Launchers for Android - third party applicationsthat change the system interface and, in some cases, how the user interacts with the Android smartphone. Android launchers do not require, do not affect the warranty, and are not a smartphone flashing. We tell you which launcher for Android is betterhow to install and how to remove the launcher from an Android smartphone.

What is a launcher for Android

Launcher ( english launcher) allows you to simulate different interfaces, turning Android smartphones into Windows devices or Apple devices running on iOS.

The best Android launcher should have the following characteristics:

  • change backgrounds, icons, the process of interaction with the device
  • do not affect the system
  • do not show ads to the user
  • ideally be free

There are two types of launchers:

  • operating system simulatorsusing graphic windows interface, iOS or other Android versions.
  • fundamentally new shellsthat change the appearance and increase the level of comfort of interaction between the user and the mobile device.

Both types of launchers can be downloaded in the "Personalization" section of the store google applications Play. In addition, to search for such programs, you can simply drive the word "launcher" or "launcher" into the corresponding line of the market. But not all skins are truly the best and most interesting skins worth installing on your smart phone.

The best launchers for Android

A good launcher redraws icons, changes the menu structure, adds new widgets and wallpapers. The best launcher for Android optimizes memory consumption and processor load, prevents viruses from entering the device using a special kernel, and protects personal data.

Not all applications on Google Play fall under the definition of the best launcher. Five-Inches has selected three of the best launchers worthy of our readers' attention:

Best of the Best - Action Launcher 3

Chosen by 5 million users. The application is even compatible with the fourth version of Android. After installation, the launcher changes android interfaceincluding a curtain, an updated list of apps sorted alphabetically (A to Z) and an improved panel google search... In addition, new folder covers, icons and wallpapers will appear on the phone.

At the same time, Action Launcher 3 does not overload the phone's desktop - it offers the maximum useful functionstaking up a minimum of space. Moreover, the OS interface is receiving an update in the Material Design style, bringing Android Nougat closer even to those users who will not see the seventh version of the Google operating system on their phone under any circumstances.

The main advantage of Action Launcher 3 Is a very interesting and user-friendly graphical interface that offers ample opportunities to control your smartphone and applications.

The main disadvantage - access to most of the delicious features requires the purchase of the extended version of the program, which costs about $ 5. However, the basic version will allow you to enjoy a qualitatively improved interface.

Best Interface Launcher - Google Now Launcher

Google Now Launcher interface ( aka Google Start) is recognized by users as the best. Classic design of Google Now Launcher thought out by the creators operating system Android. This launcher responds to "Ok Google", launches a prompt on any screen and does not overload the hardware of the smartphone. In addition, there are multi-page folders and alphabetical lists of applications, and the Google Now launcher interface is understandable even for children. Google Now Launcher has been rated by over 50 million Android users.

The main plus of Google Now Launcher - it is super stable and compatible with any Android smartphone, starting from version 4.1.

The main disadvantage - Constant prompts and lists become annoying over time.

Best Custom Launcher - Nova Launcher

Rebuilds the standard operating system interface beyond recognition. Nova Launcher offers new icons, widgets and desktops, binds buttons to a specific location on the screen and backs up settings, accepts imported presets, adapts to any design, and does not overload the phone's hardware. Because of this, Nova Launcher was chosen by more than 10 million users, and about 730 thousand people gave this launcher a well-deserved "5" points on Google Play.

The main advantage of Nova Launcher - highly flexible system settings, allowing you to dazzle your interface.

The main disadvantage - all functions are opened only by the paid version of Nova Launcher Prime.

How to install or uninstall a launcher from an Android smartphone

In order to put the launcher on a smartphone, you just need to download it from Google Play and install it like a regular Android application.

How to remove the launcher from Android? The course of action is standard:

  • Open "Settings", go to the "Applications" section.
  • Find the installed launcher in the list of programs and click on its icon.
  • In the menu that opens, select the "Delete" option.

That's all. After that, you can download another Android launcher or continue using the standard interface of the Android operating system. As a reminder, the warranty is not violated when installing the launcher. The launcher is not an unauthorized modification softwareprovided by the manufacturer. Root rights are not required to install the launcher.

From the article you will learn

The launcher is the main screen of your smartphone. It is from him that all basic user actions occur, such as launching applications, deleting and sorting them. Thanks to a well-chosen launcher, you can not only quickly launch the necessary programs, but also conveniently delete them, clear the cache, find out the weather, account status, SMS and other information directly from the main screen without having to open a third-party application.

List of applications considered

In this article, we will look at the best launchers and figure out which one to choose for your Android smartphone.

Here's a list:

  • ADW 2;
  • N Launcher - Nougat 7.0, Google Start;
  • Additional launchers (Computer Launcher, Win 10, Smart Launcher 3).

What can launchers do?

The first thing the launcher needs to do is launch applications. But this is the most primitive ability. It is worth downloading third-party software for the sake of additional functions, consisting in the convenience and decoration of the device screen.

Almost through every mentioned launcher in our article, you can remove it by long pressing on the application icon, hide it from the desktop, see detailed information in the settings, change the name and icon. It is also possible to conveniently sort everything on a smartphone, change the location of shortcuts, resize and hide unnecessary ones.

For many users, the appearance of the screen is important. At this point, third-party launchers often win, as their functionality is more advanced. They allow you to change the animation of swiping, opening folders and the list of all applications, launching, and so on.

Also in the settings, the color scheme of the entire interface is set and other beautiful buns are made. This is already an individual matter, because the launchers are very different, both in functionality and appearance.

How is the installation procedure going?

Before choosing a launcher, let's figure out how to install it. Any of the listed launchers can be downloaded without any problems from the official store play apps Market (or Google Play) is completely free. And some of the programs have a paid version without ads or with advanced functionality (this will be specified during the review).

  1. Download the launcher and open it.
  2. He will ask you to set it as the default desktop. To do this, in the menu that appears, select the launcher, then the "Always" button (the button may have a different name depending on the firmware and version).
  3. Now, when you open the main screen, this application will appear, and not the usual standard one.

But what if the user didn’t like the design or functionality of such an application, or there were some difficulties? To do this, you can do the following:

  • Install another launcher and set it as the default desktop in the same way as you installed this one;
  • Delete the program in the settings ("Settings" - "Applications" - "The launcher itself" - "Delete");
  • Open the launcher in the official store and uninstall it via the Market;
  • Reassign the default desktop in the settings ("Settings" - " Main screen"(May be called differently depending on the version of the Android system) - select another launcher or delete this by clicking on the trash can icon).

Each action will not harm the device in any way, even with root access, so do not be afraid to experiment. You can open the settings at any time through the status bar (curtain on top) and delete the launcher.

In general, all the launchers we have chosen are stable and there should be no problems with them.

Which to choose?

Choice is a difficult task. It is worth taking this with full responsibility, because everything in a smartphone starts from the start screen, and if it is not as ideal as we would like, the use will spoil the experience a little.

When choosing, first of all, they pay attention to the performance and autonomy of the smartphone. If you think you have enough memory and performance, then you can install heavy launchers with a lot of animations and functions. They consume a lot of memory, both RAM and permanent, and they can also affect the battery (not much, but they can). Therefore, think about what is more important to you: saving resources or a beautiful view?

If you want to shoot two birds with one stone, then take Nova, N, Google or Evie - these are relatively economical, cute and multifunctional launchers. ADW and TSF are more demanding, but from this they have their own chips.

Try to download all the launchers you like and test them one by one for speed and convenience.

For maximum savings, try Apex Launcher, LauncherPro, Mini Launcher or Nano Launcher, they are scarce in features compared to the competition, but very economical.

One of the most interesting launchers at the moment. Eat like free versionand paid. The free version does not have some functions, but in general, the version is very interesting, moreover, it does not contain ads, so buying the full one is optional.

Nova is the progenitor of standard launchers from google... This is actually a copy of the interface from pure Android devices.

The main screen is presented in the form of folders and icons, at the bottom there is a menu of all applications launched via a shortcut or by swiping from bottom to top. The folders do not open completely, but only to the area required to display the content.

By long pressing the application icon, you can quickly delete it, open it in the settings, change the name and icon in the launcher.

Nova also supports gestures to which you can assign anything. There are many gestures, ranging from simple swipes up or down to swipes and two-finger gestures (available in the paid version only).

Nova Launcher is interesting for its features, appearance and autonomy. It looks very nice, is deeply customizable and doesn't require a huge amount of smartphone resources.

In the launcher, you can configure almost everything, or rather:

  • Number of dots on the desktop and application menu;
  • Icon size;
  • Font, font size, color of application names on the desktop, in folders and in the application menu separately;
  • Size and position of widgets;
  • Color and transparency of the application menu, folders and background of the dock bar;
  • Disabling and deep customization of the dock bar (pages, number of icons, background, signatures, color, transparency);
  • The way all applications are displayed: all together, by folders or departments;
  • Hide the app completely from the launcher;
  • Quick access to the application via swipe on the shortcut of another application or folder.

The launcher has the ability to deeply customize icons and activate icon packs. For each application, you can substitute any icon from any icon pack or, if you wish, create your own and take it from the explorer. In the personalization settings there is a function that activates one pack for all icons in the launcher and, when a new application appears, immediately adjusts its icon to the general standard.

3D launcher with many effects and wide functionality. One of the most demanding not only from our list, but in general. All resources are spent on elaborating each 3D animation.

For the owner of a rather powerful smartphone, TSF will be an excellent replacement for the standard shell. In terms of functionality, there is nothing special. In it, you can change the page layout, icons, label names, the number of rows and columns, this is no longer surprising.

Folders open in an interesting way like a fan. When pressed, a smooth animation occurs, in which the underlay of the folder goes down, and all applications fly out of it. When scrolling through the icons, they either return under the substrate, or jump out of it. The folder itself opens full screen with background blur, this takes longer than usual and sometimes you have to wait about a second before opening the application.

The same situation is with the menu of all applications, which, by the way, exists, but is not particularly configurable. The menu has a filter, a grid, and that's enough. It opens under various animations, which can be viewed in the settings for a long tap on an empty space on the desktop.

Widgets are interesting features in the launcher. They are perfectly animated and very user-friendly. For example, a calendar widget has the form of a ball, on each side of which there is information about the date and time. Through these widgets, you can control gestures and taps, which makes them a lot of functionality. Even if the widgets are not used, they play nicely, move and change colors. Everything looks nice.

A long press on the icon brings up a direct or rounded menu with background blur. It has everything standard features: delete, hide, rename and so on. In the settings, you can change the animation of the icon when you click on it and hold it. There is as a simple distance, zoom in or selection, and distortion, blur, and so on.

Nice launcher as an alternative to Nova. Go, unlike others like him, has a unique style. It is not copied from the Android system, but made in its own way, with its own icons, colors and animations.

At first glance, it may seem that it is no worse than others in terms of the number of settings, but in fact, Go is not as configurable as others. In the settings, the developers have made the necessary items by the type of grid, the size of the icons, and the like. But, alas, in this launcher you cannot customize the icon pack and the arrangement of icons and widgets on such a large scale. But this does not mean that the launcher is really bad, just for the most inveterate perfectionists, some nuances that cannot be changed can become a problem.

The launcher is adapted for most users. Initially, it is already normally configured and you can use it without any problems, and if necessary, correct some points.

All icons are adjusted to the general style. They receive an oval-shaped substrate with rounded edges and bulging walls. These unique icons are very cute and quirky, and there is no rudeness in them. The animations and blur effects are well done, there are not many of them. Folders, application menus and settings crash out smoothly with various spinning effects.

Folders open to full screen with strong background blur. The animation is smooth, but fast and does not make you wait long before launching the application. After a long tap or pressing the menu button, a slide-out panel opens from the bottom, through which you can open the smartphone settings or launcher, launch all sorts of built-in services, which you can read about below.

In the settings, everything is divided into items such as desktop, folder, all applications, notifications, gestures, and so on. There are enough gestures in the launcher, there are the usual up, down, double tap and unusual ones like rotation or gesture with two fingers.

The launcher has various services, which refer to the launcher itself indirectly. It is not necessary to install them. They are available in the menu by a long tap on the desktop. Among them there are such functions as clearing memory through a floating button, locking applications with a password, automatic wallpaper change and an online wallpaper catalog.

Multifunctional launcher, very similar to Nova. These are brothers that evolved from standard launchers in Android systems from version 4.4 and higher.

In ADW 2 there are a few innovations in contrast to Nova, but some are lost. For example, you cannot sort the list of all applications into individual folders. This is done using the lists, which are opened with a swipe from the left edge. A panel appears in which you can select a list containing all applications placed in it. It's not as convenient as folders in Nova.

On the other hand, ADW 2 more settings animations and a more thought-out system for setting the desktop, which is done directly in the menu for a long tap. Before starting to use, the launcher will offer you to choose the style of everything, where you can give preference to a specific version of Android. From the choice of the version, nothing will change much, but still it is important. There are the following Android styles in total: 4.4 KitKat, 5.0 Lollipop, 6.0 Marshmallow and 7.0 Nougat. In the future, there will definitely be versions from more modern android launchers. The animations have not increased much, but everything is exactly pleasant.

Also in ADV you can control the widgets, they are all collected in a convenient menu, from which they are sorted by application and size. Each application on the desktop can be assigned not only a swipe up but also down, which is very convenient for fans of minimalistic launchers with just a couple of icons on the main screen.

In general, they do not differ much, ADW is interesting with animations, widgets and gestures, at the same time, Nova is convenient in sorting and economy of resources. Yes, ADW definitely has a problem with this, as in this situation it requires a little more resources than is usually needed for a launcher.

Simple, uncomplicated, but interesting launcher that completely copies start screen of IOS versions 7-8. It is very similar to the original, but still has a couple of differences for more convenient use. For example, a long tap on the icon opens the usual menu with the ability to delete the application, look about it in the settings or rename it, and when you long press on an empty space, a menu appears with the launcher settings and the system settings shortcut, as in standard Android... And so everything is like the Apple smartphone. There are large oval icons, branded wallpapers and the absence of a list of all applications.

In the settings, by the way, you can hide some programs. Then, to display them, you will have to go into the settings again.

Also, the launcher does not support widgets.

Folders, as on IOS, open completely with a nice scaling of the wallpaper to the insides of the folder. There are problems with displaying the folder name, it disappears on the desktop, and then appears under the already open folder, but this is not particularly noticeable.

Another simple but extremely interesting launcher. It is based on simplicity, minimalism and attractiveness. Despite the small amount of resources consumed, Evie looks very attractive and has the most necessary functions.

In the settings, you can change the grid of the desktop, install the icon pack, configure a small number of gestures, and that's all. Folders open in full screen without any other effects. Everything is simple and elegant.

In the menu of all applications, sorting occurs alphabetically. On the one hand, letters, on the other, applications. In general, this is all easily configured in the same menu via special button in the corner of the screen.

With a long tap on the icon, you can delete the application, hide it or open it in the settings. Folders are sorted automatically, but you can do it manually by moving applications after a long press.

The launcher has an automatic sorting of all content into folders on the desktop. So applications are divided into games, browsers, editors, players, and so on.

Evie is perfect for lovers of simple launchers with good functionality. It is one of the most economical launchers in terms of consumption / function.

N Launcher - Nougat 7.0 and Google Start

Relatively simple, but quite functional launchers that completely copy the interface with Android version 7.0 - Nougat.

N Launcher and Google Start are almost the same, since they are the standard launcher on Android version 7. It's up to you to choose between them, we just advertise these programs, so to speak. Both - great alternative Nova or ADW 2, which requires fewer resources, but looks exactly the same.

N Launcher and Google Start are very stingy with settings in comparison with others. Already have standard functions for Android launchers in the form of setting the grid and size of icons, changing the scale of widgets and changing the color of folders / application menus.

In terms of settings, N and Start will not please you with anything, even in gestures everything is standard: up, down, double tap, two-finger swipes and circular movements, there is not even two-finger approach and distance.

But why is it worth downloading any of these launchers? They are much more energy efficient and more stable than any other launcher, because they were made for pure Android. They look no worse, and the management of applications through a long tap on their shortcuts is present, there is also a convenient widget menu.

So N and Google Start are very good, if you don't want to set up the launcher for a long time, but you just need to download and start daily use.

Additional launchers (Computer Launcher, Win 10, Smart Launcher 3)

In the review, I would like to mention other launchers that are not at all similar to the average Android device desktop. We will tell you only briefly, your task is to download and try, if short description interested.

  • Computer Launcher. A launcher similar to a full-fledged Windows 10. It has standard icons from a dozen, a start menu with shortcuts fixed in it, and even a basket. When you open File Explorer, it sits on top of the desktop instead of opening in full screen mode... In general, a rather unusual launcher for a smartphone.
  • Win 10. Another copy of Microsoft's works, only now in mobile processing. This is a full-fledged launcher as on the already dead Windows Phone. Only he with his own characteristics. It allows you to customize the color, background and even add wallpaper, so go for tile lovers instead of icons.
  • Smart Launcher 3. An unusual launcher, in which all the icons are arranged in a circular manner in the center of the screen. It is not particularly different, just all launcher apps are in the center of the screen and arranged in a circle.

Launcher apps have long been an integral part of Android. If you don't like the way your home screens look, you can simply download the app to change pretty much everything on the system. Z Launcher by Nokia
(Downloads: 862)
Nokia's Z Launcher is the last solution on our list, it is also an extremely minimalist launcher. It includes one home screen, an application tray, and an area where you can search. This is a unique premise that is great for those users who prefer minimalism and functionality without the overkill. The launcher is still in beta, but it already works surprisingly stable and decently.

The application management system on many devices (both based on Android and other operating systems) is characterized by low functionality and inconvenience in use - there is no way to quickly delete applications, move them in the device's memory, launch without pauses or freezes.

For simple and effective interaction with all applications on your device, you need a launcher - a special program that can interact with the file of any application by launching, deleting, interrupting or moving it.

How to choose the best and most suitable launcher for Android - this is described in this material.

Choice

Many factors play an important role in choosing such an application.

First of all, this is the degree of load on the operating system and the hardware component of the device.

A launcher that will take longer to launch than the applications themselves due to the fact that the phone does not "pull" it to install is impractical.

The same can be said for applications that take up too much of the device - they are not only slow to launch, but also unstable.

Also, when choosing such software, it is important to pay attention to its functionality and usability.

The table below shows the comparative characteristics of all the programs presented in the material, making it even easier to choose between them.

Nova Launcher

A functional and fairly easy to use, functional launcher that gives the user full control over the contents of his device.

It has a wide functionality and combines all the innovations available in similar programs from other developers.

Differs in sufficient stability of work and a very wide range of settings and room for costomization.

In general, the application is suitable for those who like to customize the functionality of programs "for themselves", as well as those who are used to the traditional shell design from this developer.

  • The presence of the most interesting innovations and "chips" that are available in the software of other developers;
  • Also the advantage is the wide space for costomization;
  • Wide range fine tuning functional.
  • New programs always focus on latest versions operating systems, many programs do not reach users with older versions of Android at all. This launcher, which works only on new versions of the operating system, was no exception;
  • Can "fly out";
  • Not very convenient control.

This is what users say, who still were able to start using the program:

“A good functional application usually works well. Recently, however, it has sometimes begun to "fly out" for no reason, and besides, it is not very convenient to open it. "

Microsoft Launcher

This launcher was originally designed to run on mobile devices with the appropriate operating system.

And although given type the operating system did not become sufficiently popular and in demand, some programs developed for it were rewritten and got their second life, since their use began.

The software works stably, has sufficient standard functionality for working with files, the same as in the applications described above.

Integrated with Microsoft services, which is convenient for lovers of programs from this developer. For example, you can view outlook data, Office, etc.

  • Such a convenient integration system is the main advantage of this application;
  • Another plus is the simple addiction when switching from Microsoft to Android;
  • Quite stable work.
  • Traditional Microsoft tiling that most users find uncomfortable;
  • Despite the fact that the influence of this launcher on the standard Android shell is quite significant;
  • Crashes some applications.

Users who have been using such an application for some time say the following:

“A stable, functional launcher with a wide range of settings. But last update did not correct almost any mistakes in his work ”.

C Launcher

A simple launcher with a nice design, not overloaded with unnecessary details.

It is distributed free of charge and works stably even on not very powerful devices.

A distinctive feature of it is the ability to track the user's actions on the phone in order to provide him with contextual prompts in the future. This is quite convenient and greatly simplifies and speeds up the operation of the phone.

  • Low load on hardware and battery;
  • Small amount of occupied memory;
  • The presence of contextual hints;
  • Very broad functionality.
  • A very large, compared to other software in this top, the number of ad units that sometimes interfere with the normal operation of the device;
  • Illegal grouping of labels;
  • Lags on very weak devices.

Users who have already become familiar with the application, leave such reviews:

It works stably on any, even outdated, devices, and according to this indicator it is the leader among all the programs listed above.

It has a minimal impact on the software shell and has almost no icons of its own - for this reason, fans of the Android menu may like it.

Has several beautiful animations. Equipped with gesture control functions. Does not significantly affect the internal settings of the phone or the operation of other applications.

Its advantages include:

  • Lightness, speed and stability of work;
  • Almost no effect on the standard interface of the device;
  • Lack of visual signs of the presence of a launcher.
  • Relatively narrowed functionality. But such a narrowing was a necessary measure to achieve a low weight of the software and its performance. However, the functionality allows you to perform all the basic functions;
  • Not too significant influence on the menu;
  • Sometimes does not save widget updates.
