Setting up iPhone: Simple steps that will save you money. How to set up an iPhone the first time you turn it on from scratch How to set up an iPhone 6 plus after purchase

Personally, I am convinced that paying for the initial setup of a new iPhone or iPad for managers store or employees service center- stupid. There is nothing complicated about this; it is simply impossible to damage or disable the device during the process of setting it up, and therefore save your hard-earned money. In today's publication I will tell you about the first initial setup a newly purchased iOS device or after flashing.

iPhone 6s setup video on iOS 11

I show how to set up an iPhone using the example of iPhone 6S (iOS 11) with the creation of an Apple ID:

This video was a real success on my YouTube channel. After it, I realized that the video instructions describe all the processes very well and are pleasant to watch.

Video of initial setup of iPhone 5s on iOS 11

Here I set up an iPhone 5S on iOS 11.4.1 and also create an Apple ID:

It seems that these videos are similar or even the same. Not really. Various devices and operating systems have a lot in common in the initial setup, but there are still differences. iOS 11.4.1 is the latest version of iOS 11. This system is unlikely to be updated further.

iPhone 5 setup video on iOS 10

And here I set up a very old iPhone 5 on iOS 10, create an Apple ID and download Telegram:

iOS 10 is already quite an ancient system today. It is no longer updated. I recorded this video on the latest version of iOS 10.

Setting up iPhone step by step

When you start your new iPhone or iPad for the first time, before the iOS desktop appears on its screen, you will need to carry out its initial setup, namely:

  1. connect your device to a wireless network ();
  2. enable or disable location services(you cannot skip this step, you will have to choose);
  3. set up iPhone as new or restored from a saved file or on your local computer;
  4. enter your Apple ID or create a new one (you can skip this step);
  5. accept the Terms of Use(Necessarily);
  6. create a fingerprint using Touch ID and set a lock password(you can configure it later);
  7. specify whether or not to send diagnostic and usage data to Apple(must be selected).

Setting up a new iPhone

Selecting a Wi-Fi network

If you are within range of a wireless network with Internet access, connect your device to a Wi-Fi network. This will make it possible to restore the device from backup copy stored in iCloud (not relevant for new devices).

Geolocation

Here you can turn on or off location services, which allow Maps and similar apps to collect information about your geographic location.

Information about location services from the official Apple website:

“With location services, apps and websites that require location data (including Maps, Camera, Safari, and others) Apple programs and third party developers) may use information from cellular network, Wi-Fi networks, GPS and iBeacons to determine your approximate location."

Location services will allow you to track your stolen or lost device in the Find iPhone app from another device or via iCloud. We recommend turning it on.

You can enable location services at any time in Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services.

Disabling geolocation services will extend the operation of the device on 1 battery charge. Location services can be turned off for specific device services.

On the next screen after Geolocation, you will be asked to set up your iPhone as new, restore it from a backup stored in iCloud or saved.

  • If you are setting up new iPhone, restoring from a backup is not relevant to you, select “Set up as a new iPhone.”
  • If you are setting up an iOS device after restoring or updating the firmware, already at the stage initial setup you can restore all data and settings from a backup, and this can be done without connecting the device to a computer (via iCloud).

Apple ID

You can directly from your iPhone during the setup process or later or menu " iTunes Store, App Store» in the device settings.

Terms of use

Next, you must agree to the terms of use and accept the user agreement. Until you accept the agreement, you will not be able to complete setup or use the device. Personally, I have never read it and every time I blindly agree with all its provisions; I am sure that 99% of iOS device owners do so.

Touch ID and passcode

The penultimate setting allows you to create a fingerprint using Touch ID (relevant for the iPhone 5s and all future iOS devices with a fingerprint scanner in the Home button) and use it to unlock the device (switch from the LockScreen to the HomeScreen )) and authorization in the App Store.

In case you can’t unlock your iPhone 5s with your finger, after creating a fingerprint, you will be prompted to set a lock password.

You can skip this step; you can create a fingerprint and set a lock password later in iOS settings.

Diagnostics

The final step: determine whether you agree to send diagnostic data to Apple or not.

A standard request that will allow creators of iOS devices to receive information about failures and errors in the operation of the software (iOS) and hardware components of their devices.

There is only one step left until the final setup is completed - tap “Get Started”.

Once on the screen of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch the desktop will appear, you will be able to use its full potential.
Let us remind you once again that all initial setup parameters can be set later in the iOS “Settings” menu and not “bother” with routine actions immediately after purchase.

  • Disabling geolocation services will allow you to extend the operation of your iOS device on 1 battery charge.
  • Do not disable all location services at once, in iOS settings Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services disable: geolocation iAds, diagnostics and usage, popular nearby, Wi-Fi networks, traffic jams, compass calibration. If you need any service, you can always turn it on.
  • Do not disable location services for the Find iPhone app (Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Find iPhone), this will allow you to accurately determine geographical location devices in case of theft or loss.
  • If you have an iCloud backup, connect your device to the Internet via Wi-Fi and select “Restore from iCloud copies" This will allow you to restore data and settings of the device without connecting to a computer.
  • If you have access to a computer and have a backup saved on it, connect the device to the computer with a USB cable and restore the data from the copy, this will be faster than restoring from iCloud.
  • If you have an Apple ID, enter it when you first set up your device; later you will not need to register it in the device settings.
  • You can create separate Apple IDs for the App Store and iCloud, this will increase the security of your device and purchases.
  • Read the user agreement, it may contain provisions with which you cannot agree, then you will have to return the iPhone to the seller.
  • If you have an iPhone 5s or any other device with Touch ID, do not be lazy to create a fingerprint to unlock the device and authorize in the App Store.
  • In case you cut yourself and Touch ID cannot identify your fingerprint, set a lock password and be sure to remember it; resetting it is quite difficult.
  • Initial setup can be left for later, skip connecting to Wi-Fi, select Turn off Location Services, set up as a new iPhone, skip the Apple ID sign-in step, accept the Terms of Service, select Set up later Touch ID, do not add a lock password, Disable sending diagnostic data to Apple. All this can be done later in iOS settings.

And it happened! Finally, the decision was made to buy an iPhone 6s, and it’s already sitting in its packaging on the table at home. Before you start using it, you need to activate and configure your phone.

First steps

First you need to insert a SIM card. On the phone, removed from the package, you need to find the connector on the right side surface and insert the prepared SIM card there. To open this connector, you should use a special device called an i-clip. If you have not yet purchased a SIM card, you can skip this step. But it’s still better to start working fully, so that after activating the iPhone, you can check whether the phone already has ready-made settings for the US operator, and how efficient the radio module is.

After the SIM card is installed, you need to turn on the phone. On the iPhone 6s, the button for this is located on the right side surface, in its upper part. The phone will turn on if you press and hold this button for a few seconds. The fact that it has turned on will be indicated by a welcome message appearing on the screen. Then, according to the instructions, you need to select your country of residence and language.

iPhone activation

Now you can start activating your phone. To do this, you need to connect it to a computer or Wi-Fi. It is also possible to use a 3G/LTE network. If there is wireless network, then connecting to it is the most convenient option. If it is not available, then you need to select “use mobile internet» from mobile operator installed SIM card.
It would seem that you can use the Wi-Fi network from a tablet or other smartphone, but this will not work with an iPhone.

After this, a request to enable geolocation will appear on the phone screen. You can enable this feature after activation, or immediately upon request. Experts recommend the second option.

Then three options for activating the phone will appear on the screen:

  • The first sentence “use as” will suit the vast majority of users, especially those who are using an iPhone for the first time. As a result, only standard settings will be installed on the smartphone.
  • If you turn to “restore from iCloud copy,” then all the settings that were on the user’s previous iPhone will be recreated on the new phone. All folders containing applications will also be restored, and all notes and tabs will be saved in the browser.
  • The third option is “restore from iTunes copies"suitable for those users whose iPhones did not support iCloud, and the iTunes function was used to save a backup copy.

For those who choose the first activation option, the device will prompt you to create an account to log in. Apple services– Apple ID. Then you need to go into the phone using your created data and agree to the “Terms and Conditions” by tapping at the end of the text.

You will have to wait until the device finishes activating and setting up. Upon completion, the corresponding message will be displayed on the screen, and the smartphone will offer to connect various services and protecting the device from unauthorized access. Almost all of the services offered are free and can be activated immediately. Various questions from the “diagnostics” and “display enlargement” sections will also be asked. After this, the phone will be ready to use.

Conclusion

Judging by the reviews, simplicity using iPhone 6s and him technical specifications evoke only positive emotions among owners. However, the Apple store is always happy to make its customers happy with high-quality goods from the world of technology. Lately there has been a lot of positive feedback about another Yabloko product - macbook pro. However, this laptop is worth talking about separately.

Apple technology is one of the easiest to use. With each new version iOS developers are trying to simplify the system and make it as comfortable as possible for owners. But despite this, inexperienced users still have problems setting up Apple gadgets upon first activation. Let's look at all the settings and their nuances in detail.

Setting up iPhone, iPad and iPod from scratch: description of all points

The initial setup largely determines the level of quality and ease of interaction with the device. Despite the fact that many of its points can be skipped or changed later, for optimal operation of the gadget it is recommended to carry out all the necessary manipulations at the start.

Selecting a country, setting time and date

Once your Apple device starts up, a welcome message will appear on the screen. Swiping it aside will take you to the interface language options. Next you will need to select a country. After this, based on the time zone data of the selected region, the time and date will be determined automatically.

Connect to a wireless network

Connecting to Wi-Fi will be useful when performing subsequent device setup steps, in particular creating a new Apple ID or connecting an existing one (if you use one authentication system on several Apple gadgets). However, if you intend to save time or simply do not have access to a Wi-Fi network in present moment, you can skip this step.

Geolocation

In this device settings item, you are prompted to enable or disable geolocation. Location services are responsible for collecting information about your geographic coordinates. They are used by apps like Maps, Instagram, Camera, etc. to calculate your approximate location. In addition, using geolocation services you can track Apple device. This function will come in very handy if the gadget is lost or stolen. As for the advantages of turning off geolocation - it will save battery power.

You can activate or deactivate location services at any time by going to Apple's settings. Also, their effect can be limited for some programs.

Setting up iPhone, iPad, iPod

At this stage it is proposed:

  • set up your Apple device as new;
  • restore it from iCloud backup;
  • restore the device from a backup on a local disk.

If your smartphone or tablet is completely new and you are setting it up from scratch, don’t hesitate to select the first option. However, when setting up a gadget after a firmware upgrade or system recovery, it will be more relevant to use backup copies of data.

Apple ID

The next stage is creation of Apple ID or login to an existing account. Apple ID is an account that gives access to applications such as the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. To create it, you will need to fill out the following information:

  • e-mail to which the account will be linked;
  • account password;
  • choose test questions and answers to them (needed to restore your account);
  • date of birth;
  • spare email;
  • postal address.

If you decide to skip this step, add or create new apple ID can be accessed through the device settings at any time.

Terms of Use

Next you need to accept the terms license agreement about use. This point is mandatory and cannot be skipped. It's no secret that 99% Apple users accept the terms of use without reading them. But if you decide in good faith to read full list nuances user agreement and still disagree with some point, the only way out is to reject the terms of use and return the device to the store.

Touch ID and passcode

Acceptance of the terms of use will take you to the final stages of setup - creating a fingerprint using Touch ID and a password. These options will help protect your smartphone or tablet from unauthorized use. Confirming your password and/or fingerprint is required when unlocking the gadget (moving from the lock screen to the desktop) and logging into the App Store. This stage You can skip and create a password and fingerprint at any other time by going to iOS settings.

The Touch ID function works on Apple devices with a fingerprint scanner, i.e. from iPhone 5s and higher. On older gadget models, a standard password is used.

Diagnostics

The final step requires you to agree or not to send system diagnostic data to Apple. The request is very standard and there is nothing in it that would violate confidentiality. On the contrary, information about errors and failures in the iOS system will allow developers to improve it and correct shortcomings in subsequent updates.

Having finished with the last stage of setup, all that remains is to click the “Get Started” button and enjoy using your Apple device.
