Perhaps the following articles will be interesting for you.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs on OS Google android 3.1 Honeycomb. On top of the OS, as in all Samsung devices, there is a proprietary TouchWiz interface.

The tablet desktop consists of five screens, on which you can install the desired widgets. By default, the desktops are displayed: news, weather - this widget was developed in collaboration with AccuWeather.com, branded Samsung Social Hub for social networks and mail, the "Agenda" widget - it is synchronized with the online google calendar and the Yahoo Finance widget.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - TouchWiz desktop interface

All of the above takes up three desktops, so two more can be safely filled with anything. However, nothing prevents you from throwing out all of the above and organizing the applications the way you need it.

I swore not to mention Apple in this review, since everyone has their own point of view on the competition between these two manufacturers, and I have not yet seen a single sympathizer for one brand or another who could be recruited and lured to the opposite side, but apparently not work out. I have a feeling that does not pass, like a toothache, that Samsung has set itself a super task - to blur the aura of Apple products. To make all the proprietary gadgets of the Cupertino company a common place in the industry and thereby deprive it of perhaps its most important advantage. And along this very specific path, the company is taking a quick and sweeping step.

So in Galaxy Tab 10.1, we see elements that do not exactly resemble - one to one they look like the same in iPad, iPad2 and other products on Mac OS and iOS. And the user, even if he feels a feeling of light déjà vu, eventually comes to a simple thought - well, someone once thought of making a wheel round, not square. Now what? Why doesn't everyone start using round wheels, if it's elementary more convenient?

We have already said that in the Galaxy Tab you will not find either a slot for a memory card or a standard USB port, and a special proprietary connector is used for charging, which looks very similar to that of Apple devices.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is not a USB device port

There are similar things in operating system: in particular, there is a pop-up block with icons at the bottom of the screen. This block is very similar to the one in Mac OS.

As for the controls, they look like this. In the lower left corner of the screen, we see four buttons: "Back", "Home", "Active applications" and "Screenshot".

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - navigation menu

The presence of a button for screenshots made me very happy, because up to this point, getting a screenshot in a device based on Google Android required either installing additional software, or going through the so-called "rutting" procedure, that is, getting full access to the system, in fact - its hacking. And don't think that screenshots are a vital necessity for journalists and observers. Quite often there are situations when the user has to fix some kind of bug, crash, just important information... So screenshots are good and useful. The only touch is that they cannot be done everywhere.

There is a very important block in the lower right corner of the screen. If you click on the notification area, the services window will open. It contains messages about active applications, about downloads, switches for various functions, a message about the connection to the network, about the signal strength and a battery indicator. And here is just a screenshot of this window regular means you cannot do it, it collapses as soon as you click on any part of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - services window

Let's go upstairs. The upper left corner is purely Google's story. Here we see shortcuts to the usual google search and google apps Voice Search.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - search menu

In this sense, the upper right corner is much more meaningful - there is a button to go to the list of applications, as well as a button to call the desktop control panel - the + icon.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - App Box

Applications

The section contains two tabs: one contains icons of all applications installed in the system, the other contains those applications that the user has installed independently. There is also a button to go to the Android Market - in the right upper corner.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - application list

The desktop control panel is very impressive: here you can select the application or widget of interest and send it to one or another desktop screen - full-featured desktop thumbnails are at the top of the screen. Here you can also change the background - you can choose between regular wallpapers and "live" ones. In principle, the interface of this part of the tablet is typical for the Google Android 3.1 OS, but since we have practically not reviewed the devices operating under this system before, it was decided to talk about it in more detail.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - widget control panel

We talked about where applications live - it's time to tell what applications are in the system. Let's start with the main thing - with mail, which is the main and only user ID of the Android device. So if you don't have an account on this service yet, you will have to create one. Without it, it is almost impossible to fully use devices on Google Android.

The system has a Social Hub widget that collects all incoming information streams. From there, the user can log into Gmail or another webmail, into his Facebook account, there is support for Twitter and LinkedIn. All posts in in social networks are collected in a single stream, all messages (mail and private messages in social networks) are aggregated in a separate tab. Quite convenient.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Social Hub Widget

In addition, the system also has a separate widget for Gmail, so if you don't want to bother with the hub, you can only use mail.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Gmail widget

But, in my opinion, the hub is more convenient. Including due to the fact that the feeds of messages and posts on the desktop are divorced and thus personal and public cannot be confused. Both the widget and the hub are quite convenient, the setup is intuitive, it took no more than a minute. Of the minuses of working with mail and social networks, I did not like the fact that it is not always possible to take a picture with a camera from the application. It's still pretty important for social media.

Browser

The system has a standard Android browser, which in my memory almost for the first time received all the full functionality of a desktop Google chrome... It has support for everything you might need: tabs, bookmarks, RSS.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - browser

There is also a call panel so beloved by many with icons of the most popular sites, which appears when you create a new tab. This browser is almost the first time since the start of using the Google Android OS did not make me want to immediately run to the Android Market and download Opera.

Photo and video

As already mentioned, the system has two cameras: front and main. Front-camera simpler - 2 megapixels, the main one - 3.2 megapixels, which, to put it mildly, is not very much, and in general the photos are quite mediocre.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - main camera, sample pictures

On the other hand, taking pictures outdoors with a tablet feels pretty weird. I felt weirder only a year ago at the presentation of the first Samsung tablet - Galaxy Tab, which was equipped with a module for voice communication and was then worth crazy money. And when you hold this gadget to your ear to talk on the phone ... people start to bypass you. However, this is a lyrical digression.

Returning to the camera, we can say that its interface is proprietary and does not differ in any way from what can be found in any Google phone. Although, as it seemed to me, there are more settings in this version.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - camera interface

In addition, there is the possibility to even take panoramas, which is definitely very cool. Although the picture quality here leaves much to be desired.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - panorama

As for the parameters, the main camera is equipped with autofocus and flash, can shoot in macro mode and in motion (there is a special preset), the maximum resolution for photography is 2048x1536.

The video is shot in a resolution of 1280x720, that is, HD 720p, the video is encoded with the Mpeg4 codec into a 3GP container.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - camcorder interface

All the images obtained, both from cameras and all others in the tablet's memory, are collected in one section, where you can comfortably work with them. The user has the ability to sort pictures by a whole set of different parameters, here and sorting by albums, here are the tags, and the time and place of creation.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Image Manager

A special menu allows you to transfer photos to various services: SMS, Gmail, Picasa, regular mail client, Bluetooth, etc.

Personally, I was very pleased with the ability to edit images. You can cut the desired fragment from the picture, change the size, apply a variety of effects and much more.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Photo Editor

I really liked that this application has the ability to work both with images from the archive and with those that have just been taken - thanks to the camera call button, the user can take a picture and immediately process it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Selecting Image Source

Multimedia

The Chukchi is not only a writer, but also a reader, so a video on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is possible, and given the magnificent PLS-screen, it should be watched. In my opinion, the player built into the system is very successful. It directly out of the box supports MPEG-4, Xvid, DivX, H.263 and H.264 codecs, video can be in AVI, WMV, M4V, MP4 and even MKV containers, that is, "matryoshka". There is only one rather serious limitation on MKV: heavy videos - 720p and 1080p - noticeably slow down, so it's better to choose other containers for viewing them.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - video player

The player also works with Russian subtitles without problems, for which he - the player - is a separate plus in karma.

Music playback is also at a good level, the audio player supports all more or less modern formats, it is possible to clearly sort the content, but what else is needed? Speakers or headphones. There is a 3.5 mm jack for headphones, the headphones themselves are included. There are also a couple of speakers on the case. Sound quality? Appropriate.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - audio player

Work with text

In addition to all of the above, devices of such a plan should be able to work with documents and books. Let's talk about books separately, and as for documents, the developer preinstalled the Polaris Office package, which allows you to work with files Microsoft Office... At the first launch of the package, it is proposed to register to receive further bonuses, but I ignored this matter. Perhaps this is the reason why I absolutely did not like Polaris Office. It does not work well with Cyrillic. Dot. When editing the text, extra spaces appear, some additional artifacts, etc. And the editor's functions are rather poor.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Text Editor

But what pleased me was the keyboard. She is exactly what she should be. Usually I change the keyboard to a more comfortable one, but here I didn't even think about it. The Russian and English layouts are well spaced, the same can be said about the digital layout. There is even a separate block with emoticons. Solid five.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - keyboard layouts

As for books, the system has an application Zinio for buying and reading electronic newspapers and magazines, mostly in English. There is also another store - BookReader, where Russian products are sold, but mostly in txt format.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Book Reader Apps

On smartphones, I usually use FBReader, which is pretty handy, and on Galaxy Tab 10.1, I tried the Cool Reader app, which I really liked.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - Cool Reader app

Settings

Another block that made me very happy. It is made very visually, everything is in its place. Evil tongues are talking about Apple again, but we will ignore it.

Autonomy

The tablet comes with a 7000 mAh removable Li-Pol battery, which allows the manufacturer to promise up to 1840 hours when using a 3G connection. In reality, we have 7-8 hours of watching videos in decent quality and about 10-11 hours of active surfing the Internet using 3G and Wi-Fi. Galaxy Tab 10.1 charges in 3-4 hours from zero to 100%, for this it is recommended to use the standard charger... It is for this reason, according to Samsung, that they were forced to abandon the USB port, they say, the battery is powerful and uSB standard will not allow it to be charged quickly and fully. And cluttering the edges of the case with a bunch of different ports is kind of not solid. Well, so be it, especially since even with a non-standard connector, the tablet is easily detected by the computer as an external medium and for this it does not need any Kies and the like iTunes.

Communications

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 supports the following communications:

  • GPRS / 3G (3G is not available in all delivery options!)
  • Wi-Fi (b / g / n)
  • Bluetooth 3.0 (A2DP profile)
  • USB 2.0

It is worth noting that the SIM card installed in the tablet is intended only for data transmission and for SMS. For voice communication, you can use any of the many VoIP services of which there are many.

conclusions

Samsung has got a very solid device that can compete on an equal footing with Apple. And it is this circumstance, apparently, that it is worth explaining the ongoing litigation between manufacturers. Today, a tablet costs up to 24 thousand rubles, which is a bit expensive. However, Samsung devices tend to drop in price quite quickly, so in a few months the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will cost 19-21 thousand, and it will be right. For this money, the user will receive a high-performance device with an excellent screen and an almost flawless operating system.

Of the minuses, it is worth noting only the still rather dubious decision to abandon the USB port, since now all mobile world goes along the path of unification of connectors, and increased smudging of the screen: after half an hour of use, it looked as if it was eaten on it. And from the software features I was confused by the very strange function of adjusting the screen brightness. She lives her own separate life, and I almost immediately turned it off by manually setting the brightness.

The first way

This method is suitable for models without a mechanical Home button (bottom center).

To take a screenshot, at the same time press and hold the "Volume Down" and "Power" buttons for one or two seconds.

On Galaxy Note 10/10+ at the same time press the same buttons, but only briefly.

Second way

This method is suitable for models with a mechanical Home button (bottom center).

To take a screenshot, at the same time press and hold the Home and Power buttons for one or two seconds.

Third way

In addition to the first two methods, you can take a screenshot with your palm, but this function is not available on all devices. For more information, see the article "How to take a screenshot with the palm of your hand".

How to know if a screenshot has been taken

A special icon will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.

Where to find screenshots

You can view the screenshots you have taken in the Gallery or My Files application. They are located in the Pictures / Screenshots or Pictures / ScreenCapture folder.

If no way works

If you can't take a screenshot, try holding the buttons longer. Don't forget: buttons must be pressed at the same time... If you take a screenshot for the first time, it can only work the third or fourth time.

If none of the methods fit, then:

  • The smartphone or tablet was made by another manufacturer. To find out how to take a screenshot, contact your device manufacturer for help;
  • Non-original firmware installed on smartphone or tablet. To take screenshots, contact service center Samsung to change the firmware.
  • This device is a fake. Many functions of original devices do not work on fakes.

I'll show you how to set up new tablet or an Android smartphone. If you bought it brand new or reset all settings. I will show the setting using the example of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite tablet.

After the first start, select the interface language and click Next.

Now select your Wi-Fi network for setup, synchronization and creation of google account and other needs.

Enter the password from your Wi-Fi networksto enter it and click "connect".

If the notification “The network does not support data on date and time. Set the values \u200b\u200bmanually in the date and time parameters ”, this only means that you will need to manually set the date and time later (sometimes you can do it automatically using the network). Click Yes.

You will be presented with the date and time settings. Set the date and time by specifying the current time and year and press the "home" button (this is the button located in the center of your tablet or smartphone to return to setting.

So, having connected to your Wi-Fi network, click "next".

Now you can adjust the date and time, enter your time zone, if you haven't already, then click "next".

If you have a smartphone or tablet from samsungthen now accept terms of use by ticking the box "I understand and agree to the above terms and conditions." Then put a full stop on the box "Yes" or "No", this means that you agree that with each update failure software your device you will provide to the company Samsung datacontained in the error log.

Now you can create account Samsung, which allows you to use their cloud storage, store and other additional features. But if you don't want to do this, just click "skip".

I clicked "Yes", since there is already and now I need to enter email Google account and password.

By signing in, you agree to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and the chrome privacyas well as the Terms using google Play. If you do not want to receive news from Google play, then uncheck "I want to receive newsletters from Google Play".
Click OK.

If you have two-step authentication connected to your Google account, which I wrote about earlier in the article, then you will see a notification "Not signed in." To access your account, you must sign in on the web. Touch Next to start browser sign-in. Which means: “To log into your account, you must log in to the network via the web. Tap Next to start authorization using your browser.

Your number will receive an SMS with a code, enter it to confirm the login to your Google account.

Login starts. We are waiting for its completion.

Now you are prompted to enter billing information into your Google account, what to buy paid apps at Play Market eg. You can buy through a credit / debit card or through a Megafon or Beeline account (if you have a SIM card from these operators), you cannot pay for purchases in the Play Market through MTS.
Click to continue. Or you can skip setting up billing data and click "Not now" at the bottom left.

If you have chosen a Megafon or Beeline account, then the account will be verified. Sending an SMS message to verify your account via your mobile operator.

But due to the fact that an SMS came to this tablet, I could not look at it, since at the time of the first setup it is still impossible to go to the home screen and open the SMS application. Therefore, you can bind mobile number to the Google Play Market later when you need to buy something there.

Backup and recovery.

Use Google account to back up apps, settings (such as bookmarks and passwords for points wi-Fi access) and other data. If you already have a backup of your account, you can restore it to your tablet.
You can change the backup settings in the "settings" menu.
If you want to transfer your data from your Google account to this device and create backup data of this tablet in my google account, then leave the checkboxes and click on the "right arrow" icon (bottom right).

Recovery. Your Tablet PC contacts Google to recover your account. This may take several minutes.

Google geolocation. Determine location using Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
You can uncheck the box next to Allow anonymous location data to be sent and stored on your device, and you can also let apps determine it using Google's geolocation service.

Allow Google to use my location. You can also uncheck the box next to Allow PS Data and Google Location Services even when Google Apps are not active.
These parameters can be changed later in the settings.
Click on the "right arrow" icon (bottom right).

Next, you are prompted to create or use and connect it to your device a Dropbox account ( cloud storage). On samsung device you get a free Dropbox account with 50GB of storage for two years.
Dropbox automatically saves your photos and videos online and on computers you link it to.
