Uber technical support: how to contact support. Is there a practical way to change your phone number in the Uber app when you arrive in the country? This mobile number is already in use by uber

Nean Der Thal

Is there a practical way to change your phone number in the Uber app when you arrive in the country?

I actively use the Uber app to get taxis in basically any country where Uber is available, and sometimes I get a local sim card.

I always have roaming turned on but the problem is receiving calls, I don't want drivers calling me and it will be considered an international call, some may cancel because of this.

I played with the app and tried to edit the account information, it redirects me to the website and on the website it is grayed out, I can't change the phone number and the note says contact customer service. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to change your phone number. I tried on another Uber account, same result.

Is there a more practical and easy way to change the phone number when I arrive in a new country and get a local sim, and then return it after I leave without having to contact customer service?

Berwyn

Uber drivers don't see your phone number, nor do they know whether it's an international number or not. They are proxied through Uber's servers and see a temporary number to call you. Knowing that you still need to know how to change the number?

Nean Der Thal

@berwyn that's impressive! If you have a source that would then make a fantastic answer. Anyway, I'm sure I received calls from roaming drivers and it showed their number.. So I'm guessing they called me directly.

phuclv

I had this problem once in India. This time I have to call the driver directly from the local SIM card. But I forgot if I used Uber or Olacabs or some similar services

It's worth noting that Uber is generally evil, their business model is based on destroying the rule of law, and also in the United States, they are constantly working to restoration slavery Do your research and think again about what companies you support with your money.

I had this problem: I was able to find my phone number on the settings page, but it was grayed out and I couldn't change it. I switched from a US number to a new international number.

Here's how I was able to change the number for my account:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click "Logout"
  3. Enter a new phone number
  4. Get verification code
  5. Enter the verification code in the Uber app
  6. Enter your email address and password for your old account

My phone number for my existing account has been updated to the new number.

Great! This is the only solution that worked for me!

This solves your problem with revealing your phone number:

Contact without providing personal information. Although racers and drivers can contact each other through the app, they don't actually see each other's real phone numbers. Uber uses technology that anonymizes drivers' and riders' phone numbers so they don't have each other's contact information in the future.

Therefore, if you are abroad, drivers usually do not see the international number, but simply the local number that Uber forwards to the international level.

If you still want to change your phone number, you can probably do so in the app itself under Settings -> Change Account.

To change your phone number:

  1. For iOS users, go to SETTINGS and tap EDIT ACCOUNT under your name. For Android users, go to SETTINGS, click on the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner and select EDIT ACCOUNT.
  2. Enter your account password and click SUBMIT.
  3. Enter your new mobile phone number.
  4. Uber will send a text message with a verification code to this number. If you do not receive an SMS within a few minutes, click Forward.
  5. Enter the verification code and tap SEND.

If this fails, then the only option is to contact Uber:

Settings -> Edit Account is not working, which is what made me ask this question in the first place.

Berwyn

@JonathanReez That's interesting. I can't track the list of countries

Akasha

Number masking is controversial. I use Uber almost daily in India and about 50% of the time the driver has access to my actual number.

Nitish

@Akash: I'm from India and use Uber daily. I asked one driver what he called the racers. He said he doesn't call riders directly. He simply calls the “company” number.

R..

A more general solution to this and related problems: get a VoIP number for which you can set up forwarding, and before departure (or even after arriving, but before switching SIM cards), set up your country's cell number to forward to your VoIP number, and forward your VoIP number to your local number in the country you are going to travel to. This way, anyone can contact you on your regular number. Of course, you pay for shipping, but for most countries the rates are very cheap, around $0.015-$0.030 per minute.

JonathanReez ♦

The problem is that taxi drivers probably won't want to call your foreign number in countries where Uber doesn't hide your real phone number.

JonathanReez

You can change your phone number from the application. Open the Settings menu item, click the three dots in the top right corner and click Edit Account:

Enter your password and you will be able to change your phone number as well as your name. I just tried it and it works.

Nean Der Thal

Strange, it didn't work for me! There must be something wrong with my account.

JonathanReez ♦

@HeidelBerGensis is your application up to date? Otherwise it may be a regional limitation, I would like to try contacting support.

Nean Der Thal

This is relevant. I'll try this for sure now.. Since the app is capable of this, then there must be something wrong with my account.

Berwyn

This doesn't work for me either. I tried to exchange my phone number with one of several other numbers I have

JonathanReez ♦

@Berwyn I'm on Android. Maybe it doesn't work on iOS?

and sometimes I get a local sim card

I had a lot of problems with this for different services while traveling and now I do the following. I created a Skype number, which of course is linked to my Skype account.

Then use this number for all/most services. You won't need a physical SIM card to do anything, so if you're overseas and lose it, then no problem. You just need an internet connection and everything works.

I'm still testing it across all apps and services, but Uber is the perfect case. I can't receive SMS officially, but when I call a UK number they call me (via Skype) and translate the text to speech.

Edit: Tried linking my Uber app but it gives an unknown error. I contacted Uber and am waiting for a response.

Edit 2: Just tried it again and it linked without issue

user568458

Please be aware that Skype numbers terrible unreliable in mobile applications, especially Android. Many times, even if you have a perfect data connection, when you call your Skype number, nothing happens in the app and you will never be notified that someone even tried to call. Sometimes this happens even when the caller hears the ringing, so they will think you are ignoring them. There are hundreds of complaints about this on the Skype forums.

user568458

If Uber does not accept a Skype number, it may be because it is similar to a landline number, so may not be able to receive text messages (Uber uses these to verify numbers).

Francisco Presencia

@user568458 I have no idea, I'll check later and try to find a better solution, thanks for the hint

Try it. Go to edit account, scroll down at the bottom - you will see a sign from the option. Log out using this option. Then sign in again by creating a new account (you'll be entering a new phone number). Then, when the app asks for an email ID, enter the old email ID that you used before. Uber recognizes this email ID and ask you to verify it using your password. After verification, everything is ready - Uber will update your account details, the application will use your new number

Good afternoon to everyone who uses the UBER service! Today I would like to tell a story about how I, and I tried for a long time to restore it and eventually restored it. The story began quite simply - I checked my mail and among a dozen letters I found a letter from UBER, which said that some of my account information had been changed, and in particular my email and password... To say that I was surprised is to say nothing! The letter came to me at 3 am, and at that time I was fast asleep and could not change my account information. After the first wave of indignation, I decided to look into the situation in more detail. So the story begins!

Naturally, the first thing I did was go to the site to try to log into my account. Naturally, the system did not let me in using my login/password, which is quite logical. I decided to try my luck by clicking on the “forgot password” button. If I had been able to restore access after this action, this story would not have happened, as many might have guessed 😉 It was very naive on my part to wait for an email with a link to restore access, because not only the password, but also the email address itself had been changed mail! And what to do in this case? What would you do if a similar situation happened to you? It is logical that the company has a website that has a list of possible contacts through which you can contact support and regain access to your account. And, as it turned out, UBER also has a technical support page, but the only way to contact real people was mail...

Let me make a small digression. At first, I didn’t even want to bother restoring my account, thinking that this could be done on any other day, because there was already a lot to do. However, one thought seeped from the depths of my brain - “BANK CARD IS LINKED TO UBER ACCOUNT”! I quickly go to the Internet bank and find 3 debits from the card per night. More precisely, not write-offs, but attempts to write off funds... They tried to write off 3.5 pounds (those that are very popular in Britain), but translated into ours it turns out to be 390 rubles (at that time they gave 112 rubles for 1 pound). I had 325 rubles in my account. Fuck off, scammers! The only thing that saved me was that the amount was just a little short!

Let's return to the letters. I wrote a letter where I described in detail all my actions, sent screenshots from the Internet bank and attached the morning letter with the change of data. Please note that I wrote on [email protected] and at that moment the thought that I needed to write in non-Russian did not occur to me. The company is international, they work all over the world and this particular email address is listed on the Russian-language website! A little later, I decided to write a post on , where I tagged #uber and , in the hope that the company would respond faster through the social network. Don’t think that I’m a completely insolent guy who wants to solve his problems with a simple hashtag or mention! They also react very quickly to such methods of communication, unlike UBER, as I found out. By the way, I never received a response to my post from the taxi drivers, although I later received a response on Facebook, but for a different request.

While I was writing letters on social networks and thinking about the card, the electricity was cut off at my house and I had to go to the city. I visited my friends in , talked about life and, of course, I mentioned my problem. It was calm in my friends’ office and I, lounging on the sofa, opened my laptop in the hope of seeing at least some response from UBER. I have never examined the Spam folder so thoroughly :) Alas, there was nothing from taxi drivers there either. Desperate that it would not be possible to solve the problem quickly (about 2 hours had already passed since I wrote the letter), I decided to play it safe and CALLED THE BANK. In such cases, I strongly recommend contacting your bank and asking them about further actions with the card! As always, I am grateful to the technical support of Tinkoff Bank and personally to Ilya, who listened to me carefully and suggested several ways to solve my problem. Here they are:

  • block the card,
  • reduce the payment threshold to “0”,
  • disable purchases “without the presence of a card” (I think that’s what it’s called), that is, disable online purchases.

I chose the last option, since I still intended to use the card and the other options did not suit me in terms of the speed of reverse renewal. Unblocking the card after applying again could only take a few hours, or even not unblock it at all... As a result, I could use the card in a store, top up the balance, but there was no way to buy something via the Internet - what I needed in this situation!

After communicating with the bank, I decided to try my luck again on the Internet and look for some other ways to communicate with the bank. And then I accidentally came across the UBER page on VKontakte, where I found an attached “Support Center” topic at the top, which contained little information. Well, very little. BUT VERY USEFUL!

At first I didn’t pay attention to the mail address that was indicated: it was late in the evening, my eyes were already blurred, but after taking a closer look, I saw what I was looking for - [email protected] ! Yes, yes, it was the Moscow technical support mail. Without thinking twice, I forwarded my first original letter in hopes of getting a slightly faster response. In addition, out of anger, he wrote an angry-kind post on the UBER page saying that “they were all completely stunned there?” After 5 minutes I see a call from the number +7 495 120 17 16 (I leave it just in case, although when I call it the guy says that “you’ve got into UBER” and offers to write a letter to the mailbox [email protected]). In anticipation of the outcome, I pick up the phone and a madam named Elena introduces herself to me as an UBER TP employee. My joy knew no bounds - I finally heard the voice of a living employee! The girl told me that she had just seen my email and promised to solve my problem as quickly as possible. A couple of minutes later I received a response from the UBER page to my angry-kind post. “The manager will contact you, if the money was stolen, we will return it.” No hello, no goodbye, no apologies for the inconvenience!

It was already late and my friends’ office was already closing - I went to a coffee shop to check the functionality of the card, and at the same time wait for answers from Elena. Within 30 minutes I received a letter from Elena, where she apologized for the inconvenience caused, said that UBER’s security system was simply top class and the reason for the hack could have been “the current situation, when the account ended up in the hands of attackers, was not due to imperfections in the security scheme, but most likely due to Leaks of login-password combinations from other sites". It’s not that I was surprised by this answer, but I was very wary! Even in the afternoon, when I was just writing the first letter to TP, I had already looked at all my accounts at the same time: mail, social networks and services, making sure that everything was working properly and that everything was set correctly in the security settings and without obvious holes! So I won’t know about the real reason... There were also instructions in the letter to restore my account: you need to send a scan of your passport and name Last 4 digits from the linked card. After I sent all the data to Elena’s email, I received a letter with a link to access my account, a temporary password and wishes of all the best. We can assume that the problem has been solved and I have access to my UBER account! U-f-f-f...

Summary and thoughts on safety

Friends, I always say that you need to protect your data from iCloud, Mail, Gmail and so on. In addition to a simple login-password combination, it is extremely important to connect, link your phone number or ! What conclusions can I draw from what happened:

  • be calm, don't panic and believe that everything will be fine!
  • always use strong passwords and do not use the same password for the most important services, especially for mail and social networks!
  • as fast as possible contact technical support service that has been hacked, do not put it off until later and do not brush off the problem!
  • try to pay for purchases online use a separate card, and it can also be virtual with a small limit.
  • in case of problems related to cards in one way or another, contact your bank: sometimes you can find a compromise solution, as in my case.
  • make sure that no other services were hacked and they are still yours (if your email was also hacked, you must first regain access to it);

Friends, please take a walk take a closer look at your email and social media accounts. Make sure you have backup recovery addresses connected everywhere and your phone number is connected! Go over all, even unimportant services, because having gained access to Instagram, for example, an attacker will want to use your same login/password on other services, and if the passwords are the same everywhere, then this can end in disaster.

And finally, what do I think about UBER itself? I like the service and I will continue to use it, but with an eye on my sad experience. I really don’t understand the situation when, having several tools for logging into the service at once (email address, password and phone number), the true owner cannot quickly restore access to the service?! Why is there no local office mail address on the Russian-language website, but only a foreign one? Why is there no adequate user support on the official Facebook page and no local mail? Why is it not possible to call and speed up the solution to the problem? I can’t find an answer to all these “whys”...

P.S. Special thanks to Tinkoff Bank for wonderful technical support, as well as to Konstantin Kim for correcting this text!

How to delete your UBER account

The dust has settled, the account has been restored, but for now I don’t risk using UBER again. I was already thinking about deleting my UBER account, but the solution was not found immediately, and only on some German site!

Why I decided to delete my UBER account: I would leave this account alone and use it whenever necessary, but there is one BUT - you cannot unlink your bank card! But at the moment, all the cards I use contain money on them, and untying one money card and linking another is nonsense! Therefore, you cannot do without deleting your account.

First, you need to go to the site and scroll to the very bottom of the page, where you need to click on the “More>>” button in the Profile section and at the very bottom click on the “I would like to delete my account” button:

This will open a new window asking you to log into your account if you have not already completed the authentication process on the site. Enter your account login information and click the “Login” button. If you have already logged into your account earlier, a window will immediately open to confirm the deletion of your account, where you can leave any comments and click on the “Submit” button:

If everything is done correctly, then after some time you should receive a notification in the mail about the deletion of your account. I haven’t received anything in 2 days... Super bad UBER support :)

And I was also pleased with the phrase “There is no risk in saving the account...” Yep, no! 🙂

UPD. Finally, the answer came from UBER, and as you might have guessed, it is in English. It’s not that I don’t understand English, it’s just that requests to Russian-language UBER support could be redirected to “more local” offices...

If you have any questions about service or assistance for Uber, then you need to contact Uber technical support. If this is your first time encountering this, you will be somewhat upset by the kind of support offered by the reverse service. For those who don’t know, we remind you that the company does not have direct contacts through which you can reach them with a complaint or other question.

For this purpose, so-called alternative exit routes have been created. This refers to online chat support, to which employees respond as quickly as possible. Alternatively, you can use email, however, it is extremely ineffective for urgent matters. It is also possible to contact using the application. Perhaps this is the simplest and most interesting way. All you have to do is go to the help section, where you will find the appropriate menu where your problems will be listed. Typically, support is provided within a few minutes, depending on the complexity.

How to write to Uber support?

Tech support for the uber service provides several communication options with it, by the way, which we listed above. These are three main types of requests that are possible through email, online chat or software. Of course, there are hotline numbers, however, in most cases, they are intended to solve problems with partners. And requests related to the quality of service are initially dealt with by these sources.

For clarity, let's take a closer look at how you can contact support from the program. So, initially, what you need is to open the program. Find the Uber support help tab there, study all the sections and select the one that most accurately describes the essence of your question. If the section does not find an answer to a specific query regarding your situation, Uber allows you to ask your question online.

By the way, if the problem is of a specific nature, concerns a specific trip, then you better contact the trip section. In a particular situation, you can ask the question in the same way. By the way, not every section has such a tab, so if you still haven’t found a full explanation and in the menu you are interested in, there is no tab to ask a query, just go to another menu and ask the question you are interested in.
