Sony Ericsson G900 Owner Reviews

Best positive feedback

Advantages

great smartphone !!! all the necessary functions !!! the camera is great especially on the street during the day !! great camera function as panorama !! wi-fi, 3g, sensor! very loud (you can clearly hear the volume even in the subway car !!) 8gb memory, 128 mb RAM !! great design !!! very easy to navigate !!

disadvantages

do not have them !! but it slows down with standard firmware !! update it using the utility on the disk !! and there will not be any lags even with the camera !!

Commentary

2 days got used to it! and who does not like him needs to be selected normally and for himself !! and not write later in the estimates that the model is terrible!

Best negative review

Experience of use: several months

Advantages

all you need + wifi in a small building.

disadvantages

1.No sound profiles !!! Phones 10 years ago had, but here they don't. those. if you need, for example, to turn off the bell for the night, then go into the menu and turn down the volume with the knobs. In silent mode, the alarm clock will only vibrate, while if it is charging, then it will not vibrate either. 2. BUGGLES! The first batch was defective on the display (the backlight goes out and hangs tightly) is solved by replacing the display or adding a gasket to keep the contact better. In the service (Lantea, so that it was wrong) they said the type of contacts on the interface connector are oxidized, so the water got in and removed from the guarantee, while they themselves admitted that they knew about the glitch with the display and repaired it more than once! PI:? * ;? "! 3. 2 stylus broke, and not only me. 4. Over time, the speaker began to junk (at maximum volume, nothing is heard) 5. BRAKES! How long does it take to open the incoming SMS, and navigation through phone book is generally the speed of sound ... 6. The camera on the k750i was better

Commentary

I have been using this miracle for almost a year. Before that, there was the K750i. Heaven and earth, after the k750 I thought that I would never buy myself something other than SE, after the G900 I think that this was my last SE phone. Recently I read that their sales are falling, I felt sad for their favorite company, now not at all ... The road to them is the same as Motorola ... Although it's still a pity SE were among the first to offer good functionality for a reasonable price ... p.s. do not hand over your phone to Lantei service. I gave the phone the screen worked, got it inoperative ... Also, the guarantee was denied in water, it was never, all the indicators are white ... And the breakdowns with what they wrote are not connected ... I'll have to sue ...

The G900 is a candy-bar with rounded edges and a fairly large TFT touchscreen. The body of the device is made of two types of dark plastic. Around the screen and the upper part of the back surface (near the camera) - soiled glossy. Everything else is matte soft-touch plastic. The entire side surface is edged with ribbed metal (with holes made where necessary for buttons and connectors). Thanks to the metal edging, the case looks reliable, and the ribbed surface is very comfortable to hold the device, and it does not slip out of your fingers. The dimensions of the case (106x49x13 mm) are standard for most mobile devices and are clearly smaller than most smartphones - this is a clear plus of the device. Weight also does not burden the pocket - only 99 g.

The touch screen, as we have already said, is made using TFT technology (2.4 ") with a resolution of 240x320 (QVGA) and 262K colors (262144). The screen is bright enough and if you look at it directly, you can see everything quite well even in bright sunlight, although the picture itself “fades”. But its viewing angles are small - "standard" 150 degrees on both planes. There is a thin speaker slot above the screen. To the left is a small camera for video calls.

Under the screen there is a navigation block with control keys and a standard for mobile phones numeric keypad. There are no experiments with the placement of characters on the keyboard, which were present in the P-series, no. Here we get rather large keys with actions that are standard for the vast majority of Sony Ericsson models (and for most mobile devices in general). It is not only possible to use them blindly, but also quite convenient due to some inclination of each key from the bottom edge to the center - it is easier to touch it.

The control unit located under the screen in the center contains a 4-position joystick made in the form of a stylish metal ring, which is also very convenient to find blindly. In the center of the ring is a confirmation button. Despite the fact that finding the control keys is not a problem, their use is far from the top of perfection - false positives are frequent, although this is most likely a matter of skill and experience.

Immediately below the screen, the control unit is framed by two soft keys, which display the most frequently required (according to the manufacturer) actions - on the left, an application call for working with notes, on the right - with messages. Below them there are two more buttons with more traditional actions for a Sony Ericsson phone - on the left "back" and "C" (cancel).

The keyboard backlight is good and looks very good in the dark. The manufacturer has even provided three luminous dots under the screen itself - in order to additionally mark in this way the fact of the possibility of using the finger selection of actions available on the screen (at its bottom) at a given time. The only thing that is embarrassing is the streak of light breaking through the gap between the bottom of the screen and the body of the device.

Taking a look at the smartphone on the left, we find a stylus slot on top. The stylus itself is telescopic, its length is clearly less than average, but you can use it without much discomfort. But the stylus holder can be claimed for being too flimsy - the stylus is easily removed from it, almost without resistance, which can eventually lead to its loss.

Below, at the keyboard level, there is a Fast Port connector, traditional for Sony Ericsson, for connecting a charger, headset or a cable for connecting to a PC via USB. Almost next to the interface connector there is a device status indicator, which starts blinking red when the battery is insufficiently charged or turns green when it is charging. At the very bottom there is a metal ring for attaching a lace.

The right edge of the device gives us access to the volume rocker on top, the key for locking the keyboard, which is located almost in the center and the key for calling photo / video shooting.

The top of the device is equipped with a power on / off button, which is located on the right almost at the edge and recessed into the metal canvas so that it is difficult to press it.

The bottom of the device is pristine - we won't be able to find any functionally useful things there. Maybe a small microphone slot.

At the top left of the back of the device is a 5-megapixel autofocus camera hidden under a transparent glass, there is no protective shutter. Nearby, closer to the edge - an LED flash. Below the camera block is the battery compartment cover, where you can see the loudspeaker slots, the Sony Ericsson brand logo and a special protrusion from the bottom that allows the phone to lie flat on a flat surface. The camera unit is separated from the battery cover by a thin metal plate, which is easily distinguishable by touch and makes it even more comfortable to hold the device with your fingers.

The cover itself above the battery is rather unusually attached to the body - with latches. If you remove the cover, under it we will find a 950 mAh Li-Pol battery. There is a SIM card compartment next to the battery. Despite the fact that it is located nearby, and not under the battery, the SIM card cannot be changed without taking it out. It seems more interesting to replace the memory card (Memory Stick Micro - M2), which is possible without removing the battery, but nevertheless, the memory card slot is hidden under the cover. Such an arrangement of the memory card slot on one side protects it well from dirt and dust, but on the other hand it requires removing this cover every time to work with a memory card, which can be inconvenient with frequent operations with it.

In general, the assembly of the case is of high quality - nothing creaks or looseness anywhere. The different body parts fit together very well. And the metal edging, as already mentioned, gives the case a very good stiffening rib and significantly increases reliability.

There is one more detail that immediately catches your eye when you start using the G900 - the absence of a Jog-Dial - a roller-wheel, which was always present in previous versions smartphones from Sony Ericsson. The reasons why the developer abandoned this navigation solution are not entirely clear; nevertheless, its absence practically does not interfere with the use of the device, and this fact does not cause any discomfort.

SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: User interface

Because G900 is a smartphone based on the Symbian operating system (to be precise, this model is based on Symbian OS 9.1), it is not surprising that the quality user interface the user interface UIQ is used. This model introduces UIQ version 3.2.

Most of the interface features of the UIQ 3.x platform are already known - it is functionally similar to other smartphones from Sony Ericsson. We will focus on the differences and additional features that the G900 model provides us with.

First of all, the eye catches its own stylish design theme with a predominance of dark shades of green, blue and red. In this combination, the interface looks pleasant and all its details are quite well discernible even in bright light. The funny thing is that the color style somewhat resembles one of the themes used in the Nokia N95 smartphone - is it a coincidence or a repetition of a successful solution from a competitor? It is difficult to judge unambiguously.

As with all UIQ smartphones, the device will refuse to fully launch without a SIM card. Those. you won't be able to use full fly-mode. By the way, if a SIM card is installed, then in the choice of profiles you can always turn off the GSM / UMTS unit, thereby obtaining the desired fly-mode. It's strange that Sony Ericsson reproduces this feature from time to time in its models.

The main screen, traditionally for UIQ, is replete with all sorts of information and opportunities to get it. The upper system bar, available in almost all operating modes of the device, consists of shortcut icons, signal strength indicator, Wi-Fi module activity, Bluetooth, various notifications, battery level indicator and task manager.

The central part of the screen traditionally contains a variety of information about current events, calls, messages, etc. - the so-called "Today" section. Let me remind you that some of the blocks from "Today" can be deployable. And in a collapsed form, they represent only a heading and a sign that it can be expanded.

Below "Today" we see the current time and date. Under the time and date line, 5 buttons are visible to call various actions that, according to the smartphone developer, are most often demanded by the user. They are large and it is quite convenient to get into them with your finger. This is where we can find the first difference from previous models smartphones with UIQ. The fact is that the extreme buttons do not seem to fit completely on the screen, and therefore intuitively there is a desire to move or "scroll" them from the edge. Having tried to do this, we will see a pleasant result - the list with the button will move one in the direction in which we pressed the screen. The shift is infinite, so you can scroll as much as you need.

Note that pressing the joystick "up" will bring up the main menu, and "down" - the list of contacts. Instead of the "up arrow" option available in previous models, there is a separate "Quick Access" key here, by clicking on which we get a 3x3 window, where we can add 9 frequently used applications.

The "Favorite contacts" section allows you to create a list of contacts we need for a quick call later.

The calendar icon allows you to quickly add an entry to it - for example, a new appointment.

Icon with envelope - work with messages. In particular, you can quickly create a new one.

The second surprise awaits us when you click on "Advanced". In addition to the already familiar options, we will find the "Additional Panels" section, which will allow, if necessary, connect 7 more sections to the list of actions at the bottom of the screen. In particular, we can include panels: Alarm, Music, Bookmarks, RSS, World Clock, Tasks and Photos.

Most of the actions are clear from the names:

  • Signal - set and set the alarm
  • Music - easy control of the built-in player
  • Bookmarks - Internet bookmarks
  • RSS - RSS feed reader
  • World clock - convenient view of time for different regions of our planet
  • Tasks - task management
  • Photos - quick and easy viewing of images located on your smartphone
  • In addition to the main screen, we will often come across the main menu of the G900 smartphone. Traditionally for UIQ, all possible actions are divided into 9 sections - when the Russian language is on, they are called like this: Organizer, Internet, Entertainment, Camera, Messages, Median, Calls, Contacts, Settings.

Most of the actions are already well described in reviews of both the UIQ platform itself and previous smartphones from Sony Ericsson. We will try to draw your attention to what is interesting or useful in the menu of this particular model.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Overview :: Contacts

Traditionally for Symbian in general and UIQ in particular, working with contacts is implemented in the highest level... You can create an unlimited number of contacts, inside each of which you can place all the necessary information about him. All the possibilities for working with contacts on the UIQ platform have already been described more than once, so we will give several screenshots and note some of the conveniences provided by the G900 model.

In particular, I was pleased with the adapted image editor, which allows you to "fit" the desired image to attach it to the currently edited contact. When recording a birthday, the smartphone will ask you whether to create a calendar entry with a reminder of this event - a feature that is so lacking, for example, in smartphones from Nokia. You can also place all information that does not fit into the standard sections in a note to a contact. You can assign a voice command and an individual melody to each contact.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Calls

It contains all the information about what calls were made using your smartphone. Everything is grouped into four tabs: all, outgoing, incoming and not received. The capabilities are fully consistent with previous implementations of the UIQ platform.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Messages

The "Messages" section contains a set of options traditional for UIQ for working with various kinds of messages. This includes the ability to create and manipulate sMS messages, MMS and unlimited mailboxes your e-mail.

I would like to note that, as in previous smartphones from Sony Ericsson, when writing messages, both input from the virtual keyboard and handwritten are supported, including convenient switching between input modes and using T9. However, for the Cyrillic alphabet we still recommend using the virtual keyboard, because Cyrillic recognition is not supported. But if you are used to writing SMS in Latin, then the easiest way is to use handwriting input - it works perfectly.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Organizer

Here we have the following options:

The file manager is a traditional UIQ file manager with the ability to preview images.

    Calendar is a handy calendar.

Time and Alarm - World Clock and Alarm Clocks.

Notes - in addition to text, allow you to create handwritten notes and attach voice tags to them.

Shortcuts - Shortcuts settings manager for keys 2 to 9.

Exchange ActiveSync - support for working with MS Exchange Server. Synchronization of mail (with attachments), contacts, calendar, notes and tasks is supported.

Remote Sync - Allows you to synchronize contacts, mail, bookmarks and notes with a remote Sync server.

    Converter - converter.

Stopwatch with the ability to set cutoffs in the process of counting the time

    Calculator - a simple calculator

Flashlight - the ability to control how the built-in flash shines

Quick Office - Standard Quick Office

PDF + is a great application that allows you to open and view a wide variety of PDF files, even very large ones. The screenshots show what a test PDF looks like on a PC and how this reader opens it. Supports bookmarks, search, displaying pictures, setting the scale and much more.

Business card scanner - this application appeared in this smartphone due to the presence in it of a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and macro mode, capable of taking pictures acceptable for recognition. The application works very well, although it does not understand the Cyrillic alphabet. But all the data that can somehow be recognized, it processes with a bang. Moreover, you can forcefully specify the language of the recognized business card. In particular, by explicitly specifying English, I increased the recognition to almost 100%.

Connection Manager - Allows you to monitor and manage all connections (including Internet accounts) that the G900 has.

I will draw your attention to additional features the main menu - they are accessible from almost anywhere on the button "Advanced". You can always view information about the smartphone, switch the display mode of the contents of the current section (list or icons).

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Internet

The built-in WEB-browser (Opera 8.65) does a good job with various pages, formatting them for easy viewing on a small screen.

Bookmarks, multi-window, RSS reading and more are supported. In general, this version of the browser differs little from similar ones in previous models.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Entertainment

The section accumulates the following functions:

PlayNow and TrakID are proprietary options from Sony Ericsson that are present in almost all modern models. We have written about them more than once, in any review of a SonyEricsson phone you can find their description.

FM radio - controls the built-in radio.

Videophone - thanks to the G900's 3G support and front camera, we can (in our country - potentially) make video calls. This application makes this process simple and intuitive.

RSS News - RSS feed reader.

Access to the SIM menu, if available.

MusicDJ is a proprietary Sony Ericsson utility for composing your own compositions, just like PlayNow and TrakID are present in almost all modern models.

    Sound recording - dictaphone.

Sudoku - game of the same name (on the JAVA platform)

    AutoCam - camera control.

This section also contains shortcuts to the installed additional software.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Media

This section contains all the actions that you can perform with the multimedia content of your device. Once inside, you traditionally find yourself in a stylish animated environment, in which 4 main sections are available for work: Photo, Music, Video and Options.

Inside the Photos section, we will find all the images that are present in our smartphone, grouped according to some criteria. In particular, we are offered for viewing: Latest photos - images grouped by shooting dates for quick viewing. Camera album - all photos taken with the built-in camera. Photo tags - the ability to work with the tags of your photos Favorites - the ability to place and delete an image in your favorites. Images - View all images on your smartphone. You can perform various actions with any photo - for example, send by mail or MMS, set as a background image, etc.

The Sony Ericsson Walkman Style Music section provides a variety of options for grouping, searching and listening to your music. First of all, the current playlist is available to us. Below are various groupings (by artist, album, title, playlist, etc.). You can also start and listen to podcasts that interest you. This section provides convenient tools for convenient management of all your music production, which are not much different from the solutions implemented in recent models from Sony Ericsson.

The "Videos" section, as the name implies, allows you to manage and view your video. The video player is stylish, convenient and simple - it perfectly realizes the task set for it and at the same time is absolutely clear to use. While watching a video, double-clicking in the center of the screen, you can expand the view to full screen, which is often convenient. You can select the scale for viewing the video.

Parameters and functions common for all sections are taken out in "Settings". For example, you can specify your preferred encoding when working with text content in multimedia content, screen orientation, and so on.

This section of the menu is similar to the Camera, almost all actions are convenient to perform with your fingers - the controls are specially prepared for this. So you will have to take out the stylus much less often.

    SonyEricsson G900 :: Overview :: Settings

The "Settings" contains everything that is somehow connected with the settings and parameters of the device. This is a huge number of actions, which are divided into the following sections:

Sounds and signals - contains settings for the sound behavior of the smartphone.

  • MIDlet accounts - data transfer parameters for JAVA applications.
  • VPN accounts - VPN data transfer options.
  • SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Camera

The main camera of this model is decent. 5-megapixel resolution. There is autofocus and macro mode. Unfortunately, the flash is LED, and therefore one cannot count on serious illumination in the dark. When you select this section, the application for photo / video shooting is launched, which can also be launched by pressing the corresponding key on the body of the device.

The interface for controlling the camera is simple, straightforward, and most importantly, it is convenient for using your fingers. Most of the options are easy to select and activate with your fingers. For both modes ("photo", "video"), the setting interface is generally the same type. The screen acts as a viewfinder. The main icons of the shooting modes are displayed at the bottom left. On the right, there are icons showing the current and the ability to switch to other modes of operation (photo, video, gallery). Top right - the icon for returning to the menu. Top left - the estimated number of possible pieces of photos or minutes of video. In the lower right corner there is a settings icon that changes its behavior (and appearance) twice. First, when we click on it, we get to the section quick settings - on the left of the screen, the main sections on setting up shooting modes are displayed. In this case, the icon itself changes its appearance and when you click on it again, we get to the menu of system settings for photo or video shooting.

A little more detail on each mode:

    Photo mode:

When you click for the first time on the settings menu, on the left we get 4 main sections:

  • Upper - "Scene program", where you can select the type of shooting: auto, portrait, portrait, twilight, sports, shooting documents (for example, for subsequent recognition).
  • Below - "Shooting mode": normal, panorama, multi-shooting (series).
  • Below is the flash control.
  • Below - "Focus": autofocus, focus on the area on the screen (selectable by touch), macro and infinity.
  • When you click on the setting again, we get to the photography settings menu.

    Available to us:

  • Setting the quality of the resulting image: 5MP, 3MP, 1MP, VGA.
  • White balance options: auto, artificial lighting, lumin. lighting, daylight, cloudy.
  • Self-timer control.
  • You can apply one of the common effects (turn off use, negate, solarize, sepia, bw).
  • You can set the image quality: high, standard, economy (see examples of videos shot for each of the available quality options, everything was shot in 5MP mode).
  • Turn on auto review of the photo immediately after shooting.
  • Choose a location for saving photos: smartphone memory, memory card and "prefer saving to a card" (useful when there is no more space on it, and you continue to shoot - saving will go to the smartphone's memory).
  • You can select the shutter sound when shooting.
  • Video mode

When you click for the first time on the settings menu, on the left we get 4 main sections:

  • Upper - "Shooting program", where you can select the type of shooting: auto or night.
  • Below - "Shooting mode": normal or for MMS. (see sample videos shot for each of the available modes).
  • Below is the flash control.
  • Below - "White balance": auto, cloudy, bright, artificial lighting, fluorescent. lighting.
  • When you click on the setting again, we get to the photography settings menu:

  • Self-timer control.
  • Choose one of the effects (similar to the photo).
  • Turn the microphone on or off.
  • Turn on the image stabilizer.
  • Enable autoplay video immediately after shooting.
  • Select where to save photos (similar to photo mode).
  • You can reset all settings to factory settings.
  • As we noted above, all settings can be easily operated with your fingers - the sizes of the control elements are specially adapted for this feature. The main camera is very convenient to use.

The front camera is only for making video calls, so in everyday life its use is difficult. Its resolution is VGA.

An example of changing the image quality

SonyEricsson G900 :: Review :: Impressions and conclusions

This time Sony Ericsson has managed to create a versatile smartphone. The outwardly easy-to-use design will appeal to most potential users. An important role will be played in a positive assessment, we are sure, the presence of a normal numeric keypad and the lack of experiments in ergonomics and control capabilities of the device. The presence of the touchscreen is perceived as an additional and very useful bonus, although the need for using a stylus is minimized thanks to the interface adapted for finger control.

The G900 will also be interesting for the business segment, thanks to its conservative external data and rich (for performing work tasks) software content, and for music lovers, who prioritize the multimedia capabilities of the device. It will also appeal to people who appreciate the possibilities of wireless access to the network and the use of various online services. And thanks to the UIQ platform, you can always expand the functionality of a smartphone by installing a variety of software, of which a lot has accumulated at the moment.

We present, as promised, a review of the Sony Ericsson G900 smartphone, which was tested directly in operation immediately after its presentation to the public at the World Mobile Phones Congress 2008.
Sony Ericsson has presented a number of interesting new products. After a recent review of Sony Ericsson G700, we intend to take a closer look at new model - smartphone UIQ G900.

Externally, the G900 is identical to the previous G700, with a 2.4-inch TFT screen displaying over 262K colors with QVGA-resolution. However, the G900 outperforms its predecessor as it features Wi-Fi and a 5MP autofocus camera, making it one of the most high-tech devices in its class.

The G900, as well as the G700, supports UMTS system and stereo Bluetooh function, allowing its owner to use the video call function. The smartphone also supports M2 memory cards.
The Notes section includes the function of creating electronic notes that look like yellow sticky notes located on the display (they can also be of other colors).

Sony Ericsson G900 won us over not only with its functionality, but also with its very attractive external design. Therefore, we could not resist and took several pictures with its help, the quality level of which was quite high.

The dimensions of the Sony Ericsson G900 are 106 x 49 x 13 mm, and the weight is only 99 g, which fully corresponds to the G700. Sony Ericsson managed to combine the compactness of the previous model in the new model, adding a lot of functions to it, which is good news.

    Design and construction

The Sony Ericsson G900 smartphone is powered by a 208 MHz processor, which is also used in other UIQ smartphones from the company. The presence of 128 MB of memory reminds of the smartphones Sony Ericsson W950, W960 and P1. The user interface is very fast, and disabling transition effects makes it faster.
The responsiveness of the user interface is enhanced by the lack of carry effects.

The display of the G900 is inferior in size to the W960, but nevertheless corresponds to its purpose and price range. Directly above the display is only a VGA video camera and speaker.

We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that the G900, like the G700, has a transflective display, which achieves stunning image clarity even in direct sunlight. According to this indicator, the G900 outperforms other Sony Ericsson smartphones. However, the level of color reproduction and contrast lag behind other modern models of Sony Ericsson mobile phones. However, in terms of image clarity in direct sunlight, this smartphone is almost on par with such well-known models as Nokia and Apple iPhone.

The keyboard on the G900 is attractive, although not as comfortable as on the G700. Alphanumeric keys are enough big size... The navigation D-pad and adjacent touch keys also have good performance characteristics.

Continuing the talk about the touch keys, it should be mentioned that the G700 model has two contextual keys immediately below the display, so that you can operate your smartphone with one hand and without a stylus. They are no longer in the G900, moreover, their functions were not assigned to other keys, and therefore the G900 simply lost two function keys. For fun, we can assume that this is how the manufacturer managed to reduce the weight of the phone. There are only virtual keys on the display.

The side panels of the Sony Ericsson G900 smartphone have undergone functional changes compared to the style of UIQ-smartphones used until now. For example, the missing scroll wheel is a favorite feature of all UIQ fans. But even in these conditions, the process of controlling a smartphone with just one hand remains quite simple.
The smartphone is also equipped with a dedicated keyboard lock key, while the traditional method of locking with a key combination has been retained. Thus, the protect key is one of the options.
In terms of shortcomings, the construction of the camera key should be noted. Excessive depth of its location and lack of tactile feedback makes it almost meaningless to use.

Next to the charging slot on the left side is a miniature LED indicator, much like the one on the G700. It blinks when there are missed calls or unread messages, switching to continuous light when the battery is discharged or charged.
Unlike the Sony Ericsson G700, in which the M2 memory card has a convenient rubber cap and is easy to get out, the G900 card slot, although located in the same place, is covered with a battery cover. Even with a sharp object such as a stylus, it is almost impossible to remove or insert an overly recessed memory card.

The stylus fits into a special recess in the left upper corner smartphone. It is almost the same as in the G700 - not telescopic and, as it turned out, is a bit short.

The back cover is not easy to remove, as you need to use some kind of sharp object, just like in earlier Sony Ericsson models and the G700.

The G900 has standard battery Sony Ericsson BST-33 Li-Po with a capacity of 960 mAh. The smartphone can work up to 380 hours of standby time and up to 12 hours of talk time. Such data are quite optimistic for a small-capacity battery, but in reality we have not yet been convinced of this.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Sony Ericsson G900 in terms of ergonomics and usability almost matches the G700. The manufacturer deliberately kept the conservative trendy design of the smartphone in order to match its predecessor. In general, we positively evaluate both the dimensions of the smartphone and its design parameters and usability.

    Improved UIQ user interface

Sony Ericsson has taken a big step towards optimizing the UIQ interface. Some controls have gotten bigger, especially multimedia. A large selection of user-definable keyboard shortcuts are available to facilitate daily tasks. Application programs Notes have also been improved, and now you can replace greetings, making it easier to keep track of your schedule. The new Task Manager also makes it easier to manage and distribute executable programs.

We are not going to talk about the smartphone UIQ interface now. Everything else is the same in all the latest models of Sony Ericsson phones, and if you are interested in familiarizing yourself with them, please see the review of the Sony Ericsson W960 phone - everything, except for the player, is preserved in the G900.

Sony Ericsson G700 has been reviewed earlier, so if you've read it, you will likely find the same programs. The only difference is in relation to the camera, which should be noted.

In G900, some interface additions, as you may have noticed, do not have significant changes, but their presence is still better than absence.

Perhaps from our review of the G700, you have already realized that one of the important changes is the desktop plugin. Thanks to him, the user will be able to quick access and, by the way, you can flip horizontally. This model greatly simplify your life and save a lot of time. Thanks to the capabilities of your smartphone, it will be easier for you to carry out repetitive operations, such as calling home, sending messages, and so on. You can add more plugins if you want. Of course, the traditional Business plugin is also available.

In addition, improvements have been made to the Notes Application and is now installed as an important organizer application. There are even dedicated keyboard shortcuts on the keypad.

User-generated notes are like stickers that some of us like to stick on a table or refrigerator. They can combine pictures, written or printed text, and you can also change their color for quick sorting.

The options are not limited to this - now you can add alerts to your notes, send them via MMS or Bluetooth, upload them to your blog or archive them in separate folders (such as "Business", "Personal" or "Urgent"). Here, however, the possibilities are reduced, since you cannot use different colors for pictures, as it was in previous versions of UIQ smartphones. Many people might like these improvements, although it's worth noting that not all users need separate Notes access keys on their keyboard.

The task manager in the UIQ interface has also been changed. Previously, opening it, you could see a list of recently opened applications, and the list of current applications was hidden in the second tab. Now the tab with the latest applications has disappeared, and the list of current applications is displayed on the screen, which is really convenient.

    Do more with multimedia

Sony Ericsson G900 is equipped with the Media Center, which we have already seen in latest phones Sony Ericsson. It allows you to access your photos, music and videos with the click of a button. You can sort music using filters such as year, genre, albums, tracks, playlists, podcasts, etc. If you want to find a specific song, but you know only part of the name, you just have to type it and the phone will automatically find it and will display.

Media Center also supports changing the screen orientation. The advantage of the Sony Ericsson G700, like the G900, is the MegaBass equalizer, so even fans of the players will be satisfied.

The video player has many elements, so you can now operate your finger without any problems.

Both Sony Ericsson G700 and G900 models have a built-in stereo FM radio tuner with RDS support and Sony Ericsson TrackID music recognition service. You will need to plug in your headphones to turn on the radio as they serve as an antenna.

Image viewing is the same as for Sony Ericsson W890. Photo Gallery of Media Center is very convenient for managing a large collection of photos with unlimited customization possibilities. Photo tags allow you to tag images, thus making filtering easier.

The slideshow function becomes available as soon as you open any photo in full screen. Before you start, you are asked to select a ringtone and the phone plays a dynamic slideshow with the background music you have selected.

    Touch focus

As we know from previous models, the camera's UIQ interface was not user-friendly enough. However, the Sony Ericsson G900 is equipped with a completely new camera, which is much better than the previous ones, it has many useful tips and, which is very important, it is much more convenient to work with.

The Sony Ericsson G700 camera has 3 megapixels, but it lacks autofocus and some additional parameters. The G900 is different, it includes all the Cyber-shot features.

Sony Ericsson G900 has digital image stabilization, full shooting mode, panorama and multi-shot shooting mode. What's more, there is a touch focus program that allows you to frame pictures.
Unfortunately, the camera of our pilot model G900 is not yet fully developed, as well as in the model G700. Usually, this is the last thing that gets done properly before the phone goes on sale. This is why we only offer a few samples that have been scaled down.

Since we are interested in touch focusing, we eagerly started testing. It turned out to be working well, but we discovered a lot of marketing gimmicks. The same effect can be achieved with the old focus and center technique. The technique involves focusing on a dead point (stationary) on the subject, and then holding the shutter key halfway down, you simply center the subject for a highly artistic, off-center view.

In the samples, touch focus works as advertised.

Video recording in the G900 is not improved, the maximum number of frames per second is 30 at QVGA resolution, which is acceptable.

The model has Wi-Fi and an excellent web browser

The Sony Ericsson G900 has one fundamental advantage over the G700 - it supports Wi-Fi. The G900 has become one of the best web phones of its kind thanks to its good web browser and UMTS support. Of course, it would be better if it supported HSDPA, but obviously keeping the price low was preferable in both models.

The G900 has a fast web browser and good configuration options to make mobile web browsing a real pleasure. You can move the current page by moving your finger, but it will be faster with the D-keyboard. With the D-keyboard, the browser offers fast swiping and horizontal scrolling speed. You can even use full screen or tabbed web browsing. It is also possible to zoom in and search for text.

Unfortunately, full screen mode not as complete as that of the G700, but this is most likely an error of the pilot model - let's behave tactfully towards it.

    Let's sum up

The Sony Ericsson G900 is not as highly rated in terms of ergonomics as the G700. The placement of the memory card slot and the absence of two contextual keys adds to the G700's glasses. However, the G900 has one-handed operation and almost no need for a stylus.

The Sony Ericsson G900 borrows the best from the Walkman and Cyber-shot (except for the xenon flash and the tilt sensor), and puts Wi-Fi and touch screen... Excellent build quality and apparently low price (EUR 300) compared to sony phone Ericsson W960. Undoubtedly, this will act as "bait" on buyers.

    What did not like

Not very convenient menu, very absent useful function - profiles. The keypad lock button is in an inconvenient place - it is pressed when you take the device out of the case. The sound of the spoken loudspeaker is not sufficient, it is not very well heard on the street.

    What we liked

Nice design, light. An interesting idea is a separate keyboard lock button. Bright, crisp screen, very good sound external speaker.

    What did not like

    What we liked

good phone, great speaker, wi-fi, comfortable keyboard, multifunctional

    What did not like

at first everything was fine with him, then he turned off and did not turn on again, they made the firmware, and not cheap, worked fine for a year and started to blunt again, the screen darkens, the brightness disappears, turns off itself, etc., maybe I just have such a fake phone caught, judge for yourself

    What we liked

i liked the camera in the phone, photos on the computer look very clear, cool touch screen, well thought up, sound good, liked the menu design

    What did not like

    creaks back cover, speaker nefontan.
Added later - small debris gets under the display, it is very visible in the sun and it shakes ... damn: (((

    What we liked

The display does not scratch without a film, takes pictures quite well for a phone, the Internet just flies!

    What did not like

build quality is terrible rear panel cracked, the body parts attached to the double-sided (!!!) adhesive tape fell off in front.
but the worst is the build quality of the screen. At first, he went out of order altogether (there was a defective batch), he had to be carried to the SC, where he was completely changed. A year later, the touch screen broke, now it works, but does not work.

    What we liked

big screen, nice appearance, nice operating system

    What did not like

the stylus is small and fragile) I broke it on the very first day) there is a spare in the kit, but I recently lost it))
It takes a long time to load when turned on

    What we liked

convenient shape, common body type, many functions, touch screen, the ability to draw on the screen

    What did not like

the front panel rests on double-sided tape, very quickly began to peel off, dropping this body generally cannot be scattered to smithereens, the camera is weak, I bought it because of 5 mega pixels, I was disappointed, there was still a glitch that the phone's power button did not work, in general I was disappointed in Sony Ericsson, everything is on snot keeps

    What we liked

    sensory

    What did not like

touch buttons (for an amateur) and price (also for an amateur))

    What we liked

ooo, there are many advantages ... here and wi-fi, OC Symbian, 5 megapixels, multimedia player, TrackID, FM radio, handwriting recognition, map support memory Memory Stick Micro (M2), TFT display with support for 262,144 colors ....... everything else is included)

    What did not like

    similar to G700

    What we liked

    trendy, cool

    What did not like

There are much more disadvantages than advantages:
    1.Highly slows down
    2. Terrible software. Three months later, the operating system went off, they re-flashed it, and the next day it went off again.
    3.Speaker at high volume repeats
    4. The camera does not pull at 5m. Photos are blurry
    5. Weak battery. With active use, the charge lasts for 1 hour
    6. Build quality is poor
    7.Low memory
8.Almost all programs downloaded from the net are not suitable

    What we liked

Comfortable, sturdy body, clear touch screen.

    What did not like

there are sooooo many of them ... I don’t remember all of them, I’ll start with the fact that when I bought and started using it, I started the alarm clock in the evening, set it silently and charged out of habit, the alarm clock did not work, I missed calls and was late where it was impossible! lay in the sun for 2 hours and part of the case melted (the top row with buttons for sms joystick notes), both stylus broke in 3 months, the back cover wheezed from the first day ... during a conversation, different buttons are constantly pressed with the cheek, right up to the end lock button), the camera seems to be not 5, but 2, (on SE K790i it is many times better), I am silent about the lack of end and receive buttons, at the end the sound speaker died, the process of opening SMS (and not only) is accompanied by 15 seconds of waiting even with installation of third-party modifications), a terribly meager T9 dictionary ... and a lot more ... the worst model from SE !!!

    What we liked

uIQ3 operating system, a good standard media center, volume buttons, multitasking at a height, you can run about 30 applications at the same time and use all at the same time, but after six months it began to reboot itself whenever you like, once even during a call !, superb sound in headphones, clear and loud , even in the subway did not raise more than half

    What did not like

the camera is not very good, there is no clarity and brightness of colors
