Fly aikew 450 qt. A quick review of the Fly IQ450 Horizon Android smartphone. Appearance and usability

What did not like

HUGE drawback, expensive repair !!!

What we liked

An absolutely normal phone, it keeps charging for 2 days (without overloads), the camera is fine, etc.

What did not like

There is no support from the manufacturer for updating the Android system. This feature was not included in the shell at all, Periodically crashes without apparent reasons, just hangs when entering a standard dialer. On my personal device, this happened when, with auto-rotate on, I tried to turn on its side in dialer mode. For a month of use, it was three or four times. There is only one way out - removing the battery. A rather weak back cover, When I remove it, I worry that it will break, a standard battery with the most careful use of resources (all types of connections are disabled, including GPS) sits down in 30-40 hours. There is no iron responsible for magnetic applications - Compass, protractor, gravity sensor, acceleration, magnetic field, gyroscope, pressure, rotation, no light sensor and thermometer.

What we liked

Relatively low price. Comfortable in the hand, non-slip, bright screen. Support for almost any application. The large screen allows you to comfortably watch any video - including feature films.

What did not like

fast battery consumption despite the fact that it says 400 hours

What we liked

Large, bright, fast, very easy to use

What did not like

For a week of use, I did not notice any shortcomings, except for a quiet speaker but with high-quality sound.

What we liked

I was very pleased with the price, size, excellent camera, HD quality, powerful processor, good firmware, comfortable in my hand, I use a 32 GB flash drive, completely clogged and there are no lags.

What did not like

with GPS, the bullshit does not work, I'm tired of trying to figure it out, the camera sticks out a little, which is not very common when you throw it on the table (but I have it without a case)

What we liked

Big screen, big battery

What did not like

too quickly adjusting the brightness of the screen in automatic mode - in the car / subway the screen may start to flicker

What we liked

everything that is stated works. It is good to use it as an auto navigator - the screen is large, the resolution is 854, as a result the controls are large and convenient to use in the car. Quickly catches satellites, instantly refreshes traffic jams.

What did not like

Bluetooth does not see all phones, it recognizes only its brothers "Chinese" type exploits. I inserted a 32 giga memory card and does not see that it contradicts the instructions.

What we liked

Big crane for a decent price. When I bought it, it was processed, an analogue of samungu, but for a price half as much !!!

What did not like

I did not find any critical ones.

What we liked

Quality + price + efficiency.

What did not like

faint sound

What we liked

Excellent color rendering, good pictures and videos, glass, reliable assembly

What did not like

There is no quick removal of the flash drive, to insert / remove it you need to remove the battery.
-The speaker is not very good, it sounds dull and quiet. On a noisy street, the interlocutor is not always well heard.
-The sound speaker is located behind the bottom and in the "landscape" position you can easily close it with your hand, plus it rings quietly, you can't hear it in a jacket or bag. Only by the vibration it is sometimes clear that someone is calling.
-Oak and short usb cable included. I haven't used the typeface at all, that's why I won't write about it.

What we liked

Undoubtedly the main advantage is the price. For a sane price (about $ 200), you can get quite good hardware - a fast processor, a nice screen on an Ips matrix and 1GB random access memory... I chose between it and explay five, subjectively the fly was made better. Two normal sim cards against microsym + sim and a non-glossy backdrop in favor of flay definitely. The games are going great, so if you like them for example karmageddon as well as me then you will appreciate it. There is also such a moment that the 1GB of RAM in the fly and 512 in the display, which also has a weight if you like "thick" applications such as navigation, instant messengers, etc. + Assembled decently, nothing backlash, no glitches, everything works as it should. However, I had before that fly e110 which I used for several years without any problems.

What did not like

For me, there were no flaws in it!

What we liked

There are a lot of them: screen 5, Android 4.2, 8mx camera, 4 cores supports games such as modern combat 4, n.o.v.a.3 never closed purchased three days ago :)

What did not like

for such a price, some fat pluses

At the end of last year, Fly presented two interesting models. One stood out among the others with an excellent SuperAMOLED screen matrix with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels, and the other with a five-inch diagonal and a fairly low cost. The first, Fly IQ444, did not last long. The reason was probably the lack of active matrices based on organic light-emitting diodes, and the slightly inflated price "put pressure" on users. The second one, Fly IQ450, is still on sale. With the release of the "upgrade" version, its price dropped to 6,500 rubles.

The novelties of Fly Diamond 2 and Horizon 2, although they appeared not so long ago, but from previous models, unfortunately, they differ only in the presence of new Taiwanese chips MediaTek MT6589. Although, as it seems to me, at the moment this is quite enough: IQ444, IQ450 are already quite successful, and in improved versions they have become even faster.

Design, dimensions, controls

The shape of the Fly Diamond body is familiar - rectangular with slightly sloping corners. On the front side, the IQ444 is no different from most Chinese devices. The dimensions for the 4.65-inch diagonal of the screen are rather compact - 135x70x8.6 mm, and the weight is only 134 grams. The thickness, apparently, was measured in the thinnest place, since the camera stands out from above by 3 mm, and from below at the same distance there is a small hump.

DSC05728 - DSC05733

On the front are located: on the right - front-camera, on the left - proximity and lighting sensors. The first responds very quickly, and during the operation of the device, there were no false screen lock disconnections at the time of the call. The second sensor correctly and smoothly adjusts the backlight brightness level. There are no complaints about him either.

The voice loudspeaker, located in the upper center, has a slightly higher than average volume, the interlocutor is heard clearly and legibly, the timbre is very pleasant: mainly low and medium frequencies are heard. At maximum volume, it does not wheeze or rattle.

At the bottom there is a standard 3.5 mm audio-out and a microphone. On the right edge there is a volume rocker key. Almost recessed into the body, not very good at feeling, but generally comfortable. On the left edge there is an on / off button for the device. For left-handers - just right (press with your thumb), and right-handers will have to reach out with their index finger.

Above is a lone microUSB connector. On the back of the body are: a large camera eye, a small LED flash, and a speaker on the bottom of the bump.

To open back panel, it must be pry off by the notch on the upper right end. On the left it is inserted into a special slot SIM1, and into a metal slide on the right - SIM2. A microSD memory card is inserted even to the right (hot-swappable).

Fly Diamond 2 and Meizu MX2

The Fly IQ450 Horizon 2 model has not changed externally either: a rather large body with wide frames and smoothed corners. Dimensions - 147x76x9.7 mm, weight - 168 grams.

A thick plastic frame made to look like chrome-plated metal runs along the edge. The back cover is a soft-touch relief, pleasant to the touch. It does not slip in the hand, and in general it fits perfectly in the palm, despite its impressive size. Everything is fine with the assembly - no squeaks, no backlashes.

Speaker, front camera, two sensors (lighting and proximity) are located on top of the front panel. 3.5 mm and microUSB connectors are on the top, and a microphone is on the bottom. On the right is the power button, on the left is the volume control. The buttons are large, very easy to use. A camera peephole extending a couple of millimeters above the body, a dual LED flash and a speaker are on the back of the device.

To open the back panel, pry it off by the notch on the bottom edge. Center - microSDHC, left - SIM1, right - SIM2.

Displays

The Fly IQ444 Diamond 2 smartphone uses a 4.65-inch display (physical size 58x103 mm). The resolution is 720x1280 pixels, while the density is 315 pixels per inch. The matrix is \u200b\u200bmade using SuperAMOLED technology and displays 16 million color shades. Read a little more details.

Fly IQ Horizon 2 has a screen with a larger diagonal, but a lower resolution: 5 inches and 480x854 pixels. The excellent quality of the IPS-matrix saves the day, and, of course, the low cost of the gadget. The display behaves as usual for such matrices: the color rendering is excellent, but at certain angles it turns yellow and violet.

The sensitivity of the sensor layer on the IQ444 seemed to me a little higher.

Comparison of IQ450 2 and Galaxy Note 2:

Batteries

Fly IQ444 uses a 2100 mAh non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery, while Fly IQ450 uses a removable 2000 mAh battery. The manufacturer claims that the Diamond 2 smartphone will work up to 7 hours of talk time, up to 450 hours in standby mode (about a week), and Horizon 2 up to 6 hours / up to 400 hours.

The use of the new chip had practically no effect on the operating time of the devices. If you use Fly IQ444 2 for about 8-9 hours, the battery will be completely discharged provided: 20-25 minutes of talks a day, 2 hours of constant use of Wi-Fi Internet (Twitter, mail, downloading applications and installing them), about 5 hours mobile internet and hours of listening to music. With the same load, Fly IQ450 2 operates for about 7 hours.

Communication capabilities

The phones operate in 2G (GSM / GPRS / EDGE, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) cellular networks.

In stock Bluetooth version 3.0 (A2DP / DUN / FTP / OPP / SPP) for file and voice transfer. Present wireless connection Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b / g / n. The devices, of course, can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot) or modem. In the settings, this item is listed as "Modem mode". There is Wi-Fi Direct.

USB 2.0 (High-Speed) is used for file transfer and data synchronization.

Memory and memory card

The smartphones have 1 GB of RAM. On average, the IQ450 2 has about 650 MB of free RAM, and the IQ444 2 has 100 MB less.

The Horizon 2 has 4 GB of Flash: 700 MB for applications and 1500 MB for data storage. The Diamond 2 has the same amount of memory, but 1500 MB is allocated for software installation. Both models have microSDHC slots.

Cameras

The devices were equipped with two camera modules: the main one for 8 MP, the front one for 2 MP for the IQ450, 1 MP for the IQ444.

The quality of the cameras is the same and no different from the cameras used in previous generations. Pros: good detail, fast and accurate focusing. Of the minuses: a kind of color rendition (leaving colors in red shades) and a small dynamic range.

The Fly Diamond 2 smartphone can record video in a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (sound - mono), and Fly Horizon 2 - 1280x720 pixels (sound - stereo). It's very strange that Horizon 2 did not implement FullHD. Both gadgets have autofocus and 30 fps.

  • File format: 3GP
  • Video codec: MPEG-4, 21 Mbps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps
  • Channels: 1 channel, 48 kHz

Characteristics of the video file Fly IQ450 2:

  • File format: 3GP
  • Video codec: MPEG-4, 29 Mbps
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps

Performance

The previous generation of devices was based on the MediaTek MT6577 chip - 2 cores at 1.2 GHz. New versions of devices - on MediaTek MT6589 - 4 cores at 1.2 GHz. Previously, PoweVR SGX531 was responsible for the graphics, now - PowerVR SGX 544MP. I will not describe in more detail, since almost all modern gadgets (up to 15,000 rubles) are equipped with MTK6589 chipsets. In short, all toys are available on the IQ450 2 and IQ444 2, but in some you will have to set the schedule to "medium".

Diamond 2 performance benchmarks:

Horizon 2 benchmarks:

Software platform

The IQ444 2 has been updated from version 4.0.4 to version 4.1.2. It is strange that not up to 4.2. But the IQ450 2 has a fresher version - 4.2.1. In the future, the manufacturer is unlikely to support both devices. As I said in other reviews, now it's easier to roll out new smartphone from new systemthan to suffer with the software of old phones.

Multimedia

Music player... A standard music player familiar to everyone from the "bare" Android 4.0. Speaker volume of Fly IQ444 2 is above average. Does not wheeze with increasing load. If the smartphone is placed on a horizontal surface, the speaker hole will not be covered, so the volume will not decrease. The speaker volume of Fly IQ450 2 is slightly higher than on Fly IQ444 2.

FM radio... The receiver operates at frequencies 87.5 - 107.8 MHz. RDS is supported (the "name" of the radio station, song titles, exchange rates, etc. are displayed), the air is recorded in 3gpp format. The headset or headphones act as an antenna.

Video player... There is no separate application in the phones, so the videos will have to be launched through the "Gallery". If the previous devices had the MTK6577 chipset and did not allow playing FullHD video, then in new products (with MTK6589) everything is fine with such videos!

Conclusion

At the moment, the Fly IQ444 Diamond 2 model costs 10,000 rubles, and the Fly IQ450 Horizon 2 - 7,000-8,000 rubles. In the first case, you get a cool screen and a pleasant ergonomic design, in the second - a fresh version of Android, a large screen diagonal and quite adequate cost. Naturally, it is worth highlighting the presence of a fairly nimble MediaTek MT6589 chip with a quad-core processor.

The negative sides of the gadgets: the IQ444 has a built-in battery, while the IQ450 has a large size, 720p video recording and a low screen resolution.

Review of a competent and inexpensive smartphone with a five-inch screen

10.12.2012

Lyrical introduction

I love writing reviews about bad devices. Well, at least about imperfect ones. It's so easy and enjoyable. You take and describe all those rakes on which you walked, carefully savoring every full bump. Pay attention, pay attention to this, try not to faint from this-the-five-tenth. Not scared? Well, then you found your happiness, go to the store to throw out the money.

And what to write about if you are happy with everything? It's so boring and dreary. Directly not to persuade the body to take up writing. You have to take yourself by the crackpot and drag you to the computer by force. And, as a rule, such reviews are written at the very last moment, on the eve of the day when the tested unit leaves you. Often - deep at night.

So today's review will be like this. Boring and nocturnal. A boring review, either about a very small tablet that can make calls, or about a very large smartphone. For me, it's more like a smartphone.

Test "GPS on the windowsill, Wi-Fi". The same, but instead of the mobile Internet - Wi-Fi. 5 hours 15 minutes (10 minutes less than IQ441).

In my opinion, the results of the GPS on the windowsill tests are very good. For such and such screen size.

Refresh 3G test. Once every three seconds for an hour to overload a page weighing 30 kilobytes. Minimum brightness. Minus 17% battery. Too much.

Refresh Wi-Fi test. The same as in the previous test, but instead of mobile internet - Wi-Fi. eleven%. This is already bearable

"Dr. House without interruption" test. Brightness - 50%, sound to headphones - 100%. Xvid video file with 720x400 resolution and 760 MB "weight". First I tested it with the DicePlayer (the phone was all exhausted - it slowed down, but played). 8 hours 15 minutes. A very decent result. Then I repeated the test with the MX Player, which quietly and calmly showed the same file without any brakes. 6 hours 50 minutes. Not so much fun anymore, but enough for a flight to Hurghada.

There are a couple of uncritical oddities with the battery. First, there is a clear calibration failure in the "tail" area. Up to 15%, the smartphone is discharged evenly, then at these 15% it freezes for a very long time, then, when it hangs down, it very quickly discharges to zero. The second oddity is that the last percent is charged for a very long time. Up to 99% - quickly and, it seems, even evenly (I did not research it in detail). And the last percent can be charged for another hour.

In general, far from worst battery turned out to be. In my mode of existence, it was more than enough for me for a day.

The ringtone volume is pretty average. For my taste, it could be louder. The vibration is not strong.

The ability to search for contacts made me happy. At least by the beginning of the name, at least by the beginning of the last name, at least by the phone number. However, there is no limit to perfection. I would also not refuse the possibility of searching by email address and by other fields from the phone book. And it happens that you only remember the name of the company where the person worked. And as his name - flew out of my head.

Skype works without problems, including video.

Two-sense

In real life I only use one SIM card. I put two in the device, but the second one was purely for order, I never used it.

Traditionally, only one of the SIM cards can work in 3G. What pleased us, you can switch it programmatically, right on the go. You do not need to physically swap SIM cards.

Fly IQ450 Horizon as a GPS navigator

Very navigational screen size, both for pedestrian and automotive use. Acceptable, judging by my "window sill" tests, battery life. It's a pity GLONASS is not supported. But even without it, the time for catching satellites is very good.

Fly IQ450 Horizon as a video player

The built-in player is capricious, I had to look for a replacement. Smart comrades reminded me of the existence of MX Player. Installed it, installed MX Player Codec (ARMv7) - and everything was fine. Even FullHD video is spinning fast and without brakes.

But you won't be able to display the picture on the big screen. There is no dedicated HDMI output or MHL support.

Fly IQ450 Horizon as an audio player

As for my ears - it's very good.

And there is also a radio. But I only listen to the radio in the car, and there - my radio receiver. So it's irrelevant.

Fly IQ450 Horizon and internet

On the one hand, the resolution of the device (let me remind you - 480x854) is not high. And non-mobile versions of sites are currently oriented at at least a thousand points in width. On the other hand, five inches of diagonal is still not enough for a full page view. Those. whether the resolution is at least 480x854, at least 720x1280, or even 1080x1920 like the Sharp Aquos Phone SH930W - at any resolution I will play with the scales and zoom in / out the readable part of the text. And I'm not saying that I won't see the difference between 480x854 and 1080x1920. I think I'll see it again. But this will not bring me a special increase in comfort when viewing sites.

A fairly strong cardboard box has been prepared, on which a colorful also cardboard wrapper is put on. On the walls of the latter, the user will see an illustration of the device, as well as a table with technical characteristics and specifications, plus all sorts of icons and even a QR code. In the latter, by the way, there is nothing usual - so the manufacturer "hides" information about its other smartphones. At least, I was convinced of this personally, which is confirmed by the illustration below.

Inside the box, in addition to the device itself, the user will find a charger adapter, as well as a wired headset, a micro cable and various documentation.

Body materials and assembly

The Fly IQ450 Horizon housing mainly uses plastic. There is very little metal - only inserts and edging functional elements, no more. The rim that runs along the perimeter, although it looks like metal, in fact is not so - it is also plastic, which is well made up for metal.

The build quality leaves a mixed impression. On the one hand, we have perfectly "knocked down" elements between themselves and minimal seams / gaps in the end, but on the other hand, the case materials creak noticeably. Of course, you shouldn't write off the simple fact - I had a pre-sale version of the smartphone in my hands. Nevertheless, according to rumors, a slight creak of the case can be traced in the commercial version of the device.

The handset sits perfectly in the hand, and there are two things to say thank you here - the texture of the rear panel, as well as the location of the power on / off button of the device. Yes, the front panel and border around the perimeter are glossy and very easily soiled, but the mentioned texture and the “correctly” located button definitely balance the discomfort that the user will feel from the gloss.

I have no complaints about the implementation of mechanical functional elements.
The buttons on the ends are perceptibly "raised" above the panel, which in turn excludes their sinking. The arrangement of the connectors is also flawless.

The battery cover is attached to the body of the case conveniently and quickly. But in order to remove it, you need to make some effort. However, over time you get used to this state of affairs.

Design

The exterior of Fly IQ450 Horizon cannot be called “revolutionary” in any way - everything is simple here, as, by the way, in other devices of the IQ line - a monotonous black body. True, by some measure the status, as well as the index 450, which is definitely higher than the previously considered IQ440 and IQ441, oblige to "stand out" against their background. And the IQ450 stands out.

And he does this not only with a banal mirror edging around the body, but also with a small thickness of the latter. Not God knows what, of course, but for a $ 300 handset with a 5-inch display, the thinnest is not bad.

Ergonomics of functional elements

The front panel of Fly IQ450 Horizon is divided between a 5-inch display, a slot for a communication speaker, a front-camera eye, and an orientation sensor, plus an indicator for displaying some system processes and three touch buttons just below the display.

Examining them from right to left, it is worth noting that the first button "takes" the user to the previous menu sub-item, the second is the home button and, finally, the third key is responsible for calling the context menu.

In the body of the rear panel there is a speaker output for the speakerphone, as well as a peephole for the main 8 MP camera and a dual LED flash.

In addition to everything mentioned, the only TM logo is located here.

On the right side panel there is a power on / off key for the device.

By means of the same button, the user can block all control of the handset.

From the opposite side, access to the paired sound volume control key opens.

At the top there is one of the two microphone pins, as well as a micro-USB port and a 3.5 mm jack.

All that the user will "meet" at the bottom end is a small gap so that the battery compartment cover can be removed, as well as another microphone output.

Brief technical characteristics

Communication standard

It is worth noting that in the SIM-cards settings menu there are several different colors that can be used to highlight SIM-ki. But the user will not be able to recognize by the ringtone which SIM card the incoming call is being made - the call signal for both "SIM-mok is the same"!

Preinstalled Apps

Customers should be noted with preinstalled applications in Fly IQ450 Horizon memory social networks Odnoklassniki, Twitter, Facebook. In addition, there is a separate app manager as well as a reading app e-books Reader.

Also worth noting is the ivi.ru store client, SPB TV and the voice changer application.

Camera capabilities

The smartphone is equipped with an 8 megapixel main camera, which the user can activate from the lock screen.
During shooting, the user gets the opportunity to work with a large viewfinder, on the sides of which there are various auxiliary elements. Dual LED flash available plus a huge amount of customization. We get to know all of them below in the illustrations.

Conclusions and impressions

Well, for its a little over $ 300, Fly has a pretty good 5-inch smartphone. The device is convenient both for long-term work in the WEB, and for telephone conversations, typing and watching videos. Of course, you can try to "reproach" the product for the lack of a higher display resolution or for the fact that the device looks rather simple, but against the background of the cost, this state of affairs is by no means critical, just like the disadvantages that are presented in the review below. From myself, I can add one thing - if at the moment you are puzzled by the purchase of an inexpensive 5-inch smartphone with dual-SIM support, a fairly good battery, the same equipment and a quite good camera, “get acquainted” with Fly IQ450 Horizon! I liked the pipe.

pros

Excellent fit of body elements;
Case thickness;
IPS-matrix and excellent display sensitivity;
Good quality of communication dynamics;
Battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh;

While the situation with these variants is generally clear, the junior representative of the series - MT6589M - has not yet been met by us. It differs from brothers in less frequency graphics core, the lack of the ability to work with video format 1080p and restrictions on screen and camera resolutions. At the same time, its processor cores can operate at the same maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz as the standard version, which means that in most simple scenarios, there should be no difference for the user.

For testing, we took the Fly IQ450 Quattro Horizon 2 smartphone for testing, which replaced the rather popular Fly IQ450 Horizon model and differs from it in the processor, RAM, front camera and operating system version.

At the same time, the device retained a 5 ″ screen of low resolution - only 854 × 480 pixels (less than 200 ppi), which looks unusual today. It is fair to say that similar models more than a dozen are represented on the local market and consumers have a certain demand for this option. A large screen, even at a low resolution, can be used for watching videos, navigating and playing games, and the platform performance requirements are reduced in this case.

In this article, in addition to the test of the smartphone itself, we will try to assess how critical are the features of the junior representative of the quad-core MediaTek platform, which has already proven its attractiveness for modern devices of the middle segment.

Characteristics

The model under review today is based on the junior modification of the MediaTek quad-core platform - MT6589M. It differs from its older brothers in a lower frequency of the graphics core - 156 MHz, the lack of support for FullHD video during recording and playback, the maximum screen resolution QHD (960 × 540) and the limitation on the matrix of the photo module of 8 megapixels. True, it should be noted that this information is provided one slide at a time from the company's presentation, and not according to the reports of diagnostic utilities. However, such a decrease in speed graphics module should be noticeable in tests as well. As with other devices, in the absence of a load, the frequencies of processor cores are reduced from 1.2 GHz to 500 MHz, which significantly reduces consumption in standby mode. Full stop of kernels is also supported.

The amount of RAM is 1 GB, of which 976 MB are available to the system, and with standard programs after reboot, more than 650 MB are free. Out of the total 4 GB of built-in flash memory, the user is allocated 669 MB for the "phone memory" section and 1.48 GB for the emulated drive. It is available "out of the box" 1.17 GB, by uninstalling programs, you can increase this value to 1.3 GB. Additionally, you can use a microSDHC memory card, so a problem with a lack of space is unlikely.

The graphics module is presented by our old acquaintance - PowerVR SGX 544MP. As we said above, according to the manufacturer's data, its operating frequency is 156 MHz. This is almost half that of the MT6589 and more than half that of the MT6589T. Fortunately, it needs a screen with a relatively low resolution - 854 × 480 pixels, which is even less than the maximum capabilities of the chip. But the installed IPS matrix boasts a 5 ″ diagonal. As a result of this combination, the pixel density is relatively low - less than 200 ppi. However, it cannot be said that this is very striking. Of course, upon close examination, "ladders" are visible on the fonts, and small text is practically unreadable, but the perception of this feature is very individual. Rather, it is worth saying that screens with a higher resolution give a better picture than that this option gives a bad one. The touch module supports up to five simultaneous touches at the same time.

Like most solutions on MediaTek, the model in question is capable of working with two SIM cards. One of them supports 3G, while the second is limited to second generation networks. Through the smartphone menu, you can change preferences over networks. The radio unit in this device does not support one and two active connections.

The standard microUSB port is used for connecting to a PC and charging. OTG support in the current firmware version is a bit strange. The mouse worked the first time, but out of several tested flash drives, only one worked. Wireless communications are represented by Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n in the 2.4 GHz band.

The main camera has a matrix of 8 megapixels, and the additional one is 1.9 megapixels. Both can record 720p video. The first has autofocus and LED flash.

Using special utilities and experience with the device, you can confirm the presence and operation of the light sensor and the proximity sensor. There is also an accelerometer and the user is able to test their strength in Ducati Challenge and other games. The situation with the orientation sensor was at first somewhat embarrassing - some programs managed to choose the right option for organizing their desktop, but many others could not.

The secret turned out to be in the "Auto-rotate" option disabled by default. Everything is limited to this set. The manufacturer even saved on the compass, although it must be admitted that it is not required very often.

As you can see from the table, this manufacturer has a very wide range of solutions with the parameters we have chosen. The biggest differences are in the diagonal and screen resolution. The amount of RAM is 1 GB for most devices. Usually an 8 MP main camera module is used. A little off to the side is a Qualcomm-based smartphone that boasts a capacious battery but only 512MB of RAM and simpler cameras. Please note that in terms of cost, the devices on the MediaTek platform are quite close.

The total number of models from all manufacturers with the specified characteristics on the local market is several dozen. So buyers will have to use some other criteria when choosing.

Equipment

The smartphone comes in a traditional small cardboard box with a pull-out tray. It contains specifications, key features and a photograph of the device.

The package bundle is standard for Fly and many other manufacturers: smartphone, rechargeable battery, power supply with USB output (5 V, 1 A), micro-USB cable, headset with microphone and button, user manual in Russian, warranty card, leaflets for additional software.

Perhaps, you can only pay attention to the fact that all the elements are made in white, just like the tested device.

Appearance and usability

Appearance the device differs from the previously reviewed Fly models. If you try to describe the design in one word, then perhaps the most appropriate would be "inexpensive". The device has a large body for this diagonal of the screen, which leads to wide frames and gives the impression of "puffed up". It is possible that on the version with a black case, which is also on the market, this is less striking.

But for the tested device of white color, it seems that the screen is too small and saved on it. The perception of this feature is exclusively subjective, it does not cause rejection, and there will certainly be users who will suit this option. The case shape cannot be called original, but the model looks good. True, the use of a sufficiently large number of silver parts does not allow us to call it universal.

The physical dimensions of the case are slightly larger than that of many 5 "devices - 146 × 76 mm. The thickness of the main part is a little less than 10 mm, the lens of the main camera protrudes a couple of millimeters. The device fits comfortably in the hand, but only if it is large. The weight of the smartphone (165 g) matches the dimensions well. Despite the smooth surface at the ends, you do not need to apply excessive force to hold the device in your hand.

In the considered variant, the frame around the screen is white. In the upper part there is a narrow earpiece grille covered with a silver mesh. To the right of it is the front camera window and light and proximity sensors. On the top left is a hidden two-color indicator for charging and other messages. It is visible only when it glows.

Three standard touch buttons are installed under the screen. Their logos are unevenly illuminated by white LEDs whenever the screen is at full brightness. The screen coating doesn't keep fingerprints from collecting very well, so you have to wipe the screen quite often. A low side helps protect against damage when placed on a flat surface with the screen down.

Fly installs a microUSB connector on the top end of many of its models. The same solution was chosen for the smartphone in question. In addition to miroUSB, there is a headset connector and an additional microphone hole. The main microphone is in a standard place on the bottom of the device.

The lock button was placed this time on the right side, and you can adjust the volume with a rocker on the opposite side. At first glance, both controls are made standard - plastic buttons protruding slightly from the body, with a clear push and correct rigidity.

However, in practice, using them with one hand (both left and right) was not very convenient. Could be a beveled edge back cover or an installation site on a large enclosure, but in most cases both hands were involuntarily used.

The buttons and microphones are located on a wide enough silver glossy insert that goes around the screen and covers the sides of the case. Partially there are also connectors. This frame is made of plastic and it is for it that the smartphone is usually held in the hand.

The back cover is made of sturdy white plastic and features a pattern that enhances the look and prevents fingerprints. The lid is held on snaps, the fastening is reliable, there are no gaps.

A protruding camera block is visible at the top of the rear panel. At the same time, there is a low plastic rim around the lens window to help protect it from scratches. To the right of the camera are two flash LEDs.

Below we see a modest manufacturer's logo and an external speaker grill. Its design helps eliminate blocking of sound when placing the unit with the speaker facing down on a table or other flat surface.

Removing the cover, we will see a fairly large battery, after dismantling which you can get access to two slots for SIM cards standard size mini-SIM and microSDHC card slot. It is a pity that replacing the latter also requires removing the battery. Note that the design of the slots for SIM-cards allows, with a certain skill, to use the micro-SIM format without an adapter.

In general, the smartphone looks good for its price category... There are no comments on the quality of workmanship, the materials have been chosen well. The design will not suit all users, but it will find its buyer.

Screen

The manufacturer installed an IPS-screen with a large diagonal (5 ″), but with a relatively low resolution - only 854 × 480 pixels in Fly IQ450 Quattro Horizon 2. So the pixel density is only 196 ppi. This choice was apparently dictated by the use of the younger version of the quad-core MediaTek platform, which has a reduced graphics performance, and the interest in a large screen among a certain category of users. In real use, the low resolution is probably noticeable only in the Web browser. For most other scenarios, this option is sufficient. A standard capacitive sensor detects up to five simultaneous touches. There are no comments on the quality of his work.

Detailed expertise using measuring instruments conducted by the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. You can read an expert opinion on this screen below.

The smartphone screen is covered with a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, and judging by the reflection of objects in it, there is no anti-glare filter or it is very weak. The reflection in the screen is tripled, which implies the presence of an air gap between the matrix surface and the outer glass. On the outer surface of the screen, perhaps, there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, since fingerprints do not appear as quickly as in the case of ordinary glass, but are removed a little easier.

With manual brightness control, its maximum value was 400 cd / m², minimum - 50 cd / m². As a result, at maximum brightness in bright daylight on the screen, most likely, something will be at least somehow visible, and in complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. There is an automatic brightness control by the light sensor (the first peephole to the right of the front speaker). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. In complete darkness in automatic mode, the brightness is reduced to 50 cd / m² (normal), in an office lit with artificial light, the brightness is set to 170 cd / m² (acceptable), in a brightly lit environment (corresponds to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight light) - rises to a maximum - up to 400 cd / m². As a result, this function works quite adequately. At low brightness, there is some modulation of the backlight, but its amplitude does not reach 100%, and the spectrum of modulation frequencies has a maximum in the region of 20 kHz, so visually flickering of the backlight cannot be seen and the presence of such modulation cannot in any way affect the comfort of working with this smartphone.

This screen has an IPS type matrix. The micrograph demonstrates the subpixel structure typical for IPS - you can notice the division of subpixels by the control electrodes into narrow "beds" characteristic of IP:

The screen has very good viewing angles with no tint inversion and no significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from perpendicular to the screen. However, on a white background at some angles the points of the capacitive sensor flicker. When deviated along the diagonal, the black field lightens very little and, depending on the direction of deviation, acquires a violet or red-violet hue. With a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is average, since in several places along the edge there are slightly overexposed areas, and longitudinal structuredness is visible on the black field. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 28 ms (15 ms on + 13 ms off). The transition between mid-tones of 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes 43 ms. The contrast is low - about 350: 1. The 32-point gamma curve did not reveal any blockage in highlights or shadows, and the indicator of the approximating power function is 2.40, which is slightly below the standard value of 2.2, while the real gamma curve deviates noticeably from the power law:

The color gamut is close to sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components together:

As a result, the colors visually have natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is relatively good, since the color temperature, albeit much higher than the standard 6500 K, but the deviation from the spectrum of an absolutely black body (delta E) is less than 10, which is considered a good indicator for a consumer device, in addition, color temperature variation and delta E is small, which has a positive effect on the visual perception of color balance. (The dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there does not really matter, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

The main disadvantages of this screen are the actual absence of an anti-reflective filter, a very weak oleophobic coating and low contrast, otherwise the characteristics are more or less balanced.

Sound

The external speaker has a low level of maximum volume, so even in the main scenario - playing call melodies - it will be effective only in a quiet environment. In combination with a limited frequency range, this feature leads to the fact that musical compositions performed by him do not "ignite" at all. The situation can be slightly improved by placing the speaker down on the table, but this result can hardly be considered attractive.

Against this background, the sound of a standard headset is noticeably more interesting, since low frequencies appear and the sound becomes like music. And the volume in this version is much higher. The headset button is used in the music player for start / pause and for answering phone calls.

The headset connector turned out to be incompatible with the Apple and HTC models that we usually use for testing. So the question of choosing an alternative model is not easy. The option of using standard headphones is of course acceptable.

The speaker is generally good at conveying speech. The volume is at an average level, the sound is clear as when calling through cellular networkand Skype.

The smartphone has two built-in microphones, which are located at the top and bottom ends of the case. In ordinary telephone communication, only the main microphone works, and its sensitivity is at high level... And the second does not take any part in this mode. The microphone on the standard headset is slightly worse than the built-in one, but it is quite functional. The second microphone on the body is involved in video recording, as well as in Skype. Although the latter decision is a bit controversial, especially when it comes to voice calls.

Note here that the vibrating alert in the device is very weak and can go unnoticed in a large bag or pocket of outer clothing.

Camera

The main camera of the smartphone has an 8 megapixel matrix and is capable of taking pictures with a resolution of up to 3264 × 2448. It has autofocus and two flash LEDs. The latter are effective in complete darkness at distances of about three meters. They can also be used when filming. The installed minor version of the SoC limits the ability to record video in 720p format. The additional front camera is equipped with a 1.9 megapixel matrix (up to 1600 × 1200 pixels), for video, the same limitation is 720p.

The standard utility for working with the camera does not differ from the previously seen implementations on the MediaTek platform. A single interface is used for photo and video modes. The main camera supports HDR, panoramas, scenarios and other shooting options. There is no way to use the volume buttons for shooting.

The settings are also standard - coordinates, exposure control, photo and video effects, white balance, ISO, self-timer, continuous shooting, resolution, etc. I was glad that in the conditions of the average level of office lighting both cameras give a good picture in Skype.

Filming of videos is carried out in a 3gpp container. Three quality options are available in the program settings, slightly different for the main and secondary cameras. Their parameters are given in the table. Note that the sound is actually recorded in mono in all modes.

Sample photos taken with Fly IQ450 Quattro Horizon 2 are given below:

Good sharpness on all shots. A slight blur is visible at the right edge.

The inscriptions on the billboards are fairly well distinguishable.

The trees in the background are well done.

Good sharpness on almost all shots. The camera does a good job with grass.

The grass and paving stones are well worked out. The trees in the background also look good except for the right edge.

The camera is also good at water.

The camera copes with shooting moving objects.

Sometimes, even very good - you can distinguish the faces of people

Excellent detail in macro photography.

Another example of good detail.

In low light conditions, the camera does well in macro photography.

However, the situation deteriorates when using the flash.

Black text on a white background works well and is not damaged, but problems with white text on a red background appear.

The camera turned out to be good. For 8 megapixels, the sharpness is more than decent in places. The camera manages to work out even complex backgrounds. Presumably, not without the help of software processing, nevertheless, it looks very good. Outstanding noises in the shadows are hard to find. Overall, the camera does a pretty good job of exposure. And she does macro photography very well. But it also has its drawbacks, like a flash disease, which for some reason worsens lighting when it should work the other way around. So in pictures with a hare, light sensitivity and shutter speed without flash are less than with flash. The camera handles text well, but again, not any. Sharpness in terms of plans and in the field is good, but the right edge of the picture is clearly blurred by inaccurate installation or processing of the lens.

In general, the camera turned out to be good, even despite its few disadvantages. It is quite suitable for both documentary and artistic photography.

Software

As we said in our previous articles about Fly products, there is no need to look for firmware updates on the official website. But if you wish, you can find other sources of new versions. Our testing used SW18 firmware released this summer.

The company does not use any special additions to the standard Android 4.2.1. However, the list of preinstalled programs is quite large.

It includes, in particular, a file manager, an e-book reader, programs for watching online videos and TV shows, a couple of games, and a specialized bank client. Many of the programs can be removed using standard tools.

Telephone part and communications

Like other solutions with MediaTek, the smartphone in question is capable of working with two SIM cards. However, there can only be one active connection. If there is a conversation on one of the cards, it is impossible to get through to the second one. One of the slots is capable of working in 3G networks, and the other - only with 2G. Through the menu, you can select the card with which you want to get fast Internet without physically rearranging them.

The smartphone confidently supports 3G networks and prefers to work with them. The download speed of data from the Internet is several megabits per second. I was pleased with the sending speed - often it was more than 1.5 Mbps.

The platform supports Bluetooth 4.0. The device implements profiles for working with sound, player control, file exchange and Internet connection. The speed of work does not cause any comments - about 130 Kbps.

The wireless controller of the device supports the 2.4 GHz band and 802.11b / g / n networks. It is capable of operating in dual channel mode with a connection speed of 135 Mbps. Real performance in good conditions is around 55-60 Mbps, which is very good. There are no comments on the stability and sensitivity of the Wi-Fi module in this model. We will mention support for Wi-Fi Direct, access point mode and wireless display (the latter function, however, could not be detected by the Netgear PTV3000 test receiver).

The GPS module has support for A-GPS and EPO technologies. Its sensitivity is very good compared to many other tested models on a similar platform. During the entire testing period, there were no comments on his work. The system starts quickly and works accurately.

The built-in FM receiver works only when headphones are connected. Sound can be output from the main speaker. There is a built-in system for searching channels, storing a list of stations and recording programs.

Performance

From the point of view of performance in this model, first of all, it is interesting to look at its position relative to other representatives of the quad-core MediaTek platform. In the tables in this section, we have collected several models on the SoC family under consideration.

According to the first group of tests, which mainly evaluate processor cores, we can see that the device shows the expected results on the level of other smartphones on the MT6589 platform. The slower graphics engine speed can be compensated for by low screen resolutions.

The graphics unit in the younger version of the platform suffered the most, so its performance in graphics applications is very interesting. True, here, when analyzing the results, it is necessary to take into account the relatively low screen resolution of the smartphone model in question.

The 3DMark benchmark uses a fixed resolution for the render buffer so that the physical screen resolution does not affect the result. The Fly IQ450 Quattro indicator is the lowest, however, it is not far behind the results obtained on the middle version of the platform, as one might think based on the information about the frequency of the graphics chip. It is possible that in this case processor cores influence the speed of the test more significantly.

Epic Citadel works in matrix resolution and is a relatively simple test, so its high performance allows us to say that Fly IQ450 Quattro is quite suitable for modern games. The performance of the model is sufficient for projects such as Asphalt 7: Heat, Ducati Challenge and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Of course, the low screen resolution affects the readability of some labels, but the gameplay itself is quite comfortable.

GLBenchmark in onscreen mode also works with real resolution, so here too, simultaneous reduction clock frequency and permissions allow you to keep the result at the level of other models.

In normal operation, the performance of the smartphone is not satisfactory. The desktops turn over smoothly, standard programs, including the Web browser, work well. Perhaps the update of the Android version to 4.2.1 played a role in this.

Testing the speed of work with flash memory was carried out with by Transcend card UHS-I class 32 GB. The smartphone allows you to work with the built-in memory in MTP mode, and for an external memory card you can use both MTP and USB storage emulation (in the second case, access to the card from the operating system is blocked).

recordingreading
microSD (Storage mode)14.4 MB / s18.6 MB / s
microSD (MTP mode)9.8 MB / s18.5 MB / s
Built-in memory (MTP mode)7.8 MB / s22.4 MB / s

Reading speed in all modes is at a high level and is approximately equal to 20 MB / s. The recording is carried out at a noticeably lower speed, the absolute indicators are at an average level.

Video playback test

Considering the not very successful implementation of the video decoding unit in this generation of the MediaTek platform, we pay attention to this issue in each review. In this case, the official specifications indicate the impossibility of working with FullHD videos, which is confirmed in tests. The scenario of the video player was tested using our set of video files (see "Testing methods for video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). There are no video outputs in this smartphone, so I had to limit myself to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself.

BDRip 1080pMKV, H.264 1920 × 1080 8000 Kbps, AC3reproduced with delays in program mode not supported

Except for disabling hardware decoding of 1080p video, we did not notice any noticeable differences from the previously reviewed models in terms of the quality of working with videos, the problem with smooth playback, unfortunately, remained. As for the supported formats, the possibilities have not changed - the device is capable of playing popular versions of videos encoded in profiles for mobile devices, YouTube and filmed on other smartphones. As for 1080p, in fact, in software mode, MX Player can handle it, including 1080p60. However, the number of dropped frames for 50p and 60p is too high, and this option has a negative effect on power consumption. Also, don't forget about the device's screen resolution, which is noticeably lower than 720p. So the optimal format for this deviceperhaps it should be considered 720p with frame rates up to 30 fps.

Below is a traditional table of test results on a set of files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame from our method. Screenshots with a 1 second exposure helped determine the frame output behavior of video files with different parameters. This time, only the first part of a set of 720p files was used at 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60 fps.

Note: If both columns Uniformity and Skips "green" ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and skipping of frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect the viewing comfort. "Red" marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the corresponding files.

In most cases, either the intervals between frames (or groups of frames) are interleaved unevenly or a significant portion of the frames are skipped. When playing video files with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (720p), the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly on the edge of the screen while maintaining the correct proportions. The brightness range displayed on the screen does not correspond to the standard range (that is, the range of 16-235) - shades "blacker than black" are reflected in the shadows, and a blockage by several shades is observed in the highlights. As a result, we can conclude that this smartphone is not very suitable for watching movies, despite its relatively large screen.

Battery life

Time testing autonomous work was carried out according to the version of the method with setting the screen brightness to a fixed value of 100 cd / m². As before, three scenarios were used as tasks: reading, watching 720p video over Wi-Fi in MX Player, and playing games (Epic Citadel utility). The smartphone in question has an average capacity of 2000 mAh, and given the diagonal of the device's screen, we expect the results to be comparable to other participants. Note also that there are no special system optimization settings to increase the battery life in this model. However, the manufacturer of the device may well influence the operation of the algorithms for controlling the processor's firmware, so that even models on the same platform may have different indicators.

The Fly IQ450 Quattro lasted for almost eleven and a half hours in reading mode, which can be considered a good result in its class. Watch video by wireless network you can play with this model for more than seven hours, and play for almost five hours. For a device of this configuration, the numbers are quite decent. Of course, it's a pity that the manufacturer could not install a larger battery in a large enough case. In this case, the question of the cost of the solution turned out to be more important.

Using a standard power supply unit allows you to replenish the battery charge in 2 hours 30 minutes. An attempt to connect a non-original 2A model led to an increase in the time to three hours. An indicator on the front panel allows you to determine whether charging is in progress (red) or has already ended (green).

In real use, the device can last for several days on a single charge if you use only basic operating scenarios. In standby mode with Wi-Fi on and without talking, the smartphone lasted more than a week. So for the target audience of the device, which does not require resource-intensive games and applications, the model looks quite attractive, especially when you consider the large screen.

Price

The average cost of the device at the time of this writing was about 8,000 rubles. This figure does not seem to be very adequate technical specifications, even if you look only at the models officially available on the local market. The same Fly IQ451 Vista is quite a bit more expensive, but much more interesting in many ways. The Fly IQ446 Magic also competes with the device, which has a smaller diagonal, but higher resolution screen.

If you try to look for options for two SIM-cards with a 5 ″ screen, then there will be many options in this and lower price ranges (including those with a high screen resolution). Of course, many of them are based on other processor models. But, frankly, the need for four cores in this segment is at least questionable. So at the moment it is very difficult to unambiguously assess the price attractiveness of the model in question. The niche in terms of technical characteristics for it is very narrow, which allows the manufacturer to set its own rules, but the market in this price segment is very dense, so users will look at models that are slightly different in parameters. Reducing the cost, in our opinion, would significantly increase the attractiveness of the device for consumers.

Outcome

First of all, it is worth saying a few words about the younger version of the quad-core MediaTek platform. Despite a significant decrease in the frequency of the graphics module, practical use in most scenarios, this is almost invisible. Testing in games showed that the processor successfully copes with this task. So, the hardware limitations on the resolution of the screen and the camera are more significant, but these parameters are clearly indicated in the technical characteristics of smartphones, and it is not difficult to choose by them. The last difference - the lack of support for 1080p video - no longer plays any role, since it makes no sense to use videos of this format on screens with a resolution below HD. Although, as the test showed, such videos can be watched in program mode.

The Fly IQ450 Quattro Horizon 2 smartphone by the sum of its characteristics can be called a typical representative of the middle class. Of the positive features, it is worth noting a fast platform, Android 4.2.1, a good 5 ″ screen, support for two SIM-cards, good work of 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as a high-quality case. For a certain category of users, a set of pre-installed in the device may be useful software. Accumulator battery and cameras are not highlighted in this segment. At the same time, the low resolution significantly reduces the effect of the large diagonal of the screen, the design of the device cannot be called universal, and the cost of the model at the moment does not correspond to the technical characteristics and makes it very difficult to classify the device as inexpensive.
