors: white, black and purple. The body is made of plastic, the design is recognizable, since the first Sony Xperia Z, the company's smartphones have their own face, which is great.

Silver inserts at the ends, a familiar button on the right, stripes - volume buttons and a camera. Above the display is a front camera, light and proximity sensors, the earpiece is covered with a metal strip with perforation. The same strip is at the bottom and on the back of the case. 3.5 mm input - on the right, it is normal, does not support advanced accessories. On the back there is a camera lens, flash, microphone, NFC area. I have been using the device for a long time, scratches appear on the smooth plastic, they are noticeable only if you look at it from an angle.

Under the flap on the right, there are two slots for SIM cards, ordinary cards, microSIM. On the left - a slot for a microSD card, cards of any capacity are supported. Since this is not a flagship device, there is no magnetic connector like the usual Ultra. I think the company will show Sony Xperia Z Ultra 2 in Las Vegas or even earlier, it would be logical - the camera will surely be improved, a new five-pin connector will be added, weight will be reduced, and metal will be added. I'm really looking forward to the next phablet, literally looking forward.

Yes, please note that the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual has no moisture protection, the microUSB connector is without a cap. There is also no groove for fastening a strap, which is familiar to older devices. The indicator light is small, it is red when charging. For the convenience of one-handed operation, we added an option to quickly call notifications, you need to double-tap the Home icon.

Keep in mind, the story with SIM cards is this - the device supports LTE only on one SIM card.

  • SIM 1: UMTS HSPA + 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz, GSM GPRS / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
  • SIM 2: GSM GPRS / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

New Sony smartphones have LTE support for two SIM cards at once, for example, the Sony Xperia Z3.

Display

Is there a big difference between a five-inch display and a six-inch display? In my opinion, it is very large. Take a look at the HTC One and Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. Which screen do you think is best for watching movies? Naturally, the advantage is for T2. The diagonal of the display is 6 inches, the screen is made using TFT technology, of course there is a difference with IPS. The resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels (HD), the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology is supported - it can be noticed when you watch a video. You can see it, but I didn't succeed. The screen has good viewing angles, but the white here is slightly yellow, this is noticeable when browsing sites. As it seems to me, the brightness is a little lacking, I want to add, but no more.

Performance

A quad-core Qualcomm MSM8228 processor is used, a clock speed of 1.4 GHz, Adreno 305 is responsible for the video, the device shows this in AnTuTu.

One gigabyte of RAM - I don't know if this is enough for a device with such a display. Or Sony wanted to make the device as cheap as possible. Affordable phablet, not a bad idea. Let's see if there is a sequel - this is always an indicator of whether the progenitor was successful. Installed 8 GB of memory for data storage, can be expanded using a microSD card. Operating system Android 4.3 (initially) with a number of proprietary additives, these are their own icons, player, some programs. For example, Sony Select - the best applications for Xperia, in XperiaLounge you can find various promotions and discounts for Xperia owners, Office Suite - a package for working with documents, Evernote is preinstalled, there is a radio, TrackID, a program for identifying musical compositions.

Here it is necessary to give an almost traditional conclusion, the device works quickly, I did not encounter any brakes when launching installed programs.

Here's one example of what's added here from Sony, let's take a player. This is Sony Surround Sound Technology, supported by AptX, so with headsets that support the technology, the sound will be gorgeous, ClearAudio +, Clear Bass, Clear Phaze, Clear Stereo to improve sound. There is a dynamic normalizer (equalizes the volume) and SensMe channels. It seems to be trifles, but there are a lot of such trifles - naturally, all this affects the use of the device for the better, listening to music on the Xperia T2 is pleasant.

A little more about Bluetooth, profile 4.0, Ant + profile is supported for working with sports gadgets, Wi-Fi - IEEE 802.11a / b / g / n, there is DLNA support.

An important addition, not so long ago there was an update for the smartphone, now using Android 4.4.2, it seems to me that the device has become even faster.

Camera

The main difference from the usual Z is the use of a 13 MP camera, there is a flash. The shots are better, there is a separate shooting button, various effects, including augmented reality. In my opinion, everything is fine with the camera, you can easily use it every day - but if you look closely at the pictures on the computer, you can conclude that the iPhone 5S shoots better. Sony Xperia T2 Ultra lacks detail, colors look odd. But, again, this is in any case better than the regular Ultra, if you were looking for a Sony phablet with a normal camera, then there is only one option so far.

HD video recording, good quality, but nothing more.

Nutrition

The claimed battery life is about 16 hours of talk time, 89 hours of listening to music (!), 11 hours of watching videos. The battery capacity is 3000 mAh, the device works like any other Android device - it all depends on what you do with it. In flight, the T2 Ultra calmly withstood several episodes of the series and still remained "on the bottom".

conclusions

In retail, this device can now be found for 11,000 rubles, an excellent price for a Sony device with a large screen, proprietary additions to the interface, two SIM-cards, a good design and display. Moreover, you can find this gadget for less money, well, but I am generally silent about the secondary market, for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra dual in perfect condition they ask from eight thousand rubles (I looked at Avito). You can talk about success for a long time, but in this case everything is decided by the price - and the price is all right. Yes, the materials here are not as good as those of the regular Ultra, but does the white plastic look good too? And even scratches are not particularly noticeable. The screen is not IPS, but you can watch the movie without frowning, the quality is quite normal. The operating speed is acceptable, the speakers are loud, it is quite convenient to talk - everything is in order with the earpiece. The device is niche - it doesn't fit into every pocket - but it will surely find its consumer.

Well, I'll wait for Sony Xperia Ultra 2. It's very interesting what the company will come up with for the new phablet.

Sony loves to present its smartphones out of the blue. As much of a surprise as the Xperia Z Ultra - "Longest Smartphone of 2013", so is the Xperia T2 Ultra. The gadget that no one was expecting turned out to be quite interesting. This isn't just an update to the series - it's an expansion: the first Ultra is still on sale. It is noteworthy that it surpasses the T-two in terms of basic characteristics - the new product has a lower screen resolution and a weaker processor.

Xperia T2, as conceived by the creators, is intended for those who would like to buy Ultra, but are not ready to spend the officially announced 25 thousand rubles on it. The price of the younger device is more humane - Xperia T2 can be bought somewhere for 17 and a half thousand. And this is only at the start of sales! All the piquancy of this venture is spoiled by the fact that the original Ultra entered the market almost a year ago and has already managed to sink in unofficial online stores to the same seventeen thousand rubles. Of course, purchasing products in them, the buyer is deprived of the official Sony service, but in Russia this does not stop everyone. Therefore, the Xperia T2 Ultra should be in good shape and not lag far behind its older brother.

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

The exterior of the device is made in the corporate style of Sony designers. There are no obvious savings on materials or assembly that are periodically observed in devices of the mid-price category, which is good. Look'n'feel, as they say, is very pleasant - in the best traditions of Sony.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual

Six-inch smartphones are by definition large and almost impossible to use with one hand. Nevertheless, the engineers of the Japanese company did everything possible to make the dimensions of the device a minimum of inconvenience. T2 Ultra weighs a little by the standards of "under-tablet" - 172 grams versus 212 grams for the older "Ultra". The thickness of the body of the novelty is also small - 7.7 mm. However, the older sister is even slimmer - only 6.5 mm. To simplify working with "Ti-tu" with one hand, the virtual keys are shifted to the left or right side of the screen.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual with screen on

The main area on the front panel is occupied by a large six-inch display. The frames around it are very thin, but there is no unwanted reaction due to accidentally touching the screen with your palm - obviously, such touches are filtered. There are no hardware keys on the front panel - the control buttons, as usual for Sony, are touch-sensitive. Above the screen is the lens of the front one-megapixel camera, sensitive areas of the sensors and the earpiece.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - bezel

The back panel of the device is made of glossy and, to our surprise, non-slip plastic. The surface is quite easily soiled - it actively collects fingerprints and fine dirt. Fortunately, on a white surface, all this is not very noticeable, and it is easy to clean.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - back panel

On the lower part of the panel there is a cutout for the external speaker, and on the upper part - the lens of the main 13-megapixel camera with LED flash. By the way, the Z Ultra has no flash. The design of the smartphone is non-separable, you cannot remove the back and get to the battery.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - external speaker

All side faces of the case are traditionally decorated with a mirror edging. The location of the controls is very convenient, with one exception: the power button is located approximately in the middle of the right side. To the taste of the author of this material, it should be moved a little higher so that you do not have to reach it with your thumb.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - power, volume and camera buttons

Next to the lock key is a dual volume rocker, and a little further away is a physical camera button. All keys have a short and polished stroke.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - SIM slots

The micro-USB interface, standard audio jack and slots for SIM and microSD cards are located on the sides of the gadget and are hidden under caps. The Xperia T2 Ultra Dual version uses two micro SIM cards.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual - microUSB connector

Traditionally for Sony the device is offered in three colors - white, black and purple. Probably because of the brand of the rear panel, the T2 Ultra looks better in white. The Xperia T2 Ultra case, unlike the older model, is not resistant to dust and moisture - the plugs above the connectors are purely decorative in this case.

was not enough. Despite the long list of differences - and this screen is “only” HD-resolution, and even “only” 6-inch, the processor is weaker and only 1 GB of RAM, and the case is made of plastic of dubious quality, and even does not have protection from dust and moisture, the model seems to be more resilient than the large and expensive top version. Impression is an impression, but let's figure out in detail which Sony smartphone turned out to be more interesting.

In the dry residue

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual leaves behind a strange impression: on the one hand, it is clearly not a technology leader and far from being a flagship. On the other hand, it is more pleasant and convenient to use than the larger top-end phablet Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The size affects. And the screen, despite the lower resolution, is of higher quality in this device. The device's performance is noticeably lower than that of the flagship, but after all, it is initially excessive, and here it is just right, if we take into account the price. And although the camera is not top-end, it will still be better. It turns out that the only thing in which the smartphone frankly falls behind the more expensive model is the quality of the body materials and the lack of protection from water. In my opinion, given the large difference in price, this is a forgivable thing. If you like Sony phablets, if not admiration, and you are just thinking about switching to such a device format, then buying a Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual seems to me more rational than buying a giant Sony Xperia Z Ultra. If you are just looking for an inexpensive but highly productive phablet, you can also take a look at the Asus Fonepad Note 6 with an active stylus and FullHD display, but a weak camera and a thick body, or try to find last year's LG Optimus G Pro in stores, with flagship features last year, an excellent camera, but a smaller (5.5 inches) display diagonal. And among dualsim options, the only alternative will be Lenovo S939 with the new eight-core Mediatek MT6592 processor. However, its body is nowhere near as elegant as the body of the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. So of all the alternatives, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual looks the most attractive.

3 reasons to buy Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual:

  • elegant body ergonomics;
  • bright and well-calibrated display with glove support;
  • one of the few Sony smartphones with dual SIM support;

1 reason not to buy the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual:

  • impractical plastic case.

Sony, however, says this is not the case and both numbers are available. This is achieved by a software trick: when the function of availability of both numbers is activated, the smartphone itself sets up mutual forwarding on unavailability on them and turns on the network service "Call waiting". That is, the call to the second SIM-card is forwarded to the first one as a "second line".

The same "availability" can be configured on any two-SIM phone, just do not forget that call forwarding is a paid service, and those who use two SIM cards for the sake of economy will completely lose any benefit. And if, God forbid, enable this "feature" in roaming, then you can sell the apartment: conditional call forwarding in this case is paid at double roaming rates.

Display

This year, Sony is finally doing well with the screens, and the T2 Ultra uses a solid IPS matrix without any backlighting on a black background and with excellent contrast; the brightness margin is also great - at least sufficient for legibility under the spring sun. A film is glued to the screen at the factory, so that as soon as scratches appear, you can simply change it.

An inexpensive model only produces a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels. If you take a closer look, individual pixels become visible; however, in everyday use they are not visible at the usual distance from the eyes, the fonts are not blurred. However, although the resolution is sufficient, with such a diagonal it is already possible to distinguish an HD screen from a Full HD one.

The screen supports work with gloves: at this size, you can even type text tolerably in them.
