The "lowest" category of viruses. Progenitor Virus and T-Virus
So-called progenitor virus or The Maternal Virus, which initiated both the Umbrella Corporation and its development in the field of biological weapons, was discovered by a group of scientists including Edward Ashford, James Marcus and Ozwell Spencer on December 4, an unknown year. Presumably in the early 60s. Known Data from Progenitor Research.
In terms of action on living organisms, it seems to be relatively selective. Impact results are unpredictable and ambiguous. It can affect both humans and lower-organized forms of the living world. There is no known uniform effect on humans from the virus. First known experimental specimen (November 1967) - Lisa Trevor. Introduction of the Progenitor Virus:

- Jessica:
Control virus: Type-A.

Symbiosis with the virus: Negative.
Action: Localized.

- Lisa:
Controlling virus: Type-B.
Increased cellular plasma activity.
Virus symbiosis: Positive, but delayed fusion.
Body mutation: Permanent results are observed.
The result of the introduction of the virus and the subsequent mutation was the destruction of the consciousness of the experimental object. However, it is impossible to draw any conclusions about Lisa: during her stay in Arkley, she was stuffed with all kinds of viruses, which makes it difficult to isolate the effect of each of them separately. Only one thing can be said for sure - apparently, Spencer and Co. were very lucky that they came across an object with extraordinary DNA: Lisa continued to live throughout the past years and the experiments put on her. Neither the Progenitor nor the T-Virus killed her. What William and Wesker failed to reproduce with other objects.

Data on the action of the Progenitor on other living organisms:

Currently, studies have shown that when the Progenitor virus is introduced into a living organism, it causes irreversible cellular changes leading to weakening of immunity or death. In addition, no satisfactory method of controlling the body has been found to use it as a weapon. Clearly, an increase in interconnection at the cellular level will make it possible to significantly accelerate further development.

Insecta
These ancient organisms were probably genetic carriers for millennia, but when the Progenitor virus is activated, they show only instant, accelerated growth and increased aggressiveness. It is extremely difficult to define their prospects as B.O.W ....
Amphibia
Injection of the virus to the frog resulted in an increase in jump power and abnormal tongue growth. However, there is no change in intelligence. In addition, the test object's abnormal appetite caused it to attack any moving objects. Usefulness as B.O.W. limited.
Mammalia
The experiment of crossing the Progenitor virus with monkey DNA resulted in increased reproduction. Initial results showed increased aggressiveness and increased intelligence. (The side effect was visual impairment, but this was compensated by the improvement in hearing). However, as a weapon, they are unsatisfactory. Apparently, progress is impossible if you do not use a person as a carrier.
Virus transmission method: unknown.
Availability of antivirus: unknown.
Output. The possibilities of the Progenitor as an independent virus are very limited. Objects that have passed the infection cannot be controlled. An increase in mental capacity in arthropods and amphibians has not been noticed. The destruction of the psyche and consciousness is observed in people.

T virus Derived from the Progenitor Virus by Dr. James Markus using leech DNA. The date the virus was discovered seems very confusing to me. On the one hand, we know from Wesker Report # 2 that by the time Wesker and William were appointed to the Arklay Laboratory (July 1978), the T-virus was already in existence. In addition, it is clear from CV Alexander Ashford's note that the T-virus was discovered before 1970. Since, on the basis of it, Alexander began the development of the T-Veronica, which he used to create his children - Alfred and Alexia. It is known that their year of birth is 1971. On the other hand, the diary of Markus from Zero contains an entry of the following nature:

February 11th
Today again someone tried to break into the laboratory. We need to come to an agreement with them somehow. We need to bring William and Albert up to date - only two of them I trust. Apart from my lovely leeches, of course. But I won't just leave Spencer! At the next meeting of the directors of the Company, I will introduce a “T” to everyone and will rest on my laurels.

Year not specified. However, if William and Wesker are mentioned and in the vein that Markus trusts them, this is clearly a long way away (a few years later) after 1978. Which cannot be, since Marcus could not wait for the "official presentation" for 10 years, at a time when Edward and Alexander Ashfords were already working with him in the late 60s. Therefore, I will assume that the T-virus was created just then - some time after the Progenitor.
The T-virus has an extremely low selectivity when exposed to living organisms. It is able to affect plants, fungi, worms, arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, including humans. However, the effect of the virus has a different effect and depends both on the characteristics of a given individual and on external conditions. But it lends itself well to unification. The mechanism of action of the virus on humans and all other living organisms is very different.

Known modifications of B.O.W. based on the T-virus:
Zombie
Lizuny
Hunters
Mad Dogs (Cerberus)
Long-armed
Albinoids
Leeches
Plant-42
Plants (from RE2)
Chimeras
Shark
Tyrants

All other infected creatures - spiders, crows, snakes, worms, moths, cockroaches, giant alligator and others - are in the reports on B.O.W. are not mentioned and appear to be a byproduct of a virus leak. That is, their mutations were uncontrollable. Although I think giant spiders are still like B.O.W. could develop initially and purposefully.

The mechanism of action of the T-virus and its effect on living organisms.
About the effect of the T-virus on a person, the virus makes him a "living dead", a zombie. Therefore, the virus first kills its host. Initially, this was the task of biological weapons based on the T-virus - it should lead to deaths, acting as a deadly, incurable and highly contagious disease. The transformation of a person after his death into a "living dead" is, so to speak, a pleasant side effect that allows you to "reuse" the victims of the virus as B.O.W.
The spread of the virus.
The virus "in its pure form", that is, through direct contact with its sample, can clearly be infected through the skin ("... Denis touched one, then he developed a severe fever" (c), then the specified Denis follows the classic symptoms of T-virus infection) and mucous membranes. Also, I believe, when ingested with food and water. The virus is most likely not airborne. This is logical, and in one of the RE3 papers there is a remark: "I just discovered that the disease is not transmitted by air, but in some other way."
The second possible case of infection is direct ingestion of the saliva and / or blood of the infected creature into the blood of the victim.
Symptoms of T-virus infection. Increased body temperature, fever; burning and itching of the skin, irritation, gangrene; nausea, abnormal increase in appetite. As a result, the T-virus kills its host. However, the time required for this is different depending on the method of infection.
When infected by direct contact with a virus, it takes 5 to 10 days to kill a person and turn him into a zombie. These data are obtained on the basis of dates from securities. For example, from "Keeper" s Diary, it can be seen that 8 days elapsed between contact with the virus of its author and his loss of consciousness (May 11-19, 1998). From the "Watchman's Diary" you can learn about a certain Thomas, the course of the disease takes about 9 The situation changes dramatically if the infection occurred through the bite of the carrier of the T-virus. In this case, the virus takes no more than a day to kill the victim. Moreover, if she was seriously injured, this facilitates the work of the virus. It is also known that a person infected T-virus, but who died not as a result of the action of the virus, but of the damage received, just as quickly turns into a zombie. "Zombie" - he retains motor functions, but completely loses his intellect. Zombies are driven only by hunger, so they are extremely aggressive and attack living beings in order to eat them. By the way, I don't understand this fact much ten, because after death, metabolic processes are stopped - why should a corpse eat? After all, there is no need to maintain life - it no longer exists. Zombies are not sensitive to pain and have amazing physical stamina. In an amicable way, a zombie can be finally put to rest only by cutting off its head or by burning it (which is observed in Remake and on Hard in RE2), because the dead man no longer has vital organs, the damage of which would be critical. By the way, I am interested in the question - what should be the degree of decomposition of a corpse so that it is no longer able to move? Ideally, zombies should only function until their bodies are decomposed to a certain limit. And the virus was not seen to keep bodies from decaying. Rather, the opposite is true. It is known that only 90% of people can be infected with the T-virus. 10% have immunity to the virus. As you know, Spencer was not satisfied with such results, he needed a 100% effect. Spencer's claims, frankly, seem unfounded to me. For these 9 zombies will easily tear apart 1 person - and that will be a 100% effect. To turn into a zombie does not need a specific external influence or condition. This effect is, as it were, basic. Further mutation can proceed (the condition of occurrence is not known) as follows:

The so called Crimson Heads.

Now there is confirmation that when the host loses consciousness, the body falls into a coma. During this time, the virus becomes active and rapidly transforms and reshapes the basic structures of the body. The host will eventually mutate into a humanoid being. This rapid and amazing muscle development deserves special attention. After mutation, the object becomes more mobile and aggressive.
Lizuny.

"Lickers are created when a zombie is allowed to mutate further as a result of the T-Virus infection, and can be considered the next stage of mutation of a human host after the" crimson head "stage".

Strikingly different the result of the impact of the T-virus on other life forms... Unlike humans, the virus does not kill them, but leads to a rapid and intense mutation, which is expressed in an abnormal increase in the size of individuals, increased aggressiveness, endurance and level of intelligence, or its appearance (in the case of plants). Examples include spiders, sharks, worms, and others. This also includes Hunters, because they are completely living beings, obtained as a result of the effect of the T-virus on human and reptile DNA and their recombination.
The pinnacle of B.O.W. evolution based on the T-virus are the so-called Tyrants various modifications. I will deliberately not list all of them and their features here, anyone interested can see, for example, here. The main problem of the Tyrant project was that it is possible to obtain it from a person only with the required genotype. Its frequency of occurrence is approximately one case in 100 million. I am wondering how William and Wesker figured it out ... But come on, if they could find out by some indirect evidence, how did they manage to get at least a few suitable people for their tests? And how did you find them? Tyrants are distinguished by immense physical strength, endurance and amazing ability to regenerate. You can kill them only by literally blowing them to pieces. But the main difference from the rest of B.O.W. based on a person, is the presence of at least some intelligence and the relative ability to program the actions of the Tyrant.
A unique case is that of Dr. James Marcus and his leeches. But I will break the "chronological" sequence and give it a place at the end of the article.
Does it exist antivirus against T-virusis not known. There is no mention of him throughout the series. Moreover, it has been emphasized more than once that the medicine does not exist. Only in Outbrokes, as I understood, there is a means to inhibit the action of the virus, but not to neutralize it. Moreover, it was made quite recently. On the one hand, this is quite logical. Spencer wanted a virus that could infect everyone with no hope of healing. Marcus, William, Wesker, and the rest of the scientists who tweaked the T-virus might well have provided this. That is, either the antivirus does not exist in principle, the disease is not curable, or it was not developed on purpose. Considering how many people from Umbrella's staff died as a result of accidents due to a virus leak and / or being hit by infected objects, the first option seems logical. After all, why let them die if you have an antivirus? As for the second assumption, it also makes sense: ordinary scientists may not have known about the existence of the drug. Why does this situation seem strange? Yes, because not only there are antidotes, but even a technology has been developed for the automated production of a vaccine against "viruses of the highest category" - G and the burda that Nemesis infected Jill. And these installations are not too secret. But for some reason, there is no antidote against the T-virus ...

Output. B.O.W.'s biggest problem "Aggressive type" based on the T-virus is low intelligence and lack of control.

And here is Ebola The Ebola virus (first discovered in 1976) is mentioned in Wesker Report # 2 as promising as a B.O.W. It is also noted that William was going to conduct research and development on this virus. However, there is no further mention of whether this virus played any role in Umbrella's development or not. Therefore, one can only guess why the developers mentioned Ebola in the Report. For that "illustrative" example - after all, the disease caused by Ebola is very similar to the defeat of the T-virus. Or so that we think how far the fantasy of the game is from reality?
A small reference on what Ebola is for those who do not know or do not remember. Reading is not recommended for the faint of heart.

Experts first identified Ebola as a separate virus after epidemics in Sudan and Zaire in the mid-1970s. Then about 440 people died. The Zaire type of the virus is still considered the most dangerous, with a mortality rate of 90%. The virus is transmitted from person to person through any contact, symptoms can appear both after a few days and after two weeks. A sick person is a great danger to others, the Ebola virus, like the Marburg virus, is found in many fluids (blood, saliva, secreted nasopharynx, sperm), which determines the contact, sexual and airborne (in contact with saliva) transmission route. Cases of secondary and tertiary spread of infection have been reported, mainly among hospital staff. The virus is isolated from patients for about 3 weeks. Possible transmission of infection through insufficiently sterilized needles and other instruments. When examining the population in many regions of Central Africa, 7% were found to have antibodies to the Ebola virus, which makes it possible to assume the possibility of a mild and even asymptomatic course of infection, which remain undetected, but pose a danger to the further spread of infection. What is Ebola Disease? The virus attacks every organ and every tissue in the human body, with the exception of skeletal muscles and bones. Clots appear in the blood, the blood thickens, slows down, clots begin to accumulate on the walls of blood vessels. There are more and more clots and they are getting thicker, they begin to clog the capillaries, blocking the access of blood to various parts of the body. Parts of the brain, kidneys, liver, lungs, intestines, genitals, and whole parts of the skin begin to die. With particular fury, Ebola attacks the connective tissue, multiplying in collagen - the main protein of the tissues that make our skin, and therefore our body, a single whole. The collagen in the victim's body turns into mush, the subcutaneous body dies and begins to decompose. Involuntary cracks begin to cover the skin, from where blood immediately begins to flow. Red spots grow, become huge bruises, the skin becomes soft, plump, any pressure causes the skin to peel off. The heart bleeds into itself, the heart muscles soften, the blood begins to spill into the chest. Ebola attacks the inner surfaces of the eyeballs, they overflow with blood, a person can go blind. Blood begins to ooze from the eyes, in such quantities that it runs down the cheeks. Blood does not clot. May be hit by a blow to the cerebral hemisphere with partial or complete paralysis. But even at a time when the body is filled with dead coagulated blood, the blood flowing out does not coagulate. If this blood is examined under a microscope, then you can see that the blood is dead. Ebola kills a huge amount of tissue while the host is still alive. Intravital necrosis begins, affecting all internal organs. The liver dies and begins to decompose in the body of the still living affected person. Ebola also destroys the brain, Ebola victims very often fall into epileptic seizures, especially in the final stages of the disease. Blood during a seizure flies in all directions - some devilish trick of the virus, because it is at this time that the infection of others most often occurs, from the blood of the affected person flying in all directions. After death, the corpse suddenly, abruptly, literally before our eyes, decomposes. The fact is that the internal organs of the body have been dead for several days, a kind of "dissolution" of the body, instant decomposition occurs.

Since I have already quoted a lot, I propose to follow this link - at the end of the article there is a section on the possibility of using Ebola as a biological weapon. It is worth considering, perhaps, from fantasy to cruel reality - just a couple of steps.

G virus
Discovered by Dr. William Birkin around 89-90 years of the twentieth century. The material for the creation of the virus was the same Lisa Trevor. During the years that the Progenitor-based viruses were in her body, there seemed to be no significant change. However, after, as it turned out, the incubation period (about 20 years), William was able to isolate from it new virus... It took about 10 years to bring the virus development to completion. We do not know the results of the study of the effect of the G-virus on plants and animals, if they were carried out. The only known virus carrier is its creator. The G-virus is stronger than the T-virus in the sense that it invokes much stronger and faster mutations even without external influence until the death of the infected. That's what the Wesker Report # 2 says, and it seems to be true. However, the point about "mutations even in the absence of external influence" causes me strong doubts. In addition, "the G-Virus has the ability to revitalize cellular functions," which saved its creator from death. However, at a high price ...

Mutations caused by the G-virus.
We do not know exactly when William was shot. However, this can be roughly calculated from indirect facts. First, we know that the mutation began immediately after the introduction of the virus, since the comrades from the U.S.F.U. they didn’t have time to run away yet, and William’s paw had grown and an eye. However, on September 28, 1998, we find it the same and has not yet mutated further. How long has it been since the injection of the G-virus? It is known that the virus takes about a week to turn a person into a zombie. As a result of repeated busting of all the papers, I came to the conclusion (I can then give the dates for those in doubt) that the whole mess in Raikkun began around September 24-25. For the events with earlier dates do not contain any mention of a massive zombie invasion. It is also clear that the whole city could not be flooded with them overnight. In addition, one of the reports contains the following:

September 20th. 21:30 Recorded by Sergeant Neil Carlsen We have received a report of a suspicious person hiding in the sewers on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arrival, we found the suspect, but he managed to escape and we were unable to interrogate him.

I believe it was William. This means that from 24 you can safely subtract about 7-10 days. Consequently, William at RE2 met Leon and Claire 10-14 days after the virus was injected. Further mutation (6 stages were observed) occurred immediately after receiving severe physical damage. This is a very interesting fact. First, in theory, the mutation under the influence of the G-virus should go on continuously and without external influence, but the opposite is observed: for 10 days, William did not particularly mutate, while after eating a couple of kilograms of lead from Leon and Claire in one night he went through several stages. Secondly, I wonder how physical damage can catalyze mutation? Most likely, the subsequent mutation also causes regeneration - therefore, the transition to a new form is carried out after receiving damage in order to regenerate damage. However - does it happen spontaneously or does the creature control the process? It should also be noted that although the G-virus is capable of creating a powerful B.O.W. out of a person, it loses its mind and memory and becomes practically uncontrollable. It is subjected to final destruction, like the best models B.O.W. based on the T-virus, only with a powerful explosion.
Virus transmission and antivirus.

The G virus is transmitted from carrier to carrier by embryo implantation. If the antibodies of the infected host fail to destroy the embryo, it will gradually begin to destroy the host's cellular structures at the molecular level, rewriting their DNA. At the end of this process, the new carrier will be able to continue the described reproduction cycle. The duration of the process may differ for different subjects. In the early stages of the lesion, it is possible to reverse the conversion process using an antigen (G-vaccine).

It should be noted here that the embryo takes root only in the case of genetic affinity with the victim. Otherwise, the embryo kills the host and develops "at will" into an independent individual.

Output. The main drawback of the virus is the complete loss of the carrier's mind and memory.

T-Veronica
Created on the basis of the T-virus by Alexander Ashford in the 70s of the twentieth century and later modified by his daughter Alexia. The samples known to us B.O.W. based on T-Veronica are Alexander Ashford, Steve Burnside and Alexia Ashford. The virus serves as the basis for a powerful biological weapon and differs sharply from the T-virus in properties. It is closest to the action of the G-virus. The result of the impact of the virus on each person is, apparently, purely individual. However, without observing the proper conditions for the experiment, the T-Veronica carrier loses its mind and becomes uncontrollable, like an object exposed to the G-virus. Alexia Ashford modified the virus by using ant genes to create it. She also discovered that the virus must undergo an incubation period in the host's body of 15 years at a low temperature. If this condition is met, a person exposed to Veronica does not lose his mind, memory and controls his actions. However, in order to unleash your potential as a B.O.W., mutation is impossible. On the example of Alexia, we see that the first time she mutates not spontaneously, but quite deliberately, at will - when she goes to fight with Wesker. However, her subsequent mutation (controlled or spontaneous for the purpose of regeneration - not known) also occurs after causing physical damage to her subject, similar to the situation with William. It is also not known whether Alexia, having mutated, managed to preserve her mind into the second and third forms. Cannot be destroyed with conventional weapons like Tyrants and William. The principle of transmission of the virus, except for direct injection into the blood, is not known. The presence of an antivirus is unknown. But it can be assumed that it does not exist. Whether Veronica is able to restore the vital functions of a dying person, like the G-virus, is not known. However, Alexia did nothing to save Alfred with the help of the virus ...

Output. The main advantage of the T-Veronica is the preservation of the mind and memory of an infected person. However, the difficulty lies in fulfilling the necessary conditions.

Here I will return to To Dr. Markus... For the strange effect on him of the T-virus is more like T-Veronica. James Marcus was shot in 1988 by order of Spencer. However, as a result of the hackwork of the performers, he managed to survive. Not without the help of his favorite leeches, exposed to the T-virus, thanks to one of which he survived. Moreover, as a result of the influence of the T-virus, he became pretty much younger and lived, apparently, quite well for 10 years. An interesting fact is that the higher evolution of the T-virus is somehow related to the effect of collective intelligence that appears in low-organized organisms. Leeches in the case of T-Virus and Marcus, ants in the case of T-Veronica and Alexia. And in both cases, researchers who have been exposed to viruses and exposed these organisms to them become their "Queens". However, after 10 years, Marcus began to mutate, and spontaneously, which is interesting. It seems that there was no external influence on him. There is no need to talk about the loss of intelligence and reason - the doctor turned into one big leech. Further mutation obeys a pattern common to all "higher" B.O.W. - under the influence of physical damage. Vulnerable to UV radiation.

R-Epsilon Gas Research Report
R-epsilon gas is considered a universal means of destroying all known BW (biological weapons). In view of this, it is used as a countermeasure in the event of BW proliferation. However, recent research evidence suggests potential side effects. R-epsilon acts by weakening the cellular functions of BO. However, prolonged or repeated exposure to the gas can lead to the formation of adaptive antibodies. Moreover, some BO pitchforks have been shown to absorb P-epsilon and use the toxins isolated from it against external threats. Therefore, the use of P-epsilon gas should only be used in the most extreme cases. We insist on re-equipping the R-epsilon emergency gas spraying system. We also insist that this measure be taken as soon as possible.

Manager's diary
The treatment system has been completed. Using a special kind of gas, this system can decompose guinea pig cells. We have to test the gas before putting the system into practice as it is still not 100% stable.

Disposal of corpses
Special instructions for disposal of corpses.
We have new data on those "creatures". They may look dead, but it turns out they are able to come back to life. However, there are ways to prevent this from happening.
Two methods are currently known to stop their revitalization.
1. BURNING.
2. DESTRUCTION OF THE HEAD.

We were able to determine that the chemicals of the UMB series - UMB # 20, contain elements that quickly destroy the cells of the infected plant.
We gave UMB # 20 a new name: V-JOLT

It should also be noted as a conclusion that almost all B.O.W. Umbrella is not controllable or amenable to a low level of control. Once having released all this to freedom, you can make a grand mess, but control it is not.

At home, in Japan, Resident evil called Biohazard ("Biological threat") and for good reason: the most terrible evil in the games of the series has always been all kinds of viruses, and not at all zombies or mutants. After the release of the first part in 1996, the players have seen so much of all kinds of infection that now you can't really figure out how this mess with biological weapons and the revived dead began.

Young operative Jill Valentine hardly knew what the operation at Spencer's mansion would lead to.

"T-virus"

For several years, Spencer, Ashford and Marcus pursued one goal - to create a drug from the "Progenitor" that will lead humanity to new level... But all experiments with flowers from Africa turned out to be a complete failure: by itself, the "Progenitor" killed almost all the infected - no improvement, only corpses. Then James Marcus combined it with the DNA of the leech and got the "T-virus" - perhaps the most famous infection in the Resident Evil universe.

Compared to the "Progenitor", the "T" (or "Tyrant") virus became a kind of success: it did not kill the carriers, but turned them into mindless bloodthirsty creatures - those very zombies. As a result, the project to improve the human race was forgotten for a while, because on the horizon there was an opportunity to make money on the sale of biological weapons. To keep the viral mess a secret, Spencer, Ashford, and Marcus founded the pharmaceutical company Umbrella, which became an excellent front.

In the cramped corridors of the old mansion, every next such meeting could be the last.

By the late 1970s, several laboratories were working on the development of the "T-virus", including the one under the mansion in the Arkley Mountains, as well as the complex built in Antarctica. In the latter, by the way, Edward Ashford worked with his son. Their research helped in the future to develop a special type of "T-virus" - "T-Veronica". This infection was in many ways similar to the "Tyrant", but in some cases retained the mind of the host.

However, in the end, all versions of the "T" virus became the cause of nightmarish events. Not only did the bio-weapon end up on the black market, and from there into the hands of terrorists and other villains, but also the lion's share of the laboratory teams working on the virus fell victim to their own achievements.

The first major T-Virus incident occurred in 1998 at Ozwell Spencer's mansion in the Arklay Mountains. The first Resident Evil is dedicated to these events: the players, along with the main characters, Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, find themselves in a mysterious estate, discover a secret laboratory and learn a terrible secret about the development of a deadly virus.

"G-virus"

In the same 1998, two months after the events in the Spencer mansion, disaster struck the city of Raccoon, located not far from the estate. Almost the entire population suddenly turned into zombies, and the fate of the survivors at that moment seemed even sadder. This is due to the events that took place shortly before the disaster in the Umbrella complex, built right under the city (yes, another complex). And in the very center of these events was the "G-virus".

Raccoon could not survive the zombie epidemic - he was simply destroyed.

But that was not the case: the top of Umbrella found out about this and set a special detachment on Birkin. The warriors did not look for the guilty and, without question, shot one of the most valuable employees of the company. Before his death, Birkin managed to inject himself with the "G-virus" and turned into a formidable monster, who easily interrupted the entire squad. During the massacre, the mutated Birkin touched containers with the "T-Virus", and he fell into the sewers of Raccoon. As a result - thousands of bloodthirsty zombies on the city streets. The main characters, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, managed to pacify Birkin.

Dr. Birkin turned into such a handsome man after he injected himself with the "G-virus".

On the black market, the "G-virus" was not as popular as the "T", but this infection was also used - it was combined with the "T-Veronica" virus and got the "C-virus". The latter, if injected, turns the hosts into J'avo, terrifying creatures similar to zombies, but intelligent enough to use weapons and communicate with their own kind. These monsters first appeared in.

Trip to Spain

For the first time, Leon Kennedy, the protagonist of the fourth part, encounters Las Plagas. He arrives in a Spanish village where, according to rumors, the kidnapped daughter of the American president is being held. There he is attacked by locals, who at first behave like zombies, and then amazed with the ability to grow vile tentacles (or something like that) instead of a head and generally do not behave like a gentleman.

Shot off the enemy's head? It doesn't matter, he will grow a new one.

Ouroboros virus

Now is the time to return to Africa - to the place where Ozwell Spencer found the unfortunate flowers in 1966, from which the Progenitor virus was then derived. In general, the story of the main infection in the Resident Evil series for several decades has circled the globe and returned to its place of origin - just like the Ouroboros snake biting its own tail. Perhaps this is why Albert Wesker, one of the most dangerous characters in the world of "Resident Evil", named his creation after this creature. However, there can be many interpretations of the name.

Resident Evil 5 can be played together, and the partner makes the task much easier.

Ouroboros became the third virus created on the basis of the Progenitor. Albert Wesker, a former employee of the Umbrella corporation, set out to complete Ozwell Spencer's plan - the same one to improve the human race. There was only one problem: Wesker wanted to bring people to a new level of development in an extremely dangerous way - by spraying the Ouroboros virus in the air over all continents. The fact that the lion's share of the population would perish was of little concern to the villain.

And the "new level of development" itself seemed wild to normal people: more often than not, "Ouroboros" turned an unprepared person into a terrible mess of hundreds of worm-like appendages. Nevertheless, Wesker, without any problems, launched the production of the virus in Africa, closer to the very cave where the "stairway to the sun" flowers with the necessary properties grow.

Wesker's plans were destroyed by Chris Redfield: during the events, he, along with his partner Sheva Alomar, killed Albert, and on the way saved his longtime acquaintance Jill Valentine.

Evelina (spoilers!)

What is "Evelina" and where it came from is not really clear. In Resident Evil 7, the infection appears in the form of a girl of ten years old - this is how the infected see her, whose mind completely belongs to Evelina. The rest will see a feeble old woman in front of them - the rate of aging in a child is much higher than that of an ordinary person.

Evelina is a pale-looking old woman in a wheelchair on the left.

Whether Evelyn can be called a virus is also not known. The girl with the code name E001 is the result of work on a new biological weapon, her creator is an unknown corporation (according to some reports, it may be Tentsu). Apparently, "Evelina" is based on some kind of mushrooms: the infected first see hallucinations, and then become covered with black muck, similar to mold. Growing new limbs for such monsters is a common thing.

Nevertheless, all these facts only add questions. Let's hope that the authors will answer at least some of them in the upcoming additions. Well, we will probably find out more about Evelyn in the next part of the series.

All familiar faces!

There are even more spoilers here, so read at your own risk!

It's no secret that in the seventh part, the developers moved away from the main events of the series. Nevertheless, it was not without links with other games. Here are the most notable references to previous Resident Evil titles.

In the Baker house there is a picture of the Arkley Mountains, where the first T-Virus incident occurred in 1998.

At some point, the protagonist of Resident Evil 7 receives the Albert-01 Pistol pistol. Is this a reference to Albert Wesker, or just a coincidence?

At the end of the game, the protagonist is evacuated by a character who introduces himself as Redfield. This is probably about Chris, but is this the hero we know?

Even more doubt about the identity of "Chris Redfield" is left by a helicopter with a modified Umbrella emblem on the hull.

As you can see, the main evil in Resident Evil is viruses and people trying to use these same viruses at any opportunity. Fortunately, most often villains themselves become victims of their ambitions and turn into monsters. And then, according to the established tradition, they die from a shot from a rocket launcher.

In the first film, even before the sabotage, the mutant Lizun was obtained by direct injection of the virus into the subject's body. He possessed great strength, the ability to move on walls and ceilings and the ability to absorb the genetic material of victims, becoming stronger. It was distinguished from other infected by its large size, the visible absence of eyes and a mouth dotted with sharp teeth. In the second film, several such creatures were already hunting people in the church, where several survivors took refuge.

At the end of the first film, Matthew Addison (eng. Matthew addison) gets infected with a virus. Scientists turn him into a special mutant cyborg - Nemesis ( Nemesis) - and pit him against Alice ( Alice), the second survivor. In the end, he rebels against his creators and dies under the wreckage of a helicopter. Nemesis possessed intelligence, freely used all types of weapons.

Dr. Isaacs, having contracted the virus at the end of the third film, injected himself with an antivirus and retained his sanity, but still mutated and at the same time acquired the ability to grow tentacles, with which he could kill from a distance. He considered himself the next step in evolution. Despite the fact that he regenerated faster than the infected ones that appeared in films before him, he, too, was not immortal.

Alice was also infected, but she was able to adapt the virus and use it to enhance her abilities, which only increased from film to film. In the fourth film, she is injected with a virus blocking agent.

In the fourth film, several more varieties of zombies appeared, in particular, zombie diggers (majini), able to dig tunnels and get to victims from under the ground, the new kind dogs (adyula), whose heads could be divided vertically, forming a huge mouth, studded with sharp teeth (two individuals appeared, which were soon killed), and the executioner - a zombie giant, wielding a huge ax, with which he broke through the prison gate, where they hid the survivors, thereby letting in the zombies swarming around, and the deceased only when his head was completely blown off. On the supposedly "the only one unaffected viral infection place - the city of Arcadia in Alaska ", in fact, on the ship where experiments were carried out on people, and owned by" Umbrella "was a former employee of the secret service" Umbrella "Albert Wesker ( Albert wesker) and was also infected, but retained his sanity and was practically invulnerable. He couldn't adapt the virus as well as Alice, so he wanted to "swallow her DNA." In the ensuing skirmish, Wesker was wounded, including in the head, and fled. However, while trying to blow up the ship as a Tokyo hub, he found a bomb in his tiltrotor. During the explosion, something flies off the tiltrotor, and then, in the next scene, we see a parachute descending with something ...

In the fifth film, Wesker returned and re-infected Alice with the virus, turning her into a weapon again, as the Red Queen set out to destroy humanity.

The T-virus is one of the most dangerous among its own kind, is the basis of many other viruses that are popular with a number of bioterrorists. In 1978, scientist James Marcus crosses the Stairway to the Sun Ancestor virus and leech DNA to form the T-virus. In many ways it is similar to common viruses, but not in everything. Since the T-virus can come into contact with the cell membrane, it can recode the very genetic component, which is responsible for the functions of an elementary unit of the body. As a result, the cell begins to reproduce the original virus and infect others. The process becomes irreversible, and then the body is completely infected with a virus.

The T-virus first kills and then replaces the mitochondrial organelles. The virus then combines with other cells. It takes control of neurons and is able to control the lower brain functions of a creature, even if the owner has already died. Therefore, a person infected with the T-virus will finally die only when his brain is destroyed. The virus is unique for each creature, as it includes the DNA of the host, so sometimes the signs of the virus can differ in different animals.

However, the T-virus can only function properly when it receives energy. It is because of this that those infected with the virus attack other people and try to eat fresh flesh in order to maintain their performance. Victims of the virus have only one instinct to eat. But it is still unknown how long a zombie (as people who have been infected are called) can live without "food".

If a person has been infected, the T-virus first destroys almost completely his brain, leaving only the cerebellum to control behavior. During infection, there is a massive spread of neurotransmitters, enzymes and hormones such as norepinephrine, or as it is called norepinephrine, and dopamine. Because of this, the infected often show the following symptoms: anger, constant hunger, aggressiveness. A person can become infected with just one zombie bite.

When a person or other creature is dead and exposed to a virus, they have enough energy to revive the lower brain functions that are responsible for walking and eating.

If a person remains alive after being infected with the virus, then the time of the stage of the T-virus spreading through the body may be delayed. But if a dead person is infected, then the virus takes control of the body almost instantly, in a few seconds.

VIRUS ANCESTOR

The history of the Ancestor virus begins in West Africa. It was opened on December 4, 1966 by Lord Oswell Spencer. This is a very powerful mutagen that, at certain doses, can cause cancer, it played a huge role in the culture of the West African tribe N'Dipaya. This virus is contained in the Ladder to the Sun flowers. This name comes from the custom of the tribe, during which a new ruler was elected. Attempts to grow flowers correctly in other conditions did not give any result: they did not have the virus. It can be assumed that for its appearance, those specific local environmental factors are needed: soil and the required amount of solar energy.

It is known that those who consume the "Ladder to the Sun" flower increase their physical strength and mental development. With a large use of this flower, a person can increase in height by approximately 1.5-2 times, but this entails consequences. If, with small doses of the virus, a person may not receive any harm, then with large doses, you can go crazy or die due to changes in the human structure incompatible with life.

There are two types of experimental Ancestor virus: type-A and type-B. The first cannot connect with human DNA, which is why the infected person subsequently dies, although for several days he has a more developed mind and strength. Type-B can bind to human DNA, but it affects the brain too much, thereby damaging it, rendering the subject useless.

The Ancestor Virus was discovered by Lord Oswell Spencer on December 6, 1966 in West Africa. Dr. James Marcus and his student Brand Bailey were engaged in direct research at this time. The doctor, having made all the preparations, took a sample of the Stairway to the Sun flower containing the virus and left Africa. However, all attempts to grow a flower with a virus in other conditions were unsuccessful. Marcus suggested that those West African environmental factors were needed for the Ancestor to appear.

Despite long attempts to grow a flower with the virus in different conditions, the organization of the production of the virus was not started. There was not enough money, there was not any progress, but Spencer in March 1967 already plans to create a company that will directly deal with the study of viruses and their effect on humans and other creatures. His idea was not supported by Brand Bailey, since there was no progress with the study of the virus, and Dr. Marcus agreed with Oswell, if only nothing would interfere with the scientist's research.

In November 1967, construction was completed on Spencer's mansion, designed by George Trevor. In the depths of the house, a new laboratory for researching the virus was hidden. The first subjects in the study of the Ancestor were the architect's wife Jessica and daughter Lisa. Since the virus did not develop in Jessica, she was shot, and experiments on Lisa continued.

In 1968, an African expedition began to displace the N'Dipaya tribe from their native lands. All this was done in order to find the place of the legendary Garden of the Sun and gain access to flowers and the virus. In July, Edward Ashford, one of the founders of the Umbrella Company, becomes the first European to die from intoxication with the Ancestor virus. In August, the expedition succeeds in breaking through to the Garden of the Sun and Dr. Marcus and Bailey establish a research laboratory there. However, Dr. Marcus was forced to leave Africa, as Spencer gave him the position of manager of the Umbrella Research Center. In September, Bailey begins sending virus samples from Africa directly to Marcus.

In January 1987, James Marcus crosses the Ancestor virus and leech DNA to create the T-virus. In 1988, the doctor was killed by two of his most trusted collaborators, William Birkin and Albert Wesker. The order came from a former comrade of James, Lord Spencer. Wesker and Birkin continued their research in the isolated Arkhlean Laboratory. Here, under Spencer's supervision, Dr. Birkin continued to experiment on Trevor's daughter Lisa. These experiments led to the creation of the G virus in the future.

In 2006, Lord Spencer, already in his mature years, met with Albert Wesker to discuss plans for the revival of Umbrella, which was already closed by then, and for world domination. Oswell, having become arrogant, believes that only he is allowed to become a god with the help of a new virus. In a fit of pride and vanity, he tells Wesker that even Albert himself is an experiment in crossing the Ancestor virus with humans. An experiment was carried out, which was named "Children of Wesker". Children were brought up, they received the best education and training in the chosen field, then they were injected with the virus to further enhance their abilities. But only two survivors are known: Albert and Alex Wesker. Upon learning this, Albert killed Lord Oswell Spencer and decided to use the power that the Ancestor gave for his own purposes in creating another virus known as Ouroboros.

G-VIRUS

The G-Virus is one of Umbrella's most horrific and successful creations. When the development of this virus began is unknown. The impetus for the development of the virus was a primitive chemical sample extracted from the body of Lisa Trevor, the daughter of the architect of the Spencer mansion, which was located directly above the laboratories, after the introduction of the NE-α type to her. Chief developers of this virus is Dr. William Birkin.

After human infection with the G-virus, uncontrolled biological changes occur, leading to accelerated tissue growth, the appearance of new additional limbs and eyes - as a result, after this metamorphosis, learn ex-man in such a being is practically impossible. One of the main features of the G-virus is the increased regeneration of damaged tissues, allowing the host to survive severe injuries.

The mode of transmission of the G-virus is much more complicated than that of the T-virus, which is transmitted both through water and in high concentrations through the air and through direct contact. The G virus cannot be transmitted by these routes, so outbreaks of this one virus alone are not possible. However, there is still one way: when the host creature itself infects another. Infected with the G-virus can forcibly implant embryos with an infection inside another organism. And then the virus will develop in the body of the creature. But the success of this procedure depends a lot on the organism into which the embryos were implanted. They acquire not only the properties of the virus itself, but the host also influences them. Therefore, embryos usually do not take root, which is why such an infected person dies painfully. But if the host and the organism into which the embryos were introduced are relatives (they have almost the same blood), then the possibility of the virus engraftment increases significantly.

There is also another important feature that distinguishes the G-virus from the T. If the T-virus increases the metabolic rate of the body, destroying many of the host's cells, then the G-virus, on the contrary, revives the cells, leading to the complete revival of the dead creature.

But there were also disadvantages that did not allow the G-virus to become widespread. Although he possessed tremendous power, the unpredictability of mutations and uncontrollability reduced this plus to minus. While those infected with the T-virus have always taken almost one form and mutations can be controlled, the infected with the G-virus could transform into anyone of any size and shape. The only similarity between all those infected with this virus is a huge third eye near the right shoulder, if it is a human. Also, in the future, an infected with the G virus can continue to mutate when new damage is received, while taking on new forms. To fix this problem, the Umbrella company tried to create a virus that could control the same enormous power and could be controlled. As a result, a new virus, t + G, was created. There is only one vaccine in case of accidental introduction of infected embryos into the human body. The code name of the antivirus is "Devil" ("DEVIL"). However, the vaccine does not eliminate the G-virus directly from the body, it only suppresses it and reduces the effects of infection to zero. The main creator of the G-virus is William Birkin; the scientist devoted most of his life to studying it. The story of the virus begins when William and Albert Wesker, Umbrella researchers at the Arklay Laboratory, injected the NE-a type into Lisa Trevor's body, and then extracted the chemical base that became the future G-virus.

After Birkin managed to create the first sample of the virus, then he turned to Umbrella's management to provide him with new equipment and funds. After that, the scientist continued to work on cleaning and improving the G-virus. To develop the virus, a large underground laboratory was built outside Raccoon City in 1991. Here Birkin spent the next seven years until he was betrayed by Umbrella. Spencer began to doubt the scientist, so he sent the Umbrella Security Service to collect a sample of the G-virus. The scientist was mortally wounded, then he decided to take a desperate step: he injected himself with a virus. He became a monster .... All but one member of the U.S.S. were killed. But still, agent HUNK (HUNK) managed to get out and take with him samples of two viruses: G and T. William Birkin himself, already in the form of a monster, was killed by Leon Kennedy During the last days of her existence, Umbrella continued to experiment with the G-virus. So they created a new virus t + G and based on its tyrants such as T-091 and T-092. After the collapse of the corporation, the G-virus fell into different hands. It is known that WilPharma had such a sample, but it was destroyed in 2005 immediately after the incident at Harvardville airport..

UROBOROS

Ouroboros is based on the Ancestor virus and was created by Albert Wesker. With his help, the former head of the Umbrella company wanted to take over the world and create a better society in which the survivors of the uroboros infection would rule, whom the virus did not kill, but strengthened their abilities and turned them into "demigods." However, Wesker's plans were thwarted by B.S.A.A's special agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. What happened later with the samples of the virus is unknown.Ouroboros was created with the direct participation of Albert Wesker and Excella Gionne, head of the African division of Tricell. Although it is likely that some other components of other known viruses were used in the creation, it was the Ancestor that was extracted earlier from the flower known as the "Ladder to the Sun", which grew in West Africa. With small doses of the plant, it enhanced the mental and physical abilities of those who took it, but with large doses, a person was waiting for death.

It is known that the "Stairway to the Sun" was revered by the local N'Dipaya tribe, the flower played a big role in their ceremonies. According to the data obtained by the first researchers in this region of Africa, whoever of the aborigines survived after eating the plant - and it was very poisonous - became their leader. Some representatives of N'Dipaya even stated that there were few such people and they ruled for several centuries. Although such facts cannot be trusted, they have not been confirmed by anything.

The discoverer of the Stairway to the Sun flower is Henry Travis, who traveled across Africa in 1800 and collected various notes about botany (his descendants are the founders of the Tricell company). Henry has compiled all of his discoveries in Africa in the 72-volume encyclopedia Natural History Conspectus. There were descriptions of animals, insects, minerals, inhabitants and their traditions, folklore and culture of local tribes, topography of the area. Already in the XX century, then young, Lord Oswell Spencer read this encyclopedia and became interested in the customs of the N'Dipaya tribe associated with the “Ladder to the Sun” flower. He thought that the plant would help take the evolution of humanity to a new level.

Then, having assembled a team, in 1960, Lord Spencer went to West Africa. They fail to access the flower immediately, but in December 4, 1966, they receive the Ancestor virus, which played a large role in the creation of modern bioterrorist weapons. Realizing the full potential of the Ladder to the Sun, Spencer and his team occupy the ancient ruins of the city of N'Dipaya, which belonged to the tribe for hundreds of years. Despite the resistance of most of the aborigines, who consumed the flower in large quantities in the hope of protecting their ancestral lands, the indigenous people were pushed back. Having gained access to the "Ladder to the Sun", which for a strange reason grew only in those places, the team immediately set up a laboratory in the ruins and began to study the mysterious properties of the flower.Immediately after that, the Umbrella company was founded, which directly began to study the Ancestor virus and its possible introduction into pharmaceuticals. However, the research moved in the wrong direction, experiments were performed even on humans, there were many victims ... Because of this, Lord Spencer was afraid that their immoral designs and experiments would become known to the public and Umbrella would be criticized, so the laboratory in Africa was classified (about her only the most senior employees knew) so that even when the company was closed, their legacy would live on.

In the future, Albert Wesker, one of Umbrella's former employees, took advantage of this, he realized the full power of the Ancestor virus. And it was Albert who attracted the investment from Tricell Africa in this project when Umbrella was closed.

And right after the murder of Spencer Wesker in 2006, begins new era in the creation of bioweapons, the development of a new virus that could make the carrier a "god" if he survived its introduction - and this is how Ouroboros appeared. With the help of it, it was planned to create a completely new society.

The first attempts to create the Ouroboros virus have failed. It turned out to be too poisonous, instead of enhancing the abilities of the infected, the virus killed them. However, Wesker was not going to give up. One of the test subjects was Jill Valentine, a member of the BSAA, who was presumed dead after an incident at Spencer's mansion in 2006 - in fact, she was captured by Albert. She was put into cryogenic sleep and kept under observation. Soon, some deviations from the norm were found in Jill's body, a detailed study of them revealed that the T-virus with which the girl was infected during the events in Raccoon City did not die completely, but only changed. The antivirus did not destroy the infection, but put it into a "sleep" state. After staying for a long time in cryogenic sleep, the T-virus in Jill's body died completely. However, at the same time, quite strong antibodies remained after him, which made re-infection with the T-virus impossible. Wesker was able to discover this and he realized that he could use these antibodies as an emollient component in the creation of Ouroboros, reducing the mortality rate among the test subjects. This allowed Albert to improve the new virus and make it a potential bioweapon. After lengthy research and experimentation, Wesker was able to finally improve the Ouroboros virus. At that time, Jill's body contained new strong antibodies after experiments that did not allow her to infect her with a virus, now Valentine has ceased to be important for the creation of Ouroboros. However, Albert did not kill her, but subdued her to his will with the help of a new unknown technology, and Jill began to follow Wesker's orders. According to reports from Chris Redfield, Valentine did not even recognize her former partner and tried to kill him.

But one way or another, Chris and Sheva Alomar managed to save Jill and reveal Albert's plans to conquer the world, because he wanted to subject the entire population of the globe to infection with Ouroboros. As a result, the infected Albert himself was killed by BSAA agents. However, it is still unknown what happened to the samples of the virus, whether they were destroyed or fell into the hands of bioterrorists. In its original form, Ouroboros was too dangerous for any host, all infected died. Only after the addition of Jill antibodies could a small percentage of those infected survive (less than 1%).

As soon as the Ouroboros comes into contact with the cells of another organism, it adds its genes to the host's genes and tries to merge with it. If the process is successful, then the virus strengthens the host, giving him superhuman abilities. However, if genes show discreteness (immiscibility), then Ouroboros begins to mutate, causing the uncontrolled development of infected tissues. As a result, the entire human body is infected, which certainly leads to the death of the carrier. Outwardly, the infected turns into a pile of black tentacles that absorb any organic matter, thereby strengthening themselves. The most effective way the destruction of such a monster is burning, but if there is no flamethrower at hand, then the only weak point of the mutant is yellow spots.

Since there were no survivors after infection with Ouroboros (except for Albert Wesker), it is not known what consequences the virus could cause in the future. However, it is known from the data obtained by BSAA scientists that if the Uroboros were used as a biological weapon, only a few would survive on the planet, which would survive the infection, while the rest would die. According to Wesker, in this way humanity would be on a new stage of evolution.

And in the end it is worth saying about the very abilities given by the virus to those who survived the infection. The wearer's physical and mental abilities are enhanced, he gains speed and reaction, becomes less sensitive to damage and even becomes capable of tissue and cell regeneration. At the moment, nothing is known about the side effects, since Ouroboros is still a poorly understood virus.

In the fourth film, several more varieties of zombies appeared, in particular, zombie diggers (majini), able to dig tunnels and get to victims from the ground, a new type of dogs (adyula), whose heads could be divided vertically, forming a huge, dotted with sharp teeth to mouth (two individuals appeared, which were soon killed), and the executioner - a zombie giant, wielding a huge ax, with the help of which he broke through the gates of the prison where the survivors were hiding, thereby letting in the zombies swarming around him, and died only when he the head was completely blown off. At the supposedly "the only place not affected by a viral infection - the city of Arcadia in Alaska", in fact, on the ship where experiments were carried out on people, and belonging to "Umbrella" was a former employee of the secret service "Umbrella" Albert Wesker ( Albert wesker) and was also infected, but retained his sanity and was practically invulnerable.
