How to find out the pin code of a bank card?

The use of bank cards is associated with the need to constantly comply with security rules. One of them is to remember your pin code, which consists of 4 digits.

From English, PIN code is an encrypted combination of numbers, a personal identifier that allows the cardholder to gain remote access to the account through the use of ATMs, through an online bank or various online terminals.

The secret combination serves as a kind of analogue of the client's digital signature, which is recognized by the bank.

How can I find out the code?

The pin code can consist of 4-12 digits, but for the convenience of customers and ease of remembering by issuing banks, 4 digits are most often used. We will talk about how to find out the pin code of a bank card.

It is used in several cases:

  1. when paying by credit card for purchases or services using a non-cash payment method. The card is handed over to the merchant, who inserts it into the terminal, then the client needs to enter a combination, after which the amount is debited from the account, and the purchase is considered completed;
  2. when withdrawing money from an ATM.

The client must keep this number in secret, not pass it on to third parties, and also not write directly on the card itself or put a note with numbers in the wallet.

The combination is formed by the bank automatically, the sequence of numbers is obtained randomly, after which it is closed in an opaque envelope and transferred to the client along with a plastic card.

At the same time, no one knows what is written in the envelope: not a single employee of a financial institution. The information is not saved anywhere.

Therefore, there is only one sure way to find out the pin code of a bank card - to find an envelope. It is desirable to store it at home in a safe place so that if necessary it can be found. And you need to remember the pin code and not tell anyone else, you should not hastily throw away the envelope.

Can I use an ATM?

Alas, there is no method on how to recover the pin code of a bank card through an ATM. But you can just try to go to the ATM that you use most often and try to dial the combination.

It sounds strange, but it often happens that the fingers themselves remember which buttons to press, provided that you have a card for a long time and you have used it relatively often.

In any case, there are only 2 attempts to remember, usually after 3 incorrect PIN code entries, the card will be blocked or left directly in the ATM.

If you remember it worked out, here you can quickly change the combination to a more memorable one:

  1. insert the card and enter the code;
  2. go to the settings menu, where you can choose to change the pin code;
  3. enter a new combination that is familiar to you and will be difficult to forget. It is better not to use the passport number or car number, this is not the most reliable password;
  4. an inscription will appear on the ATM screen stating that the changes were successful and have been saved.

The PIN code change method is only suitable for those people who remember the combination and want to change it to a more memorable one. Alas, cashing out funds from the card without knowing the old code will not work in any way. And you can’t view the code in the ATM menu either.

Communication with the hotline

Many people believe that it is enough just to call the bank at the phone number written on the website and the specialist will provide the necessary information.

But in fact, the technical support worker does not know your pin code, this is done for the purpose of your own security, so there is no way to find it out at the bank.

Therefore, there are almost no options on how to find out the pin code if you forgot, and only the envelope received with the card will save. If you can’t remember the combination, and it’s also impossible to find the envelope, all that remains is to write an application with a request for reissue.

There is no application form, by filling out which it will be possible to restore the pin code, because this is a violation of the rules for using plastic cards. If there is money left on the balance, the client can either withdraw it at the bank’s cash desk and close the card account, or get a new one, to which a new code will go in the envelope.

What is the cost of the reissue procedure should be clarified on the spot, and as for the timing, it usually takes an average of 2 weeks to reissue, after which the client receives a new plastic with a new code, which is still unknown to anyone.

So, if the pin code is forgotten, the procedure for the client, regardless of the name of his issuing bank, is as follows:

  • if possible, withdraw the balance from the account through the cash desk (there is no need for a pin code) or using a mobile or Internet bank;
  • come to the bank's office with a card and passport, tell about what happened and fill out a form for issuing a new card and permanently blocking the existing one. After turning off all paid services, it will be destroyed and you will not have to fear that in a couple of months an unpaid debt will accumulate on the card;
  • if necessary, pay the cost of reissuing, most likely it will be paid (unless the card has almost expired, then usually no additional fee is charged for this);
  • in a week or two, get a new card with a new pin code.

The account will remain the same, only the physical medium will change. The card also receives a new 16-digit number.

Using a card without an important combination

The cardholder can withdraw money at the cash desk if he has a passport at any convenient time. At the same time, there is no need to provide your pin code, so this is a good option, how not to be left without cash if the cherished combination has flown out of memory.

In some stores, it is also possible to carry out non-cash payments, during which the client gets rid of the need to enter a code.

Similarly, on a number of sites, to pay for a product or service, it is enough to know the number on the front side, the expiration date, and the secret code on the back of the card.

Thus, plastic can be used for its intended purpose while you are looking for an envelope or going to the office.
