Your computer must meet (or exceed) the minimum system requirements to run Windows XP. You can find information about the components of your computer in its instruction manual or using DirectX diagnostics.

    • To run DirectX Diagnostics, open the Run dialog (press WinKey + R), enter DXDIAG and click OK.
    • Minimum system requirements
      • Processor: 300 MHz (Intel or AMD)
      • RAM: 128 MB
      • 1.5 GB of free disk space
      • Video card: Super VGA (800x600)
      • CD / DVD-ROM
      • Keyboard and Mouse
      • AC adapter (for network connection)
      • Sound card and speakers or headphones
  1. Find your Windows XP key. It is printed on a sticker on the disc box or on the system unit. A key is a set of 25 characters, divided into 5 groups (5 characters per group). You will need a key to complete the Windows installation.

Configure your computer to boot from a CD / DVD drive (not a hard drive). This will allow you to boot from the installation disc. You can change the boot order in the BOOT menu in the BIOS.

Create users. After activating the system, a window will open in which you can create users. Enter your name and the names of people who will be working on this computer. Click Next to continue.

  • Remember to set the BIOS to boot priority from CD. Older computers have BIOS options to boot from floppy disk, HDD, and CD-ROM. You need to select the CD-ROM as the first boot device.
  • If you encounter difficulties during the installation process, Windows Installer will provide detailed information about the error. Find the error on this site and read on how to fix it.
  • The installation will take 15 to 40 minutes. It all depends on the speed of your computer. It is better not to leave your computer, since during the installation process you need to configure the network settings, time, and the like.

Congratulations, Windows XP has been successfully installed!

Hello dear guests and readers of the blog site. Today we have a topic: Many novice computer users often encounter such a problem. This problem, of course, arises for them due to ignorance of the basics of working on a computer. They delete, scatter system files, litter the system with unnecessary programs, and so on. As a result, the operating system starts to slow down, freezes, gives errors or refuses to start at all. Of course, it is not always possible to fix these errors, the option remains to restore the system or reinstall the operating system.

Faced with such a problem, users at the level of a beginner or even a teapot are convinced that the computer is broken or something is not working in it. They run to various services for PC maintenance, and lay out a lot of money. Thinking that only a master with the appropriate education can cope with this problem. In fact, installing the Windows XP operating system is not that difficult. Anyone who has a desire can cope with this task.

Computer technology is improving every day, and a modern computer, no one can cause irreparable harm from the software, unless only physically affects it. Therefore, I recommend that you do not be afraid and try to reinstall Windows yourself.

Preparing to install the Windows XP operating system

1 - Installation disc (Installation disc). In order to install the Windows XP operating system on a computer, you must have a disk with the operating system or make a bootable USB flash drive. You can buy or borrow or download it from the Internet. In any case, it is not difficult to find such a disc, if you have the desire. The registration code, which is required when installing the Windows XP operating system, must be on the installation disc. Without this key, you will not be able to install the Windows XP operating system. It is also very important that the CD drive on the computer works well. If the CD drive does not work well, it may happen that you remove the old system and cannot install the new one, because your CD drive will not be able to read the information it needs.

2 - Drivers. Also, in order to install the Windows XP operating system on your computer, you need to have drivers for the hardware installed on your computer. Usually such a disc is included with the purchase of a computer. If it is not there, then the drivers are located on the computer itself, that is, on the hard drive. If they are in partition (C), you need to move them to another local partition.

Installing the Windows XP operating system

In order to start the installation of the Windows XP Operating System, you need to insert the installation disk with Windows XP into the CD-drive. And after you restart your computer, a line will appear on the monitor with the inscription asking you to confirm booting from the CD. Now, press any key, and the installation of the operating system starts automatically.

If this line does not appear, then the function of starting from the drive is disabled, as usually it happens, you need to enable it. This is becoming the most difficult task for beginners. But, in fact, it is not so difficult, try to enable this function in one of the ways given.

The first way - We reboot the computer, immediately press the F8 key several times » (if it does not start, read about configuring Bios to boot from disk), a menu for selecting a boot device appears on the screen. Set the value to DVD / CD_ROM to start booting from the CD drive.

The second way is We reboot the computer, immediately press the "Delete » and we get to "Bios". By controlling the arrow keys up (?), Down (?), Left (?), Right (?), We need to indicate that the first boot device of the computer is the CD-ROM. To do this, find the "Boot" item in the Bios menu

Click on 1st Boot Device Priority (First Boot Device),specify the value "CDROM" for it. Save changes and exit using the F10 key, or return to the main Bios menu, select the Exit & Save menu item.

After rebooting, a line appears that says "Press any key to boot from CD ... .." please confirm booting from CD. Now press any key, the Windows setup program starts.

You no longer need to interfere with the installation process until Windows Setup asks you to.

The first thing you'll see after running the installer is a prompt to accept the Windows XP license agreement. Of course, you should agree and accept the terms by pressing the F8 key.

Then there will be a proposal to restore the old Operating System. Press the key « Esc », and thus we refuse . Next, select the partition on which the installation program will install Windows, press the "Enter" key.

After we have selected the desired partition for the future operating system, we will be offered four options for formatting it. We choose « Format partition in NTFS system » (FAT system - already obsolete) and press "Enter".

After that, the computer will reboot and continue its work, you do not need to do anything.

After a while, the installer will ask you to select the language and country of your computer, "Language and regional standards" select and click "OK".

Continuing its installation, the installation wizard will ask you to enter a username and organization name, enter at least a name. Click "Next".

Next, the installation program will ask for a "Product Key", you need to enter the code of the Windows being installed, where to get the product code is described in the section (Installation disc). Enter the product code, (the keyboard language can be changed by holding down the "Alt" key and press "Shift") . Click "Next".

Then a window will appear "Computer name and administrator password"... We give it a name and a password to protect access to the computer, if you don’t want to bet, do not change anything, leave it blank. Click "Next".

The long process of installing the Windows XP operating system on the computer is approaching its completion, and we are asked to intervene again and adjust the date, time, and select the time zone, having done this, click "Next".

- Well, that's all, the long installation process is over, you just have to wait for the Windows installation to complete.

After the installation is complete, the computer will automatically restart. After starting the operating system, remove the installation disc. Congratulations, the installation of the Windows XP operating system on your computer is complete.

Do not forget to go to "Bios" and change the value back "1st Boot Device Priority" on "HDD".

I would be grateful if in the comments you express your opinion about the installation of the Windows Xp operating system on your computer.

Good luck to you!.

Watch the video tutorial. Installing Windows Xp

Part 2.

Installing Windows XP, and Windows in general, is a simple but long process.

I will tell you how to do this without resorting to the help of specialists / computer friends. So, the whole process is divided into 3 logical stages:

  • Stage I: Preparation
  • Stage II: Installation
  • Stage III: Setting

Stage I: Preparing to install Windows

Before proceeding with the installation of Windows, you need to copy all the important information and settings so as not to lose them.
There are many different ways to do this, and I will not go through all the options, but focus on the most basic ones.

This completes our preparations, and you can proceed directly to the installation.

Stage II: Installing Windows

So, now we are prepared and you can proceed directly to the installation.
We insert the disc with our cherished Windows XP into the drive and ... no, we do not install it. Don't even think about installing the Operating System from the Operating System itself! We need to reboot and enter into suspended animation bios (from the word B asic I nput / O utput S ystem). To enter it, you need to press the Del button or F2 if you have a laptop when you boot your computer. Although in some cases you need to press other keys, so see what is written at the bottom of the monitor screen. there will be an inscription like "press del to enter setup".

Finally Windows is installed, you have rebooted, now you can remove the installation disc and proceed to the third stage.

Stage III: Configuration after Windows installation

We take out our installation disc and start setting up.

  1. Drivers and what to do about it.
First of all, you need to install drivers so that the computer knows what to do with what, and in general can feel comfortable.
    • We insert the disk from the motherboard. It is important for us to install 3 drivers: chipset, audio (audio) and Internet (ethernet). But if the program offers you more, then we agree to such a courtesy and install. We reboot so that the drivers are fully installed.
    • If there are no disks, then we remember where we downloaded our drivers from the official sites and install them from there.
    • We insert the disc from our video card. As you may or may not have noticed, if you drag the windows, you can see that they move in jerks. This indicates that you do not have a video driver installed. So install the video driver from the disk and reboot.
    • Then we proceed in the same way and install the rest of the equipment. For example, scanner, printer, tablet, mouse, keyboard, etc.
  2. Successfully Installed or how to determine if everything is in place
We need to make sure that we haven't forgotten anything and that all the drivers are up correctly. This is not difficult to do. Go to Control Panel -\u003e System -\u003e Hardware -\u003e Device Manager... As you can see, here we have all our installed hardware listed. If there is a question icon next to something, it means that the driver for this device is not installed and the system does not know what to do with this equipment. If you find such an icon, then read next to what it stands and install the driver for this device. Ideally, there should be no question marks at all, as, for example, here:

    3. Optimizing or freeing memory.
For more comfortable work, in the section where you have Windows installed, nothing extra should be installed, it is also advisable not to have a paging file on it and the temp folder. This is what we will do now.
  3. Does not allow the Internet?
Remember, we wrote down incomprehensible numbers on a piece of paper? Now you need to write them back. To do this, follow point 3 of the first stage

This completes the whole process. You now have brand new Windows, which is already configured. You can use

Afterword

It seems as if all this is very difficult and incomprehensible, but after 10-20 identical actions and Windows installations, you will do it instantly. And there is really nothing complicated in installing the OS, it just takes a little more time and attention

Now I would like to stipulate some points that somehow did not fall within the scope of this article.

  1. When writing this article, I considered only the disc with the official copy of Windows XP. I do not consider various assemblies like Zver, Philka, etc. And, although installing assemblies is practically the same as installing a licensed copy of Windows XP, you put the assembly at your own peril and risk.
  2. I didn’t consider registering your Windows XP because the process is very straightforward whether your key is printed on the disc box or it was sent to you by mail.
  3. I did not consider the possibility of installing drivers from special programs, since I do not consider this option safe enough.

PS: The article was written by a person hiding under the nickname “barn4k“ (friend and project assistant). For which many thanks to him.

You will also need device drivers installed in your computer (chipset, sound card, video card, webcam, etc.)

Burning the Windows XP installation disc

To burn a Windows installation disc, we need a disc image, an image burning program, a CD burner, and the CD itself.

Download the Windows XP SP3 Professional disk image

Any program for burning discs that supports burning from an iso image, for example, Nero or DeepBurner, which can be downloaded for free, will work.

So, we downloaded the disk image, installed the DeepBurner program. Now let's look at the process of burning a disc.

Insert a blank CD-R disc into your drive and launch DeepBurner. After launching DeepBurner, it prompts you to select the type of project to create.

We choose Burn ISO image and click Next.

I don't know about you, but my project window opened in a compressed form. Therefore, you need to stretch it by grabbing the lower right corner with the mouse or expand it to full screen so that it looks like in the figure below.

In the project window, click the button with three dots (Browse) and select the file of the downloaded iso-image of the Windows XP installation disk. In our case, this is the file ZverCDlego_9.2.3.iso.

Now you need to select the recording speed and press the button Burn ISO... In order for the disc to burn better, the speed should be selected slightly less than the maximum. Now it remains to wait for the disc to be written. After the Windows XP SP3 installation disc has finished burning, the drive tray will pop out by itself. The disc is ready!

Windows XP (internal version - Windows NT 5.1) - operating system (OS) of the Windows NT family of Microsoft corporation. It was released on October 25, 2001 and is an evolution of Windows 2000 Professional. The name XP comes from the English. eXPerience (experience).

As of February 2013, Windows XP was in second place after Windows 7 with a share of 19.1%. The maximum of this value was 76.1% and was reached in January 2007.

How to install Windows XP from disk via BIOS

Now it's time to review the process itself installing Windows XP on a computer from a disk.

First of all, you need to configure boot from the floppy drive in the BIOS. To do this, go to the BIOS menu. How to do this may differ depending on the motherboard model. In most cases, this menu can be accessed by pressing the button Del (on some models of motherboards, you need to press the key F2) after turning on the computer (during the startup splash screen). Better to press this key several times to be sure.

The BIOS menu differs depending on the manufacturer and version. There are two main types of BIOS: AMI and AWARD.

Below are screenshots of AWARD BIOS. You need to go to the menu Advanced BIOS Features.

Here in the menu item First Boot Device press Enter and select CD-ROM

After that, press the Esc key to exit to the previous menus, where to select the item Save and Exit Setup... That's it, now the first device to boot a computer will be a DVD drive. You can go to the process installing Windows XP from disk.

Now let's look at how to set boot from disk to AMI BIOS

Selecting a tab Boot, and in it we go to the menu Boot Device Priority

We put the first boot device (1st Boot Device) CD-ROM or DVD-ROM (your drive model)

In some BIOS versions, the first device is selected after pressing the Enter key on the desired item and selecting a device, in other devices they move up and down using the F5 and F6 keys or + and -

After that, you need to exit to the main menu with the Esc key and go to the tab Exit... Select item Exit and Save Changes to save changes and exit.

Now let's look at the process itself installing Windows XP from disk to computer.

We insert the installation disc into the drive and restart the computer. The disc menu below appears.

Choose an item Installing Microsoft Windows XP SP3 in manual mode and press Enter.

It should be warned that installing Windows XP SP3 on a computer takes about 40 minutes. So please be patient.

On the first screen, press the Enter key to continue with the installation.

In the next step, read the license agreement and press the F8 key

Now select the disk partition where you want to install Windows XP. If the hard disk is new and not yet formatted, you need to create a partition by pressing C.

Select the section and press Enter. If the section already existed, you need to confirm the installation in this section by pressing the key FROM.

In the next step, the installer prompts you to format the disk. Choose an item Format partition in NTFS system (Fast) and press Enter.

Press the key to confirm formatting. F

After formatting, the process of copying the necessary files to the hard disk will begin.

After copying the files, the computer will restart.

When the computer boots, it will start again from the bootable CD. In the disc menu, select the item

A window for selecting driver packages to unpack and install will open. These are built-in drivers for many devices included in this assembly. If you are installing Windows XP from a Microsoft distribution kit, this window will not appear.

Select the required driver packages by ticking the boxes and click OK. If you don't know exactly which drivers are needed and which are not, select all. If you have disks with drivers for all devices (motherboard, video card, etc.), then uncheck all the boxes to speed up the OS installation process. In this case, you will need to install the drivers manually from the disks after the Windows installation is complete. Read more here: How to install Windows XP drivers.

After clicking OK, the unpacking of the driver packages will begin, and when it is finished, the Windows installation will continue.

The next window for selecting the language and regional standards will appear. If the distribution kit is Russian version of Windows XP, then nothing needs to be changed here.

In the next window, you must enter the product key and click the button Further.

A window will appear in which you need to enter the computer name and administrator password. You can leave nothing in this window. Then the administrator password will not be set.

In the time and date settings window, set the correct date and time, as well as the time zone.

In the OS network parameters window, select Common parameters and click Further.

In the workgroup window, write the name of the workgroup or domain in which the computer participates. If you do not have a home or office network, you can leave everything unchanged and click Further.

After that, the installation of Windows will continue, after which the computer will automatically restart.

We go into BIOS and set it to boot from the hard disk first, as described at the beginning of the article. We exit BIOS with saving changes.

Now before how to completely install Windows XP on a computer the last minutes remained.

At boot, the system will offer to automatically adjust the screen resolution. Click OK.

In the Windows XP welcome window, click Further.

A window will appear prompting you to select the Windows update mode.

We choose Postpone this action to disable automatic system updates and press the button Further.

The next window will ask you to configure your Internet connection. Push Skip.

We refuse the offer to register by selecting the item No, some other time and press Further.

In the final window, click Done.

That's all! Now you know how to install Windows XP from the installation disc to your computer.

It remains to install drivers and programs, but this is beyond the scope of this article.
