Stickers

The laptop model can be indicated on information stickers that are placed on the bottom or front of the gadget. On these elements, in addition to the model, you will also find information from the manufacturers and about the laptop series.

It is worth noting that stickers often get torn off or rubbed off during use. Therefore, this option is also not always successful.

Battery

If the stickers on your laptop are not preserved, try going the other way - inspect its battery. This is not at all difficult to do: On the bottom side you will see a pair of latches (some laptop models may have one latch). Sometimes laptop owners are faced with the question: “How to find out the brand of a laptop?” Often it does not arise out of idle interest, but is necessary to solve a problem or task. For example, to find suitable drivers, replace equipment or repair. In such situations, it is not enough to know only the name of the manufacturer and series of the device; you need to find out the exact part number and use it as basic information to find a solution to the problem. In this material we will consider everything possible options how to find out the brand of laptop HP, Samsung, ASUS and any other. Most methods are suitable for each model.

Information in documents and complete brochures

Perhaps the most obvious and familiar way for people to find out the brand of a laptop and equipment in general is to look at the documents that the manufacturer or seller carefully included with the device. However, this option is not the most suitable, since, firstly, it is not always possible to find a passport for a purchased laptop, and secondly, there is a human factor involved, which means that you could have accidentally been given documents from another computer. Some sellers even make the mistake of providing brochures with false information in the kit in order to increase interest in the product.

Stickers on the laptop case

Typically, manufacturers of Windows-based laptops do not care much about the exterior of their gadgets, so they do not hesitate to cover them with stickers from top to bottom with information about the system and hardware. This is only to the benefit of the user, because often the device model is written on them. This method Suitable for when the computer is not working. Stickers with information about the laptop model can be located in the work area (under the keyboard), on the bottom of the laptop, or on the battery (most often under it).

In HP laptops new series stickers are hidden on the bottom of the laptop, where you can get information about the series and the exact configuration. Stickers with a serial number are often placed on the battery. ASUS usually writes all the information directly on the front sticker, next to the Windows license sticker. If someone, based on his aesthetic preferences, has already managed to remove it, he can always remove the battery or remove the bottom of the computer, where there will certainly be markings.

BIOS

If the computer is running or at least boots before entering the BIOS, then the information can be found right there. To get into the BIOS, you need to use one of the hot keys that operate while the computer boots. The most commonly used keys are F1, F2, Delete, and less commonly found are F8 and F12.

On ASUS laptops, sometimes you need to first hold down the F2 key, and then the power key. On solutions from HP, the F10 key is most often used. Once in the BIOS, you don’t even have to look for anything; the Product Name column will be displayed on start screen and will provide complete, and most importantly, accurate information.

How to find out the brand of your laptop using the command line?

For those who do not trust graphical interfaces and bundled documentation, there is an option to display the device name via the command line. This is especially true for Linux, where there may be no graphical interface at all; there this can be implemented using sudo commands(dmidecode I grep -A 9 “System Information”), after entering the command it will be displayed basic information about the device, including brand and article number. On Windows, you can use the wmic csproduct get name command to get the model name and code without additional information.

System utilities dxdialog and msinfo in Windows

In the Windows operating system you can find at least two hidden utilities who have information about the characteristics of the computer used and its model. The first is called dxdialog, the second is msinfo. To launch them, you need to press the Win (Start) + R (K) keys, enter dxdialog or msinfo32 in the dialog box and press Enter. One of the programs will open, displaying complete information about the device.

Via the Control Panel in Windows

Those who are more accustomed to working with a graphical interface instead of going into the weeds system utilities, can log in and view the information of interest in the “Control Panel”. IN Windows versions(before Windows 8) Control Panel is hidden in the Start menu. In Windows 10, you can find it through the built-in search. Having opened the "Control Panel", you need to go to the "System" submenu, where information about the computer model will be displayed.

Through third-party utilities

Many laptop manufacturers equip their gadgets with additional software, which allows you to find out the exact characteristics of the computer and the full name with the code of the entire series and specific model. You can download these same programs yourself. Among the most popular are:

  • AIDA64 (formerly Everest) is a famous utility familiar not only to users of Windows-based computers, but also to Android fans. Displays in its interface the most complete information about the device, including characteristics and scores in various performance tests.
  • Speccy is a more preferable option for those who just want to find out the brand of their computer, since this utility is distributed free of charge and has a simplified interface.

Some laptop manufacturers offer their own utilities. For example, HP has reserved the Fn + Esc key combination in the system, which allows you to instantly go to the HP Support Assistant program interface, where you can find all the necessary information. ASUS takes a slightly different path and offers for download a software package for working with motherboard and BIOS. ASUS AI Suite allows you to update/reinstall the BIOS and displays information about installed hardware, including device configuration, serial number and exact name.

How to find out the exact MacBook model?

How to find out the brand ASUS laptop, Samsung, HP and others, figured it out. It remains to talk about the happy owners of Apple computers. Finding out which series a laptop belongs to is quite simple, just look at the markings under the display, but with the exact model and characteristics it is more difficult. If you have new computer, then you can open the system menu (the apple icon in the upper left corner), select the “About This Mac” submenu, and then click the “System Report” button. The problem is that the information in this menu can be faked, which is often used by scammers when selling a computer second-hand. In order to obtain the most accurate information, it is necessary to install free utility Mactracker and open the “My Device” submenu in it. The screen will display the model number, specifications, support status and much more.

Welcome to my blog!
Sometimes a computer user is faced with the question: “How to find out the laptop model.”
This may be needed, for example, when you need to download drivers for it or find instructions for it. This may also be needed when replacing components, when purchasing a power supply for it or a battery.

In fact, there can be many reasons for knowing the model name of your laptop or netbook, and each user should be able to determine it independently. Even if you constantly use your laptop, after some time you simply forget which model you have and can only name the manufacturer.

There are a lot of ways to find out the markings of your laptop and some of them are the same as when determining the markings of your iron friend. So I recommend programs that will help you maintain this, as they may be useful to you in the future.

Please note that there is practically no universal option to find out the markings of your laptop; any of these options may not work. It depends on the condition of the laptop, its model and the programs we use. Even the most reliable way, this is a marking on the laptop itself; it may not help you if it is simply missing or if it is erased.

Therefore, I advise you to adopt several methods that you like best and use them. When writing the article, I checked these options for different laptops and on some one method worked, but on other models it was useless.
The article is divided into several points, from the simplest and most obvious to the more complex, choose any one and use it.

YOU CAN FIND OUT YOUR LAPTOP MODEL:

You can find out the laptop model by looking at the emblems or stickers on it.

The easiest and most obvious way to find out the laptop model is to look at its markings and the stickers that are located on the bottom of its case.

On some models, the marking is located on the front, on the side of the screen or on the panel with the keyboard; you just need to look at it carefully. But of course, such markings are not applied to all models, so keep in mind that they may not be there.

You can get more accurate information about your model if you turn it upside down and look carefully at the stickers that are on its bottom panel. On each laptop the manufacturer leaves detailed information on a special sticker, so that after reading it you will get complete clarity about what model you have. An exception can only be for those models that simply did not have such a sticker for various reasons. Then you will have to use one of the options described below in the article.

You can also disconnect battery and see if there is a sticker on the body underneath it; on some models the marking can be seen there.

Look at the instructions or the driver disk.

If you are the owner of a new laptop and carefully store all the documentation for it, then you are lucky, you can find out the markings of your model by reading this documentation.

Not all instructions may contain the name of your model, but in my case I was lucky and from the instructions for my laptop I can see which model I have.

A driver disk can also help you recognize the markings; if you have such a disk, look at it, maybe you will be lucky and you will read the name of your model on it.

Having looked at the sales receipt for the purchase of a laptop.

This method is more of an exception to the rule than normal advice, since not all users keep receipts of their purchases for several years.

I was lucky enough to have a laptop purchased in 2011; in 2016 I still have a receipt from this purchase, from which I can accurately determine the name of the model of your laptop. If you carefully keep all your receipts and warranty cards, look at them, they will help you find out the model of yours.

Using the BIOS you can find out the laptop model.

This method is far from universal, since not all laptops can read the model name in the BIOS, but it must be taken into account.

Go to the BIOS of your laptop and immediately on the first page, which is called “Information”, in the “Product Name” line you will see the name of your model. But I repeat, not all laptops have such information, it depends on your luck.

Please note that different models Laptops display information about themselves differently when viewed in different programs.
The name of some models can be seen in the “Model” line, and the name of others in the “Version” line. This must be taken into account when viewing information in such programs and look at both lines.

Using the Windows command line.

Using the command line console, you can also find out the markings of some laptop models; let's look at two options for how this can be done.
Open a command prompt Windows string, by pressing the Win+R key combination and in the “Run” window, enter the command “cmd” without quotes. A command prompt window will open where you will need to enter the desired command.

The first command is:

wmic csproduct get name

Enter it and press “Enter”, after which you will see the name of your laptop model in the line below.
This command is difficult to remember, the next command is much easier to use. Enter the word in the console:

and press “Enter”, after which information about your system will appear in the console.

You need the “System Manufacturer” and “System Model” lines where you can find the information you need.

Just keep in mind that this method does not work on all computers, on some you will not see the name of the marking, for example, my Lenovo was not detected by this command, since it can be identified in the “Version” line, but Samsung was able to be identified, it is clearly visible in line “Model”.

Using the DirectX diagnostic program.

A standard Windows utility called dxdiag.exe can help you determine the model name of your laptop. When you run it on a desktop computer, it will show you the marking motherboard your PC, and when using it on a laptop, it already shows its markings.

Click on the “Start” button and enter the command in the search bar:

A window will open called “DirectX Diagnostic Tool”, with which we can find out the markings of our laptop.

Here you need to go to the “System” tab, where we are interested in only two lines:
“Computer manufacturer” – will indicate to us the name of the manufacturer’s company.
“Computer model” – its marking.
But keep in mind that this program cannot always show you the laptop model, only if it is visible to the program as a model, and not as a version.

How to find out the laptop model using programs that show information about the computer.

There are many programs that can help you get complete information about the contents of your computer, and some of these programs will help tell us what model our laptop is.
We will get acquainted with some of them in this article.

Using the Everest program.

The Everest program has been on users' computers for quite some time, and despite the fact that new versions of this utility have already appeared, it can still serve us and tell us what model of laptop we have.

http://www.lavalys.com/

To do this you need to do the following:
1. Open the program and in the “Menu” tab, select “Computer - DMI”.
2. In the right window of the program, open the “System” item, and at the bottom of the window look at the lines “Product” and “Version”, where you will see the name of your laptop model.

Using the PC Wizard program.

The next program with which you can find out the model name of your laptop is the PC Wizard information utility.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/pc-wizard.html

Open the program and go to the “Hardware” section by selecting the “ icon” Motherboard”.

Here, in the right window of the program, go to the “Manufacturer” section and in the lower window, in the “Product” or “Version” line, you will see the name of your laptop model.

Using the AIDA64 program.

The AIDA64 program is an updated version of the same Everest and in appearance they are very similar and you can find out the markings of a laptop using this program.

http://www.aida64russia.ru

Download any version AIDA programs 64 and run it. The program is paid, but it won’t hurt us to get the information we need.

Just like in its previous version, go to the “Menu” tab and:
1. Open “Computer - DMI”.
2. In the right window, open the “System” tab, and in the lower window, in the “Product” or “Version” line, you will see the name of your laptop model.

Using the SiSoftware Sandra program.

The SiSoftware Sandra application is designed to diagnose and analyze computer components and with its help you can also find out the laptop model.

You can download the Belarc Advisor program from the link:

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

When you launch the program, your system will be analyzed and its results will be shown in the browser.

To find out the characteristics of your laptop, you need to look at the “System Model” section, which is located at the top right of the program window.

Using the Windows utility – “System Information”.

Windows has standard utility, which shows the user information about the system of your computer, it is called “msinfo32″ or simply “System Information”.
To open it, you just need to click the “Start” button and enter the name of the program in the search bar – “System Information”, Windows will find it and all you have to do is run the utility.

On the main window of the program you will see basic information about your computer and if you have a laptop, then in the lines “Manufacturer” and “Model” you will see information about its marking.

I have described only some programs that can be used to obtain information about your computer; in fact, there are many more. For example, the very popular CPU-Z utility can also show you the laptop markings in the “Motherboard” tab in the model line, but this does not work on all models.
I recommend using several options and programs for the test, since they all display information about the system differently and to find out for sure, it is better to try several options.
If you know any other ways to find out the laptop model, please write about them in the comments to this article.
Good luck!

The laptop serial number is sometimes required to obtain support from the manufacturer or to identify it technical characteristics. Each device has a unique number consisting of a different number of characters, which is determined by the manufacturer. This code indicates that the laptop belongs to a certain series of devices with similar characteristics.

Usually, each laptop comes with instructions for it, where the serial number is indicated. In addition, it is written on the packaging. However, such things are quickly lost or thrown away by users, so next we will look at several other simple ways to determine the unique device code.

Method 1: View the text on the sticker

On each laptop there is a sticker on the back or under the battery that contains basic information about the manufacturer, model, and also the serial number. You just need to turn the device over so that the rear roof is at the top and find the corresponding sticker there.

If there is no sticker, then most likely it is under the battery. You will need to do the following:

  1. Turn off the device completely and unplug it.
  2. Turn it over back cover upwards, open the latches and pull out the battery.
  3. Now pay attention - there are various inscriptions on the case. Find the line there "Serial Number" or "Serial number". Those numbers that come after this inscription are the unique code of the laptop.
  4. Remember it or write it down somewhere so that you don’t have to remove the battery every time, and then all that remains is to assemble the device. Of course, this method of determining the serial number is the simplest, but over time the stickers wear off and some numbers or all the inscriptions are not visible. If this happens, then another method should be used.

Method 2: Searching for information in the BIOS

As you know, the BIOS contains basic information about the computer, and you can start it even without installing operating system. The method of determining a laptop's unique code through the BIOS will be useful for those users who have encountered certain problems that prevent them from fully starting the OS. Let's take a closer look at it:

    Method 3: Using special programs

There are a number specialized programs, whose functionality is focused on identifying computer hardware. They help you find out detailed information about components and the system. If you are using a laptop, the software will immediately detect this and show its serial number. It is usually displayed in the tab « general information» or "Operating system".

There are a large number of such programs, and read more about them in our article. It will help you choose the most suitable software for determining the unique device code.

Method 4: Using the Windows WMIC Utility

In all operating versions Windows systems older than 7 there is a built-in WMIC utility that allows you to quickly determine the device serial number via the command line. This method is very simple, and the user will only need to perform two steps:

As you can see, the laptop serial number is determined in just a few steps in simple ways and does not require additional knowledge or skills from the user. All you need to do is choose the appropriate method and follow the instructions.

A short article that will help you find out the model of your (or someone else’s) laptop or netbook. In this case, you don’t even have to look for its box or documentation (although this is also an option). This may seem trivial or uninteresting to some, or questions may arise like “How can you not know the model of a laptop” or “Who do you have to be to not find out such simple information”, but in reality there really are situations when you need to determine the laptop model, but there seems to be nowhere to look. In general, I won’t linger for long and will get straight to the point.

1) We look at the sticker on the case itself where the keyboard is. It may be ridiculous, but sometimes people forget about it and don’t watch it. Banal inattention.
A similar sticker can also be on the monitor.

2) As I wrote above, look at the laptop/netbook box. Sellers often stick price tags on it indicating the model and characteristics. Manufacturers can also draw this on the box themselves.
You can also look at the documents, but they most often provide one documentation for the entire series, so the chance to find out the model is unlikely.

3) We turn the laptop over and look at what’s on the bottom. Most often, the information we need is there.

4) We remove the battery. Often you can also see the laptop model under it:

5) Let's find out using standard Microsoft tools,

To do this, open and enter the following command:
wmic csproduct get name

The result should be like this:

6) We will also use the usual using Windows. The method is suitable for Windows 7 and 8.

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties and look:

7) Using the program AIDA 64(former Everest) You can also look at the laptop model.

This program was created to view all information about the computer and system. It used to be free (when Everest was still there), but now it has become paid. Probably it became too popular and the producers decided to make money on it...
But she has trial period in 30 days to “enjoy” all the delights of the program. but we generally need it for a couple of minutes, so we download it from, or even better, immediately from and watch it.

8) Using the program Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit You can also find out the laptop model. It is free, but does not have support for the Russian language, and besides, the size is 3 times smaller than the previous one from point 7.

We download, install, launch and receive a detailed report with a lot of data. But we only need one “System Model” block

That's all I have. I think 8 ways to look and find out the laptop model will be enough for you.
