Acer Aspire R7 laptop review: upside down. Load operation, heat level, noise

Acer aspire 7 (A715-71G-513Z) is a fairly thin laptop equipped with a backlit keyboard and capable of delivering acceptable FPS in AAA games. Moreover, its price does not bite. Let's see what disadvantages the laptop has. After all, they should be at that price. The first formal flaw is the name. Firstly, the Aspire 7 family includes not only notebooks from the modern line, but also fairly old solutions. Secondly, this family includes both 15.6 "models and laptops with a 17.3" display. In general, it is possible to navigate which model is being considered only by code that is difficult to remember. And if the "reviewers" are rubbish, then a potential inexperienced buyer such an approach to naming can be very confusing. However, this is not a drawback of a laptop, but of marketers, who have another drawback in their karma. We are much more interested in what the laptop itself is capable of and what its weaknesses are.

Appearance

Despite the good filling and low cost, the manufacturer did not save much on the exterior of the laptop. Of course, the enclosures are plastic, but the lid and panel of the work area are made of aluminum alloy with a rough-grinding effect. In addition, there is a small unpainted bevel on the workspace panel, which makes the laptop look more interesting and expensive. But black metal surfaces collect prints very quickly, which is why the case quickly loses its attractiveness.

The torsional rigidity of the case is quite high, so you can only bend the laptop a little with considerable effort. Unfortunately, when trying to twist and squeeze, the case crackles a little. But still there are no special remarks about the build quality.

There are no functional elements in front. Only a large ventilation grill is visible at the back.

On the left side surface there is a Kensington lock connector, a memory card slot, RJ-45, HDMI, USB Type-A (USB 3.0), and USB Type-C connectors. The latest USB 3.1 Gen1 connector, no Thunderbolt support, because the laptop is relatively inexpensive, and you need to save on something. Right installed following items: an external power connector, a pair of LED indicators, a headphone or headset connector, as well as a pair of USB Type-A ports, but in the USB 2.0 version. In general, another savings, although, given the presence uSB port Type-C (USB 3.1), this is not so critical.

The bottom of the laptop is flat, with many ventilation grilles, which, on the one hand, has a positive effect on the cooling efficiency, and on the other hand, it helps to collect dust. At the corners closest to the user are the speakers. There is also a pair of covers available, one of which is hidden hDD, and under the second - memory card slots. In our modification, only one module with a capacity of 8 GB is installed, so the amount of RAM can be relatively painlessly increased to 16 or 24 GB. The body rests on a pair of plastic protrusions in the center of the bottom, as well as on 3 rubber feet, one of which is stretched over the entire width of the body. The contact area with the mounting surface is huge, so the laptop is extremely tenacious to the tabletop. A distinctive feature of the laptop is the huge opening angle of the lid, which is approximately 210 degrees. In general, a good bonus for those who like to work while lying with a laptop on their lap. Not a transformer, but nevertheless, the laptop has earned its plus sign in the piggy bank.

The laptop uses a full-size island-style keyboard, complemented by a numeric keypad. The width of the letter key is 15.3 mm. [Yo], it is [~], in width is much less - 10.5 mm. The keys of the digital block, which are 12.5 mm wide, also suffered. In addition, the [up] and [down] arrow keys have been halved in height. Of course, the function keys are also reduced, but this is no longer so offensive. From a subjective point of view, the key travel is too soft - the letter key is triggered with an effort of only 36 grams. The rebound occurs with a force of 16 grams.

The touchpad is medium in size - 106 * 78 mm. The keys are integrated into the touchpad. Also, a fingerprint scanner is built into the touchpad, which you would not expect in a relatively inexpensive laptop.

Display

The laptop uses an IPS-matrix with a matte protective coating and Full HD resolution. Matrix model - BOEhydis NV156FHM-N42. The manufacturing company is currently a subsidiary of SK Hynix, Inc., but was originally known as Hyundai Display Technology Inc. In general, this is not some little-known manufacturer, but a rather eminent one, and it is included in the TOP10 manufacturers of LCD matrices. But the tested model is inexpensive (already in our retail it can be purchased for about $ 50), so you shouldn't expect a miracle from it.

The viewing angles, as for an IPS matrix, are not too great. Of course, when viewed from an acute angle, the colors are not inverted, but the contrast drops significantly. With the maximum backlight power, the brightness of the white field is 209.52 cd / m2, and the brightness of the black field is 0.29 cd / m2, which gives the final static contrast ratio of 723: 1. Unfortunately, the backlight uniformity is not good, and the largest deviation from the maximum level is 24%. In addition, backlight leakage zones are clearly visible on a uniform black field.

The color gamut is quite narrow and corresponds to the standard sRGB color space by only 64% and 50% to AdobeRGB. The color temperature is slightly underestimated, and is in the range of 6175 ... 6325K.

The deviation of Delta E color on the gray wedge turned out to be scanty, but on the colored fields it is quite large. Actually, it was precisely due to the small deviation in the shades of gray that the average error turned out to be relatively small - 5.29, while the maximum error in the test shades was an impressive 23.09.

But on the other hand, the uniformity of color across the field of the frame is pleasantly pleasing - the deviation of delta E does not exceed 2.6, therefore, with the help of hardware calibration, you can achieve a very good color rendering. But at the same time, do not forget that such a correction invariably leads to the appearance of more pronounced steps on gradient fills.

Sound

The laptop is equipped with a pair of speakers installed at the corners of the bottom closest to the user. Thanks to this arrangement, the distance between the speakers and the mounting surface acts as an acoustic chamber, which gives a certain volume to the sound. In general, the sound is free of any obvious defects. In addition, the cabinet does not resonate when the volume is set to maximum. But the sound quality is not high. The sound is flat, the low-frequency range is noticeable only from a frequency of about 120 Hz, the high-frequency range does not differ in quality and only the middle frequencies sound acceptable. But at the same time, one cannot fail to note the rather high volume of the speakers. When playing a test sinusoidal signal with a frequency of 1 kHz at a distance of 1 meter, a sound pressure level of 84.7 dBA was recorded. The signal level at the analog audio output is medium. When playing a test signal and operating at a 32 Ohm load, a level of 311.3 mV was recorded.

Noise and heat

In normal office operation, the laptop's cooling system rustles almost imperceptibly - the noise level is extremely low, and for example, when working in read mode, the cooler periodically stops. Under load, the cooler, of course, makes more noise. To identify all the intricacies of the system, the processor stress test was first activated in the AIDA 64 package, and 15 minutes later, the Furmark stress test was launched in parallel, which loads the video subsystem. The total duration of the stress test is 30 minutes, the ambient temperature is 21 degrees Celsius. If the frequency, temperature of the processor, or the noise level changed significantly, the measurement results were entered into summary table... It is noteworthy that at 100% load on the processor, the sound pressure level generated by the cooling system does not rise above 39.8 dBA, and there is not even a hint of throttling. With additional activation of the GPU stress test, the cooler was slightly overclocked. However, even in such operating conditions that are far from the real mode of use, the cooling system turned out to be very effective. With the additional activation of the maximum load on the GPU, the frequency of the CPU cores began to sink to 2.5 GHz, but it never came to throttling.

Case heating temperature was measured at 9 points on the bottom and 9 points on the working area after 30 minutes of parallel ADIA64 and Furmark stress tests.

Performance

The laptop is based on a bundle of Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor with clock frequency 2.5-3.5 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics cards with 2 GB onboard memory. The RAM is only 8 GB, which is a necessary minimum for modern games. But, as mentioned above, the amount of RAM is easy to expand. The bottleneck of the system is the disk subsystem based on a conventional, not a hybrid, 1TB hard drive. The tested modification uses a Toshiba MQ01ABD100 hard drive with a spindle rotation speed of 5400 rpm and a buffer with a modest capacity of 8 MB. In general, even without testing it is clear that this is the first candidate for an upgrade. It is worth noting that a slow disc periodically causes freezes in heavy games, which affects not only the average frame rate, but also the overall comfort of the game.
Overall system performance measured using Futuremark PCMark 8, PCMark 10 and 3DMark, Geekbench 4. Disk performance measured using Crystal Disk Mark. The following laptops were taken as opponents:
: 15.6 inches, 1920 x 1080 pixels, Intel Core i7-7700HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, 8 GB RAM, SSD + HDD;
: 15.6 inches, 1920 x 1080 pixels, Intel Core i7-7700HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB, 8 GB RAM, HDD;
: 15.6 inches, 1920 x 1080 pixels, Intel Core i5-7300HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB, 16 GB RAM, SSD + HDD;

Preset minimum and maximum quality settings are used to evaluate game performance. Vertical sync is manually disabled.

Autonomous work

The laptop is equipped with a non-removable battery with a capacity of 46 W * h, which is clearly not enough for long-term operation, given the used "filling". When tested according to our methodology, the notebook lasted only 276 minutes in reading mode, 223 minutes in video playback mode, and 50 minutes in gaming mode. The results are modest, but the battery recharges quickly. It takes just an hour and a half to charge up to 85%, and 138 minutes to fully charge.

Conclusion

Acer has managed to create a reasonably balanced laptop with an excellent cooling system for a reasonable price, on which you can run modern AAA games. Of course, I had to save on something. For example, the USB Type-C connector does not support Thunderbolt 3, a disk subsystem based on a slow "hard drive", the sound of the built-in speakers without obvious defects, but not very pleasant, although the LCD matrix is \u200b\u200bIPS, but its viewing angles and color gamut are small , and the color deviation delta E is decent.

Minuses:
- easily soiled metal surfaces;
- viewing angles of the matrix;
- narrow color gamut of the display;
- significant shift in the displayed colors;
- uniformity of display backlighting;
- slow disk subsystem;
- duration of battery life;

Pros:
- huge opening angle of the lid;
- keyboard backlight;
- display contrast;
- quiet and efficient cooling system with an excellent algorithm of work;
- no throttling even with simultaneous 100% CPU and GPU loads;
- performance in games (including cost);
- fast battery charging;
- cost;

Intel and Microsoft have made tremendous contributions to touch control in notebook computers in recent years. The former strongly encourages manufacturers to use touchscreens in their Ultrabooks, while the latter is pushing its new Windows 8.1 OS with a rethinking interface adapted to sensitive displays. Touch screens are gradually appearing not only in miniature ultrabooks - they can often be found in monoblocs, and even in medium-format laptops they have begun to come across quite often.

You can not even mention the various "transformers" - they have a touch layer on the display is considered perhaps the most important component. One of these devices that came to us for testing is the Acer Aspire R7. The laptop (let's call it that after all) lacks an optical drive - it is too thin, so at first glance it can be confused with another member of the ultrabook family, although in fact it is considered a convertible laptop.

One of the highlights of the laptop is the touchscreen display, equipped with an Ezel hinge, which makes it easy to transform a medium-format laptop into a large “almost tablet”. In terms of the transformation mechanism, the R7 is a bit like Sony VAIO Fit 15 multi-flip - well, let's see how comfortable and reliable it is for our test subject. The second highlight is the location of the touchpad and keyboard. For some reason, Acer decided to swap them.

⇡ Appearance

As mentioned above, the Acer R7 is quite thin by the standards of a mid-format laptop, and it can be transformed into a tablet. However, do not forget that the optical drive has become a victim of this ergonomics altar.

For some, this may be a significant drawback, but in the era of inexpensive and capacious flash drives, such a drawback can be easily forgiven. According to the manufacturer, the laptop has an all-metal case, with a soft soft-touch coating on the bottom.

Due to the design of the Acer Aspire R7, there is a large notch on the lid, where a retention foot is located, which holds the laptop display. There is no need to worry about the integrity of the cover at the point of contact with the leg - there is a rubber insert that protects the case from scratches during transformation.

In tablet mode, the display does not completely adhere to the body, but at a slight angle. Alas, this drawback is inherent in many transformers. The Acer Aspire R7 is the middle link between a laptop and a tablet, weighing 2.4 kg. Therefore, in tablet mode it is more convenient to use it not in the hands, but on a horizontal surface, where a slight tilt will be very useful for comfortable work with a large touch screen. The manufacturer claims that the user can select the desired screen position with a slight movement of the hand. However, one hand, and even more so with a light movement, is not enough.

The hinges turned out to be quite tight, so when transforming the laptop with the other hand, you have to hold the base so that the laptop does not budge. However, the transformation mechanism has a more significant drawback than sliding along the mounting surface. Acer R7 came to us for tests after the exhibition, where everyone could try the Ezel loop in action and, of course, play around with the mechanism a lot. Of course, no one was particularly careful, but, to the credit of the laptop, nothing got loose, and the cunning patented Taiwanese design did not fall apart after such executions. Only small and long scratches appeared on the working area, closer to the back side - the fault is not in the well thought out design of the display or its legs. During the transformation of the device into a tablet and back, the monitor body touches the working area: scratches from this "interaction" are clearly visible in the next photo.

Scratches from the monitor case are especially noticeable

There are a pair of status indicators in the front, as well as a pair of microphones, and there are two large ventilation grilles in the back. On the left there is a proprietary Acer connector that looks like Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, but in fact is neither one nor the other. This is the port for connecting a VGA adapter. Next to it is an HDMI port, as well as a pair of USB 3.0 connectors, a universal audio jack for connecting a headset (or headphones / microphone). Right - memory card reader, USB 2.0 port, dual volume rocker, power key, and connector charger.

The bottom of the laptop is made of plastic with a soft-touch coating - usually no one does that, but in the case of the Aspire R7, such a coating on the back of the laptop is justified. In tablet mode, it is much more pleasant to hold on to such plastic than usual. The bottom is flat, and small ventilation grills are provided only in the area of \u200b\u200bthe rear legs. By the way, the transformer has as many as 6 rubber legs, and all of them are very large. But, as already noted, not very tenacious. Therefore, the laptop will slide both on a lacquered or glass tabletop, as well as on a regular office desk made of coated chipboard. Also on the bottom, closer to the user, a pair of speakers is installed.

The working area of \u200b\u200bthe laptop looks extremely unusual, because the manufacturer decided to completely rely on the touchscreen and swapped the touchpad and keyboard. From a subjective point of view, this castling is catastrophically inconvenient, but it makes you more often use touch screen... None of the touchscreen ultrabooks that came to us for testing could convince the author of the advantage of the touchscreen. But after a couple of days of communication with the hero of this review, when working with a stationary PC, the hands themselves reached for the usual display in order to press something on the screen. Why? It's simple: you quickly get used to good things. Indeed, unlike most ultrabooks, the Acer Aspire R7 has a display that does not wobble with every light touch.

The touch panel is huge, its size is 106x77 mm, but due to the non-standard placement, this does not give any advantages. The bottom corners of the touchpad, as usual, are the left and right keys of the pointing device. Their move was unexpectedly soft, but at the same time noisy. In addition, the moment of pressing is not felt at all, and you have to navigate exclusively by clicks.

The keyboard has only one drawback: there is no additional numeric block, which, if desired, is not so difficult to place in a medium-format laptop. Otherwise, this is one big plus - it is perfectly fixed, so even with very strong pressure, the base does not bend, the key travel is of medium hardness, and the moment of actuation is perfectly felt, in addition to everything, the keys are practically silent. In general, working with such a keyboard is a pleasure. There are few pressed keys - traditionally it is the long-suffering "tilde" ("ё" in the Russian layout), as well as arrow keys. We should also mention the white keyboard backlight. It is very uniform, and there are two levels of glow. Of course, there is no smooth adjustment, but even a couple of levels allows you to choose a more or less comfortable level of brightness in any light.

Design

The laptop is designed in a discreet elegant style. All surfaces are matte - even brutal men will like the design. The cover is textured, fingerprints and dust on it, if they remain, are not striking. In the middle of the panel is a small brand logo, there are no other elements. It is impossible to lift the lid with one hand, it is very tight. The hinge mechanism holds the screen securely in position, so the display does not tilt forward or backward. The cover opens 180 degrees.

The screen is surrounded by frames of medium thickness, on the top there is a webcam, on the bottom - another Acer logo. Work zone With the same textured surface as the lid, it is spacious and cool to work with. The full-size numpad keyboard is slightly recessed into the surface so it doesn't touch the display when the laptop is closed. The interfaces are evenly distributed along the side edges of the case.

The laptop case is made of aluminum. The weight of the structure is 2.9 kg, the dimensions are 423x290x28 mm. A relatively small thickness was achieved due to the lack of optical drive... The build quality of the Acer ASPIRE 7 A717-71G is excellent: the details fit well, there are no backlashes, squeaks or sags.

Display, sound and webcam

The laptop has a screen with a diagonal of 17.3 inches and a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. In the back of the room, working with the display is very comfortable, while near the window in sunny weather, the image may appear dull. In general, the color reproduction is natural, the picture is rich and realistic. The surface of the screen is matte, so glare does not threaten it and this is undoubtedly a big plus.

The IPS-matrix used by the manufacturer provides wide viewing angles, so that regardless of the selected angle, the picture will be consistently bright and juicy, without a hint of inversion. It is convenient to watch movies, videos, work with images on such a screen, in a word, the display copes well with everyday tasks. In addition, it implements Acer Color Intelligence technology, with which you can adjust the brightness, contrast and other parameters as you wish.

The laptop has speakers with Dolby Audio Premium support. They sound good, in any case, there are enough opportunities for comfortable watching videos, playing music in the background. You can also connect a headset or external speakers.

The 1MP webcam is suitable for video communication. She also knows how to photograph, but she does it badly: the image turns out to be dull and indistinct.

Keyboard and touchpad

The full-size keyboard is made in an island style, so there are quite a few free space - so as not to accidentally touch the nearby. The travel of the keys is average; when pressed, you can feel a soft click and tangible recoil. It is convenient to type, and your hands do not get tired even after a whole day at work.

The keyboard is backlit, so you can work without problems in poor lighting conditions. The layout is standard, you don't have to retrain and get used to anything. So, we have a single-row button, elongated and large,,. The pointer unit is too small, but the hand does not reach out to it very often, so you can safely survive. What is not very convenient is the absence of a strip of free space separating the keyboard unit from the numpad. As a result, sometimes it can happen accidental presses "not there". By the way, the power key is in the right upper corner, it is small and inconspicuous - this also does not cause delight.

The manipulator has a smooth surface and clear boundaries. It features enhanced sensitivity, superior touch response and advanced multi-touch gesture support. In its upper part there is a square of a fingerprint scanner. We would prefer to take it out separately from the main unit, but there is no choice. The sensor reads data quickly and reliably protects the system from prying eyes.

Performance

Notebook Acer ASPIRE 7 A717-71G-58HK (NH.GTVER.007) runs on Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS. Among the hardware components, the quad-core Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor of the Kaby Lake generation dominates. The chip operates at a frequency of 2.5-3.5 GHz and supports Hyper-Threading technology. It is made using a 14 nm process technology, has 6 MB of L3 cache and consumes 45 watts of power.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 graphics card with a frequency range of 300-1000 MHz is responsible for graphic data processing. She copes well with everyday tasks, like web surfing, audio / video, Photoshop, etc. But she has little to do with games, and even then, only for casual. Fortunately, the laptop also has a discrete graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 2 GB of its own video memory of the GDDR5 standard. Let's see it in action: the game Prey (2017) on high settings and with Full HD resolution it will show 69 frames per second, and For Honor (2017) and Resident evil (2017) - will go with 57 fps.

The amount of RAM in the laptop is 8 GB of DDR4 standard out of the maximum possible 32 GB. As for data storage, here is where to roam: the device has a 1 TB hard drive and a 128 GB SSD.

Ports and communications

On the left side of the laptop is an RJ-45 network connector, USB Type-C and USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI video output, an SD / SDHC / SDXC card reader and a Kensington lock slot.

On the right are two USB 2.0 ports, a combo audio jack and a charging jack. From wireless communications, the device provides wi-Fi modules 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 4.0.

Battery

Acer ASPIRE 7 A717-71G is equipped with a 4-section lithium polymer battery capacity of 3220 mAh. The results of autonomy are quite modest: in web surfing mode, the laptop will last about three to four hours on a single charge, games will discharge it in about an hour and a half. On the other hand, if you use this laptop only at home or in the office, then putting it on charge at the right time is not a problem, so there is no reason to be sad!

Conclusion

The cost of the Acer ASPIRE 7 A717-71G laptop is about $ 900. For this amount, the user gets a stylish laptop wrapped in an aluminum case. The 17.3-inch screen has Full HD resolution and IPS-matrix, so it broadcasts bright, saturated, rich colors without inversion. The laptop has a comfortable keyboard and a responsive touchpad, plus a fingerprint scanner. Note, of course, the performance: the device is equipped with a seventh generation chip and NVIDIA graphics for playing modern games. Moreover, a discrete video accelerator is rather a bonus, because the laptop is not related to the gaming class.

We also liked the wide range of interfaces with USB ports of any format. The only thing that darkens the overall picture a little is the weak results of autonomy, but we do not attribute this fact to disadvantages.

The Aspire 7 lineup has many configurations. We'll take a close look at the most affordable 15-inch and mention three others, including the 17-inch.

- at price category "Within 60 thousand" this laptop has not so many competitors.

The main feature, of course, is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 graphics card with 2GB of memory. This is the initial model of the GTX 10 series on graphics core GP107 with 640 CUDA stream processors, but it has enough resources to play Battlefield 1, For Honor and GTA V on ultra-high graphics settings in Full HD resolution and work with programs such as 3ds Max and ArchiCAD. At the same time, the graphical settings of some of the most modern games with this card will have to be lowered to get consistently smooth gameplay.

It uses an Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor, a 4-core 14nm chipset clocked at 2.5GHz. The HQ index means that, unlike U-chipsets with low power consumption, this model designed to solve complex problems.

The amount of RAM is 8 GB. By today's standards, this is the standard, but if necessary, it can be increased to 32 GB. A 1 TB hard drive is selected as the drive.

Acer's Aspire line has always been a workhorse. Today we will get acquainted with an updated representative of this line with index 7, where, according to lineup, includes performance solutions for maximum productivity. In the review, we will tell you about what the update is, what the user has to offer and how the Aspire 7 is in everyday use.

Appearance

The design of the Aspire 7 has no problem with Acer's signature features. Updating the line, the company decided not to change the cardinally recognizable and, in general, not bad appearance... The silver insert covering the hinge of the display unit, the characteristic pattern of the top cover and the work surface - these little things give the impression of an expensive business-class product.

The main body materials are metal and plastic. The upper part of the display unit and the palm surface are made of aluminum. The rest of the body is made of plastic, which is quite durable and of high quality. Despite the lack of glossy details in the design, metal surfaces are excellent at collecting fingerprints. Another disadvantage of the Aspire 7's appearance is the traditionally large number of different stickers that do not adorn the laptop.

In terms of weight and size, the Acer Aspire 7 is a classic 15.6-inch laptop. The designers tried to make it as visually compact as possible for a medium format device, and they did it. However, everything changes when you take a laptop in hand or put it in a bag: the weight of 2.4 kg makes itself felt, and the thickness of 24 mm no longer seems small. If the device will be used mainly on site, this will not cause problems. But as a portable solution, the Aspire 7 is not the best option.

Ergonomics, connectors

Let's start right away with the pros - the laptop can be opened with one hand, which is a rarity. In this case, the hinge solidly fixes the display unit and it does not stagger from accidental touches.

The laptop is equipped with a keyboard with a numeric keypad, which has the typical drawbacks of many other models - a heap of navigation keys and the location of the power button in the total mass of keys. As for the rest, it is quite convenient to type on the keyboard, it uses the classic scissor key mechanism. The keyboard is equipped with backlighting, the brightness of which, however, cannot be adjusted, you can either turn it on or off.

The touchpad is ordinary, there is not much to praise it for, however, as well as to scold. Its dimensions are medium and it is offset to the left of the center of the case.

Now let's talk about the interface connectors. Let's start with the left side panel, which houses the Kensington lock, gigabit Ethernet, USB Type-C, HDMI, one USB 3.0 and an SD card reader. On the right side, there is a group consisting of a port for a charger, a power indicator, a pair of USB 2.0 and a 3.5 mm mini-jack.

Display

The Acer Aspire 7 in our configuration features a 15.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Considering the price category, the display can be called good, but no more. Of course, as befits an IPS matrix, there are maximum viewing angles and more saturated colors compared to TN matrices.

The display shows a warm picture, both visually and measured. The gamma is quite noticeable in the direction of yellow, red and green shades. The color temperature does not reach the reference 6500K and is almost 6000K. The measured maximum brightness level was 208 cd / m2, which is enough for indoor use, but this level is often not enough outdoors. The contrast ratio was 1: 475. The display is not bad, but not suitable for color correction, but just right for browsing, watching movies and games.

Equipment

We tested a model with the index A715-71G-513Z, which is configured with an Intel Core i5-7300HQ processor based on the Kaby Lake microarchitecture, with a maximum frequency of 3.5 GHz in Turbo Boost mode. The processor is equipped with 4 processing cores, the nominal frequency is 2.5 GHz. The test version is also equipped with 8GB DDR4 RAM and a GTX 1050 graphics adapter with 2GB VRAM. The manufacturer has provided for the possibility of replacing the drive and RAM by the user. These components are each in its own compartment, and to access them, it is enough to unscrew one screw at a time.

Unfortunately, our configuration is equipped with a hard drive and not solid state driveso the overall responsiveness of the system is not as good as we would like. But versions with SSD will be available on sale, so we recommend paying attention to them.

If we abstract from the low speed of the HDD, then the rest of the laptop is very comfortable to use, especially in tasks where the speed of the processor is important. The GTX 1050 graphics adapter is slightly inferior in performance to the version with the Ti prefix, but without any problems it allows you to play modern games at native resolution, however, at medium graphics quality settings and without anti-aliasing. Still, 2 GB of video memory is not enough by modern standards.

The multimedia capabilities are presented by a pair of speakers, their quality is not bad, but not outstanding. The webcam shoots at a maximum resolution of 720p, its quality is average, and it copes with its tasks. As for the operation of the wireless interfaces, there were no problems during use.

Cooling system

In browsing mode and working with documents, the laptop is almost inaudible, the temperature of the components is at 45 degrees. In games, the noise becomes noticeable, but not annoying and resembles the rustle of the wind. The temperature of the video adapter under load in games is 65 degrees, the temperature of the processor is about 80 degrees. Stress testing warmed up cPU up to 90 degrees, but to the credit of the cooling system, throttling was not noticed. Cold air intake is from the bottom, exhaust - from the rear. During maximum load, the keyboard and the palm rest are not very hot.

Autonomy

The Acer Aspire 7 is equipped with a 3220 mAh non-removable battery, which is relatively small considering the size of the case. At the same time, in the mode of working with documents and surfing at 50% screen brightness, the laptop honestly worked for 4.5 hours on a single charge. When the screen brightness is raised to the maximum, about 3 hours is the figure that you should count on.

Site evaluation

Pros: appearance, display, performance, available connectors

Minuses: easily soiled body, weight and dimensions, autonomy

Output: The Aspire 7 is a good candidate for purchase in use if you want a reliable, well-built and well-equipped laptop, especially if portability isn't paramount. The laptop looks stylish, has a decent display and offers its users a good level of performance. You can complain about the presence hard disk in our configuration, however, as practice shows, not everyone is important quick start computer or applications. However, a variety of configurations will be available to choose from, so choosing a model for your budget and needs will not be a problem.
