My grandfather's brother shouted at the game in Valmiera: “Zhenya! Zhenya!"

The amazing family history of the newcomer of the Moscow Region Vityaz Yevgeny Viksna became the most intriguing at the start of friendly matches in the preparation of the team for the KHL Championship.

Support group from Latvia

At the first game of Vityaz against Dinamo Riga in Valmiera, warm support - not only from the hosts. A small group is located right above the Vityaz bench, and desperate shouts in support of the Moscow region squad are heard from it!

Who is this? The Vityaz press service managed to find out ...

It turns out that one of the most ardent fans of "Vityaz" at that game was ... Don't be surprised, 81-year-old resident of Latvia Khariis Viksne. He, his children and relatives came to hockey in Valmiera from the village of Koceni (in Latvian Kocēni. It - large village, center of Koceni parish and Koceni region).

The village of Koceni is located 12 km from the Ice Palace in Valmiera. So getting to hockey this time was not a big deal. By the way, only about 1000 people live in Koceni (925 inhabitants according to the data of the year).

You probably guessed why the support group came to be ill in Valmiera. She supported the Vityaz hockey player Yevgeny Viksna!

Family history of the Viksne family

- How and why did it happen that in the first match in the stands most of the Vityaz fans supported you?

Köceni farm near Valmiera is the historical homeland of my paternal family, - says Evgeniy Viksna (he deliberately puts the letter "i" at the end of the village, in the Latvian manner of pronunciation. - Approx. ed.). My grandfather Olgert was born here (alas, he is no longer), my father - his name is Igor, brother of grandfather Khariys, he is now 81 years old.

- It was he who came to the match, despite his venerable age!

Yes, he shouted the loudest “Zhenya! Zhenya!" All our guys heard, despite the noise in the hall. Fortunately, he and his family were sitting right above our bench. Although sometimes, together with their family, they shouted over the full hall - those 500 spectators who supported Dynamo Riga.

- Who else came with him to the game?

His daughter is my aunt Christina, her husband and their son Robert. All of them were rooting for me and for our "Vityaz".

- Have you seen them before?

No, I first met. It so happened that I had never been to Koceni at all, and I was very happy about their arrival. Even if not for long, I saw my relatives. We met and talked. They invited me to visit next year. Our vacation is over. Only working days are ahead.

- When did you know that they were coming to the game?

My father told me as soon as our schedule became known that Valmiera is not far from their home farm. But I knew for sure that our relatives would come to the match only a day before our game, when my grandfather's brother called me! This surprised me a lot!

- What is your grandfather's last name?

Kharijs Viksne.

- Like you ?!

It has an e at the end.

- In the Latvian manner?

We must have the same last name. But now one half of the Viksne family, the other half of the Viksna. The story is this: when my dear grandfather once moved to Russia, one letter of the surname was confused, and in the passport they wrote: “Viksna”.

- Where have your relatives moved?

I was born near Rostov-on-Don, in the city of Shakhty ...

The knees did not shake in the opening

- Returning to the game, what was interesting in your debut match in the form of Vityaz?

There was no mandrage. Although the first meeting for me at the level of the KHL teams is very responsible and exciting. What to say? We played under load.

- Were the residents of Riga more cheerful physically? They went out on the ice earlier.

We didn't have enough strength to finish, and unnecessary deletions in the third period let us down.

Well, actually, the first two periods were good. I would put it this way: rattled off! It is a pity, we conceded an optional goal at the very beginning, but then we were able to recoup and come out ahead. We won 2: 1 before the final twenty minutes. But then they conceded five goals in a row, however, three of them - when playing in the minority.

- Did you personally succeed in the game?

I liked interacting with Denis Yezhov. And completely our link, as we played - together with the trio of Tsyganov - Shvets-Rogova - Korolev.

- You have a good shot, and last year's statistics in the THC are impressive (the best sniper of the VHL regular championship among defenders - 11 goals. - Approx. ed.).

This time the coaches said: "Don't connect!" So I played from behind. I will do what I am told. After all, I can go ahead, in THK I scored like that. However, he also scored a lot of goals in the majority.

- And this time?

They played only one shift in the majority, and almost scored. I didn't manage to play more on the realization.

- Do coaches pay attention to your rather rare "right grip"?

I hope that they will sharpen their attention, and I will have a better chance of going out of the way.

I will try very hard to find my usual game. However, what they ask to do on the site, I will.

Orekhovsky asked not to hang your nose!

- What did Oleg Orekhovsky say after the game?

For me personally - nothing, but for everyone: "Don't hang your nose!"

- How did the Finnish striker Palola perform?

A very fast and technical striker. He scored a goal from the move in the majority of the class, and played the bullet well. Master, yes. But he was not alone in the leaders of this game. I personally liked Musatov - he actively climbed the gate, took over the game, and Krysanov. They played well in the attack, and I remember all three of them.

- Despite the summer, your training regime is serious ...

Yes, everything is scheduled by the minute. Exercise, breakfast, workout, lunch, an hour's rest, then waking up again and new work on the ice or in general physical training. Dinner, some free time for a walk, and then sleep. There is no strength left at the training camp for anything else.

- What is your number one goal now?

Now the main thing for me is to gain a foothold in the main team of Vityaz and not go back to Tver. I really want to play at the KHL level. I will make every effort to do this. And I hope to please Vityaz fans in the future! Including new ones from Latvia!

Notes

An excerpt characterizing Viksna, Evgeny Igorevich

“Come on, Ivan Lukich,” he said to the company commander.
“That's the way it’s French,” said the soldiers in chains. - Well, you, Sidorov!
Sidorov winked and, addressing the French, began often, often babbling incomprehensible words:
“Kari, mala, tafa, safi, muter, helmet,” he muttered, trying to give expressive intonations to his voice.
- Go Go go! ha ha ha ha ha! Wow! Wow! - there was a roar of such healthy and cheerful laughter between the soldiers, which involuntarily communicated to the French through the chain, that after that it seemed necessary to unload the guns, detonate the charges and disperse as soon as possible for everyone to go home.
But the guns remained loaded, the loopholes in the houses and fortifications looked ahead just as menacingly and, just as before, facing each other remained, removed from the front of the cannon.

Having traveled around the entire line of troops from the right to the left flank, Prince Andrei climbed to the battery from which, according to the officer's headquarters, the entire field was visible. Here he dismounted and stopped at the outermost of the four guns removed from the limbs. Ahead of the guns walked a sentry artilleryman, who was stretched out in front of the officer, but at the sign made to him resumed his uniform, dull walk. Behind the guns were the limbs, still behind the hitching posts and the fires of the gunners. To the left, not far from the extreme gun, was a new wicker hut, from which the animated officers' voices were heard.
Indeed, a view of almost the entire disposition of the Russian troops and most of the enemy was revealed from the battery. Directly opposite the battery, on the horizon of the opposite hillock, was the village of Shengraben; to the left and to the right could be discerned in three places, among the smoke of their fires, the masses of French troops, of which, obviously, most were in the village itself and beyond the mountain. To the left of the village, in the smoke, it looked like something similar to a battery, but it was impossible to see it well with the naked eye. Our right flank was located on a rather steep hill, which dominated the position of the French. Our infantry was located along it, and dragoons were visible at the very edge. In the center, where the Tushin battery was located, from which Prince Andrey was examining the position, there was the most gentle and straight descent and ascent to the stream that separated us from Shengraben. To the left, our troops adjoined the forest, where the fires of our infantry, chopping wood, were smoking. The French line was wider than ours, and it was clear that the French could easily bypass us on both sides. Behind our position was a steep and deep ravine, along which it was difficult for artillery and cavalry to retreat. Prince Andrey, leaning on the cannon and taking out his wallet, drew for himself a plan for the disposition of the troops. In two places, he put notes in pencil, intending to communicate them to Bagration. He intended, firstly, to concentrate all the artillery in the center and, secondly, to transfer the cavalry back to the other side of the ravine. Prince Andrew, constantly being with the commander-in-chief, watching the movements of the masses and general orders and constantly engaging in historical descriptions of battles, and in this upcoming matter, he involuntarily understood the future course of hostilities only in general terms. He imagined only the following major accidents: “If the enemy leads an attack on the right flank,” he said to himself, “the Kiev Grenadier and Podolsk Jaegers will have to hold their position until the reserves of the center come close to them. In this case, the dragoons can flank and overturn them. In the event of an attack on the center, we deploy the central battery on this hill and, under its cover, pull the left flank and retreat to the ravine in echelons, "he reasoned with himself ...
All the time that he was on the battery at the gun, he, as often happens, without ceasing, heard the sounds of the voices of the officers speaking in the booth, but did not understand a single word of what they said. Suddenly the sound of voices from the booth struck him with such a sincere tone that he involuntarily began to listen.

- a pupil of the Cherepovets hockey school. He began his professional career in Voskresensk. He played mainly for "Chemist-2". In the 2008-2009 season, he played three matches for the main team. In the same period he moved to Lipetsk, where he performed for almost two years. Then a couple of seasons in Voronezh, and now in Tver. Last year, Evgeny Viksna played 37 games with THC, in which he once scored a goal and acted as an assistant ten times. In this championship in 19 games, the athlete scored three goals and made four assists. In our interview, one of the most attacking defenders of the THK spoke about his career and why he came to Tver.

- I was born in the city of Shakhty, 70 kilometers from Rostov-on-Don. The whole family, when I was still small, moved to Cherepovets. These are my parents, me, my brother and sister. When I was in school, I was enrolling in the hockey section, and I decided to try. It didn't work out right away, at first they didn't take me to a hockey school. But it only provoked me, I stubbornly passed the standards, and as a result I passed. At the age of 12, I went to Yaroslavl, played hockey there. Lokomotiv's school, I think, is the strongest in the country. I worked there for a year, and then left for Voskresensk. Why go there? Yes, he just pointed his finger at the card and that's it (smiles). There I played in the Khimik team, even reached the KHL. True, I never went on the ice in the strongest league in the country. I went with the team, I was in shape at the matches, but they wouldn't let me out. In the same season - 2008/2009 - I was sent to the second team, Khimik-2, which played in the First League. So, in one of the matches there was an incident: they scored a goal with a high stick, I told the referee about this, but he still counted the puck. It made me angry, I turned around and gave him a head. As a result, I was disqualified for 10 matches, which forbade me to play in the first and second teams. As a result, I left for Lipetsk, where I played in the Major League. There I spent almost two seasons, and then moved to Voronezh "Buran", where I was invited by coach Viktor Semykin. He also moved from Lipetsk to Voronezh. There I also played for two years and ended up in Tver.

- Why did you move to Tver?
- All the time I was in touch with the THK coaches Vladimir Koltsov and Kirill Pafifov. Maybe he would have ended up in Tver earlier, but was waiting for the approval of Viktor Ivanovich Semykin. When I let go, I drove off.

- When did you realize that you would become a hockey player?

- Yes, maybe seven years old. My parents are sports and we were introduced to sports. My brother played basketball. The sister was dancing. And I became interested in hockey. Since childhood, it somehow went, and I wanted to play. As I remember now, as a child I got up at six in the morning and took the bus to train with trunks.

- Did you become a defender right away?
- Yes. At first I was a defender, then, by the way, they put me in the center. Became a center forward. But, probably, I was too lazy for this role, so I was returned to the defensive position ( laughs).

- What is Evgeny Viksna in life?
- Calm. Sometimes I like to joke.

- You have one romantic story, because you made an offer to your wife at a match when you played for the Voronezh team.
- Yes, it was. I bought a ring six months before this event, carried it in my pocket, did not know what to do (smiles). Then it naturally occurred to me what to do, I decided that it was at the match. It was on December 28 at the game against Lipetsk. I remember the end of the match, about five minutes before the siren - I run out from behind the gate, and then they "shook me out". They bring me to the bench, and the boys laugh, they say, you still have to make an offer. A month before, I agreed with the management, the guys, the photographer. During the greeting of the teams, I had to take the ring, then the microphone, make a speech, but I could not, tears were already welling up. They also included romantic music. I told her so without a microphone.

In part, I moved to Tver because of my wife, she comes from here. By the way, her father, my father-in-law, did not miss a single THK game in two seasons. He goes to all the matches, goes on trips, to Klin, to Balashikha. You come home, he teases: you were beaten here, you didn't hit the puck here ( laughs). All broadcasts are watched by away games. So he's a loyal fan of THC.

- Speaking of THK, how has the team changed compared to last season?
- It has become much better, the attitude is different. Everything is fine, I like everything.

- What was your most serious opponent in the first round of the current championship?
- All opponents are strong. All victories were given to us very difficult. And besides, I missed a lot. For the second season in a row I got injured and dropped out for a while. This is a shame, of course. While you are recovering, you sit on the podium, and you worry as if on the ice. I want to go into battle. If you highlight a specific match, then this is a game with Penza "Diesel". Then I scored the first goal of the season, this goal was supposed to be victorious, but in the last seconds we conceded, and in overtime we lost in the majority. It was very disappointing.

- With whom from the team do you communicate the closest?
- With Roma Smiryagin and Sasha Torchenyuk. It seems as if Sasha and I have been friends for ten years, although we only met in this preseason. I decided to take him under my wing, and showed the shortest exit from the city to Moscow, and we became friends. There was a funny story with Roma. We have known each other since 13. Before Khimik, I was in the Rus team in Moscow in the preseason. Roma played there. We ran a lot of crosses back then, but maybe my sneakers weren't comfortable, maybe what else, in general, the heel hurt ( laughs). Roma always ran the last, but he still overtook me ( laughs). I left “Rus” because it was expensive to live in Moscow. But we were always in touch with Roma and every year, when we met with him, he said: "Great, Heel!" Well, somehow it was funnier than I told ( laughs). Overall, we have a good team. Very kind team. It happens that strong players are recruited into the team, and everyone is on his own mind - everyone is angry, squinting. In the THC, on the contrary, everyone supports each other, jokes, smiles, and we tune in to the games together. These emotions help us to win, feel solidarity, and be a real team. Sergei Dorofeev said correctly that THC is capable of competing for Bratina, and we will strive for this. We have serious ambitions.
