Huawei g6 phone. Huawei Ascend G6 Black Smartphone Reviews. Appearance, arrangement of elements

The global expansion of goods from the Middle Kingdom is gaining momentum every day. And if a few years ago the phrase "Chinese goods" caused only a condescending smile, now things are quite different. Using their own experience, as well as global developments in the field of high technologies, Chinese manufacturers have learned to make truly high-quality products. This is confirmed by the fast-growing company Huawei, which ranks 3rd in the world in terms of production of modern smartphones. The key to such phenomenal success is the high functionality of the devices, at a relatively low cost. One of these gadgets was last year's flagship smartphone Huawei Ascend P6.

But how can you make a bestseller even more attractive? How to win the hearts of even more buyers? The production of a device with an already recognizable design, but with a lower cost may be a good solution. Huawei engineers have accomplished this task by bringing the model to market. Since the novelty has an almost identical appearance, is equipped with a good hardware platform and has a rather attractive price, it may well become a new favorite in the segment of the affordable smartphones market.

Delivery and equipment

The Huawei Ascend G6 smartphone came to us for testing in the form of a pre-sale copy, so the package contains some features. The device is packed in a relatively small box made of thick cardboard. It fits well and differs from the release version only in the absence of any printing.

The package contains the already traditional set of accessories: a charger, a USB cable and a good headset. Since this is a pre-release copy, there is no user manual or warranty card.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

The appearance of the novelty is almost completely identical to the previously tested smartphone Huawei Ascend P6, which is last year's flagship of Huawei. As before, it is a classic rectangular candy bar with slightly rounded edges. Metal has been replaced by high-quality plastic, which also looks stylish. Moreover, it is very pleasant to the touch. Despite the different material, the edging of the sidewalls is still stylized in aluminum, and it has a distinctive grinding.

The overall dimensions and weight of the device, compared to the Huawei Ascend P6, have remained practically unchanged and are 130 x 65 x 7.5 mm and 115 g, respectively. Is that the case is a little "fatter", and now its thickness is 7.5 mm versus last year's 6.18 mm. But thanks to this, the smartphone has become more pleasant to use, since its side edges now cut into the palm less. The device is quite comfortable in the hand, practically not giving out its presence.

On the market, Huawei Ascend G6 is presented in the widest color range. There are both classic body colors (black and white) and brighter variants (blue, pink and gold). So, in our opinion, any buyer will find the device to their liking.

The front panel of the smartphone is almost completely covered protective glass with a good anti-glare filter. The bezels around the display are fairly small: 12.5mm on the top, 12mm on the bottom, and 3.5mm on the sides. Along the contour of the screen there is a small plastic edging, which, in addition to decorative purposes, serves as additional protection against damage.

Above the display are: front-camera, chrome-plated manufacturer's logo, proximity and lighting sensors, LED indicator and earpiece opening, covered with a metal grill. Below the screen are three standard touch buttons: "Back", "Home" and "Menu", as well as the main microphone hole.

There is a micro-USB port on the top of the device.

On the right side there is a power button and a volume rocker.

On the left side there is a 3.5 mm audio jack for a headset.

The bottom edge of the device is free of any elements.

The back side of Huawei Ascend P6 is made of high-quality matte plastic, pleasant to the touch. It has an absolutely flat surface, without any protrusions or snags.

In the left upper corner the back side, in a small recess, is the main camera lens. Slightly lower in the center is the manufacturer's logo. In the lower left corner is the multimedia speaker grill.

The back of the Huawei Ascend P6 is equipped with a removable cover. It is held with snaps. To remove it, you need to pry on a special protrusion, which is located on the lower rounded edge. Since the lid is quite thin, it must be done very carefully, since it can easily break with a sharp movement. There is a non-removable battery, and there are also two card slots: micro-SIM and microSD.

As for the build quality, it is at a pretty decent level. The body of the smartphone is well fitted: there are no backlashes or gaps. It is also worth noting a good level of rigidity. At moderate pressure, the geometry of the device cannot be changed, and the image on the display remains without streaks or other possible artifacts.

The novelty is equipped with a good 4.5-inch IPS-screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. At the same time, the pixel density is at the level of 245 ppi, which can be considered a good indicator. Although the level of detail is not a record, it is quite enough for everyday use and displaying various kinds of information. The only minor problems with the display of small fonts.

Traditionally for IPS-matrices, the screen has high-quality color reproduction, good contrast and excellent viewing angles. It is also worth noting that the display unit of the smartphone is made using OGS technology, in which there is no air gap between the glass and the matrix. This makes the image more saturated and the colors more vivid.

As for the display backlight, it is at a fairly good level and has a good range of adjustment, which allows you to use the smartphone both on a bright sunny day and in low light conditions.

Protective glass is responsible for the safety of the screen, the name of which remains secret. Also on the manufacturer's website it is indicated that the display of this model has an oleophobic coating. However, in our case, it is either absent or almost erased. Since after a short interaction with the screen, there are clearly visible fingerprints on it, which are rather difficult to remove. In the commercial version with an oleophobic coating, these problems should not arise at all.

Built-in touch-sensitive display backing supports recognition of up to 10 simultaneous clicks. The screen is very sensitive and responds quickly and clearly to even light touches. Despite the absence of an oleophobic coating in our sample, the sliding of fingers on the protective glass is quite pleasant and does not cause discomfort. Already familiar for matrices of this type there is no support for working with gloves.

The Huawei Ascend G6 model is equipped with a good multimedia speaker, which is located on the back of the case, in the lower left corner. Since the back surface of the device has an absolutely flat surface, this arrangement muffles the sound quite strongly when the smartphone is placed with the display up. So the owner should be mentally prepared for missed calls, leaving the device on a sofa, pillow or other soft surfaces.

Otherwise, there are no complaints about the dynamics. Despite its compact size, it is quite capable of delivering quality sound. There are well pronounced highs and mids. And when playing certain songs, a hint of bass appears. Even at the maximum volume level, the sound is clear, without noticeable distortion. Therefore, without additional devices, the smartphone can be safely used for games, watching videos and making calls.

But this does not mean that you should not connect to the device high quality headphones... On the contrary, even the bundled headset is capable of providing quite good sound. This is facilitated by the "DTS" mode, which noticeably improves the quality of the high and mid frequencies, while not forgetting to improve the bass. All this makes the sound more enjoyable, adding depth and volume.

As for the earpiece, it is quite good here, moderately loud, capable of providing pleasant sound transmission. The volume level is quite sufficient for any conditions of use, but in especially noisy places you have to listen to the voice of the interlocutor.

Camera

Huawei Ascend G6 is equipped with a standard set of cameras: main and front.

The main camera is represented by an 8-megapixel BSI module with an f / 2.0 aperture. It is equipped with 5 plastic lenses with Blue Glass infrared filter, one-section LED flash and autofocus. The camera is capable of recording 720p video at 30 fps. There is also support for "HDR" photography mode.

The front camera has a 5-megapixel module with an f / 2.4 aperture and a sensor pixel size of 1.4 microns. It is equipped with 4 plastic lenses with a Blue Glass infrared filter and is also capable of recording 720p video at 30 fps. A special feature of the camera is the lens, which has a viewing angle of 88 ° and a focal length of 22 mm.

The quality of the photos is at a fairly good level. The work of the front camera is especially pleasant. There is natural color rendition, correct white balance and good image detail. Separately, it is worth noting the "HDR" -mode, which copes well with its direct task, significantly improving the image quality when shooting in low light conditions. So in most cases the owner will be satisfied with the result.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about video quality. Here, neither the main nor the front cameras managed to distinguish themselves. Detail and color rendition are fairly mediocre. The only thing that pleases is the good quality of the recorded sound.

Branded software, which is responsible for controlling the operation of cameras, has a good level of performance and an intuitive interface. Its design is based on the once fashionable skeuomorphism. The menu has good functionality, and also provides easy access to the settings, the location of which is remembered after the first use. Among the useful functions, it is worth noting the presence of panoramic shooting and face recognition mode, as well as the ability to shoot with one touch. In addition to this, the front camera provides a "smart" self-portrait mode. Unfortunately, as with most modern smartphones, you cannot change the ISO level, correct white balance and exposure compensation. On the other hand, the user can benefit from the instant photo retouching mode and several preset color effects.

User interface

The Huawei Ascend G6 smartphone comes with a pre-installed Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, which is complemented by the proprietary Emotion UI 2.0 Lite shell. Despite the higher serial number, before us is the same, familiar from last year's flagship model, Emotion UI version 1.6. It looks, as before, very attractive and provides quite extensive functionality.

In place, useful features such as the ability to personalize the user interface, customize gestures, a notification manager and a fairly effective energy saving manager remained. A useful addition can be considered new regime displaying the desktop, in which the matrix of icons is slightly reduced, and therefore the font size in the built-in applications increases. This is a good way to reduce eye strain and will be very useful for people with low vision.

On the home screen of the smartphone, in addition to the four standard customizable icons that are available for each desktop, there is a search bar and a large collection widget. It contains: weather, audio player, photo gallery and two sites for quick contacts. If necessary, the user can independently customize this menu by adding or removing the elements he needs. Also, applications and widgets can be conveniently arranged between desktops or sorted by folders.

The notification shade has quick access to useful functionswhich greatly facilitate the operation of the device. For example, quick launch of Wi-Fi and GPS, setting the auto-rotate screen and a number of others.

By going to the list of running applications, you can easily close unnecessary programs, as well as get acquainted with the information about the occupied and free amount of RAM.

Menu huawei settings The Ascend G6 is divided into two tabs, which are navigated using the selection bar at the top of the screen. The "General" section contains the most requested and frequently used functions. And in another section, called "Everything", the entire extensive list of settings that the operating system has is concentrated.

In general, using the device running Emotion UI is very convenient and quite practical. The interface is intuitive and you get used to it quickly. System speed and animation smoothness are at high level, which causes only positive emotions.

Hardware platform and performance

Despite the information from the official website, which indicates that in huawei smartphone The Ascend G6 uses a Qualcomm MSM8X12 processor, which belongs to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 family, specifically our review unit is based on a newer and more powerful platform. The device is based on a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) processor with a maximum clock frequency 1.2GHz with 1MB L2 cache. It is manufactured based on the ARM Cortex-A7 microarchitecture, following a 28nm manufacturing process. The integrated graphics are Qualcomm Adreno 305 adapter with an operating clock frequency of 450 MHz and support for OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenVG 1.1, OpenCL 1.2 and DirectX 9.0c. The amount of RAM is 1 GB. The smartphone is equipped with built-in memory of 4 GB, of which only 1.8 GB is available to the user. In our opinion, this volume will be extremely small if we take into account the size of the modern multimedia content and some applications. Fortunately, the device has support for microSD cards up to 32GB.

Although the performance of this model is far from being a record, it is more than enough to carry out almost all daily tasks, including for running modern games. For example, the maximum level of smartphone performance is clearly seen in Asphalt 8: Airborne and Dead Trigger 2. In the first case, the application was running at maximum graphics settings, while showing a good FPS level. In the second, for a comfortable gameplay, I had to lower the level of detail to medium values. Otherwise, performing simpler tasks such as mobile surfing, checking mail and watching videos does not cause any problems.

During our tests, we noticed a noticeable heating of the case, which can cause some discomfort with prolonged use. It is noteworthy that the front side of the smartphone lends itself to heating a little more than the back.

Communication and communications

Huawei Ascend G6 model supports all mobile networks, including not only GSM, WCDMA / HSPA +, but also modern high-speed 4G LTE:

  • 2G GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz;
  • 3G WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz;
  • 4G LTE 800/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 MHz.

This smartphone is equipped with a radio module that supports one SIM card. During the tests conducted, the call quality and voice transmission were at a good level: there were no interruptions or spontaneous drops. However, it should be noted that this also depends on the carrier used.

The communication capabilities of the smartphone are represented by Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n modules. The latter has support wi-Fi functions Direct and Wi-Fi Hotspot, but only capable of operating in the 2.4 GHz band. There is also DLNA support.

The data transfer rate over Wi-Fi (wired connection 100 Mbps, router supporting 802.11n) shows the following results: up to 36 Mbps for receiving and up to 27 Mbps for sending. Searching for Wi-Fi points and connecting to them is very fast, and established connection has good stability.

Huawei Ascend G6 is equipped with a geolocation module that supports GPS, GLONASS and Beidou systems. It provides very fast and fairly accurate positioning. The quality of its work is at a good level: on average, during testing, the smartphone found about 30 satellites and successfully connected to 11 of them. At the same time, the positioning accuracy was 15 meters.

The tested model is equipped with a fixed lithium ion battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. As for a modern smartphone - a rather small volume. With a moderate load and performing everyday tasks (surfing the Internet, checking mail, listening to music), this capacity is enough for about a day of work offline.

Testing showed the following results. While watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, MKV container, 4 Mbps stream) at 50% brightness of the display and wi-Fi modules and the GPS smartphone worked a little over 3 hours. In the case of a game simulation using Epic Citadel (“Guided Tour” mode), the device lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes at 100% display brightness and the included Wi-Fi and GPS modules. According to the GFXBench benchmark, the estimated battery life of the smartphone is 222 minutes, that is, almost 4 hours. To restore a full battery charge from the supplied charger you need to spend about 3 hours of time.

Outcome

Defeating outdated stereotypes, Huawei continues to delight its fans with quality and affordable devices. The one we tested can also be safely attributed to this category.

Successfully using the stylish design of last year's flagship, and making the necessary changes, Chinese engineers have created a fairly good smartphone. The productive "heart" of the device (in our test version) is the 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, which, together with the Qualcomm Adreno 305 graphics accelerator, is quite suitable not only for performing everyday tasks, but also for running modern games. The modules of both digital cameras are capable of taking fairly high-quality photos, which will greatly delight the potential owner. And if you consider that the Huawei Ascend G6 can work with modern 4G LTE mobile networks, and it is equipped with an excellent geolocation module with support for GPS, GLONASS and Beidou systems, then it is quite capable of becoming a strong competitor in the market of affordable smartphones.

The only drawbacks are the absence of an oleophobic screen coating in our test version (it should be present in the commercial version) and noticeable heating of the case during intensive work.

Otherwise, we have a modern, lightweight and compact, well-assembled smartphone, which has not only a pleasant appearance, good hardware platform, but also boasts a very affordable price.

Advantages:

  • pleasant appearance;
  • good build quality;
  • compact size and weight;
  • good 4.5-inch IPS display with a protective coating;
  • high responsiveness of the touch pad;
  • support for microSD memory cards up to 32 GB;
  • good performance level;
  • good sound quality of multimedia and spoken speakers;
  • availability of GPS, GLONASS and Beidou modules;
  • good modules of the main and front cameras;

Huawei is a well-known Chinese brand that produces inexpensive but high-quality electronics. The novelty of 2014 - Huawei Ascend G6 - has become a fairly popular model. The owners' reviews testify to the balance of the smartphone, an excellent quality / performance / price ratio, while it also has its drawbacks.

Front design

The smartphone is an exact copy of the once flagship smartphone Huawei - Ascend P6 models. The gadget demonstrates a compact design philosophy thanks to the medium screen diagonal, narrow bezels around it and well-chosen colors. The Huawei Ascend G6 Black looks especially impressive: the body is not just black, but rather graphite.

In front of the G6 is a compact 4.5-inch display, with a fairly narrow bezel around (not nearly as invisible as in the LG G2, but in the spirit of many analogues). Placed above the screen:

  • 5MP eye;
  • speaker grid;
  • set of sensors automatic adjustment brightness and approximation;
  • LED notifier, notifying of missed events, removal and the need to install the charger.

Under the screen, there was a place for the opening of the spoken microphone and 3 touch-sensitive buttons with backlight: "Back", "Home" and "Menu". When turned on, the first drawback of Huawei Ascend G6 is immediately noticeable: reviews indicate that their illumination is very uneven, which greatly deteriorates the initial attitude towards the smartphone as a representative of the premium segment.

Back view

The back panel is made of plastic, although visually it looks more like aluminum. The color scheme of the back panel and sides is diverse: Huawei Ascend G6 white, black, pink, blue, gold. The frame around the screen can be black or in body color.

In the upper left corner is an 8 megapixel camera with flash. To the right of the camera's eye is barely noticeable the hole of an additional microphone designed for noise reduction, surround sound recording for video. In the center of the rear panel there is a modest logo of the manufacturer, and at the bottom there is a speaker grill.

If you remove back panel, opens access to two slots for micro SIM cards and a memory card (microSD format). Dual-SIM is a serious trump card of the Huawei Ascend G6. An overview of the inside of the case shows that the battery itself is not removable in a device with a removable panel. This is a significant disadvantage for devices with Android system, because the battery is really weak here.

Keys, connectors

G6 ends include the following features:

  • On the right is the power and volume buttons. They have a quiet and short click, easily felt with your fingers.
  • On the top is a microUSB connector (synchronization + charging).
  • The lower end for functional connectors is not used.
  • At the bottom of the left side there is a strangely located 3.5 mm "mini-jack" for headphones. According to reviews, the connector is located inconveniently. When watching movies and playing games (that is, when the smartphone is held in a horizontal position), such a mini-jack is more or less successful. But when listening to music and audiobooks through headphones, putting your phone in your jeans pocket is difficult. You will have to purchase either headphones with an L-shaped connector.

Ergonomics Huawei Ascend G6

User reviews about the ergonomics of the device are mostly positive. Optimal display diagonal, rounded "metal" ends, narrow screen frame, small body thickness make it easy to manipulate the smart phone with one hand.

The build quality of the device is average price categorywith a removable cover is respectable. No backlash, no creaks. Dimensions Huawei Ascend G6 are 131.2x65.3x7.5 mm. The device weighs only 115 grams, which makes it seem too "toy" in the hand. This is confirmed by almost everyone who held the G6 in their hands.

Display Huawei Ascend G6

A smartphone review is impossible without evaluating the quality of the screen. The device has a high-quality QuarterHD: 960x540 pixels. At 4.5 inches, the picture looks sharp, without glare or inversions. The viewing angles are comfortable - the maximum possible for this type of matrix. Color rendition, brightness, contrast - according to reviews - are liked by most owners of the device. Remarkable performance is achieved by state-of-the-art manufacturing technology with no air gap in the display / cover glass assembly. The phone is equipped with a brightness control sensor, but, unfortunately, it works with a frank delay of 5-10 seconds. The display is “multitouch”, it recognizes 10 touches at the same time.

Multimedia

The playback of multimedia files is handled by proprietary Huawei applications. You can use an equalizer called DTS, but using it does not always improve the sound of your favorite songs. Unfortunately, there is no way to record a conversation from the menu of the conversation itself, although a separate application for recording an audio file is present. Video playback - through the gallery.

The speaker of the phone is located on the back. The sound quality of the front and rear speakers is mediocre, although you can still hear them in a noisy place. The vibrating alert has the same average power indicators (it is not always possible to feel it). Speech transmission takes place without distortion, the volume is not enough for some users.

Main camera Huawei Ascend G6

Reviews of the cameras are controversial. On the one hand, the image quality of the main camera is sufficient for a family album. On the other hand, the 8 megapixel photo module is noticeably worse than that of the predecessor Ascend P6. Many would like more megapixels. Autofocus of the main camera sometimes "misses": when you press the on-screen shutter button, a perfectly focused frame is displayed on the screen, and after a sound "click" of the shutter in the final photo, the focus is changed, the photo turns out worse. In addition, in low light conditions, the pictures are very blurry. But in the rays of the sun or with the flash on, the quality of pictures increases noticeably.

Front camera

The front camera, in many devices standing "for show", delights the inexperienced audience. The resolution of 5 megapixels plus high-quality photos is the key to a good "selfie". By the way, it was Huawei with the Ascend P6 model that became the ancestor of “selfie backgrounds”. Photos taken with the front camera of Huawei G6 are of high quality.

The camera interface is similar to stock Android, but with nuances. A long tap on the shutter icon activates burst shooting (reminiscent of Apple devices). Among the various shooting modes, it is worth noting:

  • autofocus in motion;
  • responding to a smile;
  • activation of voice recording.

In the "Gallery" you can make a simple photomontage.

operating system

The base is Android 4.3. However, Huawei has offered its own Emotions UI 2.0 Lite. According to reviews, it is very convenient, although less functional than the shells of competitors (iOS, Lenovo, MIUI and others). Allows you to change the theme, gesture control settings. A well-thought-out energy manager has been installed. The only difference between 1.6 and 2.0 is the simplified interface. This mode enlarges the font and icons on desktops, making them easier to access for the visually impaired and seniors who are just getting used to the world of smart phones.

Modifications

There are several design options that differ not externally, but technical stuffing... In the modification of Huawei Ascend G6 U10, a Qualcomm MSM8212 processor is installed, a less productive Adreno 302 graphics, 4 Gb of non-volatile memory. The "older" modification of the Ascend G6 4G features a Qualcomm MSM8926 processor, 8 Gb graphics, a new high-speed LTE 4G data transfer standard, and an NFC chip.

Additional functions

The filling of the smartphone is the most modern. An accelerometer and even a gyroscope are installed, which is not characteristic of inexpensive models. A useful attribute is the GPS module. According to reviews, it accurately shows the location. Thanks to the Geotagging function, you can link the exact coordinates of the place where they were taken to the photo. The Ascend G6 U10 modification contains a complete list of communication modules: HSPA, HSPA +, EDGE, LTE. Bluetooth itself latest version - 4.0. What is a modern smartphone without Wi-Fi? The standards are 802.11b, g, n.

Performance

The heart of the Huawei Ascend G6 is the dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon. The processor model depends on the modification of the Huawei Ascend G6. Let's continue our review with the clock frequency: regardless of the chip used, it is equal to 1.2 GHz. It is paired with the Adreno 305 (or 302) GPU processor, which successfully copes with medium-heavy games.

The test programs showed the following results:

  • Vellamo Mobile Benchmark - 1969 (452) points;
  • NenaMark 2 - 52.9 points;
  • Quadrant - 7667 points;
  • AnTuTu - 16460 points.

The results are not the best, but for mid-range smartphones, the indicators are good. The mobile device copes well with everyday tasks, but starts to slow down under heavy loads. Most games run without annoying lags.

Random access memory 1 GB is enough (many smartphones and tablets are "content" with 512 MB). Internal non-volatile memory Huawei Ascend G6 - 4Gb, or 8Gb. In fact, the user is left with 909 MB of "RAM" and 990 MB of internal space. The rest is occupied by the system. Expandable memory with microSD cards (official support up to 32 GB).

Autonomy of work

The Huawei Ascend G6 phone is equipped with a battery that is too small in capacity: 2000 mAh. In addition, it is not removable. According to reviews, when used as a phone (an hour of calls, SMS, applications, internet, some casual games), the device lasts about a day without recharging. AnTuTu Battery shows 330 points - not a high score. With very active use, constant communication in in social networks, surfing the Internet, SMS, numerous calls, you can count on 12-14 hours of work. The device charges quite quickly: only 3 hours.

Positive reviews:

  • Good quality screen;
  • Branded shell;
  • Attractive design and ease of use;
  • The amount of RAM.

Negative reviews:

  • Insufficient speaker volume;
  • Strange location of the headphone jack;
  • Short working time;
  • Camera autofocus slowdown;
  • Delayed operation of auto-adjustment of display brightness.

Output

In general, the Huawei Ascend G6 evokes positive emotions. The device is "friendly" to a person. Convenient, shows a good picture, has good technical characteristics. As it is commonly called - "workhorse". Its stylish design just can't help but please. The smartphone will delight lovers of "selfie". The main camera is sufficient for family shooting on a sunny day. It is important to keep an eye on the charge level and remember to take the charger with you.

Huawei has long been integrated into the smartphone market and even won the trust of buyers. Today we have a representative of the middle class in our review - Huawei Ascend G6. A phone with a cool design, decent specs and terrible call quality.

Huawei Ascend G6 was presented at WMC 2014, the start of sales in Ukraine is scheduled for early summer (not long left). In terms of positioning, the G6 is most likely a mini-version of the thin smartphone in the world - Huawei Ascend P6, the review of which you could already see here.

Specifications:

Operating system: Android 4.3.

Display: 4.5 ″ 960 x 540, IPS.

CPU:4-core Qualcomm MSM 8X12, frequency 1.2 GHz.

RAM: 1 GB.

Camera:front - 5 MP, main - 8 MP, autofocus.

Additional modules: Bluetoth, Wi-Fi, GPS, HSPA +.

Battery: 2000 mAh.

The weight: 115g (without Sim).

Appearance

Outwardly, the Ascend G6 does not look like those hundreds of millions of identical smartphones that have divorced in our open spaces. It can be seen that Huawei designers do not eat their bread for nothing. Rounded corners, metal bezels and a bezel around the camera make the device very attractive. As for the controls, everything is simple here: a coupled volume rocker is located on the left side, a screen lock key is located just below, and a headphone jack is on the right side. There is nothing on the bottom (except for the hole for removing the rear panel), on the top there is a MicroUSB connector.

On the front panel, above the 4.5-inch IPS screen, there is the Huawei logo, earpiece, LED and front camera. Under the screen there are three touch-sensitive keys (with backlight) and a microphone. At the back there is an 8-megapixel camera module and a flash, below is a speaker (its quality, to put it mildly, is not the best). The battery is not removable, but hot swapping of the SIM and memory card is supported.

Thanks to its thickness (only 7.5 mm), the smartphone fits comfortably in the hand. Even in spite of the plastic case, it does not strive to slip out. But the build quality terrified me: with not very strong squeezing, everything creaks (it feels like it’s about to break).

Screen

An IPS-display with 960x540 pixels is installed here, and it is really good. The brightness is high, the colors are saturated, the viewing angles are maximum, due to the absence of an air gap, the screen behaves decently even in the sun (everything remains readable). If you want boring numbers, then please: the minimum brightness is 19.7 cd / m², and the maximum is 421 cd / m², the contrast is 679: 1. In general, I was satisfied with the quality of the screen, especially if you remember that this is a model of the middle price segment.

The screen is not scratched - it is not yet known Gorilla Glass whether it is, but the glass is definitely tempered. I also have no complaints about the operation of the sensor, everything works fine. Only the auto-brightness sensor behaves inadequately, so you constantly have to twist everything with your hands in the settings.

Camera

Both huawei cameras Ascend G6 caused only positive emotions in me. At this point, the manufacturer clearly decided not to save money, and did the right thing. Main camera (8 MP) takes pictures good qualityand thanks to BSI technology, photos are great even in low light. Naturally, there is also a flash (with a 22 mm viewing angle). And the front camera is generally a separate conversation (where else will you see 5 MP in the front camera?). Ideal for taking selfies (self-tested).

The number of modes in the camera settings is also pleasing (filters, HDR, panorama, sound triggering). Each mode is interesting in its own way, for example, the panorama in the Ascend G6 is made circular (that is, the photo ends where it starts). The reaction to sound is also special, the camera is triggered not only by formulaic phrases ("cheese"), but also by any loud sound (explosion of clap).

As for the video capabilities, everything here is also at a decent level. The recording is done in 720p.

Performance and memory

The device is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8X12 processor (4 Cortex-A7 cores, 1.2 GHz) paired with an Adreno 305 GPU. There is 1 GB of RAM. As for the benchmarks, everything is at a high level. This configuration completely allows you to run demanding 3D toys (Real Racing 3 is almost perfect). According to subjective impressions, Huawei Ascend G6 works quickly and smoothly (for the entire time that I had it on the test, it never froze).

The built-in memory here is 4 GB (of course, a little less is available for the user), it can be expanded with an SD card (up to 64 GB). By the way, it is possible to mount a memory card (in the settings) in place of a permanent one, then all applications will “think” that the device has a lot more memory (however, if the SD card is not 2 GB).

Interface

Huawei Ascend G6 is running operating system Android 4.3, the Emotion UI 2.0 Lite shell is installed on top (we already talked about it in detail in the review). There is nothing revolutionary here, all the same themes, an application manager and energy saving and the ability to customize gesture control.

It might come as a shock to some, but there is no separation between the desktop and the application menu (like the iPhone majors). All system applications Huawei redrawn it, so there is practically nothing left of bare Android.

There are some unusual applications to look out for. First, the phone manager. It allows you to optimize work (unloads all "garbage" from memory) and can restrict access to various information (for example, to contacts). Second, Kingsoft Office. This is such a file manager with a minimal set of necessary programs (player, data backup, etc.).

Autonomy

The smartphone has a 2000 mAh battery, the Ascend G6 did not give any record results, but it is enough for a day of active use. You shouldn't have expected anything more from an Android smartphone, perhaps it's also about optimization.

Eventually

I will not hide, after a week of use I got used to the smartphone and even fell in love with it. It has two main features for me: excellent autonomy (compared to mine Samsung Galaxy Ace 3) and a good camera (not only the main one, but also the front one), and, you must agree, the filling is solid. But there is still one drawback - the quality of communication, it sometimes leaves much to be desired here. From time to time the interlocutor complains that they do not hear me; besides, I, too, sometimes got it in fragments. The volume of the spoken speaker is low (and it's not clear whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem, let's hope the latter is the case). The price is still unknown, but, most likely, it will be in the region of 2500-3000 UAH.

Huawei mobile devices have long ceased to cause laughter with their name and distrust among users. Moreover, it is among them that you can find something beautiful and much more original, while more eminent manufacturers repeatedly stamp similar friend on another model. This time we will tell you about the Huawei Ascend G6 - a beautiful and generally good device, but with a number of very controversial qualities.

Appearance

Huawei Ascend G6 stands out noticeably against the background of standard remnants and strict rectangles. There was a place in it for everything - both for strict lines and for soft rounded corners. The Huawei Ascend G6 has few notable features. The back panel is made recognizable by the camera frame, the sides are polished metal edging.

Due to its small thickness, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand, and having adapted, you can even reach almost any point on the screen. However, due to the fact that the smartphone is more rounded at the top, in the first days of our acquaintance it seemed to me more convenient to hold the device upside down - this way it fits better in the palm of your hand. However, this strange sensation quickly passed, and I was already holding the device in every way, without experiencing any discomfort.

The location of the connectors and buttons can hardly be called standard. The headphone jack was at the very bottom of the left end. The USB port is on the top panel, slightly shifted to the right. Both buttons - volume and power - are located on the right panel. There is nothing interesting on the bottom end, except for a small notch that allows you to remove the back panel to access the SIM card and memory card. The battery in this model is non-removable.

The location of the speaker is familiar - at the bottom of the rear panel. And since its surface is flat, when the smartphone lies on the table, it "stalls" somewhat. Although, even without this, the Huawei Ascend G6 speaker itself can hardly be called very high quality - already with an average volume level, it goes into metal and starts to choke.

The main advantage of the front panel is the screen with a thin bezel. Thanks to this combination, the smartphone is relatively compact. There are other important elements on the front panel - three touch keys under the display, a front camera, an earpiece and a light sensor. A microphone is placed on the front panel, so that it is aimed at the user as much as possible, which improves the quality of the recorded sound.

Screen

The Huawei Ascend G6 display is something that can make you think for a long time. On the one hand, it is good - bright, rich in colors and even with a light sensor. On the other hand, despite the fact that the manufacturer's website lists the IPS matrix, it has a small “blind” zone, in which the image is inverted like a TN matrix. Perhaps this is a shortcoming of the test sample, possibly the effect of some kind of filter located between the matrix and the protective glass. But the fact remains - at 178 degrees of screen viewing, there are angles at which the colors of the image are distorted and inverted. Color reproduction, in my opinion, is also not the best, with a noticeable departure in blue shades. The same opinion is confirmed by measurements with a colorimeter. The color gamut graph is noticeably shifted towards cold shades, the color temperature line has galloped far beyond 6500K. However, the rest of the charts are far from ideal.

Comparing the brightness and contrast of the screen with similar models, I can say that at least everything is not so bad here. Its brightness is sufficient for comfortable work in bright sunlight, and this is a plus. The contrast is average. But the brightness of the black field hints that the smartphone is not able to accurately convey it.

In general, everyone who finds fault with the quality of the picture on the screen should think about another smartphone and whether the other advantages of the Huawei Ascend G6 will outweigh its screen shortcomings.

Features and characteristics

The configuration of Huawei Ascend G6 is pleasant enough for a mid-range device. A quad-core processor and 1 GB of memory provide a good performance margin, and good optimization in the menu is noticeable. There are no unnecessary effects, everything is displayed smoothly. I did not notice lags when playing games or running several resource-intensive applications at the same time. Positive subjective impressions are confirmed by the results of software testing.

Quadrant 8331 points, which is slightly higher than the recently tested LG G2 Mini and is quite pleasant for mid-range devices. The smartphone also showed good results in other utilities: Antutu Benchmark gave it a result of 16295 points, and Nena Mark 2 counted 52.2 fps. I additionally tested the graphics capabilities using 3D Mark, where the smartphone received 4441, 2307 and 3983 points in Ice Storm, Ice Storm Extreme and Ice Storm Unlimited modes, respectively.

In the smartphone performance test when working with html5, Vellamo, the device earned 1978 points in HTML5 mode, 450 - in Metal mode. A negative aspect in testing the smartphone was its heating. The Huawei Ascend G6 heats up really noticeably.

The shell of the Huawei Ascend G6 is not like the shells of most other Android smartphones. Like the Huawei Ascend P6, the manufacturer used an interface without a menu section. All icons and icons are brought directly to the desktops, which you can create as many as you need. You can collect shortcuts into folders, use widgets - in general, everything is the same as in any other modern smartphone. And at the same time there is also the opportunity to choose how the labels and icons will look - several design options are available. They perfectly complement the pre-installed themes, so you can play with personalizing your device for a long time.

In addition to the attractive shell itself, among the software advantages of Huawei Ascend G6 there are several original applications. For example, Phone Manager is a simple-looking utility that optimizes device performance. For example, you can use it to clear the memory on a memory card by deleting unnecessary files like cookies. You can also improve performance slightly by listing programs that continue or do not continue to run in sleep mode; make a list of programs that automatically start when the smartphone starts, issue and do not issue notifications. But the most interesting sections are Rights Manager and Threat Filter. In the first, you can set access rights to important data for you - contacts, calendar, messages, etc. The second section is even more interesting, among other things there is a Black List - a rarity for modern devices. And here you can block both calls or messages separately, and a completely specific contact.

Among other interesting software, I will note the pre-installed Kingsoft Office, a convenient file manager and a full set of "essential" programs - from a player and a flashlight to a program automatic installation SD card applications and backup utilities.

It is worth dwelling on the device settings. In addition to the usual functions, there is a DTS mode that improves sound. There are many original ringtones and messages - a trifle, but nice. For example, all the time I tested, I pissed off those around me by meowing a cat and bleating a sheep. Of the more useful - the presence of a simplified operating mode, setting up motion control.

True, it was not without small opuses. For example, the Log Tool is unlikely to be used frequently by Ukrainian users - its menu is written in a mixture of English and hieroglyphs. They are full of hieroglyphs and "previews" when installing themes.

As a fly in the ointment, the actual telephone qualities of the Huawei Ascend G6 act. Either because of the weak transceiver, or "thanks" to the metal edging on the side panels, but it picks up the signal very mediocre. I calmly talked on it on the street, but in an apartment or a supermarket, the connection periodically began to fail - the sound disappeared, the call was interrupted, etc. I'd like to believe that this is a lack of the sample, but considering that similar problems have arisen in the past with other devices with metal ends, this is probably not a single problem.

There is one more disadvantage, which is difficult to explain - it is connected, most likely, with surges in the power supply system. When you listen to music through headphones and at this time press the power button to turn on the screen and look at the time, for example, or incoming messages, the sound sharply becomes one and a half times louder. After a couple of moments, the volume level is restored on its own, but this behavior of the smartphone cannot be called pleasant.

But with the time of work, everything turned out to be not as bad as I for some reason expected. The 2000 mAh battery of the Huawei Ascend G6 is enough for a confident day of work with my usual active use. If you use it mainly for calls and listening to music, only occasionally looking through mail, social networks and sending Instagram photos, you can hope for two days of work.

Cameras

Among the undoubted advantages of the Huawei Ascend G6 is its photographic talents. The manufacturer clearly did not save on either the rear or the front camera.

The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and is made using BSI technology. This is very good, as it allows you to get better images in lower light, with less noise and artifacts. In addition to the BSI-matrix, this model is equipped with high-aperture optics with a wide viewing angle (22 mm). Both advantages are clearly visible in the test shots.

The second camera, the front one, has a resolution of 5 megapixels, which is rare among smartphones in general, and even less often among the middle class. The matrix here, however, is ordinary, not BSI, but the pictures are of very high quality, videos are also.

In photography mode, almost all settings are available for both cameras. And there are a lot of modes here. This is a familiar panorama, and built-in filters for processing skin in portrait shots, and sound triggering, and photography with sound. I will dwell on the most interesting. The first is the panorama. Its Huawei Ascend G6 makes it circular. That is, the panoramic shot ends in almost the same place where it starts. The smartphone glues the panorama well and efficiently, the main thing is not to jerk your hands too sharply and precisely align the points. The second interesting mode is recording with sound. When activated, the Huawei Ascend G6 records 10 seconds of sound immediately after the shutter is clicked. Perfect for recording nature, children and animals.

Sound triggering is very funny. Huawei Ascend G6 reacts not only to the usual commands such as "cheese", but also to any sound - the main thing is that it is correct in volume. For example, it can be a dog barking or a cry of a child, or just clapping your hands. But the smartphone does not respond to the purr of the cat - it is too quiet.

As for the portrait enhancer, I didn't like it. Before the shot, the Huawei Ascend G6 displays a slider that allows you to adjust the degree of blurring of skin areas in the range from one to ten. As a result, you can hide minor imperfections of the skin, although the texture is lost, the skin becomes slightly "plastic".

Of course, all these functions are present in compact cameras and even some smartphones, but nevertheless, it's nice to find them in a mid-range device. Especially - in combination with a good base (matrix and optics are really worthwhile here).

In the dry residue

I really liked the Huawei Ascend G6 with its design, conquered with the original menu and almost instantly struck with two good cameras... But he finished off with not so pleasant moments - the periodic loss of communication and the inability to talk normally on the phone without repeating everything several times, anyone will get mad. Based on this, and with an eye on a very pleasant price (about 2500 hryvnia) - I recommend buying at retail store and first thoroughly check for this particular drawback. If it is not there, if the sound does not jump when the screen is turned on, it's worth taking. Well, if these shortcomings are not just the peculiarities of the sample I was testing, it is worth considering whether you need a phone that, in general, is not a phone at all?
