12 years have passed since its release. During this period, the Apple company managed to develop and release more than two dozen models of communicators. We invite you to recall together the chronology of iPhone smartphone releases, noting the characteristic differences of each device.

iPhone 2G or which iPhone was released in 2007

In January 2007, Apple introduced its first communicator - iPhone 2G, – differs from competitors’ products in its stylish design and powerful hardware and software content.

The work of the Cupertino team was appreciated - the Apple company's smartphone has achieved significant popularity in the mobile device market.

If you ever happen to come across this now-rare model, you will be able to identify it by the following features: the device has small dimensions, a 3.5-inch diagonal display, a black front panel and a silver metal cover with a black plastic insert. The RAM of this little miracle was only 128 MB, while the amount of flash memory depended on the configuration and ranged from 4 to 16 GB.

Legendary iPhone presentation 2G from Steve Jobs:

iPhone 3GS, or which iPhone was released in 2009

For the first time, a smartphone model with the mysterious letter “S” in the name is being released. Apple, wanting to maintain intrigue, refuses to give a decoding of the symbol, but after eight years we can assume that this mysterious “S” is an abbreviation for “Special” or “Second edition”. The iPhone 3GS model differs from the 3G mainly in hardware and software update and the appearance of a version with 32 GB of internal memory. You can distinguish the new product from its predecessor only by the markings on the back panel: the 2008 device has a matte marking color, while the 2009 gadget has bright white.

iPhone 4, or which iPhone came out in 2010

This year, the smartphone form factor was significantly redesigned for the first time. The iPhone 4 model was created in a new stylish design, received Retina display 3.5-inch and, according to tradition, was equipped with the latest hardware and updated software. The color scheme of the devices remained the same: gadgets were produced only in black and white.

iPhone 4 has become the latest smartphone Apple, which was introduced by Steve Jobs.

iPhone 4s, or which iPhone was released in 2011

In 2011, the iPhone 4s smartphone was released. This model is almost identical in appearance to the previous one, the gadgets differ only in the number of antennas for receiving signals and their location: the iPhone 4 has three of them, with one located on the upper end of the device, and the iPhone 4s has four of these elements and they are located symmetrically on the side edges. Also this year, a configuration with 64 GB of internal memory on board is available.

iPhone 5, or which iPhone came out in 2012

2012 was marked by the appearance of the iPhone 5. And again there was a change in design, the display increased from 3.5 to 4 inches, the back glass panel was replaced by a metal one, a Lightning connector and nano SIM support were added.

iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, or which iPhones were released in 2013

Contrary to tradition, two models are being released at once: iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. Innovations in the first model are limited to hardware improvements to the iPhone 5, additional options colors and plastic case.

As for the iPhone 5s smartphone, its design has hardly changed compared to its predecessor, but an important element has appeared - the Touch ID fingerprint scanner built into the Home button.

iPhone 6, or which iPhone came out in 2014

This year, Apple management decided to release two smartphone models in parallel: a regular one and one with a larger screen diagonal. The presentation featured the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Changes were made to the design again, the features of the devices became softer, more streamlined, and new color options were added.

iPhone 6s, or which iPhone was released in 2015

In 2015, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were released. Externally, they can be distinguished from the previous year’s models only by the letter “S” engraved on the back panel. Among the seemingly inconspicuous, but important features of the new products, we can mention the presence of a screen with 3D Touch technology (sensitive to pressure).

iPhone SE, iPhone 7, or which iPhones came out in 2016

At the beginning of 2016, the iPhone SE smartphone unexpectedly appeared, the design of which was borrowed from the iPhone 5s, and the hardware from the iPhone 6s.

You can distinguish the new product from the 2013 model by the engraved “SE” sign on the back panel of the gadget.

In the fall of 2016, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released. Externally, they are not particularly different from the previous year’s models, except that once again new colors have been added.

In addition, the iPhone 7 Plus received a main dual camera.

A characteristic feature of the new products is the absence of a 3.5 mm audio jack and the movement of the signal reception antennas to the ends of the devices. Plus, a configuration with 256 GB of internal memory has become available.

ON THIS TOPIC:

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus released in 2017

Already a few months before the presentation of smartphones in 2017, it was known that Apple would for the first time show three devices at once - a flagship with top-end specifications and unique features, and also as a logical continuation of the line of 4.7- and 5.5-inch devices.

The event took place at the company's new headquarters. The heads of Apple divisions speaking on stage maintained the illusion of intrigue until the very end, and the audience tried not to yawn in anticipation of “One more thing.” However, Phil Schiller managed to attract the attention of those gathered to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus from the first seconds of his speech.

The main feature of the G8 design was the glass back panel, which made it possible to implement the function wireless charging. Otherwise, the appearance of smartphones has remained virtually unchanged compared to 2016, and only a rare case from the iPhone 6 will not fit the iPhone 8.

How does the iPhone 8 differ externally from previous models iPhone

In addition, the palette of cases was reduced from six to three colors - silver, gold and space grey.

The performance of the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus is once again ensured by the evolved processor of Apple's own design. The A10 Fusion was replaced by the 70% faster 6-core A11 Bionic, and the M11 Motion co-processor replaced the predecessor M10. The graphics chip has also been updated - the iPhone 8 uses the first GPU created by Apple engineers, which is 30% more efficient than the iPhone 7.

The screen, cameras and peripheral modules have changed minimally. We can highlight the technology already mentioned above, the 4-LED flash of the main camera, Bluetooth 5.0, the function, which is a system that adapts the screen glow to the ambient lighting.

Manufacturers of mobile phones, smartphones and communicators have taught us that the new is almost always very different from the old. The new device should have a number of very serious differences. It is best to be visible from afar. New design, new functions, new services, accessories, new everything. When we wait for an announcement from a company, we expect some kind of breakthrough and are upset when it doesn’t happen. If this new flagship then give us unique design. Give us a new form factor. We are bored, we want something new and new. Naturally, at the time when the announcement related to the iPhone 3Gs began, everyone already understood everything, but did not fully believe that the company would dare to present the same thing, only with a different operating speed. Well, what is it, can you see it, can you boast about it, are these the “beads” we are used to? Is this a familiar subject for discussion on forums and with friends? No, not at all. It was unusual when someone doesn't do like everyone else and doesn't "roll out" a line of three different devices, for different audiences, but does something completely different. With what? Well, for example, by bringing to life the existing operating system used in both phones and players. iPhone update OS 3.0 brought so much to Apple devices that another manufacturer would have turned it into huge black marketing noise. Another company would have presented a whole line with new firmware. But Apple has a different approach - every user of even the very first iPhone, even the first Touch can get many new features for free or for money. Control playback by shaking, work with wireless stereo headsets, excellent search, flawless copy&paste, work in modem mode without additional software with both Apple and Windows-based computers, and so on. The system is being updated constantly, hourly and nightly. But Apple is in no hurry to rivet a whole range of different devices; apparently, they understand a simple thing. All you have to do is scatter your energy, start fiddling with different segments - that’s it, the house is gone. Going after the fans and geeks who demand QWERTY, OLED displays, 64 gigabytes of memory is also the road to the bright kingdom called “nowhere”, not the mass market.

As a result, iPhone 3Gs, if we talk about our country, was far from being in favor. The model is not officially sold here; it is very expensive on the gray market, and there is no understanding of what to pay for. In addition, through the efforts of people who persistently instilled a love for the first generation iPhone on various forums, this device turned into a kind of vulgar object either for a blonde or for a certain character in a fashion chronicle. A number of friends have no idea what else can be done with this thing, besides making calls and listening to music. There are many stereotypes that no one can break. I often hear extremely funny statements about the device, obviously from people who have never used the device. For some reason, some people believe that in our country the use of the Apple brand affects changes in sexual orientation, they especially like to talk about this Windows users Mobile. I don’t even know what to do for me, a married man with a child, the owner of an iPhone, two MacBooks, an Apple TV and iPod Classic. I can’t say that I look at representatives of my own sex or dream about rhinestones, tight clothes, and so on. Apparently, this is an attempt to humiliate the gadget minority in response to the frequent attempts of this very minority to aggressively instill their tastes and views on technology. Yes, this happens too. As soon as a fifteen-year-old teenager becomes the owner of an iPod Shuffle, he immediately becomes aware of his importance and difference, which results in a huge number of meaningless discussions, disputes, wars, and so on.

In addition, as I said earlier, with the appearance on sale official iPhone 3G, many lost interest in the mysterious overseas toy. You don’t have to worry about unlocking or installing special software, take it and use it, the programs are available in the AppStore, they’re cheap, you can pay with a debit card - happiness. Once what I call the “dungeon children syndrome” disappeared, the debate died down, the discussions died down, and many sites entirely dedicated to the iPhone disappeared. The second wave with the arrival of the iPhone 3Gs, which is not officially on sale here yet, did not happen precisely for the reasons stated above. iPhone 3G users don’t understand what’s wrong with this, for which they have to pay about thirty thousand rubles or more. Interest has subsided, the fashion has passed, so now you can more or less calmly communicate with representatives of other camps or with seasoned users of the iPhone 2G, the “true iPhone” for all times. As for fashion, indeed, many avoid buying this device precisely because it is too common. I don’t even remember how many times I found myself in a party where every second person had such a device, you can’t help but wonder if I shouldn’t make some kind of exotic thing my main one?

Therefore, I would not like this material to become some kind of subject for controversy or war. In Russia, I believe, there is already a community of users of Apple technology; many people choose the company’s products not only for their design and differences, but also for their capabilities, some of which are not found in other devices. For example, if we talk about the iPhone, then these are the following points, I will list them:

You can argue about mail; I didn’t write about some other applications. For example, this is “Clock”, it’s nice to use an alarm clock here; there has never been a case where the alarm did not go off. I also said nothing about the AppStore; in general, I just don’t want to argue, so I only settled on, in my opinion, the best. There are also negative aspects, some of which will be critical for many:

  • The need to use iTunes to transfer music, movies, photos, synchronize with Outlook and so on. There are also a number of very strange restrictions - by default, your device is “locked” to only one computer, this is not very cool.
  • Not good big time work with active use, in my case it’s a day and a half in standby mode.
  • A number of small points: when using several mailboxes with a minimum verification interval set, it is difficult to reach you by phone; some people do not like the fact that all banners are not displayed in the browser. And, of course, multitasking is a key drawback for which the iPhone is often criticized. For example, you cannot launch ICQ, then close it without losing the connection. No, when you click the button, the program simply closes, then you need to start it again. We have been hearing promises to add multitasking for quite some time, but so far things are still there. To be more precise, it exists as such; you can, for example, listen to music and use a browser.
  • In fact, it turns out that it is best to use the iPhone paired with the included headset; choosing headphones to improve sound quality is difficult. This is a VERY subjective opinion. Here we are talking not only about sound quality, but also about using the headset in general.
  • Microcracks on the case near the mute lever, SIM card slot, of the three iPhone 3G samples, each suffered from this flaw. Almost invisible, not affecting the work in any way, but still their presence is a little annoying. I note that the iPhone 2G had another problem: if not handled very carefully, the case easily becomes covered with scratches and abrasions. But to the credit of the device, I note that it is very difficult to “kill” it. My friend’s phone fell while she was swinging, crashed into a pole, flew several meters and fell on concrete. Mangled, crumpled, with broken glass, the iPhone continued to work. For several thousand rubles, they replaced the case, a bunch of batteries, and some other parts - that’s all, practically a new device.

So, I feel that for three pages now I have been talking about something completely different from what you want to hear about. So, what's good about the iPhone 3Gs? What's new? Should I consume it or should I not? Go ahead, let's figure it out. I believe that you already know very well what the iPhone comes with, so I will dwell on the main innovations, plus I will answer some questions that were asked to me.

Design is still the same

Visually distinguishing iPhone 3Gs from iPhone 3G is almost impossible, because there are no changes in appearance. Dimensions are 115.2x62.1x12.3 mm, weight - 133 grams. The device is still convenient to carry in your pocket; according to the company, the plastic used is different, more environmentally friendly. Let's hope that microcracks will not appear over time.

Display – does not get dirty

The iPhone 3Gs has a very interesting display, in the sense that it has an interesting coating that protects it from fat deposits. This is a real problem for the iPhone 3G; after long conversations, especially in the heat, the phone should definitely be wiped down. And it’s not a fact that you can do this efficiently with an ordinary paper napkin; it’s better to use a suede or microfiber cloth. The green “miracle rag” also helps, look for it in stores, it’s suitable for any equipment in general, I really like it.

So, a simple test: two clean devices, run a freshly washed finger across iPhone display 3G. There is a trace. We move our finger across the iPhone 3Gs display. There is essentially no trace. The display seems very smooth, like an ice skating rink, a completely different feeling compared to 3G. During use, this moment is very pleasing. Naturally, the back varnished surface quickly becomes covered with fingerprints, but getting the display too dirty is problematic. It gets dirty, yes, but it's not very noticeable, easy to remove, and doesn't look terrible. I think any 3G user will appreciate the innovation, especially if he constantly uses the device.

By the way, about the case, packaging and delivery set. By and large, nothing has changed, everything is the same as with 3G. I can’t say anything about microcracks; I’ve only had the iPhone 3Gs for about a week.

Updated headset

Actually, the update here is minimal, it is now possible to adjust the volume directly from the remote control on the cable, this is convenient; previously you had to take out your phone or feel for the buttons in your pocket. This is another advantage of the iPhone, because we have a very small but full-fledged remote control, with its help you can stop and start playback, rewind songs back and forth, and adjust the volume. There are no surprises in terms of sound quality; with the included headphones, the iPhone 3Gs demonstrates good capabilities for daily use. Not for audiophiles, not for those who are used to listening to music alone - at full volume with this headset everyone around you will hear you. A reason to change it to something else... But you’re unlikely to find anything as convenient for both conversations and music. It's a pity that we don't sell Motorola EH series headsets.

Speed – yes

Changing the processor was not in vain; the prefix “S” here just means speed (Sport? Speed?). The device works faster, but how is this noticeable, how is it expressed? Perhaps only in comparison with the iPhone 3G can you understand the difference. To do this, let's put both devices side by side, connect to Wi-Fi and start launching different applications simultaneously. Immediately comes the understanding of what was meant by the letter “S”. Click on the Safari icon, for 3Gs it has already launched, a page has opened, for 3G it is still launching. Let's open YouTube - the 3Gs has already opened a list of videos, you can select and launch the one you want, the 3G still launches it. Let's open the AppStore - the same thing. Let's open the "Calculator" - it opens at the same time. The conclusion here is simple: iPhone 3Gs works much faster with heavy applications. At the request of readers, I conducted an experiment with ICQ (several open sessions) and a running player. Indeed, if you do this trick on an iPhone 3G, the work becomes slow and completely uninteresting. If we talk about 3Gs, then heaven and earth – no “brakes”, everything is very fast. Messages are sent instantly, the list of subscribers is quickly loaded, and a mini-player is displayed (press the multifunction key twice quickly).

Comparison of operating speed with Apple iPhone 3G

Overall in terms of speed iPhone work 3Gs is extremely interesting and much preferable to 3G. But there are a number of key points about changing one to the other. If you are with using iPhone just call and listen to music, use simple applications like “Clock”, then there is no point in updating for you. Moreover, only an iPhone 3G user will appreciate the speed of operation; he has something to compare with. If installing applications, using a browser, mail, watching YouTube, using third party applications, then taking a closer look at 3Gs is not only possible, but also necessary. Especially if you don’t want to switch to another brand.

What kind of processor is used in the iPhone 3Gs? Not long ago, a device called ODROID was announced, which uses the same processor as the iPhone 3Gs (at least that's what the press materials say). Additional searches brings us to the Samsung S5PC100. In light of this, there are rumors about the imminent release of an update for the iPhone 3Gs, which will support high-definition video. Moreover, this solution the best way It is also suitable for games, I think that in 2009 we will still have a lot of surprises in this regard.

Opening hours are not good

The operating time of the iPhone 3Gs, in my opinion, remains unchanged. I specifically did not look at the official data, but simply used the device in normal mode. For me, the usual mode is constantly checking three mailboxes, using a browser, music, Wi-Fi and Push turned on, about an hour of talk a day. Actually, by late afternoon the charge indicator bar had decreased by more than half, and the iPhone was charging all night. He spent the evening and night in quiet mode, only occasional calls and SMS, mail, Wi-Fi was turned off. And already in the morning, at about nine in the morning, a message appeared on the screen about ten percent of the battery charge. I didn’t bother any further, I connected the USB cable. In general, don't count on for a long time work. The matter, in principle, can be fixed; there are a lot of accessories for the device on the market, including cases with a battery, and so on.

I completely forgot, another interesting feature in 3Gs is the ability to enable the display of battery charge as a percentage. A useful thing; previously, in order to see the percentages, you had to “break” the device programmatically.

Compass

There is a compass. I don’t quite understand what’s wrong with this, I guess I have to go mushroom hunting with the iPhone 3Gs to appreciate it. If I suddenly get lost and don’t come back, it means the testing failed.

As faithful comrades suggest, a compass is not just a compass, but a kind of thing for introducing “augmented reality technology.” For example, I recommend looking at the website of the Acrossair program, where both a compass and a camera are used to indicate the direction towards the nearest metro. This is just an example, but the possibilities are impressive - for a pedestrian suffering from topographic cretinism, this is a godsend.

In the compass settings you can select magnetic or true north (I don’t know why), the coordinates are displayed, and you can immediately go to the map.

Nike+iPod

A corresponding item has appeared right in the settings, that is, the iPhone 3Gs can work with the Nike+iPod Bluetooth sensor and the original watch without installing additional software. I'm still going to buy myself a Nike with this functionality, there is a person on our forum who has been using this product for a long time (ZenPC, hello). I believe that in the fall we will write an article together about this side of the device. For now, in order not to bloat the material, I will limit myself to praising this functionality; it is a useful addition for morning and evening runners.

Three megapixels

The camera module has been changed, now it is 3 megapixels instead of two. You can evaluate the quality of the pictures yourself, I’ll just say that for a three-ruble note this is a more than normal result. A switch lever for shooting video (VGA, 30 fps) has appeared in the camera menu, and you can also evaluate the videos yourself. Naturally, these are not key features for the iPhone, but you can shoot masterpieces, you just need a normally configured tool called the “head”. For example, Flickr has a community called Photos taken with an Apple iPhone. There are more than seventy thousand photographs, there are incredibly beautiful shots, and you won’t think that they were taken with something other than a photographic phone. In addition, there are a number third party programs for editing, adding effects, drawing and so on.

To summarize: as always, it's not about megapixels, but only about your skills.

Oops, I forgot the most important thing. In the iPhone 3Gs, it became possible to manually set the focus point: click on the desired area - the focus moves there, everything is very fast and clear. This is typical for both photos and videos. This is such a nice little thing.

Voice control

A “European” iPhone 3Gs took part in the testing, this moment this is the most the best option for purchase (and the most expensive). No need for unlocking and so on, insert your SIM card and get started. There is nothing to worry about the software part, in the settings you can set both the Russian language and the Russian keyboard, in general, even now this uncertified device is completely ready for the services of any person, even not familiar with English language. One of the very important features of the iPhone 3Gs is the presence voice control, it starts when you long press the button under the display (aka “home”). In the settings you can select the voice control language, there are many languages there. So what can you do and how does it work? Let's start with the features:

  • When dialing a subscriber’s number, you must say “Call, Julia,” for example. This is not to say that everything is rosy; a lot depends on how you pronounce the word. Some contacts are dialed the first time, some are not dialed at all, as if they don’t exist. I believe that optimization has not yet been carried out here; when typing in English, everything is an order of magnitude better.
  • A set of numbers, you need to say “Number, eight nine zero and so on.” There are no questions at all, it works perfectly, everything is fine.
  • There are a lot of commands for the player, you can use your voice to start or pause playback, turn on Shuffle mode, make the player play similar songs (Genius), turn on such and such an album or playlist. Even when I wrote about VoiceOver in the iPod Shuffle, I suggested something similar in the iPhone - here it is, a clear confirmation. Voice control works fine, as long as we don’t talk about long names, for example, many of my mixes are called that way. The device copes with ordinary albums without difficulty, as long as there is a relatively short and clear title, an understandable album, and a playlist. Let's say I have playlists “Morning”, “Day”, “Evening” - there are no questions here, great.

If the subscriber name you named is not entirely clear or several similar names are found, the device will warn you about this and offer you to choose.

Surely there are still a number of improvements and changes to be made, but even in its current state the voice iPhone control 3Gs is extremely convenient in a number of cases, its availability and implementation are pleasing. True, there are no instructions here; on the display you see the names of commands; when you say a word, the waves “jump”, demonstrating that the device heard you. But guidance, in my opinion, is needed.

Voice control also works when using a headset. You can activate it with a long press of the multifunction button, just like with the iPod Shuffle - say a command, get an action. Interestingly, when using wired headset There are far fewer problems identifying a name in a notebook.

conclusions

Well, let's get down to the final chords. The new product from Apple cannot be called the “hottest” in 2009 or the most anticipated. This is a neat and logical continuation of the iPhone 3G with very strong differences, all of them extremely positive:

  • The speed of work has really increased greatly, making daily use much more pleasant, much more pleasant. This is especially true when working with heavy applications. Let's hope game developers use the hardware iPhone capabilities 3Gs to the fullest.
  • The display coating really protects you from tedious and time-consuming cleaning and makes the device tidier; I don't know how, but this thing works.
  • Headset with full remote control.
  • I liked the implementation of voice control, let's hope that recognition will work better in localized devices.
  • Nike+iPod, having this app out of the box is a nice addition.

The remaining additions, such as video and compass, are less important. Not many people shoot video on their phones, and besides, there were already apps for the iPhone that allowed you to do this trick. It’s good, of course, that this functionality is there initially, but it’s secondary here (to put it mildly).

So, first, a conclusion for iPhone 3G owners who do not want to switch to anything else. It's worth upgrading, you will feel the difference in the first hours of use. For example, it’s time for me to return the phone to the owners, and I’m thinking with horror about how I can switch back to the iPhone 3G. When, how and for how much to buy 3Gs is up to you, you can take a “European” one, you can wait for the start of official sales, it all depends on the amount in your wallet. You can, in the end, stay on 3G while waiting for new devices, but no one knows when that will be. I doubt that before mid-2010 there will be new model iPhone.

Conclusion for owners of other devices, smartphones or communicators. At the moment, iPhone 3Gs provides the owner with unique opportunities when it comes to working with a touch screen, web surfing, email is interesting and simple, and as a gaming platform, the iPhone has long surpassed all its competitors (if we talk about phones). Neither N-gage nor SE's gaming efforts can compare to what's happening with iPhone games. You can find a lot of good toys, many of them are extremely unusual and exciting. This is the first point. The second is the ability to watch videos, this includes YouTube, which works perfectly, considering the size of the display (3.5 inches, resolution 480x320 pixels) and the speed of operation, viewing becomes extremely pleasant. Third point: despite the apparent “non-corporate” nature, the iPhone may well become your faithful companion in business. For example, using Apple's MobileMe service, you get the ability to synchronize mail, calendar, contacts, and browser bookmarks between your laptop (in my case) and your phone. Thanks to it, you can use the iDisk program directly on your phone to store and view office documents and other files (including music). I’m not agitating anyone, but to say that the iPhone is “for ladies” and cannot perform some mysterious “business functions” is at least ridiculous.

Another thing is that I would not recommend this device for purchase to everyone. Let’s say, if your main tasks are to make calls and write SMS, then it’s hardly worth spending money on. I won’t recommend 3Gs to “current fashionistas” either - there are much more interesting new products for you, such as Nokia N97, Samsung i8910 and so on. Apple devices are no longer fashionable, they have been forgotten, they have passed, it’s time to understand this. And anyway, it was sold for nine thousand, ugh, a nightmare, cheap. For fashionistas, this is a nightmare and cannot be done. Also, under no circumstances should Windows Mobile adherents approach 3Gs - there’s nowhere to dig around, there’s nothing special to configure, so it’s not worth it. If you are interested, surfing from a mobile device is important, normal, beautiful mail, multimedia capabilities, convenience and speed are important, then yes, iPhone 3Gs is your choice.

Apple managed to do the impossible: not only penetrate into a seemingly already formed market, but also overturn a number of established foundations. For example, this is the constant development of an existing OS for a family of devices. And not abandoning it, inventing it new system, inventing new devices for a new system, finishing the new system, not everything worked out, abandoning it, inventing a new system, new devices, finishing it, abandoning it - ad infinitum. This is what some other companies do. The hint, I think, is clear. The appearance of the iPhone 3Gs, and not some kind of hellish mechanism in which everything is new, from hardware to interface, precisely demonstrates Apple’s approach in this area. Very reminiscent of the joke about a couple of bulls slowly descending a mountain.

The author expresses gratitude to the Icult.ru company for providing the device for testing. The “European” performed well, thank you (smiley).

It became a real test for Apple: in record time, the company had to solve many problems that arose when working with the first iPhone and develop a device that could conquer the most demanding mobile users, accustomed to the most modern technologies– for example, in Japan.

In just a year, Apple really managed to do this: the new iPhone 3G became one of the company's best products. However, he also had several shortcomings.

Design

The design of the iPhone is directly related to the presence of a large touch display, so reinventing the wheel and redesigning it new iPhone Apple didn't need 3G. The device is almost no different from the traditional iPhone, except, perhaps, for the greater width of the body and the reshaped back cover.

In addition, the device body is several millimeters thicker (12.3 mm versus 11.6 mm) due to the fact that the new iPhone supports GPS and 3G. The touchphone body is entirely made of high-quality glossy plastic.

Some may feel that compared to old iPhone, the body of which was distinguished by metal inserts, the new plastic iPhone 3G looks cheap. However, the unibody body of the new iPhone looks much more stylish and, moreover, fits more comfortably in the hand and does not slip out.

However, the plastic case may still be a problem for owners of a traditionally black iPhone (remember, the iPhone 3G came in black and white). The smooth black surface shows absolutely all fingerprints, and the case will lose its attractiveness in just a few days. The white model with 16 GB of memory is more expensive, but there will be fewer problems with the case.

Scratches can appear on the body of the new iPhone 3G just as easily as on any other plastic phone, so you should avoid placing the touchphone near sharp objects (for example, keys).

The main advantages of the new iPhone 3G:

  • The most convenient OS for Internet browsing and media
  • Availability of support for 3G networks
  • Improved sound quality
  • Changes in design make the phone more comfortable to hold in your hand
  • Phone functions have been significantly expanded thanks to new software

The main disadvantages of the iPhone 3G:

  • Using 3G has significantly reduced battery life, the phone requires almost daily recharging
  • Still no MMS or voice dialing
  • The camera leaves much to be desired
  • Black body shows fingerprints and scratches

    Contents of delivery

During music output iPod player To the market Apple company tried to complete the device with everything necessary in order to gain the favor of buyers and stand out among the numerous player manufacturers. Over time, the iPod's package became less and less impressive. Now it has come to the point that in the box with the player there is only USB cable and a cover. First iPhone generation went on sale with very good equipment - the box contained a power adapter and a stylish desktop docking station. This gave hope to fans of Apple products that Apple intends to pay more attention to the delivery package of its devices.

However, the iPhone 3G indicates that Apple continues to follow the previously beaten path - poorer equipment for more money. So, in the box with the iPhone 3G, the buyer will no longer find a stylish docking station, which is now offered separately for $29. The standard dock looks less presentable, but it takes up less space, which is a definite plus. In addition to the power adapter, the box with the Apple Phone contains regular stereo headphones and a USB cable.

    3G: the biggest improvement

One of the most significant innovations of the iPhone was 3G support. In addition, data transfer speeds in 2G networks have also increased. Average data transfer speed for owners original iPhone did not exceed 133 Kb/sec, which is only twice as much as dial-up. However, the data transfer speed of the new iPhone 3G is much higher and varies from 800 Kb/sec to 1.1 Mb/sec. It is worth noting, however, that these indicators very much depend on the capabilities of the mobile operator.

Internet surfing has become much more convenient thanks to increased speed. Of course, when accessing the Internet from an iPhone 3G, you won’t be able to forget about a high-speed network, but thanks not least to websites Safari browser– loads much faster. And the speed of working with email, even with attached files, is practically no different from the speed of checking email on a computer with a high-speed Internet connection.

It is worth mentioning third-party applications that are included in the iPhone and which actively use the high speed of Internet access with mobile phone– for example, MySpace Mobile and Twitter.

However, high speed data transfer of the new iPhone 3G in some cases may not seem like a very valuable innovation: Apple limited the amount of data downloaded from the App Store to programs smaller than 10 MB in size and provided access to the iTunes Store only via Wi-Fi. This was done primarily because mobile operators, who don't want to let owners of the new iPhone 3G download hundreds of megabytes without charging extra for it.

The obvious drawback of the iPhone is the battery life, which, due to 3G, leaves much to be desired: only 5 hours of talk time. However, for a device with such large display this figure, in comparison with other 3G devices, is above average. Those who frequently use communications will have to charge the phone at least once a day.

    Sound quality

After hearing a lot of complaints from iPhone owners about sound quality, Apple decided to fix this problem - the new iPhone 3G has significantly improved sound quality as one of the main improvements. This applies to both voice calls and music.

However, the iPhone 3G is not completely immune from the influence of extraneous noise. Therefore, if environmental noise is a constant problem, it is better to purchase a Bluetooth headset with noise suppression technology.

The quality of music and ringtones in the new device is high level, however, there is a risk of missing a call or text message as some ringtones sound a bit quiet.

The new iPhone 3G is the first Apple device to support GPS, and this inexperience, despite all the efforts of the company's developers, is still obvious.

To the greatest extent Availability of GPS will delight those who like to shoot with a mobile phone camera: the iPhone 3G provides the possibility of geotagging. In addition, GPS and users will appreciate Google Maps– you can determine your location in real time almost instantly and with high degree accuracy. In this iPhone 3G where better devices such as Nokia N95 and BlackBerry Curve, the process of determining the location of which sometimes takes more than a minute. iPhone 3G only takes a few seconds.

However, the iPhone 3G still falls short of a full-fledged GPS navigation tool. The Apple developers themselves note that the GPS chip in the phone does not have sufficient capabilities to use navigation when driving a car. However, the iPhone 3G will still help a pedestrian find his way.

Let us recall that in App Store There are quite a lot of new applications from third-party developers based on GPS technologies. Some of them may be of interest to owners of the new iPhone 3G.

    iPhone 2.0 OS software

No matter how much Apple focuses on technical specifications new iPhone, the software's impact cannot be underestimated.

For business users, one of the most important innovations was the inclusion in the iPhone 3G of support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and Apple MobileMe services, which make it possible to synchronize and exchange information from the calendar, contact list and Email. Thus, users who need such functions have lost motivation to purchase smartphones and communicators with BlackBerry and Windows Mobile.

Several other changes provided by Apple make the new iPhone much more convenient for daily and frequent use. Function mass deletion messages will certainly appeal to those who receive a lot of daily e-mails. Searching for contacts has also become more convenient.

Perhaps most of all, iPhone 3G owners will like the App Store service and several hundred applications from third-party developers that can be purchased using it. This is new Apple device compares favorably with most smartphones.

At the moment, the App Store has about 800 applications for the new iPhone 3G - from mobile games and applications that simply improve the functionality of the device, to clients social networks And voice applications. ABOUT mobile games It’s worth mentioning that thanks to touch controls, 3D graphics and a motion sensor, they can captivate almost any iPhone 3G owner for a very long time.

There are also several disadvantages: first of all, iPhone apps 3G cannot simply be shut down and left to function. In addition, the new phone does not support VoIP and video recording.

    Results

The new iPhone differs from similar touchphones primarily in its convenient and fast web surfing, as well as its intuitive touch interface. It is worth recognizing that Apple solved many of the problems associated with the first iPhone, taking into account all its shortcomings. Fast access Internet connection, combined with GPS support and many third-party applications, makes the iPhone 3G very attractive to potential buyers.

However, Apple clearly has room to grow – take at least the obvious shortcomings of GPS. Battery life, which leaves much to be desired, will force most iPhone 3G owners to carry a charger with them at all times. A number of important functions that were not included in first iPhone, are also missing in the new device - in particular, support for MMS and voice dialing. iPhone camera 3G with a resolution of 2 megapixels also cannot be compared with much more modern and quality cameras new phones – by the end of the year several models of 8 MP camera phones from leading manufacturers will be presented on the market.

  • As always happens, before the iPhone 3G went on sale, there were a lot of rumors about what it would look like new device from Apple, and what are its characteristics. And so, at the beginning of January 2007, the head of the company introduced to the world new gadget, which, according to the loud statements of Steve Jobs, was supposed to revolutionize the mobile device market.

iPhone 3 was released onto the market only 6 months after its presentation, but this did not stop fans of Apple smartphones from immediately lining up in long lines to purchase the new product.

It should be noted that in the first few months, the third iPhone was sold in America only under the terms of a manufacturer's agreement with a certain communications company. And only much later, when the device began to be sold in European countries, agreements were found with other operators. Some time later, they began selling unlocked smartphones that could already work with SIM cards from almost any company providing communication services. However, the cost of such phones reached $1000.

Of course, the third generation iPhone was not greeted as enthusiastically by a wide range of consumers as the very first smartphone from Apple. This is explained by the fact that, starting with second-generation devices, they ceased to be exclusive, but became widespread. If the first gadget was available only to residents of America for a long time, the second one quickly hit the store shelves in Europe.

As for the 3G model, its sales began in Russia in July 2008. I must say, this smartphone quickly gained its fans. The iPhone 3G review will show what the main characteristics of the third generation device are.

If the first smartphone from Apple was presented exclusively in white, then the third came in two color solutions- black and white. At the same time, the manufacturer released models with 8 gigabyte memory only in black. But models with 16 gigabytes of memory come in both black and white. Why this decision was made is unknown. One can only assume that the manufacturer considered the white color more impressive and status-bearing. But these are just guesses. However, as regular consumers of the Apple company's products know, it produces many devices, not just smartphones, in white.

By the way, the boxes in which Apple phones are sold also come in black and white. But in general, the appearance of the packaging has remained virtually unchanged since the very first iPhone. The box remains the same compact, with an image of a smartphone.

When opening the package, the user immediately sees a device neatly wrapped in film. To remove it, you need to lift the backing. There is a small envelope under the device. It contains instructions for use, a cloth for wiping, and a metal element for removing the SIM slot.

It should be noted that in the third generation iPhone, removing the SIM card from the device is very difficult. To perform this procedure, the user must arm himself with some sharp object, such as a needle. At the top end of the gadget tube there is a small hole, which you need to press with the end of a needle, and the SIM card will pop out.

As mentioned above, the first Apple devices were sold locked, and frequent SIM card changes were not required. But later, when smartphones from this company began to spread en masse, manufacturers thought about making the process of removing SIM cards simpler and more convenient. This is how a SIM ejector appeared in gadgets, which, by the way, was not very popular with users, since it is very easy to lose.

Headphones in the iPhone 3G version are quite High Quality. The sounds are clear and pure, without unnecessary noise effects. This is a big plus, since most mobile devices come with low-quality headphones, which the user is forced to change by purchasing a more expensive product.

The telephone headset has acquired a more elegant look. The microphone answer button in this gadget is hidden in a plastic box. You can control the player from the headset.

Many users thank the company for the good packaging of the iPhone 3G. In particular, as a number of owners of this device note on the forums, the cloth included in the kit for wiping the case is often useful, since fingerprints often remain on the case.

    Appearance: characteristics

Let's start describing the design with criticism. Most users are unhappy that the smartphone version 3 comes with a plastic back cover. Let us recall that previous versions The manufacturer made them metal. I must say, this fact greatly upset iPhone 3G users. After all, a metal tube gives a mobile gadget status and high cost. Overall, the device feels quite pleasant to the touch. The only negative in this regard is that it quickly gets dirty when touched with your fingers.

Owners of white smartphones periodically leave complaints on forums that cracks appear on the body of the device. But the manufacturer does not comment on these situations.

As for the safety of the gadget, we note that the silver edging that frames the screen quickly loses its presentation. Screen protection is quite good, as evidenced by numerous tests carried out by users. Scratches, of course, may appear on the display, but this occurs if the user is particularly careless and careless.

Let's take a closer look at the appearance of the third smartphone from Apple. When you first look at the screen, you can see that it is quite large. There are no sides, as well as transitions from the display to the body. There is only a screen edge that is silver in color.

There is only one control key, and it is located in the phone body, slightly squeezing into it.

The earpiece grille is located at the very top of the front of the smartphone. Light sensors are located next to it. The screen brightness level changes periodically in accordance with their performance. The sensors are virtually invisible to the normal eye and can only be seen in bright light conditions.

The back panel of the device is made of glossy material. At the top left is the camera window.

The top end contains a headphone input. There is also a power button and a compartment for a SIM card.

At the bottom there is a connector for a data cable, a mono speaker and a microphone.

Note that the keys in the third iPhone are chrome-plated; in earlier versions of Apple gadgets they were black. Such keys, especially on a white background, look very impressive. But they also look attractive on a black model.

Continuing the conversation about the advantages of the new device - a 3G smartphone - we also note the improved headphone jack. Now it can accommodate any headphones with a 3.5 mm jack.

One of the advantages is that the new phone model has become 1 millimeter thinner. At the same time, the edges of the device became more rounded. Because of this, earlier iPhone models look massive and awkward compared to the third generation model.

This device is comfortable to hold in one hand; its weight and dimensions do not cause discomfort to the user. But if you carry the device in your shirt pocket, it will probably pull it away because... It’s still impossible to call the model very miniature. As for carrying it in a jeans pocket, the situation is similar. So it’s better to wear the gadget in a special protective case, and in the bag.

    Performance

This smartphone model is equipped with a Mac OS X processor. The processor frequency is 620 megahertz. Number of cores - 1. Let us recall that the number of cores in a processor is one of the main performance indicators, since it is the main computing element that processes all user instructions. Accordingly, the greater the number of cores, the more over a certain period of time the processor will be able to perform large quantity commands Also, the mobile device runs faster, which applies to applications and games.

What memory does the third generation iPhone have?

This indicator is no less important than processor performance. It is a storage device that allows the processor to communicate with applications at the current time.

This figure in the third version of iPhone is 128 megabytes. The RAM frequency in this device is 103 megahertz.

The built-in memory is only 8 gigabytes.

    Battery

The battery in the iPhone 3G is not removable. According to user reviews, a full battery charge lasts, on average, 12 hours. If the smartphone was used very actively during the day, it will discharge in about 6 hours. Activity means surfing the Internet, listening to music, watching videos, and so on. Of course, the battery is not very powerful. But, on the other hand, users rarely actively use gadgets throughout the day. And if the owner of the device very rarely makes calls and does not use multimedia at all, the smartphone’s battery can last 1-2 days without recharging.

On average, if you use the gadget moderately, that is, talk for half an hour a day, listen to music no more than 2 hours a day, surf the Internet no more than 1 hour a day, then charging for a day may well be enough.

If we compare the third generation model with gadgets more earlier versions, then its battery is undoubtedly more powerful. But a number of users note that they did not notice a significant difference in this indicator. Certainly, we're talking about about those who actively used the first, second, and third versions of the phone.

Advice. If you want to keep your iPhone's battery from draining for as long as possible, turn it on standby mode. While in this mode, the device automatically disconnects from all wireless networks.

Experienced users have noticed that if the third iPhone is used very actively every day for a year, then after this period the battery drains greatly and it has to be charged at least once a day.

It also happens that a gadget user is overly active, that is, he spends 6 hours a day or more on the Internet. In this case, you have to charge the battery every 5-7 hours.

    Display: quality characteristics

Screen quality is one of the most important indicators of a smartphone that any buyer takes into account when purchasing a gadget. IPhone 3G has a 3.5-inch screen. The screen resolution of this phone is 320x480 pixels. It should be noted that in 2007, when the third iPhone was released on the market, there were very few mobile devices with such high display quality indicators. Today, in this regard, the third iPhone is also quite competitive, but there are also devices with more advanced devices.

When you first look at the display, you can see a clear a bright picture, without any graininess. But you can still see the pixels only when you look at the screen very closely. Of course than the display smaller sizes the better the picture looks.

In any case, the display of the device considered in today's review is very good. On many other smartphones, images (icons, etc.) look as if pressed deep into the screen, but this is not observed in the third iPhone. The icons seem to be right under the glass. It looks very beautiful and impressive.

An advantage of the phone screen is the fact that the display does not fade when exposed to sunlight.

The viewing angles are also of high quality, they still look beautiful to you. The images differ no matter how the device is tilted.
