The surface of the device has a pleasant velvet texture, so it does not try to slip out of the palm. The front side is completely "occupied" by 2.5D glass with spectacular sloping edges.

The screen received rather narrow side frames. Under it is the usual mTouch navigation button with a built-in touch-sensitive fingerprint scanner, which reacts very clearly to touch. On the bottom edge there is an external speaker, which has received a new shape in the form of three rectangular slots. It also houses a microUSB port, an audio jack and a main microphone. And the upper end is supplied exclusively with a second microphone. There is a 4000 mAh battery with the ability fast charging... Available colors: gray, gold, blue and silver. At the same time, bright shades dominate here, which makes it possible to enjoy a colorful image. There is a special eye protection technology that significantly reduces eye strain. As for the brightness, it is set manually or automatically. The display has excellent anti-reflective properties, as well as an effective oleophobic coating.

Iron and performance

Inside the smartphone M5 Note there is an eight-core Helio P10 processor. Its maximum frequency is 1800 MHz. The graphics accelerator is GPU Mali-T860. The base version of the phone gets 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, as well as 16GB or 32GB of built-in file storage, expandable with microSD cards up to 128GB. There is also an advanced modification with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of RAM. The device operates under control operating system Android 6.0 and Flyme shells. The performance of the gadget is quite good - about 50,000 points in the AnTuTu test. The smartphone confidently copes with a wide variety of tasks, and even many games run without visible problems. But, of course, the maximum level of graphics is not set in every game.

Communication and sound

A high-quality earpiece speaker Meizu M5 Note makes the interlocutor's voice sound clear even on the street. The external speaker has a medium volume with a predominance high frequencies... In headphones, things are the same without frank miracles.

Sales of the smartphone M3 Note from Meizu reached 20 million copies last year, which made it one of the most successful devices in the history of the company. The manufacturer decided to repeat its success with the new M5 Note model.

The Chinese consider the number 4 to be unlucky, which is why the five appears in the name of the smartphone. The first million devices sold out in about 21 seconds, according to the company. In our review of Meizu M5 Note, we will tell you why this model is doomed to become a bestseller.

Video review Meizu M5 Note

Price and main characteristics

Meizu M5 Note comes in three versions for 16/32/64 GB internal memory and 3/3/4 GB of RAM. The cost of copies is $ 130 / $ 165 / $ 195, respectively.

Specifications:

  • display: 5.5 ", IPS LCD 1920 * 1080 px, ppi 403;
  • processor: eight-core MediaTek MT6755 (1.8 GHz) + video accelerator Mali-T860;
  • RAM: 3/4 GB LPDDR3;
  • internal memory: 16/32/64 GB + microSD flash cards up to 128 GB;
  • camera: main - 13 MP, front - 5 MP;
  • communication: Wi-Fi (a / b / g / n) Dual-Band, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), GSM / EDGE, UMTS / HSDPA, LTE (TD / FDD-LTE);
  • battery: 4000 mAh.

Dimensions - 153.6 x 75.8 x 8.1 mm. The approximate weight of the smartphone is 165 grams. The system runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with proprietary shell FlymeOS 6.0. AT this version shell built-in smart assistant One Mind.

Design and ergonomics

The smartphone is sold in a white box with a minimalistic design. In addition to the M5 Note itself, there is a miniUSB cable inside, a block charger, documentation and a company clip to open the tray with SIM cards.

Externally, Meizu M5 Note is practically no different from the previous model. Changes affected the material of the case, now it is entirely made of metal, except for thin plastic stripes on the back of the device. They function as antennas, which, according to Meizu, began to work almost twice as well. Thanks to the high build quality, the smartphone looks much more expensive than its price.

The color palette has also been updated. Blue paint has been added to the three traditional options (dark gray, silver, gold).

The layout of almost all of the controls is identical to the M3 Note. Under the display is a fingerprint scanner built into a mechanical button. When pressed, it acts as the Home key, and when touched, it acts as the Back key.

At the top of the front side are the proximity and lighting sensors, a speaker grill, a 5MP camera, and an LED event indicator.

On the left is a combined tray for two SIM-cards, which opens with a proprietary clip. The user can insert a microSD card into one of the slots to expand the internal memory.

On the right side there are volume control and screen activation buttons.

The 3.5 mm headphone jack has moved to the bottom. There is also a microUSB connector, speaker and microphone.

Above - the only hole for an additional microphone. Together with the main one, it forms a noise reduction system.

On the back there is a 13-megapixel camera with flash, just below the company logo. The cover cannot be removed, the body is monolithic.

Bottom line: M5 Note looks more expensive than its predecessor and most competitors in its price category... Its body is slightly thinner, and the headphone jack is now on the bottom edge. But in general, this is still the same recognizable Meizu.

Display

The M5 Note uses a 5.5-inch IPS Full HD display. The pixel density is 403 units per inch. The screen is covered with 2.5D glass with an oleophobic coating.

The brightness of the display varies from 5 to 345 cd / m², the reserve is quite enough for comfortable use in direct sunlight. The contrast level is slightly higher than that of its predecessor. The viewing angles are almost maximum.

The M5 Note display can be operated in a special "eye protection" mode. When activated, the colors on the screen change to warmer tones. The rest of the display parameters can be adjusted in the device settings. There is a possibility of unlocking using gestures.

Overall, the screen of the M5 Note is slightly better than that of the M3 Note. The display still falls short of the level of Meizu flagship smartphones, but at the same time it is in no way inferior to competing with similar solutions from Xiaomi and other manufacturers.

Iron, productivity

At the heart of the hardware component is an eight-core MediaTek MT6755 processor with a frequency of 1.8 GHz. The phone comes with three versions of internal storage for 16, 32 and 64 GB. The size of the RAM has expanded compared to its predecessor. Now even the cheapest variant has 3 GB of RAM.

The video accelerator Mali-T860 works with graphics. In Antutu, the smartphone scored 43429 points.

The power reserve of the device is almost completely identical to the previous model. In everyday use of the smartphone in the Flyme shell, no lags or braking were noticed.

To some extent, the M5 Note can be used as a gaming smartphone. World of Tanks Blitz produces about 50-60 frames per second with medium graphics settings, which is a very good result. During the test, the case also did not heat up to over 40 degrees.

Cameras, image and video quality

The main disadvantage of the M3 Note is its weak camera. In this matter, the smartphone was far behind its rival Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, which also lacked stars from the sky. The next Meizu model should have rectified the situation.

The M5 Note's camera has almost met the expectations of the brand's fans. The 13MP phase focusing primary lens shows top scoresthan its predecessor. The difference is clearly visible when shooting close-ups.

Some problems were noticed as well. For example, when capturing a frame indoors in low light, there are problems with autofocus, he sometimes selects the wrong subjects. Manually specifying the focus point has a negative effect on the brightness of the resulting photo, the problem with exposure jumps quite often.

The shooting algorithm for the front camera was developed by ArcSoft, which helped create the camera in the Vivo XShot smartphone. It is considered one of the best camera phones on the market. mobile phones... The innovation had a positive effect on the quality of frames from the Meizu M5 front camera.

Speaker and sound quality

The work of the main speaker did not cause any complaints or admiration. The phone's sound is average.

During a conversation, the interlocutor is well heard, thanks to a good microphone, they will also understand you. The noise reduction system works at a high level.

Battery, battery life

A 4000 mAh battery is installed inside the smartphone. That's 100mAh less than the previous model. In normal use, the device will last from one to two days.

The M5 Note features MediaTek PumpExpress fast charging technology. It can charge the battery up to 80% in about an hour.

Wireless communications and internet

The smartphone supports dual-band Wi-Fi, 4G, EDGE, GPRS, HSPA +, LTE, Bluetooth interface with Low Energy energy saving profile.

Satellite navigation takes place thanks to GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS. There is a digital compass.

Competitors, conclusions

Meizu M5 Note is the familiar M3 Note in a slightly different wrapper. The manufacturer did not offer anything revolutionary in the new model. There are some minor design and performance changes. Now, even for the lowest price, the buyer gets 3 GB of RAM. Meizu also tried to slightly improve the quality of images from the camera - the weakest point of the previous model. In general, the M5 Note is one of the best solutions in its price category.

Users of the top-end M3 Note with three gigabytes of RAM may not update to the M5 Note due to the minimal difference between devices. If you have not used the Meizu technique before, we strongly recommend starting your acquaintance with the brand with the M5 Note.

The traditional competitor Xiaomi has in its assortment a similar positioning phone Redmi Note 4x. The only significant advantage of the 4X over the M5 Note is performance, it makes sense to take it if you need a smartphone for toys. In all other cases, we recommend M5 Note for purchase - it is a high-quality and pleasant-to-use gadget for adequate money.

Meizu M5 Note received a metal case with a fingerprint scanner. The novelty looks nice, but it almost completely copies in design.

The build quality is good enough for a phone at this price point. Unlike its predecessor, the Meizu M5 Note added 20 grams and got a noticeable notch between the bezel and the back panel.

The front panel of the device is quite similar to and almost completely repeats. It differs from Apple phones only by an oval physical button under the screen. The back turned out to be more memorable, albeit similar to - on it you can see a camera eye with a flash, the MEIZU inscription and antenna strips on top and bottom. I am glad that the lens does not stick out from the body, although even top smartphones, for example, or. The power and volume buttons are on the right, a tray for two nanoSIM cards (or a SIM card and a memory card) is on the left, at the bottom is a microUSB connector, a microphone and a 3.5 mm mini-jack. The speaker grill is also located at the bottom. In terms of volume, it can be rated at five: high-quality and clear sound reproduction with sufficiently deep bass. Unusual details include the use of a 2.5D glass curved around the edges and a functional fingerprint scanner hidden in a button under the screen.

Dimensions Meizu M5 Note - 153.6 × 75.8 × 8.1 mm, weight - 175 grams. The smartphone is larger and significantly heavier than many competitors.

Buy Meizu M5 Note will be available in four colors: silver, gold, blue and dark gray.

Screen

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD-resolution (1920 × 1080) and a pixel density of 403 per inch, which is comparable, for example, to. One of the features of the display is a 2.5D glass curved at the edges, although today this does not surprise anyone. The manufacturer claims a high screen brightness (450 cd / m2) and a contrast ratio of 1000: 1. The display is neither oversaturated nor too bright, but the color accuracy is far from perfect. However, you will be pleasantly surprised - the display gamut is good. This means that the screen reproduces grayscale correctly, and the image on it will not appear too dark or overexposed.

Cameras

Meizu M5 Note is equipped with photo modules average for its categories. The 13MP main camera uses an f / 2.2 aperture sensor. The manufacturer claims fast phase detection autofocus (focusing in 0.2 seconds), dual-tone flash and protective glass lens Gorilla Glass 3. The front camera with a resolution of 5 MP is equipped with an f / 2.0 sensor and has a wide shooting angle. Nominally, the parameters of the cameras look quite typical. Judging by its predecessor, the smartphone is unlikely to be able to produce high-quality photos. However, only direct images will show the quality of the images. The menu with camera settings is concise and clear. Here you can add effects, play with focus, setting an emphasis on the foreground or background. do great in macro photography, and the M5 Note is no exception.

Communications

The set of communications Meizu M5 Note is standard for today:

  • dual band Wi-Fi a / b / g / n
  • LTE with voLTE support
  • Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy
  • A-GPS with GLONASS support.

The smartphone cannot boast of support for IrDA or NFC chip. The novelty does not have an FM radio either, although today it has already become a kind of tradition among devices in a metal case. Meizu M5 Note works with two nanoSIM cards, but the slot for the second is a combined one, it is also claimed by a microSD card. The usual microUSB with OTG support is used for charging, although some expected to see a new one in this place. USB Type-C... A 3.5 mini jack is intended for connection.

Battery

The Meizu M5 Note is equipped with a 4000mAh capacious battery. This is comparable to the predecessor Meizu M3 Note and slightly less than the long-liver. The company promises more than 30 hours of talk time, 36 hours of listening to music or 17 hours of video.

The Meizu M5 Note has excellent battery life results. The smartphone lives for two days at an average load, with very active use of charging it lasts for 9 hours 45 minutes, and in game mode - for 5-5.5 hours. The device, unlike the Meizu M3 Note, supports fast charging technology (MediaTek PumpExpress). In half an hour, the battery is charged by 50%, and a full charge takes 90 minutes, which is a pleasant surprise.

Performance

The 64-bit 8-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor (four cores) is responsible for the performance of the Meizu M5 Note. ARM Cortex A53 with clock frequency up to 1.8 GHz + four cores at 1.0 GHz), working in tandem with the Mali-T860 graphics chip - the same used in the Meizu M3 Note and. The chipset has established itself as sufficiently productive, it is enough for fast interface operation and solving most smartphone tasks. Users are offered a choice of 3 or 4 GB of RAM.

Features:

Meizu M5 Note runs on Flyme 5.2.4.0 OS based on. Flyme, like Apple's iOS, revolves around a single-tier UI - every app or widget sits directly on the desktop. With such a system, there is no need to create an additional application bar, which is typical for Android. All other system functions are configured either through the settings menu or through the security application.

Memory

The memory capacity of Meizu M5 Note can be 16, 32 or 64 GB, depending on the modification. If there is not enough free space, you can always install a microSD memory card, although more top smartphones from the company, for example, or. Just keep in mind that in this case you will be left without a second SIM card.

Price

The price of the Meizu M5 Note in China will start at 899 yuan for the younger version (about 8,500 rubles) and 1,499 yuan for the top-end version (about 14,000 rubles). In Russia, a smartphone can be bought for 10,000 rubles.

Of course they are good, but few can afford such things. But inexpensive smartphones of A-brands, as a rule, look boring and do not cause any emotions. And strictly speaking, they cannot be called so budgetary, 15 thousand rubles is quite a usual price for an ordinary Samsung or Sony. But with the heyday of Chinese manufacturers in the past two years, many devices have appeared on the market at prices up to 10,000 rubles, which are in no way inferior to more expensive and eminent competitors. And by this year, among the owners of such pipes, there are almost no those who "could not afford anything else." Now the demand is dictated by those "who do not consider it necessary to overpay for the brand and believe the old stereotypes."

And if we talk about the best representatives of the Middle Kingdom, then after Huawei, Xiaomi and Meizu immediately come to mind. The latter recently released the M5 Note, which costs about 8 thousand rubles and leaves almost no chance for other budget handsets. However, let's find out what exactly he is so good at and whether there were no pitfalls?

Design, ergonomics and software

Last year was, this year - M5 Note. The number four has traditionally been omitted and is a common practice among Asian companies.

There are not many external differences between the M3 Note and the M5 Note, but they all came in handy. The first thing to pay attention to is the shape of the case. The smoothly rounded edges of the M3 Note seemed to the designers not a very good idea, now the body is more angular, rough. But, oddly enough, the phone looks much more expensive. In terms of the overall level of performance, Meizu M5 Note is in no way inferior to the iPhone 6.

The upper and lower dies of the rear panel have become metal, unlike the plastic ones of the predecessor. And the inevitable plastic "window" for the antennas of the wireless modules turned into a thin strip at the top - just like the iPhone of the sixth generation.

The dimensions of the case remained the same, even its thickness does not differ, despite the fact that the battery has slightly lost its capacity. Due to the new shape, the smartphone looks thicker. But this is a purely visual feature, in practice 8.3 mm is normal. Previous model looked thinner just because of the rounded edges, but here we have a perfectly flat back cover... And the camera, by the way, does not protrude beyond the body - it is even slightly recessed inside. So those who like to put the gadget on the back don't have to worry - the lens won't get scratched.

As you can see, a white M5 Note came to my test, but this model also exists in dark gray, gold and blue versions. On the left side of the case there is a tray for a SIM card and a memory card. Below are two familiar connectors: mini-jack and microUSB. Well, on the right in the usual places are the power key and a double button for adjusting the volume.

The most unusual thing in the Android world (and very typical for Meizu) will continue to be the lack of three traditional buttons. M5 Note like others meizu models, perfectly manages with one key on the front panel. It is large, comfortable, located right in the center under the screen, and a fingerprint scanner is also built into it. The charm button responds not only to physical taps, but also to gestures. For example, to return to the previous screen, you just need to touch a key without pressing it. Of course, after other smartphones it will be unusual, but in general, in terms of convenience, this option is no worse.

The fingerprint sensor works like a clock, and the smartphone is unlocked in a split second. Difficulties arise only with wet and heavily soiled fingers, in which case it is better to enter a pincode or pattern.

The operating system is not the most relevant android version - 6.0 Marshmallow, but the fifth generation Flyme OS makes up for this shortcoming. There are few branded applications, which is especially pleasing after the intrusive pipes of ASUS, ZTE and BQ Mobile. There are no complaints about the speed of the system. The only thing I really didn't like was the icon design in the default theme, but that can be easily fixed in the settings.

Meizu used to produce extremely expensive devices with top-end filling. Later it became clear that seriously compete with other brands, having only flagship smartphones, will not work. The company is switching to the production of phones in the middle price segment. One of them is the Meizu M5 Note phablet. The price when the device went on sale ranged from 11 to 17 thousand rubles, depending on the memory of the device.

Meizu M5 Note is an inexpensive but serious enough smartphone with average technical characteristics... The model is produced in a metal case, available four colors - gold, silver, dark gray, blue. In all cases, except for a dark gray smartphone, the front side is made in white. Meizu specifications M5 Note are presented in the table below.

It was mentioned above that the device is available in four colors. In general, the design is quite standard. Behind in the middle is located camera and two-tone flash underneath... Both have a round shape, they look laconic on the metal case, there is a border that emphasizes them.

The front side traditionally has branded button mTouch with different pressing mechanisms and swipe recognition. It also contains a finger scanner. Above the screen is a camera, a notification LED, a light sensor, and an earpiece. The sound quality is very decent.

All control buttons are collected on the left side - volume and power. On the right is the SIM card slot. Plastic buttons, metal slot. Headphones, charger, speaker and microphone jacks are located on the bottom edge. The top face has no connectors.

Important! The device has excellent build quality and ergonomics. It's quite easy to get used to its size, the phone doesn't seem too bulky in the hand.

The screen has fHD resolution, the picture is pleasant, the white color does not roll into blue or gray, the black is not very deep, but it looks good. The viewing angles are large, although distortion is noticeable at maximum tilt, nevertheless, in practice, this does not interfere with the work. The maximum brightness makes it possible to view the image in bright sun, and at the minimum, the screen is quite comfortable to look at at night. Oleophobic coating high Quality, prints are erased without much difficulty. Multi-touch is designed for 10 touches.

operating system

Meizu M5 Note works under the control of the Android system and with branded flyme firmware 5th version.By the time the device was released, an update of the proprietary shell to version 6 was announced, but out of the box version is still 5. Visually, it is not too different from the usual Android or shells from other Chinese manufacturers. However, there are some peculiarities, and one of them is related to the mTouch button.

Despite the fact that the control button is one, it supports gestures and different pressing mechanisms, which makes it multifunctional. With it, you can switch between applications, go back one step, exit to the desktop and do many more actions. At first glance, this may seem complicated, but numerous reviews agree that mastering the button is intuitive and very fast.

On a note! Before Meizu, other Chinese manufacturers tried to create one-button control of the smartphone, but they failed to implement the idea in a high-quality way.

In addition, the phone has a range of special features... In the settings you can choose:

  • switching tracks right on the lock screen;
  • enable unlocking by writing a letter on the display;
  • turn on the screen by double click on the display.

Thanks to multiple features smart button the phone is very convenient to use considering its size. Often, phablets cause difficulties for users when they try to reach with their finger to an icon or button. Most often, phones with a diagonal of 5.5 inches are used with two hands. AT meizu smartphone M5 Note is really do with one hand. The device has three power modes, and access to Root rights you can literally with one click.

The Meizu M5 Note camera has resolution 13 megapixels, optics of five lenses, phase focusing. There is a backlight with two tones - warm and cold. The application installed in the phone has 10 modes. Even in auto mode, the device copes well with photos. Macro photography gives detailed photos, portraits are just as good. The weak part of the device is shooting distant shots. This is where the picture starts to float.

Important! In Meise M5 Note, the standard disease of any budget phonenight shooting... Even in the special mode, the pictures are quite mediocre if there is not enough lighting.

AT meizu phone M5 Note has the ability to make gifs, their duration is 6 seconds, but the resolution is ridiculous - 320 * 320 pixels. An interesting point - selective focus. Even with one camera, the device can focus on different objects, and if you shoot the same picture with different focuses, then after all the pictures can be stitched. The device does a very decent panorama, it is worth noting that it turns out to be an order of magnitude better than other budget devices.

Videos can be shot in FHD, frame rate - 30 per second. The sound level on the video is decent, but the focusing automatically works poorly. there is slow-motion mode, the deceleration is carried out four times. Selfie camera with a size of 5 megapixels, the pictures are good. Traditionally, there is an image enhancement mode (retouching).

Performance and autonomy

Meizu M5 Note is powered by mediaTek processor with eight cores... The company liked this processor so much that the M5 Note is already the fifth phone of the brand on this platform. This is not surprising, thanks to the differentiation of cores by frequency, the phone works comfortably for any tasks: if it is not loaded, then four weak cores work, if the user is going to play, then more productive cores are turned on. Due to this, the phone keeps charging quite well, does not heat up and works quickly.

Important! The installed processor will not cope with heavy games, more precisely, it is able to reproduce them, but at the same time it will start to get very hot, which is uncomfortable given the metal case.

The Meizu M5 Note reviews put a lot of emphasis on the battery. Her the capacity is 4000mAh. Many people still believe that this is a lot, but in fact, such a battery allows a smartphone to work under loads for a day, but nothing more. For the test on the device, a video without sound was launched, and all wireless interfaces... The result is 8 hours.

During games, the battery drains on average by 20% in one hour. If we talk about more mundane use, then the device will last a couple of days of work. In the description for the phone, you can see what is support for fast charging and this option is supplied in the kit. Plus - it charges 100% in 1.5 hours, minus - it's almost impossible to use the phone at this time, since it gets very hot.

Conclusion

Meizu M5 Note is quality smartphone with a good build, nice display, user-friendly interface and interesting camera modes. Minuses:

  • the device cannot be called very powerful, and it will not work for avid gamers;
  • the phone gets very hot while charging;
  • the camera shoots well under certain conditions.

You can buy a model, but you should understand that the phone, although it is a good alternative to its competitors, is not considered a leader among them.
